Daily Weight Loss Motivation

Daily Weight Loss Motivation
 by: Ben E Sather

When you are faced with the daily challenge of trying to lose weight, you will need to find ways to stay motivated every day. The factors that keep weight loss motivation high include your specific goals, your ability to envision what you want to achieve, and the degree of success you have in the beginning.
Daily motivation requires a special, concerted effort, and it is not always easy. One great way to keep weight loss motivation high is to find an Internet support group to check in with every day. There are many such chat groups and forums on the web.
Another idea is to keep a daily journal of your progress, struggles and success. You can keep a record of your daily diet or write in your journal about the journey and challenge of losing weight and the emotions connected to it.
Weight loss motivation will stay fresh with something tangible that you can look at to remind you of your goals. For example, you can tape a picture of yourself when you were at a more ideal weight to your refrigerator door. You can buy an outfit in your ideal size and hang it in your closet where you will see it every day. There are many books filled with affirmations and inspiration for dieters. Buy one, and read a bit of it every day.
The motivation to lose weight may not come from the same place every day. If you can develop some strategies for keeping your daily motivation high, you are much more likely to be successful and bounce back quickly if you have any setbacks. Whatever you ultimately see as your motivation for losing weight, you do not have to face the challenge alone.
There are resources and people available for anyone who takes the time to seek them. Make a daily commitment to do at least one thing in support of your goal, and you may soon find that the behaviors that support weight loss have become second nature to you!

Terri Schiavo's Gift

Terri Schiavo's Gift
 by: Vicki Rackner, MD

Terri Schiavo and her family have given us a gift. They remind us that planning for your death is your final act of love.
For the past few weeks, we have witnessed painful lessons we would prefer to ignore. Death is a part of life. Tragic medical events befall even young people, often at unexpected times. And difficult decisions accompany the final days of life.
When you enter the medical system, your job as a patient is to make choices. The process, called informed consent, involves weighing the risks and benefits of one intervention and comparing it with alternatives. While these are called medical choices, they are really personal choices, reflecting your values, preferences and spiritual beliefs. That's why, according to US law, medical ethics and common decency, you as the patient are the one who chooses.
You always have the option of choosing no treatment at all. Our law states that a competent adult has the right to refuse treatment even if it means that he or she will die without it.
One day you may not be in a position to make choices for yourself. The medical and legal systems have provided mechanisms to guide the decisions you would make for yourself - if you could.
This is a good time to complete and sign two important legal documents: your *advanced directive,* sometimes called a *living will,* and a durable power-of-attorney. The advanced directive outlines your wishes for medical treatment. Give your doctor a copy and take it with you should you enter the hospital. Let your family know where this document is. You can also assign a durable power- of- attorney form that identifies the person who will make the choices for you, if you become unable to make them yourself.
The papers summarize important conversations you need to have with your doctor and with those you love. Give those who will make choices as clear a roadmap as possible.
You will be asked to make choices for others you love, like your parents. This is a good time to approach them with this delicate conversation. Say, *Mom and Dad, I'm so happy that you're in good health. It's painful to even consider your final days. I love you and want to make sure your wishes are honored, even if you can't state them yourself. If you cannot speak for yourself, who would you like to speak for you? What would you want if you were in Terri Schiavo's condition?*
If you find yourself in a position of making choices for someone you love, remember this. Your job is not to make the choice you think is best. Your job is to make the choice you think your loved one would make for himself or herself.
You can honor Terri Schiavo's life and legacy by planning for your own death. Hopefully you will die in peace and comfort, surrounded by those you love. By communicating your end-of-life wishes in advance, you offer a gift to those you leave behind. And in deciding how to die, may you get a renewed vision of how you want to live.

What Happens When a Pilot gets a DUI/DWI?

