Have you ever seen cats playing? Have you noticed that when playing turns into fighting a cat will "puff up" when threatened? My two bundles of fur decided to have a major cat fight in my office. As I watched them I had one of those A-HA! moments. I suddenly realized that like cats, some people make themselves bigger, gain weight, when they feel vulnerable, threatened or consumed with anger. No matter how many diets, boot camps, exercise regimens, or sweat spas they try, the unwanted pounds remain. Like an armored shield excess poundage protects the vulnerable from threatening painful circumstances. It is too scary to shed those pounds!
The truth is, you don't do anything unless you get something out of it. You don't stay heavy unless carrying the excess weight gives you something in return. Do you know anyone who hides behind their weight to avoid dating or other social activities? If you don't have any love or friendship relationships you can't be rejected. If you don't lose weight you won't have to go out and buy new clothes. There are any number of hidden benefits of keeping the weight on.
The biggest one is you get to stay right where you are, in your current comfort zone. So, you hold yourself back by making sure you don't lose weight, or keep it off once you shed the extra poundage. At first you wear the fat suit like a costume to hide your real exposed self. Soon you forget the weight is robe to cover you up, protect you from any potential emotional storm - a perfect storm where self-esteem, desire, and fear collide. You -- the real you -- gets swept away with the torrential wind.
The good news is you are not your body. You are you. You are worthy, intuitive, zealous, authentic, responsible for your outcomes and decisive - when you are tapped into who you really are and what you really want to experience in your life, career and relationships. Push the mute button in your head, on the thoughts that keep you clinging to your weight. Reach for a new perspective by having a conversation with your heart. Rediscover that part of you that loves you unconditionally and knows that you will always be safe. This part of you has the confident courage to let go of what drags you down, holds you back, from achieving your most profound desires.
When you tap into your truth, the weight will begin to melt away. You will no longer be stuck frozen under the layers upon layers of protective tissue. Step out of your hiding place and share your magnificent self with the rest of the world. This is what you are here on this earth to do. Unwrap the gift of you to shine light upon yourself as you shine your light upon others. It is time to come out of the dark heavy cave of misguided cover. There isn't a diet in the world that can make you let go of your inauthentic costume. That freedom comes from within. Begin today. Look in the mirror and see, really see, the extraordinarily beautiful person you are.

Chiropractic Treatments Get You Back Into Competition by Nick Messe
Chiropractic care concentrates on keeping the body in tune with itself by maintaining alignment of the spine and joints. A chiropractic treatment might consist of a chiropractor massaging the muscles and soft tissue along the spine searching for subluxations, which are misalignments of the bones in the joint. When they find a subluxation, they manipulate it back into line. This is called an adjustment. Subluxations can pinch or block nerves, causing pain and poor communication between brain and muscle.
While it is obvious that a vertebral subluxation would cause pain, a chiropracter would believe that all physical maladies originate in these subluxations. Their belief is that if the vertebra is kept in alignment, the body will regulate itself and maintain health on its own, naturally. If you interrupt the flow, bad things will happen.
Sports chiropractic works in two ways. First, it is a preventive treatment. Regular adjustments and massages enhance the flow of blood, oxygenating all the muscles. This might be the most important use of chiropractic for athletes, as a proactive treatment to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place. When incorporated into a training regimen, chiropractic boosts the results of training and helps to prevent injury by increasing joint health and range of motion.
Famous professional sports superstars turn to chiropractic because it is non-invasive and does not include drugs. Tiger Woods, Martina Navratilova, Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrong had chiropractors who traveled with them for treatments before and after competition. When an athlete does suffer an injury, adjusting any subluxations that occurred during the injury will help speed the body back to its normal, healthy state.
Studies have shown that injured athletes treated with chiropractic recover faster than those who healed on their own. Football superstar Joe Montana said he recovered from a possibly career-ending injury to his back thanks to chiropractic treatments. In fact, before winning the 1990 Super Bowl, seventy-five percent of the San Francisco football team had chiropractic treatment.
Additionally, continued chiropractic treatments will keep the vertebra aligned and improve posture. Good posture has numerous health benefits itself, several of which overlap the benefits of chiropractic, so you get double the rewards. Chiropractic treatments will strengthen the immune system and increase concentration and focus. There is a reduced chance of injury and increased flexibility in the joints with continued chiropractic treatments and overall health is improved, since the body can efficiently regulate itself.
Find a sports chiropractor who understands that athletes want to recover and continue toward their goals. Find a chiropractor who knows that athletes want advice on keeping their body in top condition, ready for the challenges of competition. Work with your doctor to establish good training habits. Your body will give it all back to you, if you give it some preventive care.

