Top 10 Reasons for Buying a Home Treadmill

Top 10 Reasons for Buying a Home Treadmill
 by: Paul Johnson

Why are treadmills becoming so popular? Why does everyone have one and not go to the gym as much? What is so great about a home treadmill? Below you will have all of these and many more questions answered as you are given ten reasons for having a home treadmill.
First, they save time. People say they don't have enough time to spend at work or with their family, so how could they have time to go to the gym. Treadmills save time because the gym is now brought to you.
Second, there are no more monthly or yearly gym fees. You have to renew your gym membership at least once a year and a typical treadmill will serve you up to 10 years or more.
Third, there is the convenience factor. In the time it would take you to get ready and drive down to the gym, you could have already got 20-30 minutes exercising on the treadmill in your home.
Fourth, it works for whole family. As with most gym equipment that requires age to use some of the heavier stuff, a treadmill only requires that you can walk to use it because it can set speeds for you and your family.
Fifth, people have been shown to stick to an exercise regimen that involves a treadmill because you can do other stuff while you are exercising. This means that there is not the typical boredom factor that is present in most workout routines.
Sixth, there is no weathering out days where the weather outside and dictate what you are doing on the treadmill. As they can be put outside and insider, there is never an excuse on why you did not get to exercise today.
Seventhё it provides and easy setup for anyone and allows for anyone to be able to use it because it denies the usual complexity that most equipment of this magnitude possesses.
Eighth, it is much easier to multitask and do other things, such as reading a book or watching a video, while using a treadmill than it is while doing other exercises.
Ninth, if you are runner, walker, or jogger it is easier on your joints than running on asphalt or grass as the surface pads on a treadmill are much more forgiving than the ground or pavement are.
Tenth, it is close to a ten year investment to your health as most treadmills last at least ten years.
For the price of treadmills and the benefits of owning one, they are the perfect compliment for anyone looking to build a home gym.

A Simple Concept on Proper Nutrition

A Simple Concept on Proper Nutrition
 by: Mart Gil

Since childhood, we are always being reminded about taking vitamins, eating nutritious foods, avoiding junk and fatty foods, drinking enough glasses of water, plus performing various exercises – all of these constitute to what is considered as proper nutrition. But how can you really be healthy? How will you know that your food intake is just right for your nutritional needs?
Basically, proper nutrition is the key element when you want to reduce your body fats, firm your body, and develop your physique. Fish, poultry, shellfish and lean meat are good sources of protein. Main sources of carbohydrates, on the other hand, include yams, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and whole wheat pasta. It is always necessary to get proper balance from the different food groups if you really ant to be healthy and physically powerful.
Dieting has been one of the major preferences to attain proper nutrition. Through it, you get to pick the right combination of foods, fruits and vegetables that's best for you. It doesn't only control your food intake that can end up to being obese and overweight, it also makes you aware of the nutritional contents of the foods that you take. This awareness makes every individual more particular about their diet and food intake. Lots of advantages are associated to this fact and you'll soon realize all these things.
By taking in healthy foods moderately and avoiding fad diets, this will not only lead to weight loss but also to stable mental and physical health. However, beginning a healthy diet may not be that easy and may cause more harm than one might think. Sometimes, we acquire unexpected diseases because we think much about our diet. There are girls who have suffered anorexia due to "over-dieting". This is only one disadvantage that we must take note. I must say that it's not always good to be very meticulous about what we eat and drink.
As what I've mentioned previously, you must also follow some type of exercise program in addition to proper food intake. But you must take note that it is not necessarily the only exercise program that works or is appropriate for you and your lifestyle. See how important it is to have balance in all these aspects? It's not always proper food intake alone or exercise alone – both are dependent to each other.

How to Lose Weight Successfully

How to Lose Weight Successfully
 by: Mart Gil

For overweight and obese persons, losing weight is very hard. There are a lot of weight loss programs being offered in gyms nowadays but still, it's so tiresome to go on and on to the gym just for this reason. I myself have been very interested to start my workout but when I get the chance to do it, I always feel very lazy. There are other ways to burn those unwanted fats away and I will be discussing some of them here.
Engaging in exercises might help you lose weight. You can do different types of exercises basically in the morning when you wake up. Jogging for at least an hour in your subdivision is a common practice that almost everybody does. It is said to effectively burn body's fats. Walking around can also serve this purpose. So, if you are off to a place which is just a few walks away from where you are, forget about riding your car first and just walk.
You can also consider medical procedures such as liposuction and surgery to remove your fats and maintain a good figure. These procedures are the fastest and easiest means to get off those body fats but their costs are the major drawback. Only those who have enough resources to sustain the huge operation fees can certainly adopt this procedure. But then, you are still not assured that you'll not become fat or obese anymore after your liposuction or surgery.
In addition, you can also take pills, medicines and other supplements in order to lose much weight. There are a lot of diet pills available in the market today. Some of them are said to be effective but most of them aren't much acceptable because of its side-effects to its users. These actually make them not worthy to be bought and used for the said purpose. In contrast, teas are more preferred by other people who are trying to get slim. Yeah, its effects are seen at a snail's pace but then, it has no side-effects and is very much nutritious when taken.
The simplest way to get lean is to always have enough sleep – eight hours per day, if possible. Only a few knows that when we sleep, we also burn fats. So, if you love to sleep, then it might be the best for your weight loss plan. Why don't you try it now?
Now, it's up for you to decide on what process is perfect for you! The only concern here is your willingness to carry out these activities and achieve the body figure that you desire. For now, what you actually need to do is to accept and love yourself for what you are.

Freedom and Independence with Your Wheelchairs

Freedom and Independence with Your Wheelchairs
 by: Mart Gil

Many people think that one is totally worthless when he becomes disabled. Disability always brings this notion but I strongly disagree with it. I've seen lots of disabled persons who have become large icons in their chosen genres. Come to think of it, some of them are even more valuable than other "more normal" creatures. The best examples are the people in wheelchairs.
Have you seen the news about the Olympics for persons with disability? If you did, you'll certainly be amazed by them because their condition never hinders them from achieving their dreams and trying to put their own marks in this cruel world. Cruel, in the sense, that some people experience something that can be considered unbearable but this something actually makes this world a more exciting place to live in. And it showed with these "wheel-chaired" people, isn't it?
Wheelchairs, I must say, have become these people's best friends. They have become more independent and confident about themselves because of this truly helpful equipment. If not for these chairs, they might have been still experiencing the pain and confusion brought about by the incident that has caused them to be disabled. These chairs have become their powerful companions! And, it also goes with the fast-paced world – it also continues to revolutionize and get modernized.
Imagine if not for Harry Jennings who created the first wheelchair, life for persons with disabilities will never be easy. It has truly made them feel that their existence must not be put to waste because of their condition. A good thing – they did not let themselves to be confined solely on their wheelchairs. Furthermore, they have realized that it's always good to feel free and do what they really want whatever it will take. Most of them have become these stronger and firmer persons and they are so sure that nothing's impossible if they'll push themselves to do what they need to do.
Being free is independence. Being independent is freedom. We might differ in terms of physical state and we may not be using wheelchairs unlike the disabled ones yet we all have the same worth in this existence. For persons with disabilities, know your strengths and weaknesses, and free yourselves to survive fairly. In fact, whether disabled or not, all of us have our own places in this world – everybody has a dream to achieve and a purpose to serve.