What Happens When a Pilot gets a DUI/DWI?
 by: Stuart Simpson

Your worst nightmare as a pilot – a DUI. Will this end your career as a pilot? What if you are the lawyer representing a pilot? Is this a simple DUI case or will it end your law career with a malpractice lawsuit? I know these questions can light up your eyes to why a pilot is different when they get a DUI.
First, pilot or not, you have to follow your state laws. Keep in mind your time frame for appeals or administrative hearings. You could probably get your driver's license back under an occupational license during your suspension. Even if its your first offense, you better be on your toes if you want to keep flying.
Second, pilots fall under another set of rules from the FAA. They are the FARS (Federal Aviation Regulations). Do you have to report to the FAA now or later? Can I just put it on my FAA First Class Medical Certificate? Can I just call the CFI (certified flight instructor) at the local FAA office FSDO (Flight Standards District Office)?
Your most important resource (lawyer or pilot) is Section 61.15 of the FARS. Section (e) states that you must report "not later than 60 days after the motor vehicle action". It lists the things you must submit to the FAA, Civil Action Security Division in Oklahoma City, not your local FSDO. This is very serious as section (f) states "Failure to comply with paragraph (e) of this section is grounds for . . .(2) Suspension or revocation of any certificate, rating, or authorization issued under this part."
In summary, what do you do? If you are convicted of a DUI/DWI, it must be reported on your medical application. You also have to notify the FAA in Oklahoma City within 60 days of the conviction. Do NOT contact the local FSDO, as this is NOT incompliance with the FARS. Do this quick or face a suspension for a non-reporting violation.
Drinking and Driving is bad. Drinking and flying is worse. Both can end careers, lives and marriages. They can even take innocent victims. Also, if you have two separate incidents within a 3-year period, then the FAA can deny an application or revoke/suspend a pilot's license. You can avoid all of this by not drinking and driving.

What to Look For In Selecting A High Quality Nutritional Supplement!

What to Look For In Selecting A High Quality Nutritional Supplement!
 by: Nick A. James

Have you ever purchased something thinking you had bought a really good product only to later find out that you could have had a better product for the same money? I know I have. And our friend Henry is shortly about to discover this sick feeling for himself in a very personal way. You see, Henry had never seen the information contained in this report.
Your good health is far to precious to entrust solely to doctors. But how much is your health worth to you? Each of us everyday by our actions, rather we realize it or not, places a value on our own health. To some it is like diamonds or gold, to others it is often treated as so much rubbish. But each of us to a large degree has the ability to determine his or her own health. - Both good and bad.
By being concerned about your health and taking appropriate steps, shows you are analogous to a smart investor. This Free report will not only make you a smarter investor in your health, but will show you that you can get the very best products and end up spending the same or less than the very worse nutritional products.
It has been said that a truly smart investor knows what he is investing in, before investing a dime of his money. This is why the rich get richer. No one would knowingly invest in a poor performing stock or investment which is going to lose money. Yet many people do this everyday when they purchase a poor quality nutritional product and don't even give it a second thought. It is not that they are stupid, it is just that no one has shown them anything different.
This report is intended to help you better invest in the health solutions that make your life richer.
The rich simply have an abundance of information and knowledge which allows them to manage risk and consistently come out on top. The rich consider investing without enough of the right kind of information akin to extremely risky behavior or even gambling.
Of course your health is much more important than money. When you are investing in any nutritional product you are essentially investing in your health (either good or bad).