The Lose Weight A Day At A Time Diet was created by Caroline Gosselin. Dr. Gosselin holds a doctorate in physiology-endocrinology. She feels that creating good daily habits will lead to losing weight. The best way that you can change progressively your food habits is to take into account hunger signals, engage in physical activity, and make sure to have pleasure. These suggestions mean you should make time for yourself, relax, and eat some special dishes. Here are some of the diet principles.
This diet is for women only. From time to time add a new food. Keep a log of what you eat and your daily activities. Set realistic objectives. You should put the accent on fruits, vegetables, and grains; they increase your metabolism and fill you. If you are no longer hungry don't force yourself to finish your plate. Don't count calories. Take the time to enjoy yourself. Drink water all day long. Practice a sport regularly. Follow the Canadian Food Guide. This means eating 5 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables daily; 2 to 3 servings of meat or meat substitutes including fish, eggs, or legumes; 5 to 12 servings of grains; and 2 to 4 portions of dairy products. This guide clearly defines what is meant by serving size, which differs from one food category to another.
One advantage of the Lose Weight A Day At A Time Diet is its respect for hunger signals. It is not restrictive because you are allowed to eat your fill. This diet encourages you to discover new foods. It is felt that there are no disadvantages to this diet.
Here are two of the sample menus:

I've Heard Of The Glycemic Index... But What Is It? by Andrew Mason
Scientists have found that we process different foods in different ways. As we discovered more about these anomalies, the glycemic index was developed to help us identify and regulate the carbohydrates that we eat, appropriately. We can now see how each of these carbs is processed and we can determine what can happen if we eat the wrong types of food. We can also see what happens when we prepare our foods a certain way and serve them in oversized portions.
The index runs between zero and 100 and foods that are found at the bottom of this range are classified as better for us. These foods can be processed and digested more slowly. The foods at the top of the range put way too much stress and strain on our systems, most notably the pancreas. This organ will have to produce high levels insulin in order to break down the result of a higher volume of carbohydrates. This activity can lead to the development of diabetes and can make it very difficult for us to control our weight.
To develop the concept further, a glycemic response was calculated which helps to show us how each carbohydrate can affect our blood glucose level. We need to avoid insulin level spikes caused by those simple carbohydrates and focus on complex carbs. As the body finds it more of a process to break down these foods and distribute the goodness, our organs are not overly stressed.
The glycemic index is composed of three categories and classifies carbs according to whether they are high, moderate or low. Foods at the very top end of the scale, with an index of 100, are equivalent to pure glucose. Highly indexed foods will make us feel less satisfied, bring on those hunger pangs more quickly and make us rush for a sugary snack to satisfy ourselves.
We can break a typical diet down into fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Each is important, but they must always be balanced. The glycemic index deals with carbohydrate rankings, but we also have to be sure that we keep the right amount of fat and protein in the diet, as well. We should know that fat and protein can help to counterbalance some of the worst effects of those high GI carbohydrates. We should also focus on getting as much fiber as possible within our daily diets, as this by itself can help to slow down a body's processing time.
If you are one of the unfortunate individuals to have diabetes, you must avoid altogether the foods found at the higher-end of the glycemic index, but for the rest of us we might not have to relegate them completely to the past. We are certainly advised to focus on foods at the bottom of the scale however, and this is where we find vegetables and fruits galore. If you do eat foods at the top of the list, always consume them with beneficial proteins.
You will certainly be more successful with your weight control efforts if you focus on the findings of the glycemic index. Did you know that a typical person could experience cravings as often as 10 times per day?

Beginners Yoga: Tips On How To Dominate Tension by Andy Guides Jr
Stemming from India's complex spiritual traditions, yoga has the reputation of unifying body, mind and spirit. However, today, many people choose it for non-religious reasons. It is an exercise regimen that is gentle enough for almost anyone.
The term is a derivation of a Sanskrit word that means union. In its more common usage, the term refers to the poses or asanas that are one of the means to achieving a sense of well being. The poses combine stretching with controlled breathing. There may also be meditative segments and guided imagery.
The best approach is to establish a consistent schedule of practice. Though most people think of yoga as involving extreme poses, variations are available so beginners who are not fit or flexible can still participate. All one needs is a mat, some comfortable clothing, and a teacher. Many options are available. These range from classes at community centers to events at yoga studios
It may take some experimenting to find the class that best suits one's body because they vary in intensity. A good place to start is in Hatha classes where the poses are simpler and the pace slower.
People who suffer from asthma or PMS may find relief through yoga. Stress reduction is another problem that can be addressed through practicing the asanas. One reason is that the required breath control takes focus. The mind is forced to relinquish its attachment to other thoughts. The body becomes relaxed and positive energy returns.
Here is one asana anyone can try now as long as the back is healthy. It is called the cat pose. It increases familiarity with the body's center and helps with coordinating movement and breathing. Begin on all fours, preferably on a padded surface so that there will be less pressure on the knees. Make sure the hands are straight down from the shoulders and the knees are straight down from the hips. Rock forward and back gently to find the place where the spine is straight and the body is balanced. Inhale. On the exhale, pull the abdominal muscles up and curve the spine. Drop the head so there is a single semi-circular line running from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Inhale and release the pose.
Though yoga requires consistent and serious effort, the rewards for perseverance are great. Not only does the body become stronger, the mind also gains strength and a sense of calm.