Why Daily Planning is So Important for Adults with ADD

Why Daily Planning is So Important for Adults with ADD
 by: ADD Coach Jennifer Koretsky

For adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), details are a drag. We tend to see the big picture and want to jump straight to the finish line, wishing we could skip all the steps in between. Unfortunately, this perspective often causes us to become overwhelmed when it's time to start a project. We know where we want to end up, but we don't know where to start.
The same is true for day-to-day life. Adults with ADD often start the day knowing what should ideally get accomplished, but not sure where to begin or how to prioritize. This often leads to stress and guilt, which can spiral into more bad feelings, and less action.
In order to avoid this scenario, adults with ADD can learn to make daily planning a routine.
Here are 3 Easy Steps One Can Take to Develop a Daily Planning Routine
1. Plan the Time to Plan
Decide on a time of day when you can consistently take 15 minutes to plan. It can be a set time (8:00 PM) or simply "right before bed."
Most adults with ADD find that the best time to plan is late in the day, when they are more alert. This works easily, as you can plan for the following day rather than stressing about it before you go to sleep!
2. Review Your To-Do List
If you don't already use a to-do list, create one! Review it during each planning session so that you can see not only what you have to do, but also what you have actually accomplished during the day.
Re-write your to-do list, removing completed items and adding things that came up during the day. Move the most important and urgent tasks to the top of the list. Break large projects into 3-5 steps that all go on the list.
3. Review Your Calendar
Take a look at your daily planner (you are using one, I hope!) See what appointments you have scheduled the next day. Block off the times in your planner, along with your travel time. Then, begin to schedule in time for the tasks on your to-do list.
Taking just 15 minutes a day to plan alleviates much of the day-to-day stress of life with ADD, and helps adults move forward.

Monitoring BMI In Children Today Could Lead To Better Health

Monitoring BMI In Children Today Could Lead To Better Health
 by: Dave Saunders

In a new study published by the American Heart Association, it is suggested that infants who gain weight rapidly during their first week may be more likely to have weight problems later in life. This study has led to a recommendation to monitor Body Mass Index (BMI) readings in children in an effort to fight obesity through heightened awareness.
According to the American Heart Association, about 15% of children are overweight and obese. This measure is up from 5% in the 1980s. Children measuring in the top 5th percentile of BMI should be considered overweight, however this measure is not necessarily an automatic recommendation for severe diet changes, which may be especially harmful for children. As a child develops further, these measures can change without changes to diet.
Children falling between 80% and 95% are considered "at-risk" and should be monitored further.
As obesity rates continue to rise in the US, studies like these continue to gain in importance. As the child develops, potential health risks may be prevented through early awareness and lifestyle management. How this may impact cardiovascular disease and Type II Diabetes rates will likely require many years to measure.
Of course, all of these recommendations should be factored in with education and support for improved lifestyle and diet. Given the pressures of youth, it is important to not stigmatize a child and foster eating problems and poor self-image where the body mass problems may have been associated more simply with poor, and uneducated, dietary choices and insufficient physical activity.

Do Natural Thyroid Boosters Work?

Do Natural Thyroid Boosters Work?
 by: Darlene Manchester

How Well Does Thyrin-ATC and Other Natural Thyroid Products Work?
Hypothyroidism occurs when there is an inadequate secretion of thyroid hormones resulting in a slowing down of the body's metabolism. So many people just don't know how far-reaching an underactive thyroid problem can be. Unfortunately, people do not know what symptoms an underactive thyroid can cause.
Many of the symptoms associated with an underactive thyroid are fatigue, weight gain, decreased interest in daily activities, difficulty in maintaining concentration, sleep disturbances, cold extremities, and abdominal bloating.
Are Prescription Thyroid Medications Worth The Potential Risks?
Many physicians have prescribed thyroid medications, only to find out that they were associated with significant side effects. These drugs may cause chest pain, increased pulse rate, palpitations, excessive sweating, heat intolerance, or nervousness. It is recommended that people who have multiple health concerns use caution when taking any prescription medications. There is also the possibility that once started on these prescriptions, the body becomes dependent on them and they become a lifelong medication.
Are there alternatives? Nonprescription All Natural Thyroid Support Products
What makes a nonprescription thyroid booster so appealing? Is it the fact that quality, all natural ingredients are used? Is the lack of side effects when taken properly? Is it the fact that prescription products pose the risk for too many potential side effects and drug interactions? The best nonprescription products on the market today are: Thyrotril™ Thyrovarin™ Thyrin ATC™
These products contain thyroid boosting ingredients which support healthy thyroid function. What other benefits can these products offer you? They can increase metabolic rate and the number of calories burned They can increase memory and concentration They can decrease fatigue and sleep disturbances Improve your quality of life
You might not need to resort to prescription strength drugs to achieve your goal of optimal thyroid function. Natural supplements give you an excellent alternative to prescription strength thyroid drugs. These products have limited side effects, less drug interactions, and are less expensive than a lot of the prescription strength thyroid medications available on the market today.
Based on current research and recent problems with both pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter drugs, natural alternative thyroid boosting products are probably the more logical option. Be consistent and administer as directed and hopefully you will get the desired results thousands of others have already experienced using these natural aids.

Weight Loss in Children

Weight Loss in Children
 by: Cass Hope

What is "too young" to begin a weight loss program with children? Is there actually such a thing? There are many different opinions on the topic of child obesity but one thing everyone can agree on is that it is becoming an epidemic in North America. Many reports show that obesity now kills more people in a year than smoking does.
So whose fault is it? I don't think there is any one area of blame but a combination of many. The fast paced lives that we lead have created more of a demand for "quick" meals whether they are pre packages or fast foods. The consumption of junk food is at an all time high with more and more variety that are all very attractive to our kids. Parents often think they are doing something nice for their kids when they give in to the demands of "I have to have that" when they see the constant advertising of attractive and yummy treats on television. Lack of exercise, face it many kids to day are just plain lazy. So is a weight loss program the answer for overweight and obese kids? My answer is definitely yes. If however you ask me is the answer to put these kids on a diet…my answer is definitely NO!
So what is the difference? Weigh loss means changing the way your child eats in a very positive way. Tell them to eat more fruits and vegetables because they are healthy for them. Keeping the junk food out of the house is the best way to make sure they are not eating it. I don't mean that an occasional treat is not ok but the key word here is "occasional." Watch their fat intake. Pre packaged foods and fast foods are very high in fat especially Trans fats which are very dangerous. More and more companies have realized this danger and are offering Trans fat free foods. Get your child involved in physical activities. Today our children's lives often revolve around television, video games and computers. The common negative denominator here is that they all involve just sitting. These are all excellent ways to help our children with their weight.
There is a big difference between healthy weight loss and a diet. A diet is something negative that makes children feel focused on their size rather than their health. Diet does not mean healthy it means getting thin any way possible, which is exactly the opposite of what we want our kids to believe. What you teach your kids when they are young about eating habits is the seed you plant for their future and giving our children good health is in my opinion our responsibility.