Mainly due to the lack of proper information, the majority of people don't make wise decisions in regards to nutrition and their health. These people are living at risk. However, there are always the few truly smart people who are able to sort through all of the rhetoric and risky health products. These are the people who make the best health decisions for themselves and their families because they have essentially "insider" information other people don't have.
There are huge differences in the quality and effectiveness of nutritional products. However, the majority of people still think that a vitamin is a vitamin is a vitamin. However, his mindset is slowly changing.
Impatience is the downfall of so many of us.
This is why it is important not to give up too early on the best nutritional products. The best nutritional products "always work" - but most people don't understand how they work and most people give up too soon - not giving them a chance to work.
You see the very best nutritional products contain: the best antioxidants the best herbs the best minerals the best enzymes the best vitamins and the best of everything.
For example the best antioxidant products always remove more free radicals than the cheaper products. This helps better protect your body from disease and aging.
The very best nutritional products are much more highly absorbable than cheap products delivering many more precious nutrients to your body. You see the mis-conception most people have about nutritional products is they read the label and the cheap product says for example 500 mg Vitamin C, 500 Mg Calcium. Then they read the label of the high quality and it says essentially the same thing.
Except here is the big difference - with the cheap product your body in some cases only absorbs 5-10 percent of the nutrients. While in the high quality product your body can easily absorb 5 -10 times or even more of these valuable nutrients.
This is because manufactures are only required to put on the label what they put in the product before manufacture. This can be a far cry from how much your body absorbs of the final product. The high quality products are formulated so your body absorbs a much higher amount of the actual product.
Here are the characteristics that only the highest quality products employ during development.
First let me share with you a little bit about the nutrition and herbal industry as a whole.
Raw Materials
First of all did you know that they are huge differences in the quality of herbal raw materials. There can be big differences in the amount of active ingredients based upon where the plant was grown, the seed used for growing, what part of the plant is being used, how the plant was harvested, when it was harvested, and even how the plant was stored. Plus some batches can have many more contaminants and impurities than others.
Raw ingredients especially herbals should be stored in low humidity and a low temperature environment and yet many aren't stored properly.
Of course a good product starts with strict inspection processes of the raw materials.
Raw materials are screened, inspected and even quarantined to assure they meet optimal standards.
Any tablets and capsules go through strict sizing and weight requirements.
Also a good quality capsule, tablet supplement will contain a coating for ease of swallowing and this coating will typically contain a high quality antioxidant like alpha-lipoic acid to help protect the tablet against oxidation and loss of potency.
The Product Testing Phase
High quality nutrition supplements will undergo a Battery of Tests like:
Disintegration Testing – tests to insure tablet will disintegrate under conditions found in the human body
Dissolution Testing - tests to insure tablet will dissolve in order to be absorbed and utilized by the body.
Microbiological Analysis - tests to insure absence of harmful bacteria, yeast, and mold.
Potency Analysis – tests using sophisticated laboratory equipment like Spectrometry, Chromatography and Spectroscopy.
Content Uniformity Analysis – In this test samples are analyzed to make sure that they contain the same levels of active ingredients.
Also with high quality supplements the manufacturer pays great attention to packaging to assure it protects the valuable active ingredients.
So you now have a basic idea of what to look for in a super high quality nutritional supplement.