The Exercise Bicycle: The Easiest And Quickest Approach To Launching An Every Day Healthy Work Out Routine by Andy Guides Jr
There are great many of us that do not get as much exercise as we should. We make plans to join a gym or start eating healthy but after a few weeks most people give it up. Using exercise bicycles is a quick and convenient way to get the exercise needed. They come in a variety of styles and are a lot less expensive than joining a gym membership.
An upright or stationary bike is one that has been designed similar to a bicycle that is ridden outside. They are inexpensive and work well. They are made to use in a sitting or standing position and come with or without handlebars. They do not take up a lot of space and some models are made to fold up for easier storage.
The dual action models are created to give both the legs and the arms a workout. The handlebars move to provide an exercise routine to the arm and upper body areas. The pedals will provide exercise to legs and lower body. They can be a little higher in price than other models, but they are still in the affordable range. With the design meant to give a workout to the top and bottom parts of the body you will have quicker results than with a standard upright model.
The newest and most comfortable model are the recumbent styles. They are comfortable to use and do not give the resistance found in other models. The lack of resistance makes them easier to use while still getting a good workout. This style is great for someone who has been requiring physical therapy due to an injury because they will help to rebuild strength without excess strain.
These bikes can be found rather inexpensively and will sometimes be marked down in price during certain months of the year or when a new model becomes available. They are used for cardio workouts with great results as well as included in a general exercise routine.
Heart disease is becoming the number one cause of death among people of all ages, getting a daily routine of walking or cycling will help to keep the heart healthy and functioning correctly. Most of us do not want to go outside and walk or run when the weather is bad, using a form of exercise than can be done indoors year round is beneficial to our health.
Exercise bicycles are the perfect alternative to neglecting exercise due to the weather. They are an inexpensive alternative to joining a gym and can be done indoors away from the bad weather excuses we all use. One of the easiest ways to get on a daily routine is to schedule your riding time for the same time your favorite program comes on he TV. The stationary bike allows you to watch television at the same time you are giving your heart and other muscles a much-needed workout.

Acupuncture :-: An Age Old Cure For Modern Day Problems by Andy Guides Jr
Acupuncture had once been considered a fad by many of those practicing Western medicine, but it appears to be here to stay. All types of ailments, injuries and diseases have been treated with the use of this form of medicine. While many will continually debate how effective it is in treatment diseases, many others are devoted to this form of medicine.
Acupuncture first emerged in China thousands of years ago, and has been in use ever since. Ancient Chinese laws did not allow for surgery, so this technique was developed out of necessity. The basic practice is to push sharpened needles into the top layer, or just past the top layer of skin. Where the needles are placed depends on the exact diagnosis and illness associated.
Today, going to an acupuncturist is not much different than it was in the past. A person suffering from a medical affliction will go to a practitioner. They will be thoroughly examined, particularly the head region, and the specialist will begin to tailor a custom program of treatment. After the examination is done, the patient will be situated on a medical table and the acupuncturist will begin. The stainless steel needles are placed into the patients skin based upon a predetermined chart. After a variable amount of time has passed, the needles are taken out and the procedure itself is over. The acupuncturist will look for signs of effectiveness so that a conclusion can be made. In many situations multiple treatments will be needed until the ailment is alleviated.
It can be used to treat just about any illness. From minor injuries to serious diseases, people from all walks of life have utilized it for it's mysterious medical benefits. For those who are apprehensive about making an appointment, it should be known that acupuncturists are trained medical professionals. No one will be criticized for seeking treatment for any ailment.
If you are not sure where to start your quest for an acupuncturist, try looking in established Chinese communities. There will often be a variety of reputable practitioners in these areas. Chiropractors have been increasingly offering alternative medicine services as well. Another good place to look are learning centers. Just look in the same types of places that traditional doctors are known to have offices.
Before having any procedure done be sure to check the credentials of the practitioner. Just like Western medicine, acupuncture practitioners must receive certification after extended study. Also check to see if the needles used are disposable or properly sterilized before usage. Contaminated needles can transmit deadly diseases. Ask about potential side effects and be vocal if you experience any.
No one should needlessly suffer from any medical disorder, especially when numerous options exist to treat most ailments. Whether you are seeking an alternative to Western medicine or are just looking for something non-invasive, acupuncture can provide relief. Take the time to find a trusted professional and begin the process of trying a popular alternative to traditional medicine.