Emotional Pain Associated With ED

Emotional Pain Associated With ED
 by: Michael Clive

Performance anxiety is a very real issue for most men at one time or another. The fear of not being able to perform adequately, dissatisfaction with penis size, and self-consciousness about body appearance can all lead to the very thing that most men wish to avoid - failure to get an erection.
Sadly it seems that for a large number of men, their ability to get an erection and have sex is viewed as an integral part of their masculinity and potency. So it's no wonder that the onset of impotence, even when triggered by an underlying physical condition, can produce psychological problems that further impact on the impotence.
Overcoming impotence often gives men unrealistic expectations about their ability to immediately cure their emotional problems as well as their physical ones.
Because of the emotional pain associated with ED, it's common for men to make excuses or avoid sexual situations with their partners in an effort to forget about the condition. Whether intentional or unintentional, these actions can make a woman feel inadequate within the relationship, often resulting in rejection, loneliness and depression. Some women may fear they are no longer attractive to their partner, or that his attitude is the result of something she may have done. Others may worry: "Is something wrong with our relationship?" Or, "Is he having an affair?" Thus, a man's failure to communicate his condition may contribute to feelings of anxiety or depression in his partner, or lead her to express anger and frustration.
How erectile dysfunction is treated depends on what things are causing it. After your doctor checks you for medical problems and medicines that might cause erectile dysfunction, he or she may have you try a medicine to help with erectile dysfunction. Some of these medicines are injected into your penis. Other medicines are taken by mouth. Not everyone can use these medicines. Your doctor will help you decide if you can try them.
There is no doubt that Viagra, the little blue pill that revolutionized the treatment of impotence has had a profound effect on men who have erectile dysfunction. But simply finding a "quick fix" for impotence doesn't overcome other problems that may have been there before treatment began.
Some real things we have figured out with viagra are:
Percentage of time Viagra use results in sex: 66%
Percentage of Viagra users who have sex at least once after using the drug for a few weeks: 83%
Average duration of erection with 100 mg of Viagra and 20 minutes of sex videos, among men with erectile dysfunction: 1 minute
So use the drug properly under prescription and feel better and much more comfortable than ever before.

Bifocal Contact Lenses . What Are They

Bifocal Contact Lenses – What Are They
 by: Martin Smith

For year's people who had both nearsightedness and farsightedness had to suffer with eyeglasses that had thick lenses with a line across them. Not only were the glasses heavy but the frames for glasses in general were to say the least, unattractive. The other problem with the bifocal lenses was adjusting to them. You either have to look up or look down especially going downstairs. People often experience dizziness while adapting to the bifocal lenses.
For years people who needed bifocal lenses had only one choice, eyeglasses. Even when contact lenses came on the market, bifocals still could only be had in eyeglasses. That was then and this is now. Now contact lenses offer as many choices if not more choices than for those who wear eyeglasses. Now to the joy of many, there are bifocal contact lenses available. Bifocal contact lenses are available in soft, rigid, gas permeable materials.
Who needs to use bifocal lenses? People who have trouble focusing on objects that are near. They suffer with something called Presbyopia. This doesn't usually develop after age 40.
There are various types of lenses and they are described below.
Alternating design- these are similar to bifocal glasses, half the lens has distance powers and the other half has powers for near objects.
Simultaneous Design-these lenses try to blend the powers of both distant and near sight prescriptions, they fill in the pupil area. Your eyes adapt and learn to interpret the circle power choice depending on how close or far you are looking.
Concentric Design-These are the radial of contact lenses. The lens works on near vision while outer part works on distant vision correction or vice versa.
Translating Design- these are also very similar to bifocal eyeglasses, the distance correction is above the near correction. A line separates the lenses. The lens is flat on the bottom to keep it from moving around in your eye when you blink.
Asferic Design-Distant and near vision are located at the center of the lens. Near correction is at the center while distance correction surrounds it. They can be reversed in some situations. The doctor will help you decide that.
Mono-vision Design-You wear one power lens in one eye and the other in the other eye. Distance vision is usually worn in the dominant eye. Again your doctor will be able to determine this with an examination.
There are also simultaneous vision contact lenses. These lenses allow the eyes to focus on both near and far objects at the same time. Near and distant correction is in concentric rings. Since the distant and near parts of the lens are in sight all the time light from both distant and near objects can be focused on at the same time.
There is a problem with simultaneous vision lenses. While the eye is seeing through the lens some light from distant objects will go through the near vision, and the light from near objects will go through the distant part of the lens. The eye takes both in focus and out of focus at the same time. It is up to the brain to figure out which is the desired image.
Contact lenses whether bifocal or not can only be obtained with a prescription. Through a comprehensive examination your eye doctor will determine whether you are a candidate for bifocal contact lenses and what specific type might be right for you. As with any contact lens there is an adjustment period and it might take more than one try before you get lenses that are the right fit and comfortable for you.
The reality though is that bifocal contact lenses may not be for you, at least in the contact lenses that are now available. Don't give up. If you really want contact lenses and you need bifocals, do your research and keep up to date on the types of lenses available for you.
If you want to try contact lenses some companies have free trial periods of up to a week for you to try the lenses and see how you like them. There are resources available online, through your eye care physician, and in some cases right from the manufacturer. There are discount contact lens sites and some manufacturers offer coupons to you for trying them out. Your budget will undoubtedly play a part in your decision about bifocal contact lenses.
Ask friends or family members who have contact lenses what their experience has been like for them. Of course, not everyone has the same experience but in general, the information could help you and your physician make a determination.
Bifocal contact lenses are available for people with astigmatism. Toric contact lenses in particular come in both colors and disposable types. Consult with your eye care professional, as some professionals are not comfortable with fitting Toric lenses.

Bifocal Contact Lenses . Tell Me More

Bifocal Contact Lenses – Tell Me More
 by: Martin Smith

As we get older our eye can suffer from Presbyopia, this can occur when our eyes are unable to focus incoming light due to the loss and flexibility in our eye muscles. The unfortunate result is that trying to read close-up such as reading a book or newspaper or even trying to use computer screens can become blurred.
Bifocal contact lenses add an extra layer of near vision correction to the actually lens give you the power to focus and see object's close-up. There is usually a far-vision layer also.
There are three different types of bifocal contact lens designs. Alternating Concentric Simultaneous
In Alternating or translating bifocal lenses, the near and far connective layers of the lens are distinct from each other. The near correction layer is usually placed at the bottom of the lens but if needed can be reversed. The intermediate layer can also be added and changed.
In concentric bifocal lenses the near and far layers are arranged in rings, the near vision is in the centre and the far vision layer on the outer ring. If you have small pupils this arrangement can be reversed this would put the far vision layer in the centre and near vision on the outer ring.
In Simultaneous bifocal lenses both layers are in the centre of the lens, this may seem strange but your eyes learn to adapt to each correction layer. This of course may take a little time but you're eye care specialist can advice more on this.
Some people may find it difficult to get used to bifocal contact lenses, if you have adapted to bifocal, trifocal, or progressive eyeglass lenses, you'll already understand the basics of using translating bifocal contact lenses, in which the distance zone is straight ahead and above center, while the reading zone is lower. With simultaneous designs, your eyes will learn to focus near or far as needed. Whatever your particular lenses design, your eye-care specialised will make sure you understand how to use it.
Bifocal contact lenses come in soft and rigid gas permeable (RGP). In general soft contact lenses can become cloudy with protein deposits over time, they have also been known to be easy to tear.
Gas permeable contact lenses are more durable and made from a stronger plastic that stays clearer over time. When you have RGP bifocals they last longer but you may need new ones only when your presbyopia progresses so that you need a stronger near vision prescription.

