The Truth About Abs: How To Get Great Abs Without Some Gimmicky Secret by James Druman

I promise you this is not another one of those "easy" how to get great abs guides. Everywhere you turn these days, there is another corny infomercial or gimmick diet drink popping up, and most of these so called "secrets" don't even have a degree of truth behind them.

Like it or lump it, the saying that six pack abs are made in the kitchen is true. Although there some great training methods out there that can help, the truth about abs, the largest piece to the six pack abs puzzle is not in the gym, it's in your kitchen.

So if the answer is in the kitchen, let's really nail down the key points.

First, you have to get enough protein in your diet. Protein provides the building blocks of muscle. Now, I'm not talking about those crazy all protein/ no carb diets. But if you really want to nail down how to get great abs, you must know that protein is really going to build the muscle in your core.

While getting a bunch of quality protein, you also have to get good dietary fats into your body. I know it sounds funny eating fat to get 6 pack abs, but I am not talking about eating deep fried chocolate bars; I am talking about the good fats that you hear about, like avocado, fish oil, seeds, and nuts.

These foods have something called mono and polyunsaturated fats. The real key to those big words is the unsaturated part. These are the fats that are going to help stabilize the body's insulin levels and keep the body burning calories all day long.

And don't think that your body doesn't need carbs at all. It does, but another key to the truth about abs is understanding what kinds or carbs the body really needs. You need to be taking in a good amount of carbs with your post workout meal. This is because the body uses them most effectively at that time to really repair the damaged muscle tissue. But most importantly, you should be cutting way down on simple carbs and focusing strictly on complex—like whole grains rather than processed.

Also, try eating 1-2 cups of raw colorful veggies around this time. The more colorful the better. This will give your body the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants it needs to recoup. Vegetables have a great amount of fiber in them as well, and this will keep your metabolism high and improve your core.

So what it all comes down to is that if you want to know how to get great abs "fast," you need to start in your kitchen. I personally struggled with this for some time. I was training hard at the gym and wondering why I still had a little pouch around my waist. Plain and simple, getting your diet under control is as important as doing the exercises.

That's this secret, hidden "the truth about abs" that everyone has been alluding to—all you need is a little self discipline.