Is Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Possible? by Nick Messe
Like many of your friends, you enjoy getting up and heading to your local golf course for some good old fashioned competition. However, the back pain you have been experiencing has kept you from enjoying your passion for golf, not to mention many other facets of life. At times it gets so bad that you even have trouble leaving your bed.
You are yearning to get back to the life you are used to, including hitting the links with your friends, but the idea of back surgery is something that you don't even want to think about. What you need to keep in mind is that spinal surgery is much less complicated than it used to be. There are now minimally invasive procedures that are easily performed that can have you back on your feet and swinging your clubs again in no time.
Minimally invasive spine surgery maximizes the relief of your symptoms while minimizing surgical dissection. This type of surgery has many advantages over traditional back surgery. There are also non-operative procedures that may be able to help your situation. The first thing you should do is look for a back specialist in your area. By consulting with a professional you may find that the problem can be treated much easier than you had ever imagined.
There are many back problems that can now be corrected using minimally invasive back surgery. Minimally invasive techniques can be used to stabilize fractures, as a means of spinal canal decompression, and to correct spinal deformities. These simple procedures can also be used to remove herniated discs that are putting pressure on the nerve roots of the spine, thus causing weakness, pain, and numbness. The spine may also need to be stabilized or fused with instrumentation, which may sound complicated, but with the new Minimal Access Spinal Technologies that are now available, known as MAST, the procedure is now quick and virtually painless.
This new technology means you don't need to worry about being laid up for a number of weeks recovering from the surgery you have undergone. Minimally invasive back surgery can have you walking around pain-free and getting back to life as you knew it much faster than has ever been possible before. You will also experience much less pain after the operation and experience less damage to your skin and muscles than ever before.
Minimally invasive spinal surgery now results in smaller, hardly noticeable scars, unlike the very noticeable scars that usually occur with traditional spine surgery, and a minimal amount of blood loss. Your hospital stay will be short-lived, with many patients even able to have the surgery they need performed on an out-patient basis. This means you will be able to resume your normal, everyday activities much faster than ever before.
No longer do you have to sit around denying yourself the mobility you desire because of the complications of major back surgery. Consulting with a professional about minimally invasive back surgery can get you the relief you need and help you get back on the golf course within a matter of days.

Do You Know If You Are A Bronchial Asthma Sufferer? by Andy Guides Jr
People who have asthma have a pulmonary dysfunction that makes breathing difficult or even impossible. In the United States, there are over 20 million people who have this condition. This is a problem that can hamper a person's quality of life and even lead to death. Asthma comes in two forms and can have many underlying causes. Physicians have a variety of options available to treat patients.
People who think they might have asthma need to understand the condition. When lungs function normally, a person inhales and the lungs process oxygen. The person then exhales. When someone with this pulmonary disorder has an attack, the lungs become narrow and breathing in or out is difficult. The lungs constrict and inflammation causes swelling.
When allergies are the cause, a person's immune system overreacts to a substance. Also, in some people, exercise leads to symptoms. In some cases, workers breathe in substances at work that cause their breathing problems. Cough variant asthma is the second type. In this form, the person coughs in a non-productive manner and coughing is the only symptom.
The cough variant of the condition can be more difficult to diagnose. This is because lung function can be normal. With this type, symptoms are often treated with similar medications as the more common constriction type.
As with any medical condition, patients need to consult with their physician for diagnosis and treatment. This is important whether the patient has the more common form or the cough variant.
Doctors decide treatments based on how bad the symptoms are and what causes the attacks. Avoiding triggers can help sufferers avoid symptoms when they have allergic or work-based attacks. Many patients use allergy tests to determine what their allergic triggers are. Also, some patients use treatment options for their allergies to reduce symptoms.
There are a variety of medications that doctors can prescribe for their patients. There are medicines that reduce the frequency of symptoms and attacks. These are taken every day. Also, rescue inhalers are used when an attack occurs to provide immediate relief. Physicians will often prescribe both in order to manage symptoms. However, doctors sometimes need to try different medications and treatments to help each patient achieve optimal results.
Asthma has serious consequences for the people living with it. It's a medical condition that requires a doctor's care. Physicians find the treatments that work best for each patient. This means that patients can manage their symptoms and live their lives to the fullest, even with asthma.