Atkins Diet . Simple Advice

Atkins Diet – Simple Advice
 by: Martin Smith

Just like any other diet, the Atkins diet can become boring and for some very dangerous. Before you get into the plan make sure you get a physical and talk to your doctor. We already know that the diet works but how do you work the diet? There is plenty of advice and information available online and in the library.
The Atkins Diet is an attempt to trick your body into burning stored fat rather than the carbohydrates you consume for energy. In the process you might have some physical reactions that are important to know about. The good news is that there are things you can do to combat some of the side effects.
Some people experience dizziness or cramps or other physical effects from the changes you are making in your diet. There are things you can do to prevent or alleviate these things. Be aware that you could experience dizziness, leg cramps, or brain fog. Remember that the mineral potassium is washed out of your system fairly quickly. Do not eat a banana instead take 90 milligrams of a potassium supplement. It should start working to relieve your symptoms in about an hour.
Below are some suggestions that will help keep you healthy while on the Atkins Diet Plan. These are suggestions to help you combat the symptoms while your body adjusts to the changes.
Eat enough calories. For most people eight to ten calories for every pound of current weight. Too few calories will cause your body to go into starvation mode and weight loss will either slowdown or stop completely.
Drink enough water. You must drink at least 68 ounces of water a day. Some believe that you should drink half of your weight in water daily. Water helps lipolysis and in getting rid of keytones.
Weigh and measure yourself once a week only while on the Atkins plan. You should see a decrease in inches and even if you don't, you will see it in weight.
Eat the amount of carbs that make you feel your best.
Eat only natural, unprocessed, nutrient dense carbohydrates. Stay away from sugar.
Exercise regularly. If you are told you can lose weight without exercise, run don't walk in the opposite direction. Physical exercise helps your body to use the food you consume appropriately. Too little exercise can do as much damage as too much exercise. Your doctor can help you determine what your activity level should be. Start off really slow and build up so that you will gain more benefit from your food plan and exercise.
Continue to take nutrient supplements according to your needs and under a doctor's supervision.
Keep a weight loss and food journal. If a significant event happens like the death of someone close, the loss of a job, or too many bills you might want to note that. These events could affect how you eat. Actually anything significant that happens should be noted because good stuff can also affect you. In this journal you should also note exactly what you eat at each meal, and if you are a diabetic you will be able to understand how certain foods affect your blood sugar levels negatively or positively. Obviously you will be noting your daily testing results. By doing this you will be able to recognize patterns. When are your levels the highest or the lowest? Be sure to share these things with your physician, as he or she will be able to help you determine what to do.
Read the labels on everything. Look for any hidden sugars like syrups and look for anything that ends in "...ose", such as lactose, fructose, sucrose, maltose and dextrose.
Lose weight faster. In order to accomplish this try reducing your caffeine intake.
Set realistic goals. A healthy weight loss typically is not much more than one to three pounds a week. Any more than that could be unsafe. Losing weight too quickly can trick your body into thinking that it is starving and rather than losing weight your body will stop losing weight and try to hang on to what it can to survive. Aside from all of that, note that any large initial weight loss will likely return if you return to normal eating habits.
If a diet seems too good to be true, It probably is. The best kind of diet is one that encourages balanced meals, moderate activity, and supplements as needed. Before taking any kind of supplement make sure that it is appropriate for you. Although they may be all natural, they are not necessarily safe. They can still negatively interact with any medications and you could still develop allergic reactions to it. Bear in mind that nothing should be take with out your doctor's input.

Atkins Diet Plan . What.s it All About?

Atkins Diet Plan – What's it All About?
 by: Martin Smith

A typical breakfast consists of 3 or 4 strips of bacon, two or more eggs and coffee. A snack would maybe be chunks of cheese and a cup of coffee with cream. Dinner might be a huge steak fried in butter. Sounds really good right? It sounds so tempting but there is a trade-off. You will have to give up carbs such as breads, potatoes, pasta, rice, and other things like chocolate, cake, some fruits, veggies, and milk at least in the beginning.
The theory is that when you cut out carbs your body are forced into burning fat that your body has stored to give it energy. Your body burns more calories when burning fat than when it is burning carbohydrates and you will lose weight more quickly. Your blood sugars stabilize which prevents overeating.
The first phase of the Atkins Diet Plan is the Introduction Phase and must be followed for at least two weeks. You are only allowed to consume 20 grams of carbs a day. You can load up on as much red meat, chicken, fish, cheese, eggs, mayo, cream, and butter. It is during this phase that your body switches from the burning fat to burning carbs.
The second phase is the ongoing weight loss phase. During this phase you increase your carb intake by about 5 grams daily until you find your critical carbohydrate level for losing weight. The most carbs that you can eat and still lose between 1 and 3 pounds a week. Breads, pasta, potatoes, and rice are still off limits.
The third phase is the pre-maintenance phase that you enter when you have only five to ten pounds to go to meet your goal weight. Your carb intake increases by ten grams each day for a week in order to help your body adjust to the addition of carbs and the final phase of maintenance.
The fourth phase is called lifetime maintenance and intended to help you keep your motivation. Carbs are limited to less than 90 grams a day. Get used to it though because you will be on a low carb diet for the rest of your life.
There are some concerns about the long-term effects of the Atkins Diet Plan and other low carb plans. There is such a high consumption of fat, particularly saturated fats and this can cause an increase risk of heart disease.
The Atkins diet eliminates some nutrients and this could cause deficiencies and other health problems in the future. Since there is a limited intake of bone building calcium you could be at increased risk of Osteoporosis. A very limited intake of antioxidant nutrients could cause problems such as heart disease, cancer, and premature aging.
One drawback of the Atkins Diet is that it can become boring. Vegetarians have difficulty with this diet because veggies, seeds, and nuts are off limits in the first stages. The diet does present a view of healthy eater, which keeps us healthy and free from disease.
Other concerns are that the initial weight loss comes back quickly when you go off the Atkins plan and a lot of people drop out in the induction phase. The carbs are very low and ketosis can result which is dangerous for a diabetic or anyone else for that matter.
This diet is high in cholesterol and you can develop constipation and/or heart disease because of the high fat content. Since the diet is low in fruits and vegetables, it also lacks cancer-fighting antioxidants. The most serious drawbacks to the Atkins plan are that it is not intended for long term use and there are unsafe if not downright dangerous side effects.
A few positive notes about the Atkins Plan are that it works! You lose a lot of weight quickly and you can eat as much as you want of certain foods especially protein and fat.
The Atkins Diet eliminates to a great degree carbs from rice, pasta, potatoes, breads, some fruits and veggies. It also eliminates cancer-fighting antioxidants. It is a high fat and high protein diet that can increase the risk for certain diseases like high cholesterol and heart disease.
On the upside, this is one diet that actually works but it is not a diet that you can be on for an indefinite period of time. Once you go off the program and resume more 'normal' eating the initial weight loss will come back. Also, as with any diet plan check with your doctor to be sure you can safely do it.
To conclude let me give you a reminder. The Atkins diet is not for long term use and it has inherent health risks. If you need to lose weight you may already be at risk for heart disease and high cholesterol, the Atkins plan has the potential of actually increasing those risks.