How to Have Great Sex - Nutrition and Foods That Create Passion!

How to Have Great Sex - Nutrition and Foods That Create Passion!
 by: Nick A. James

Is the thrill gone? Has the thrill gone out of your love life and sex. Do you just spend boring evening after boring evening together watching the prime time TV lineups. On the weekends he watches sports with the guys, she goes shopping with the gals. You eventually wake up one day thinking - "Gee my life and sex life have gotten pretty dull!"
Well it doesn't have to be that way. Would you like to put some spice back in your sex life? Well you can. This article focuses on two main aspects of foods and nutrition - one what foods and nutrients are needed to help your body function properly for sex and the other being to help your brain properly function.
The main ingredient that makes sex exciting is the brain and how it functions and how well it functions.
After all it is the brain which makes visual images exciting and interprets sensual smells and a sexy sounding voice.
And it ain't your feet, which dreams up creative fun sexual scenarios for you and your partner.
This article deals with food and nutrients for the brain as it relates to sex.
Eating Foods and Nutrition to Improve Your Sexual Pleasure
Here are some of the recommended vitamins, nutrients and foods:
B-Complex Vitamins – The B-complex vitamins B-1 (thiamin), B-2 (riboflavin) and B-3 (niacin) are all needed for a healthy sex drive.
Vitamin B-1 is found in grains, asparagus and raw nuts Vitamin B-2 is found in asparagus, bananas, broccoli and lean meats. Niacin Vitamin B-3 dilates blood vessels, creating better blood flow, and it also is important to sex hormones.
Vitamin C helps keep your various sex glands running smoothly. Antioxidants help protect the sexual organs and the prostate gland from free radicals.
Vitamin E aids sex hormone production and improves circulation and is found in whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Zinc is needed to produce testosterone, the male sex hormone and is contained in oysters, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, spinach and garlic.
Other valuable nutrients are:
Biotin -boosts normal health of male sex glands. Folic Acid - maintains sex organ health. Selenium - increases male potency and sex drive.
What We Eat Can Greatly Affect Our Sex Lives – Think About This!
Have you ever noticed that when you or your spouse are tired you are rarely in the mood for sex. This seems to be especially true of women. When they are tired the answer is almost always NO! And these days with many women having to work outside the home plus juggle family activities and housework it is no wonder by the time bed rolls around she is ready to roll over and go to sleep.
Yet have you ever noticed when both spouses are full of energy it almost always leads to sex and the more energized the better the sex.
Knowing this there are things you can do everyday to provide your body and brain more energy for things you enjoy doing - like having sex. Often his buddies may make fun of the guy who helps his wife with the housework, but I bet he's getting more then these other guys.
Aphrodisiacs and Love Foods
Consider the awesome power of the mind. Have you heard of placebos, I know you have. The work often times because people believe they will. Some aphrodisiacs work simply because you believe they will. Your brain is in effect your greatest sex organ. If the brain thinks some food turns you into a sex machine, it will. So if you believe buffalo chips will fire up your sex drive, chances are they will.
Oysters are a well-known aphrodisiac. Oysters are packed with zinc, so if you are zinc deficient, oysters may help you feel sexy.
Serotonin is a chemical the brain produces that can boost your sexual desire. Stress lowers the levels of serotonin. Some studies have shown low levels of serotonin are linked to poor ejaculation and low sperm count. A combination of foods containing the amino acid tryptophan and certain carbohydrates can reduce stress and increase levels of serotonin. For example 4 - 6 ounces of fish, poultry or lean beef with bread or pasta.
Androsterone, a potent male hormone, is thought to attract females, and is found in celery. Researchers speculate that when you eat celery, you can release the androsterone through perspiration after digestion. Women can't typically smell this, but some things are sensed subconsciously and women can be attracted to this.
Also the smell of pumpkin pie can increase blood flow to the penis according to a study.
With all this focus on foods and nutrition remember that the most important attribute is to pay attention to your partner. This can be the most powerful tool for putting your partner in the mood for great sex.

Can Water Really Help You Lose Weight?

Can Water Really Help You Lose Weight?
 by: Cassandra Germsheid

Yes, it can!
I believe that water not only helps with weight loss, but is also one of the most important things to keep in mind when trying to lose weight. Here are just some of the reasons why everyone should be drinking at least eight glasses of water day. Naturally suppresses appetite Increases metabolism Reduces stored fat deposits Improves kidney function Decreases fluid retention Helps muscles maintain their tone Aids in the prevention of sagging skin after weight loss Rids the body of excess waste Regulates bowel movements It's Free!
Aren't these enough reasons for you to start drinking your full daily intake of water?
I started drinking 9 glasses a day, and I noticed a difference over night!! I lost five pounds in the course of one day, and it's stayed off. The key is to keep drinking water, or you will see the weight come back. For every 25 pounds you want to lose, drink an extra glass of water.
Now, even though we have most of a day to suck back all that water, it is actually more difficult that you might think. So here are some tips to help you make sure you get your daily intake: Make an appointment with your glass of water. Schedule certain times of the day to chug back 8 ounces at once. After you wake up in the morning, on your way to work, during a commercial, etc. Have a water race with a friend or family member. The extra competition will help motivate you. I bought a big 1.5L bottle and made sure I drank all of it before the end of the day. If I didn't, I told my co-workers that they had permission to dump whatever was left on my head. Before drinking that coffee or pop, force yourself to get another glass of water down. You will probably not even want anything else after that. When you go to the bathroom (and you will be going frequently at first), refuel yourself with another glass before going back to whatever it was that you were doing. Measure how much water you need in a bottle or measuring cup, then you can see your goal for the day. I played a game with myself while I was doing a puzzle. Every time I fit a piece into the puzzle, I would have to take a drink. It seems pretty silly, but it worked. I do puzzles pretty fast, so I downed almost 2 glasses in less than a half hour.
Use these ideas, or come up with your own tricks to help you reach your goal. You will notice a difference right away. I know I did. I felt better, I could see my stomach shrinking, and I found myself snacking less. It really works!