Modern Dentists Can Perform Miracles In Your Mouth by Nick Messe
Today's modern dentist is able to offer a greater amount of personalized care than ever before, and you will discover that your visits are both stress-free and comfortable. This is especially true in a small office where one dentist is the sole provider and gets to know their patients very well.
Such a professional also uses the latest techniques in every phase of dentistry, including intra-oral cameras, digital x-rays, laser cavity detection, and preventive, implant, and cosmetic dentistry. There are many services that modern dentists have to offer.
White fillings are composite resins that enable your dentist to match the shade and color of your tooth. In addition, they are bonded to your teeth and virtually undetectable. Your dentist can provide porcelain crowns if your teeth have become broken, decayed, worn, or cracked.
Digital x-rays called radiographs enable your dentist to produce detailed images that can be studied at once. The clarity of these images has been greatly enhanced, exposure to radiation is much less than compared to older methods, and the films are produced without using any toxic chemicals.
Because of the advancements that have been made, implants are often used to replace one or more missing teeth. A titanium screw provides a new root that your dentist will use for attaching new teeth without affecting those adjacent to it in any way.
Dental implants are often the best solution in regard to replacing several missing teeth as well. An all-ceramic dental bridge or crown, attached to a dental implant that replaces the root of the missing tooth, will provide the answer to your problem.
Intra-oral photography is one of the newest techniques. Using a special camera, your dentist can photograph your teeth with high magnification for both of you to review. The images often indicate problems that normally would not be visible, and they can then be treated before they become more serious.
Porcelain veneers can provide patients who have front teeth that are discolored, stained, slightly crooked, or unevenly spaced with an attractive, brand-new smile. Then, to put the icing on the cake, there are whitening methods that use today's advanced chemical technology to achieve the desired degree of whiteness. No laser or light is required, the procedure takes about an hour, and the results are truly impressive.
Tooth decay and gum disease are two serious enemies that can undermine your dental health. They are caused by the bacteria found in the mouth and the harmful products they produce. To combat these, you need to make use of two complementary weapons, taking proper care of your teeth on a daily basis and scheduling regular visits to your dentist.

Grow Up. Move Out. Move On. by Valery Satterwhite
I often ask successful people what was the best piece of advice they ever got from a parent. What words of wisdom carried them forward as they achieved their personal and professional goals? Responses such as "Don't take anything for granted", "You have to work hard and struggle for success" and "It takes money to make money" are among the most common. I posed this same question to Wendy, a woman I met at a luncheon not long ago. Her quick response was "Grow up. Move out." That was her Dad's mantra to her ever since she was a very young child.
Wendy had a good, loving relationship with her father. He is no longer with us yet his sage word of advice echo in Wendy's conscious every day. The wisdom has changed a bit over the years. "Move Out" now means: Out of my comfort zone! Wendy is now a very successful financial planner and the Mother to two beautiful children. "Grow Up. Move out" encouraged Wendy to take full responsibility for her life.
She allowed her inner child to grow up without fear and self-doubt while maintaining a playfully creative approach to life's challenges and opportunities. Wendy never empowered her Inner Critic, the part of her that has the ability to hold her back. She always relied on her True Self, that strong powerful voice within her that is pure intuition and the birthplace of inspiration to guide her. Whenever choices had to be made, especially difficult ones, Wendy remembered her Dad's advice, "Grow Up. Move Out".
And Wendy grew up and moved out fast! She was a respected high school graduate at age 15 and graduated college with honors at 18. She married a few years later and pursued a career in financial planning. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer when she was pregnant with their second child. Her husband did not survive long after the birth. "Grow Up. Move On." the winds of change echoed. So empowered, Wendy navigated the troubled waters of a young widowed mother building a new life for herself and her children. There were many many challenges to overcome. How would the children be cared for? How can she continue to build a career? How do you pick up the piece of a life shattered by such a tragedy? "Grow Up. Move On." Take full responsibility for what you want to experience moving forward.
People sometimes fall-back into old childish patterns of behavior when triggered with a devastating experience. There is a tendency to crawl back to a place where you feel safe, feel protected, and can hide. This desire to grab for any internal comfort that you can find often empowers the Inner Critic, the voice of self-doubt and fear. This is the voice that protected you, helped you cope, in your environment when you were little. You are no longer a child and cannot move on if you are frozen in fear or doubt your abilities or what is possible for you.
Wendy moved on and formed a company with her Father to help others build financial wealth and security. It wasn't long before her father was also diagnosed with cancer. He died within a few months. "Grow up. Move Out". Wendy continued to grow from this experience and moved on the become an advocate to empower widowed women to protect and enrich their financial future. Her words of advice for them is "Grow up. Move Out" Wendy now teaches others who face the similar tragedies and challenges how to put one foot in front of the other, how to "Grow UP. Move Out." Get it going. Get it done.
Wendy tells her story with a broad smile on her face. To many, it is a very tragic tale. To Wendy she has lived a blessed life. She continues to find joy and inspiration in her daily life. Each morning presents another opportunity to continue to grow and move beyond her current comfort zones. "Grow Up. Move Out." is the lifelong gift from her Dad that propels Wendy forward as she turns her dreams into reality.
Another way of saying "Grow Up. Move Out" is simply "Get your moxie mojo going!"
I invite you to muster up your moxie as Wendy did. Have the confident courage to achieve authentic greatness with unrelenting drive and passion.