Disposable Contact Lenses . Simple But Powerful

Disposable Contact Lenses – Simple But Powerful
 by: Martin Smith

Throughout time there have been various means of correcting vision. There was the monocle, then the glasses that were on a chain or a stick, and then there were eyeglasses as we know them today but there were not as many styles as there are now. As technology improved the lenses of glasses were getting smaller. Since many people were always losing or breaking their eyeglasses they were hoping for a way to wear glasses and not have to worry about them being lost or breaking them.
Contact lenses came along and they were great but expensive. If you lost them or dropped them you would have to get new ones. I knew of someone who lost one of her contact lens and she had developed an infection in her eye. The doctor examined her only to find the contact lens had slipped and was not in the proper place. Traditional contact lenses were rigid and took some getting used to.
People were looking for softer and more flexible lenses and lenses they could easily put in. Softer lenses came out and then because they had to be removed every night and cleaned, people started to long for lenses they could wear all the time. As the prices came down and more people were able to purchase contacts, they were getting sick and tired of cleaning them all the time and of the expense of all the cleaning solutions needed.
It would be great, they thought, to be able to throw out the lenses each night and eliminate the need for the cleaning solution. 1987 saw the introduction of disposable contact lenses and they were design-ed to be worn for a specific amount of time before having to be re-placed. There are some terms and explanations that you need to be familiar to understand disposable contact lenses.
Disposable Contact Lenses - they are discarded and replaced after two weeks if not sooner.
Frequent replacement lenses - they are replaced every one to three months. Traditional/Reusable - these are replaced every six months if not before.
Extended wear lenses - you can sleep in them for up to two weeks.
Daily disposable lenses are removed and discarded every night eliminating the need for cleaning solutions. You and your doctor should determine the replacement schedule. The wearing schedule defines how often you remove, replace, or discard your lenses.
Day and night Contact Lenses - You wear these lenses day and night for up to 30 days. You then remove them and dispose of them. It is my personal opinion that if you can tolerate them the Day and Night Contact lenses would be the best idea. Imagine what you can do with all the time you save because you aren't busy cleaning your lenses every night.
The more lenses are replaced the healthier your eyes will be. Over time there can be a build up of calcium, lipids, and proteins on them and make your eyes very uncomfortable and make you prone to infections. Some people wear disposable lenses for theatrical purposes and use color changer lenses. There are all kinds of contact lenses including those with logos and animal eyes.
What are some of the benefits of using disposable contact lenses?
There is lower risk of infections, lenses are sterile
There is not enough time for calcium and protein to build up on them.
They result in clearer vision.
They are not for use with cleaning solutions.
There is no worry about having cleaning solutions or storing them.
Daily disposables are ideal for people who suffer from allergies, especially during the high allergy season.
The are great for people who wear contacts only a few days a week. They are also cheaper if you wear them only a few days a week.
If you rip your lenses or lose them, you simply discard them and open a new package.
The benefits of disposable contact lenses are greater than eyeglasses. Some people keep a pair of glasses just in case something has to happen to their lenses.
The decision to use contact lenses including disposable contact lenses should be discussed with your eye care physician. A careful examination should be conducted as well. Do your research some manufacturers of contact lenses will offer you a free trial for at least a week.
You can get disposable contact lenses from eye care places or you can get them online. Either way you will need to have a prescription. Be aware that not everyone can wear contact lenses and only you and your doctor can decide that. You need to decide if you can afford them. Talk to the manufacturers and see if they have any special offers and/or trial periods. Do your research; see what kinds of lens are available for your prescription. Do what is best for you.

What You Should Know Before You Get Contact Lenses

What You Should Know Before You Get Contact Lenses
 by: Martin Smith

There are a number of reasons why so many people around the world suffer from vision deterioration old age, disease of the retina, cornea to name but a few. To help with vision around 1284 in Italy, Salvino D'Armate inventing the first wearable eyeglasses but vision aids where around much longer D'Armate design was very similar to what is still available today.
Who invented Contact Lenses?
Leonardo da Vinci sketched and described several forms of contact lenses in 1508, and in 1632 Rene Descartes suggested the possibility of a corneal contact lens. Adolph Fick first thought of making glass contact lenses in 1888, but it took until 1948 when Kevin Tuohy invented the soft plastic lens for contacts to become a reality.
What If I Want To Use Contacts
If you've been wearing spectacles and have never used contact lenses there are a number of things you need to do.
Make an appointment with your eye care specialised, a regular eye test can help detect eye diseases before you notice the effect on your sight. Early treatment can often prevent your sight form getting worse
When you go for your eye test you should take with you any glasses that you wear, the names of any medicine you are taking and the name of your doctor if needed.
Your eye care specialised should discuss your eye test results and your eye health with you. Don't be afraid to ask questions about any aspect of your eye test.
So What Types Are Available?
Soft Contact lenses: Are made from oxygen permeable, which is a water-loving plastic. They contain between 30 and 80 per-cent water, depending on the type of lens. Many people enjoy the comfort of soft lenses they are easy to adapt to and fit both comfortably and securely.
Toric lenses: Patients who are diagnosed with astigmatism are normally prescribed toric contact lenses.
Disposable Contact lenses: These are good as they decrease the possibilities of a contact lens wearer getting infected, after a prescribed period of time, the lenses are thrown away and replaced with a new pair.
Gas Permeable lenses: Made of special firmer plastics, which are permeable to oxygen, these lenses are very durable and usually have a longer life span than soft lenses. Many people prefer them and find them easier to handle than soft lenses.
Safety Practices
There are safety measures for choosing, applying, and wearing contacts which you can follow to protect your eyes and provide for long-term, problem-free contact lens wear, including:
There are a number of safety measures to remember when using contact lenses
Make sure you wash your hands before inserting or removing your contact lenses.
Never borrow or lend your contact lenses to anybody else.
Always clean the contact lenses with the solution provided to ward off infection and to cleanse it of protein enzyme deposits.
If your contact lens gets torn or damaged, replace it immediately.
Not everybody can wear contact lenses if your prone to eye infection you may not be able to wear them, if your eyes sting, burn or itch you may be experiencing the common signs of "dry eye." A feeling of something foreign within the eye or general discomfort may also signal dry eye. This may require a visit to your eye care specialised.
If I have problem like dry-eye can I wear contact lenses?
You're may not have success with contact lenses than someone who does not have this condition. This of course does not mean that you cannot wear contact lenses at all. It basically means you may have a shorter contact lens wearing period than normal or you may have to wear your lenses only occasionally.
There is help available if needed you can make wearing contacts more comfortable by inserting eye lubrication drops. But, make sure you consult you eye care specialised beforehand to get advise.

Supplements . How To Take Them

Supplements – How To Take Them
 by: Martin Smith

It's unfortunate but many people have digestive systems that find it hard to break down food and absorb nutrients – this can be caused by poor levels of stomach acid, toxic substances in the gut, insufficient production of digestive enzymes among other reasons.
This condition can of course be dramatically improved as nutrient intake is increased slowly. An organic diet is of course the healthiest you can use but you may just need to compensate for any shortfalls and take some supplements.
You don't need to visit your doctor to take supplements they can be self-prescribed once taken in small regular amounts, which can be ideal for treating any minor health problems.
Taken Supplements in large amounts for either nutritional support of server pathological conditions have been found to be therapeutic on their own or with conventional medical treatments. Always remember larger doses should be taken under the supervision of your physician or nutritional therapist.
When To Take Supplements
The best time to take supplements is with meals the body can absorb it best when your digestive system has been stimulated by the presence of food. Time-released formulas should be taken with food as to make sure they travel through the body at the correct speed and for efficient release at the appropriate place.
Water-soluble vitamins quickly pass through the body, so basically taken them twice or three times a day is often the best practice. Fat-soluble vitamins are better absorbed if taken with meals that include some fat. Almost all minerals work in conjunction with vitamins and should be taken along with them.
Some minerals can interfere with the absorption of others so make sure to take them at different time to your multiformula. If you multiformula contains antagonistic minerals there will not be enough to conflict with one another so you don't need to worry.
Vitamins A, D, E – Should be taken with meals which include a little oil or Fat
Vitamin B-Complex – This should be taken first thing in the morning to give maximum energy, but can of course be taken anytime especially if taken with whole grains.
Vitamin C – Taken with meal if possible, can be taken on an empty stomach if you don't feel like eaten because of a cold. Take two or three times a day.
Time-Release – Take with your main meal of the day.
Iron – Best absorbed with food.
Calcium – About 30 minutes before bedtime.
Magnesium - About 30 minutes before bedtime.
Multiformulas – These can be taken anytime but best with small amounts of food.

Facts You Need To Know About A Low Carb Diet

Facts You Need To Know About A Low Carb Diet
 by: Martin Smith

What is low carb?
We've all heard about the Atkins diet either good or bad, low carb eating is a weight loss program popularized by diet plans like Atkins, The Zone and South Beach Diet to name a few.
They all have the same basic premise, lower carbs eating will result in weight loss and help to make you healthier. Some studies have even found that eating from low carbohydrate menus may actually help to raise your good cholesterol.
If you decide that a lower carb way of life is for you, you are allowed to eat: High fat Steak but not the Baked Potato Hamburger but not the Bun Hot Dog but not the Fries
Find the right low carb diet that suits you
Which is best for you? As we already said there are several diets that utilize low carbohydrate foods as the base of their plan. Getting an understanding of low carb diet plans and their various approaches will help you choose the diet that best fits your tastes and meal schedule. Remember all the popular lower carbohydrate diets are similar but have subtle differences.
What's the difference?
Eating the low carb way can vary from one plan to another, for instance the South Beach diet is much more liberal about adding fruits
During the first two weeks of a low carb diet like Atkins you are limited to a very low carbohydrate intake.
The Zone diet works by balancing protein, carb, and fat in every meal and snack. So if you prefer several small meals throughout the day, this may be the low carb diet for you.
There can be dramatic weight loss during this period. After the introductory , or induction phase you can gradually add some higher carb foods to your menu.
How to I avoid eating high carb foods
Eating out while on a low carb diet is not as difficult as you may imagine. Order the entrйe only and if it comes with a forbidden carb rich food, ask the waiter to remove it before serving.
Also request that the breadbasket not even be brought to the table, thus avoiding another tempting higher carb food item. Don't eat the crackers with the soup, and only use oil and vinegar dressing on your salad. Lower carb eating can be delicious, easy and healthful.

The 3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet
 by: Helen Laxton

The 3 Day Diet is a 'crash diet', designed specifically for people who want to lose large amounts of weight very fast. Exponents say the 3 Day Diet is chemically and enzyme balanced, and if followed to the letter, you can allegedly lose 10 pounds in 3 days, hence the name.
While we here at www.supadiet.com have not tried this diet, we would point out that medical opinion generally believes that 'crash' diets, including the 3 day diet, can be dangerous. Typically, research suggests that these 'faddy' diets encourage a starve / binge cycle, which is not good for your general health. Any diet offering more than 1 or 2 pounds a week loss should generally be undertaken only under medical supervision, because of the inherent dangers of rapid weight loss.
Another consideration is the need to keep the weight off once you have lost it. Many followers of 'crash diets' find that although they shed the pounds fast, they then pile even more than they lost back on, because the fad diet is not sustainable over long time periods. For steady weight control, you need a regular balanced diet with all the essential vitamins, minerals and proteins.
Anyway, having said that, the basis of the 3 Day Diet is simple, ordinary foods commonly found in the kitchen. You don't have to buy special diet meals, or eat foodstuffs you normally wouldn't find tasty. No special expensive recipes or ingredients are required. As the diet name suggests, used for only 3 days at a time, the 3 Day Diet is very short term, and lasts only 3 days. After that, you are supposed to return to your normal diet (but without 'overeating' of course!) for 4 days. This completes a full week, and then you start again.
Unlike some crash diets, the 3 day Diet does not involve starving yourself - you eat at normal times, and the meals are 'normal' too. The theory behind the 3 day diet is that by combining certain foods you can create a digestive reaction that boosts your metabolism and helps you burn fat far faster than normal. There is not really any scientific evidence for this, although followers of the diet are adamant this is what happens.
So lets take a look at some sample meals eaten on a 3 day diet, courtesy of www.supadiet.com. Day 1, Breakfast. Start with coffee (no sugar), 1 egg, half a grapefruit, and a piece of toast. Lunch is a cup of tuna, together with a slice of toast. Dinner consists of 3 ounces of chicken, a cup of green beans or broccoli, half a cup of carrots and half a banana. If you have a sweet tooth, you can treat yourself to half a cup of regular vanilla ice cream. So, not too extreme, is it? The downside is that such low amounts of food may leave you feeling tired and listless.
On the second day, the menu is pretty similar. Breakfast, an Egg (boiled, scrambled, omlette), half a banana, 1 piece of toast. Lunch, 1 cup of cottage cheese, 8 regular crackers (or 1 slice toast if you prefer). Dinner, 3 oz lean red meat, 1 cup of cabbage, half a cup of carrots, half a banana, and half a cup of plain ice cream as a treat.
On the 3rd day, breakfast is 5 regular crackers with 1 oz of cheddar cheese and an apple. For lunch, you can have a boiled egg with a slice of toast and tea or coffee (no sugar). The main meal of the evening is a cup of cottage cheese, half a cup of carrots, half a cup of cauliflower, and half a melon. As usual, you can treat yourself to half a cup of vanilla ice-cream if you like.
You are probably getting an idea now for the ingredients and recipes you should be working with, and you don't need much imagination to construct your own 3 day menus. Good luck with it!

Living with a Latex Allergy

Living with a Latex Allergy
 by: Grant Segall

The interesting thing about latex is that it is a huge part of our society, often without being noticed. For example, carpet backing, pencil erasers, baby pacifiers, wheelchair tires, toys, balloons, and even elastic in clothing is latex. However, most people relate latex to adhesive tape used in hospitals, which is yet another example. Because so many people have latex allergy and the number of things made from latex is growing, symptoms are on the rise.
Take the healthcare industry for example – this particular area is surrounded by latex in the form of tape, surgical gloves, disposable syringes, and blood pressure cuffs. Because doctor's offices, clinics, and hospitals use so much latex, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health have released results of a study that show a minimum of 12% of all healthcare workers eventually deal with some level of latex allergy. Even so, the biggest concern regarding latex allergy relates to children with disability since their small, sick bodies are highly sensitive and susceptible, putting them at greater risk.
Keep in mind that when it comes to latex allergy, there are many different forms of reaction, some minor and some major. For instance, a Type 1 latex allergy is considered as hypersensitive, which produces symptoms ranging from minor such as watery eyes and a runny nose to more severe problems that would include nausea and vomiting, hives, and shortness of breath. With Type 1, the problem is that latex particles become airborne and then inhaled.
For Type 4 latex allergy, the reaction is limited to any exposed area. This would include someone having surgery and the bandages being held on by latex tape. The result is a skin rash and irritation, swelling, and redness that typically lasts anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. Obviously, this type of latex allergy is not nearly as serious although it is quite frustrating.
Keep in mind that latex is actually a natural product that comes from a rubber tree's sap. Because it is so flexible, strong, and costs very little to manufacture, it takes first place over many similar manmade products. If you suspect that you have a latex allergy, you can see your doctor for a thorough examination and blood work. This test involves looking at a certain antibody called IgE immunoassays, which is performed through skin testing.
This particular test is currently being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and while it is highly accurate for proving latex allergy, it is not designed to determine the severity of the allergy. Therefore, in addition to the testing, if you have reaction to latex, you should avoid using it, turning instead to vinyl or plastic.