What is Laser Eye Treatment For? by Kathryn Dawson
Laser eye treatment is appropriate for a large number of eye problems. The surgery itself is a very quick and painless procedure which doctors may use when carrying out tasks such as inserting a new lens or relieving pressure on theye. It does sound worse than it really is. The reality is patients feel nothing during the surgery due to an anesthetic being used beforehand and there is only very mild discomfort afterwards. There may be a few days when the patient is overly sensitive to bright lights and sunlight, but often patients are back at work just a day or two later.
The advancements in laser eye surgery have made it one of the most popular types of treatment for a range of eye problems. This article acts as a guide to some of the problems that laser eye surgery can help fix.
Cataracts
These occur as a person ages and are caused by clouding of the lens. It can lead to partial blindness if left untreated but the good news is that the cloudiness is removed by the replacing the lens with an artificial one.
Glaucoma
This is a serious condition caused when there is not enough space to allow fluid to pass freely from the eye. When this occurs pressure builds up which can lead to problems with sight, as well as nausea and headaches. Although surgery can prevent the condition worsening, it cannot help restore sight to how it was originally so if you are suffering from blurred vision or are seeing wavy lines then you should seek medical attention.
Macular Degeneration
There are two types of macular degeneration. Both involve the break down in the function of the retina and both are very serious. Surgery goes a long way however to fix these conditions and can be extremely successful in either restoring site or preventing the condition from getting any worse. Dry AMD is caused when the cells in the light sensitive area of the macular begin to break down and wet AMD is caused when there is abnormal tissue growth in the eye which leads the retina to start becoming detached. There is treatment available for both conditions and should be taken if possible as leaving either of these conditions could result in blindness, particularly the rarer of the two conditions, wet AMD.
Diabetic Retinopathy
This is a problem for sufferers of diabetes as the illness affects the blood vessels in the eye, prompting the retina to become detached or at the very least become affected by weak and leaking vessel walls. This is extremely serious and regular check ups should be made so this can be diagnosed early on. Laser eye surgery can help restore sight and can be a very effective treatment.
Other conditions that can be treated are Blepharospasm, Dry Eye Syndrome and Pterygium, none of which are very serious but all of which can cause problems with sight and affect a person’s everyday life.
The technology of laser eye surgery has advanced greatly over the years and it is a safe and straightforward procedure that is capable of correcting a host of conditions. Outlined above are some of the most serious conditions that if left untreated can cause blindness so if you or a member of your family are suffering from poor vision or eyesight then there could be help at hand. It is very important that regular eye checks are made throughout your life. About once a year when you are younger but increasing as you age. There are a number of eye conditions that can be prevented with good diet and exercise during your lifetime too so make sure you eat well and stay healthy. Laser eye treatment is available however for a variety of problems including wet macular degeneration.

When Should You Visit An Emergency Dentist? by Jeff Schuman
An emergency dentist is someone that you need to have a phone number for ahead of time. Dental problems can occur at any time. That is why you need to be aware of what exactly an emergency would be.
There are many instances that would be considered an emergency. Below are some of the most common types of dental emergencies that can happen at any time to anyone.
One: Unexpected, excruciating pain - An emergency would be an unexpected toothache with really severe pain that just won't let you wait till morning.
This is especially true if this type of tooth problem happens with children. Children have less tolerance for pain then adults. Plus, with adults and especially children, if the problem is a bad one, other health problems can happen from it.
Two: Broken tooth or broken jaw - If you have a broken jaw, the first place you will go is the hospital, but a dentist will have to get involved at some point. This reason this is important is because your teeth could have been damaged.
This is something that is definitely considered an emergency for anyone of any age and should be fixed right away.
Three: Problems with dentures - There are thousands of people that wear dentures these days. If you have a problem with your denture, like it has been fractured, then get to your dentist.
You will need to get your denture fixed right away so you don't have to go without teeth. It is also smart so that there are no other problems caused by trying to wear a broken denture.
One thing that is important to understand is that you have to be very clear about your dental problem. Thoroughly explain what is causing the pain so the dentist can best determine the right treatment to help you the most.
The dentist will know what to do to help you with the pain so it can be gotten rid of faster. You can be sure they will get it fixed correctly if you don't explain the problem well.
This is especially important when a child is the one with the problem. You don't want them to suffer anymore than they have to, so be very clear when describing the problem.
These are just a handful of the times that would require an emergency dentist. If you believe you have an emergency, but are not sure, just call the dentist. Every dentist should have some type of emergency contact number. Find out what it is and don't be afraid to use it when you need to.