It must withstand pollution, ultraviolet rays, wind, and debris, as well as the harmful chemicals in 99% of all skin care products and cosmetics. The skin on your face is the most delicate skin on your body. Therefore there are many specialty products that have been developed specifically for your facial skin. It can be difficult to decipher which products perform which tasks, and which products would work the best with your skin type. Here's a primer on the most common facial products available.
A Word About Facial Skin
Before you can select the facial skin care products that would work best for you, you need to determine your skin type. Basically, facial skin is categorized as either normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or combination. If you've never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it's likely that you have "normal" skin. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. Oily skin, on the other hand results in medium to large pores that are prone to blockage and breakouts. Oily skin is usually slightly too moderately greasy and is thicker and firmer than normal skin. Dry skin feels tight and itchy, especially in the winter. It is thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch. People with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type. Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Avoid products with dyes, per!
fumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients in all skin conditions. As its name implies, combination skin has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily "T-Zone" (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes.
Facial Skin Care Products
Facial Cleansers: Soap can be very drying to facial skin. So it is best to use a facial wash or cleanser that is specifically designed for the face.
Skin Toners: Skin toners offer extra cleaning and help to restore the pH balance of your facial skin. However, these products can be quite drying, so if you have dry or sensitive skin, you will not need to use a skin toner.
Anti Aging Creams: Facial skin care creams made of antioxidants (particularly vitamins C and E), vitamin A or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), are commonly used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore luster to the skin. These products may make a variety of claims regarding their efficacy and time required to see results. Use caution when reviewing a facial skin care product that claims to be a "miracle cure" to aging.
Eye Creams: Eye creams are specifically made to pamper the delicate skin under and around the eyes. They help to plump and tighten under eye skin and they can reduce fine lines and wrinkles (like crows feet) that develop around the eyes. I recommend "Parfait Visage"
Moisturizers: Moisturizers help to hydrate skin and reduce the effects of aging over time.
Sunscreen: Sunscreen is the most important facial skin care product for the health and protection of your skin. The sun's rays, even in small amounts can be very damaging to the skin on your face. Protect it with a natural sunscreen of at least an SPF 15 everyday.
Facial Cleansers: The fragile skin on your face needs a gentle cleanser that is designed for facial skin. Facial cleansers may come in liquid, foam, gel, towelette, or bar form.
AHAs: Alpah Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) work wonders at smoothing out the texture of skin and reducing the visibility of fine lines. These products work by sloughing off dead skin cells to unblock and cleanse pores, to improve oily skin or acne, and to improve skin condition in general. The extent of exfoliation that a facial skin care product is capable of depends on the type and concentration of the AHA, its pH (acidity), and other ingredients in the product.
Exfoliators: These facial skin care products utilize a variety of ingredients such as nuts, alpha hydroxy acids, and microcrystals to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal the healthy, radiant skin underneath. They are best used occasionally to restore luster to dull or dry skin.
Sunless Tanners: As their name implies, sunless tanners are used to tan the skin without exposure to the sun. These products vary greatly in quality, time requirements, and ease of application. They should be used with caution. A poor quality or poorly applied sunless tanner will produce unnatural results. These sunless tanners also contain harmful chemicals which can be absorbed by your skin.

Skin Care for Men

Skin Care for Men
by: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Most men develop some kind of necessary skin care cleansing routine in the teenage years. Acne, blemishes, and the attentions of the opposite sex are usually the reason for such routines. However, many men ignore the toning and moisturizing steps that can improve both the appearance and feel of facial skin. Skin care products and routines may seem likely stuff for women only, but men have skin too. And just like women, men can do wonders for their skin by simply learning a few basic principles of skin care. For starters, men need to understand what type of skin they have, how to care for their skin, and how to develop a skin care routine they can live with.
Know Your Skin Type
Before you can select skin care products, you need to know what type of skin you have. Although women often learn these differences as soon as they can hold a bar of soap, many men find the question perplexing. Skin is skin, right? Wrong! Your skin can be normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination. Here's a primer for men on deciphering your skin type.
Normal Skin: If you've never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it's likely that you have "normal" skin. The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even. If you've never given a second thought to your skin before, your skin type is probably normal.
Oily Skin: As its name implies, oily skin is slightly to moderately greasy. If you have oily skin, your pores are medium to large in size and prone to blockage. You probably have problems with pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and acne cysts. Oily skin is usually thicker and firmer than normal skin and it's less sensitive to environmental damage.
Dry Skin: Dry skin characteristically feels tight and itchy. Winter is especially rough on this skin type. Dry skin is usually thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch. If you have dry skin, you may have noticed that your skin is also easily irritated.
Sensitive Skin: Men with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type. Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap. Be very careful about the skin care products you choose if you have sensitive skin. Avoid products with dyes, perfumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients that may irritate your skin.
Combination Skin: This skin type is used to specifically describe facial skin that has both dry and oily patches. Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily "T-Zone" (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes. It is not uncommon for these oily zones to be reversed. If you have this skin type, you will need to purchase skin care products made especially for combination skin.
A Skin Care Routine For Men
Now that you know what kind of skin you have, and you've purchased skin care products to accommodate your skin type, how do you know what to do with them. Many men have a fitness regime, a financial plan, and a daily schedule. But mention a skin care routine and they run for the hills. Skin care is not just for women. In fact, men who exercise regularly are prone to having more skin problems than women who do the same. That's because you're stretching your skin, not cleansing it properly, and not protecting it from elements such as sweat, sun, and wind. But don't worry; taking care of your skin doesn't have to mean spending hours in the bathroom. It just means establishing a simple routine to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
Wash: Sure you take a shower in the morning before work, but do you take time to wash your face as well? (with products made for your skin type?) Gently wash your face twice a day. In the morning, facial cleansing will remove any perspiration and debris from sleeping and at the end of the day it will get rid of sweat and pollutants that have accumulated on your face throughout the day. Use a all-natural herbal soap.
Tone: If you have dry or sensitive skin, skip this step. Toners are usually alcohol based and may irritate these skin types. But normal, oily, and combination skin can benefit from the extra cleansing and pH restoration of a alcohol free toning product.
Moisturize: Hydrate your face with a quality, skin-type appropriate moisturizer such as "Parfait Visage". And if you spend any time in the sun at all, choose a moisturizer that includes a sun block of at least SPF 15. This will protect your skin from the sun and save you the hassle of remembering to apply another product.

Skin Care Tips

Skin Care Tips
by: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Like it or not, your skin will be with you for the rest of your life. Your skin serves you and your body in a number of ways. It aids in sensory perception, protects you from injuries, provides a barrier against dehydration, assists in temperature maintenance, removes toxic wastes, aids in the manufacture of vitamin D, and provides structure to the organs and tissues within your body. To put it lightly, your skin is an integral part of your life. It's essential that you care for it and maintain it in a healthy state so that it will continue to function well for you as you age.
Knowing Your Skin
We glance quickly at the skin on the rest of our bodies when we shave, and we know to cover our skin when it's cold. But do we really know our skin? Is it dry or oily? Sensitive or thick? How often do new moles or wrinkles develop? Does your skin react differently when you change your lotions, cleansers, and creams? Do you have a skin care routine?
Your skin is very important to your overall health and well being. Take time to really look at your skin, and get to know its various features and subtleties. If you are not satisfied with your current skin care products, look for higher quality natural organic products that will improve the condition of your skin.
Skin Care Tip: Enlist the help of a natural skincare expert to examine your skin, point out trouble spots, and monitor the condition of your skin. A dermatologist can also help you understand your particular skin type, and recommend skin care products that would work best for you.
Protecting Your Skin
The ultraviolet rays of the sun are damaging to your skin and to your health. Sun exposure can lead to premature aging, sagging, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and the development of cancer. And while a suntan will eventually fade at the end of the summer, the damage to the skin from sunlight will continue to accumulate over time. Take measures to protect your skin from the sun and its damaging rays.
Sun Screen: Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 helps block the damaging rays of the sun, and it should be used every day for adequate protection. Even if you don't plan on sunbathing, you are exposed to the sun when you drive in the car or walk into the grocery store. If you tend to sweat heavily, or if you are exercising vigorously, reapply the sunscreen every two to three hours throughout the day.
Reduce Sun Exposure: In addition to wearing sunscreen, it's a good idea to reduce the amount of ultraviolet radiation your skin is exposed to everyday. Limit your time outdoors between 10:00am and 3:00pm when the sun is directly overhead and strongest. Wear protective clothing such as wide brimmed hats and sunglasses to block the sun's rays. And when you do have to expose yourself to the sun, try to build up your tolerance in modest increments each day.
Cleansing Your Skin
Next to sun protection, proper skin cleansing is the next best thing you can do for the care and protection of your skin. Washing your skin helps to remove the dirt, pollutants, dead skin cells, bacteria, cosmetics, perspiration, and debris that accumulate on your skin. Choose a gentle skin cleanser based on your skin type and special skin care needs (i.e. anti acne, or sensitive skin.) And wash your skin as necessary to keep it clean, fresh, and functioning properly.
Skin Care Tip: do not rub skin care cleansers into your skin. Instead, lather the soap or gel into a foam in your hands, apply to the skin and rinse off well. This will keep the cleansers from overly drying, blocking, or irritating the skin's pores.
Maintaining Healthy Skin
Moisturizers: Skin care moisturizers smooth and soften skin and help to lock in its natural moisture. They can be particularly soothing to dry or sensitive skin. And they provide great protection for the skin during wet, cold, or chapping (windy) weather.
Lifestyle: Your skin needs a good balance of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in order to function and remain healthy. Adequate exercise helps improve circulation and move waste and nutrients through the system. Eat a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise to keep your skin, and the rest of your body in tip-top condition.
Skin Care Tip: Drink at least six to eight glasses of purified water throughout the day to hydrate the skin and circulate essential nutrients. Also avoid chlorinated pools and hot tubs. Chlorine is very damaging to the skin. Get a shower filter to filter out the harmful chemicals from your city water supply.

Anti-Aging Skin Care: Turning Back the Clock

Anti-Aging Skin Care: Turning Back the Clock
by: Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN

Wrinkles are quite literally a sign of the times. They are caused by both genetic and environmental factors such as sunlight, make up, chemical ridden cosmetics, cigarette smoke, and other pollutants. But regardless of their cause, many women find their laugh lines to be no laughing matter. So what can we do to prevent and stall the skin damage that causes wrinkles, laugh lines, age spots, and other bothersome blemishes?
How Can I Prevent Wrinkles?
The best way to prevent wrinkles is to follow a regular skin care routine, and to adamantly protect your face from the detrimental effects of the sun. You need to cleanse your skin on a daily basis to remove the perspiration, debris, and pollutants that can buildup and damage your pores. And use a natural sunscreen (with a minimum SPF 15) to shield your face from the sun's damaging ultraviolet rays. Also, avoid smoking, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages that dehydrate the skin. Drink plenty of purified water to keep your skin supple, hydrated and healthy.
When Should I Start Using Anti-Wrinkle Creams?
You can start using anti-wrinkle creams before you even see a wrinkle appear. Eye creams in particular are effective at supporting the delicate area around the eyes and preventing or stalling the development of wrinkles. Many women (and men) start using anti wrinkle creams in their thirties. The skin's natural levels of collagen diminish with age and anti-wrinkle creams may offer a suitable replacement. These creams may be too heavy for younger, thicker skin, so you'll have to determine whether or not they're right for your skin type. I recommend using all-natural products, organically certified if possible.
How Can I Diminish Wrinkles?
There are numerous products and techniques available today to help you diminish the appearance of wrinkles. Herbal creams and vitamin supplements can be used to reduce the effects of aging on the skin. You must choose which product or method is best for you based on the number and severity of your wrinkles and the level at which they bother you.
Anti-Aging Products and Ingredients
Vitamin A: Vitamin A yields a slight inflammatory action on the skin. It can help to "puff up" the skin and diminish the depth of many wrinkles.
Vitamin C: This water-soluble vitamin helps to improve circulation and boost the production of collagen within the body. It has a brightening affect on skin that has become dull and dry with age.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to protect skin from the damaging effect of free radicals. It also strengthens the immune system, improves circulation, and protects red blood cell membranes.
Coenzyme Q10: This powerful antioxidant is effective at protecting the skin from free radical damage and improving circulation throughout the body. Coenzyme Q10 can be found in oral vitamin supplements or as an ingredient in skin care creams.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids: AHA's or fruit acids help to slough off dead skin cells that can dull the skin's appearance.
Anti Aging Procedures
Botox: Botox or botulinum endotoxin-A can produce dramatic anti aging results, similar to surgery, without the devastating side effects. Botox is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It causes a slight paralysis of the muscles around the wrinkles. This can diminish the appearance of "motion wrinkles," such as laugh lines and crow's feet. The procedure to have Botox injected under the skin can be quite costly and it's effects are only temporary, so it must be repeated several times throughout the year.
Dermabrasion: This is a procedure that utilizes microcrystals or other sanding equipment to scrape away facial skin around the affected area. It is a costly procedure that my actually require a recovery of several weeks.
Laser Resurfacing: Laser surgery is a technique that uses a controlled laser beam to remove the upper layer of damaged skin. It can visibly reduce the appearance of fine line and in come cases, deeper wrinkles. It is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery today. However, it is an invasive surgical procedure that also has risks such as excessive scarring, infection, loss of normal skin pigmentation, skin redness and dryness.
Chemical Peels: As frightening as it seems, chemical peels actually involve applying a chemical substance to your skin that "burns" off the damaged layers. The gentlest type of chemical peel available is the glycolic acid peel that removes dead skin cells from the upper layer of skin only. These treatments are quick and are often referred to as "lunchtime peels," as they may only require ten to fifteen minutes in the doctor's office. However, the results of chemical peels are only temporary and the procedure must be repeated frequently.