A New Way Of Eating: The GI Diet Meal Plan by Andrew Mason
How many different dietary plans are there? There are so many around that it's no wonder that we are confused, as we try and fail to make a difference. Some of them tell us that we should eat only protein, while others tell us that this is completely the wrong approach and we need to stock up on carbohydrates. Wherever you look, it seems as if everybody has a different opinion. One of the better diets revolves around the concept of the glycemic index. We're told that foods toward the bottom of this index are more preferable and that we can avoid the worst effects associated with high blood sugar levels here.
Many different dietary plans have been developed around the glycemic index rankings. One of the better known versions is the South Beach diet. Not only will such a diet help us to control weight fluctuations, but it can help us to avoid diseases such as diabetes, or to control the symptoms if we already suffer.
Above all else, we must develop a dietary plan around the individual's needs. Each one of us has to go through this process to find out what is ultimately the best for us and we have to try and exclude a number of different diets as we do so. This is a bit of a process, for sure, and you might benefit from seeking out the advice of a registered dietitian.
The glycemic index-based diet is preferable as it helps us to regulate the effect that certain types of carbohydrates have on our bodies. Not all carbs are the same and some are digested more quickly than others. When they are digested quickly, high blood glucose levels can result - part of the glycemic response. When this happens, fat reserves are created, together with higher levels of insulin - not a good combination, and to be avoided if possible.
When we consider the glycemic response of the carbohydrate, we have to consider the origin of the food, whether it is processed and how we have prepared and cooked it. These are important considerations, as a particular food can have very different effects when it is cooked, as opposed to being raw.
Right at the bottom of the glycemic index are the best foods of all. It's here that we find the nutrition filled fruits, vegetables and beans that we must put at the core of our glycemic diet plan. As always, study the index carefully and don't assume anything. Certain foods are not as good as others and ripened bananas or cooked carrots can be found at the higher ends of the scale.
Your dietary plan should focus on complex carbohydrates and vegetables at the low end of the glycemic index, balanced against the right amount of lean protein. Chicken and fish are preferable sources of protein and fish in particular has a number of other health benefits due to its particular properties and Omega-3 fatty acids. Moderate your diet and by all means enjoy it, so sprinkle in some of those simple carbohydrates from time to time, as well.

What Is a Periodontist? by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn
A periodontist is a dental specialist with specific training in gum treatment. If you have any kind of gum issue – periodontitis, long or short gums, missing teeth – an Austin periodontist can address it.
How a Dentist Becomes a Periodontist
A periodontist is required to fulfill the same training a dentist must complete, plus a few years of additional gum-specific studies. First, they get a Bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as anatomy or biology). Then, they study for 4 more years in dental school, leaving with a degree for Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM). Three more years follow as the dentists study periodontics, learning and practicing how to prevent, diagnose and treat gum-related oral conditions.
How to Choose a Periodontist
If your teeth require periodontal treatment, your dentist often refers you to a periodontist. However, if you’d simply like a second opinion on a periodontal issue, you can make an appointment with a periodontist’s office yourself. If you’re looking for a qualified Austin periodontist, call Dr. Mike Williamson for a free consultation.
What Services a Periodontist Offers
A periodontist essentially provides cutting-edge treatments for most gum issues. Here are a few of the treatments a periodontist can offer:
Crown Lengthening. To treat overgrown gums.
Gingival Grafting. To cover exposed tooth roots.
Dental Implants. To replace a missing tooth.
Gum Disease Treatment. From a simple scaling and root planing to a more extensive gum surgery.
How a Periodontist Addresses Gum Disease
If the gum disease is in its early stages, they’ll conduct a scaling and root planing to thoroughly clean the area and diminish the possibility of the disease’s return. If it’s progressed further, it may require gum surgery. In more extreme circumstances, gum disease may result in bone loss and receding gums. Bone grafting and crown lengthening address these issues.
To get a second opinion, schedule a free consultation with Dr. Williamson today. Dr. Williamson can offer any of the above dental work, in addition to many other gum-related procedures addressing a variety of oral health concerns.

Eliminate Varicose Veins with Endovenous Laser Treatment by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn
Who wants something on their body called “spider”? Spider and varicose veins plague thousands of people in the United States alone. Even if you’ve made peace with your body, it’s a little less easy to make peace with the spindly lines lacing the legs. And luckily, you don’t have to. Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) can eliminate spider and varicose veins swiftly and comfortably.
The EVLT Procedure
The EVLT process is swift and painless, allowing your Austin phlebologist to erase patients’ spider and varicose veins. Before and during the EVLT, ultrasound waves help the vein professional pin down precisely where the spider and varicose veins are located. Some veins trail off under the skin, making only part of them visible or no part at all. To make sure the EVLT accurately removes all the necessary veins, the ultrasound is used. Anesthetic applied to the specific areas allows the patient to undergo the procedure without any discomfort. The vein specialist inserts a small needle into each vein, delivering a laser probe from that needle. The laser causes the veins to collapse, closing them so they eventually dissolve. It only takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and most patients choose to return to work the same day.
After the procedure, a compression bandage is applied. It’s recommended that patients wear compression stockings for about a week after treatment. Daily walks are encouraged, but hold off on extensive exercise for a week or two.
Expect mild pain, bruises and possible discoloration after the EVLT procedure. All side effects should be temporary. Generally, over-the-counter pain medications are enough to relieve any lingering irritants.
Is EVLT Dangerous?
Not in the least. The process of eliminating a vein has no negative side effects; the legs have so many veins, closing a few simply redirects the blood flow to more functional veins. This may even improve the patient’s circulation. The laser energy involved in EVLT allows for hardly any complications, as opposed to general surgery which comes with a number of risks. With a high success rate and no leftover scars, EVLT is a popular treatment option amongst patients and vein specialists for spider and varicose vein treatment.
To discuss the benefits of Endovenous Laser Treatment, call Zimmet Vein & Dermatology today. They’ll schedule you for an initial consultation, at which time Dr. Zimmet, renowned phlebologist, will discuss your unique situation with you.

Spider Veins: What You Need to Know by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn
Spider veins are those small red and white lines reticulating across your legs or face. Whether it’s a cosmetic issue, a physical irritant or a more sinister danger, spider veins warrant treatment.
What Are Spider Veins?
More often than not, spider veins are simply an aesthetic annoyance. They can make people keep their legs covered during the summer, hiding in their jeans off to the side of the swimming pool. Due to their appearance, they can affect confidence levels, lowering self-esteem and making people more self-conscious of normal, everyday actions.
Although varicose veins tend to carry the most painful side effects, spider veins may also cause discomfort. Some people experience itching and burning sensations around the affected areas, distracting from daily life.
Additionally, spider veins may point to more significant issues. They may be the only visible sign of blood backup or varicose veins beneath the surface of the skin. To discover the extent of your spider vein issues, ask your Austin dermatology clinic for an ultrasound. The ultrasound will discover just how much vein damage is hidden from view.
What Causes Spider Veins?
Research has yet to determine the direct causes of spider veins. However, some indicators suggest a higher likelihood of their development.
Genetics. If your family has a history of spider veins, you’re more likely to develop spider veins.
Gender. Women suffer from spider veins more frequently than men. Female hormones seem to affect spider veins; for example, in instances of puberty, pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills, spider veins can be more common.
Injury.
Sun Exposure. Sun damage causes numerous skin conditions; it can also contribute to the formation of spider veins.
Obesity. The more weight leg veins have to support, the more difficult circulation becomes.
Immobility. The less you move, the more likely it is that spider veins will form. If you have a job which requires a lot of standing still – teacher, hair stylist, nurse – or sitting still – secretary, office clerk, research assistant – try to take breaks and walk around whenever possible.
How Can I Prevent Spider Veins?
Unfortunately, there’s no absolute guarantee against spider veins. However, a few factors may help your chances of avoiding their development. Support hose such as compression stockings can encourage blood flow. Maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly maintains a regular circulation pattern. Using sunscreen regularly reduces your chances of developing spider veins.
What Spider Vein Treatment Options Are Available?
Your Austin dermatology clinic offers a number of spider vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy and Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT). For more information on which specific treatment option will best affect your spider veins, call Zimmet Vein & Dermatology. Their qualified dermatologist and vein specialist, Dr. Zimmet, will prepare a personalized treatment plan for your particular condition.

One thing you might not know is that your body pays the price when you try to take on more than is humanly possible. You could potentially go into depression, or have a stroke. Everyone has automatic coping mechanisms like drinking too much liquor, or smoking. If you want to be honest with yourself, then you know this is not healthy in the least for the body. However there are other things you can do which will affect everybody in a good way. We will go over those in a moment. You want to make healthy choices as opposed to harming your body further.
If you can make yourself relax, then you will be halfway there. Make a habit of meditating, or deep breathing. When you feel like you're getting anxious then you know how to relieve those feelings right away.
One way to reduce anxiousness is to stay away from places or people that you know make you uncomfortable. Think about you first, keeping calm and relaxed is all you need to worry about.