Mediterranean Diet Information

Mediterranean Diet Information
 by: Anita Cherry

Mediterranean diet is basically the dietary traditions followed by the people of Greece, Spain and southern Italy who live around the Mediterranean Sea. It has been studied by an American Dr Ancel Keys when he landed in Greece in 1945. He discovered that the people of Greece and Spain had longer life expectancy and didn't have any major health problem.
Their diet mainly consists of lots of food from plant sources freshly eaten, minimally processed, locally grown, and seasonal and very little food from animal sources
Foods mainly are fresh fruits, vegetables, sea fresh fish, herbs, bread, grains, nuts and seeds, non refined oils like olive oil which is 25% to 35% of fat consumed and low consumption of saturated fats, moderate consumption of cheese and yoghurt, honey and fresh fruits for desserts, lots of fresh fish and non refined cereals. Vegetables consumed should be at least 1 pound, and red meat consumed sparingly only. Lots of physical activity and consumption of wine if taken should only be 1 glass for women and 2 glasses for men daily with meals.
Fruits are mainly grapes, raisins olives, avocado, strawberries, raspberries, currant, blue berries grapes, black olives, orange, apple, pear, figs, pomegranates, dates, passion fruits, cherry, apricot, grapefruit, peach, prunes, quince, bergamot and plums.

Grains are mainly pasta, couscous, rice, polenta and bulgur.
Legumes are carob, peas, beans, lima beans. Chickpea and lentils,
Herbs and spices used are Anise, basil, bay leaves, borage, bay leaves, peppercorns, garlic, chilies, chamomile, chervil, chives, dill, fennel, lavender, marjoram, mint, nutmeg, oregano, parsley, sesame seeds, rosemary, sage, savory, sorrel, tarragon, and thyme, vanilla. Bad Breath - Is It Destroying Your Confidence?

Bad Breath - Is It Destroying Your Confidence?
 by: Marc Lindsay

Whilst this may sound like a weird heading to be linking confidence and bad breath together many sufferers of breath problems will know exactly what I mean.
How often have you turned your head slightly when talking to someone to avoid breathing on them? Or had someone comment on how bad your breath smells. It is like being slapped in the face. No body likes it including me. But there is a way to control it or even stop it all together.
In the following page you will find out exactly how I overcome bad breath and some of the finer details about breath related problems.
What causes Bad Breath?
In most cases bad breath (halitosis) is caused by or related to oral bacteria. The wastes of oral bacteria are actually sulfur compounds and it is usually these compounds that will be the cause of your bad breath.
The build up of plaque can also largely contribute to the production of oral bacteria. It only takes a layer of .1 to .2 of a millimeter of plaque to provide an environment in which this bacteria can flourish.
What about foods, can they be a cause?
Absolutely, eating foods and drinks such as garlic, onions, cheese, orange juice, soda, meat product, dairy products and high protein foods.
Also when food becomes lodged between your teeth and around the gums it lends a very big part in the production of oral bacteria.
How do I treat bad breath.
In almost all cases bad breath is caused by a problem of some sort in the mouth. In which case it stands to reason that a visit to the dentist can help determine what is wrong. In the case that you may need dental treatment this may be the cause of your problems.
However if no oral cause can be found then it is possible that a trip to a clinic or practice that specializes in bad breath is required.
Bad Breath - What you can do to prevent it.
That being said I suffered a rude awakening when my girlfriend started commenting on my breath problems (being a dental nurse I respect her opinion in this regard). So I consulted my dentist.
I was told to floss regularly, shown how to brush properly and also suggested I use closys II as a mouth wash.
I have not had bad breath since I have started using Closys II and in my opinion is the best mouthwash out. To read more about Closys II go to http://www.toothwhiteningaustralia.com.au/bad-breath-treatment.php
Here are the steps outlined below that you can use to prevent bad breath Brush regularly twice a day if possible. Ensure that you floss each day. Make sure you drink enough water (This can help flush your mouth of unwanted food particles) Use a mouthwash after brushing. For best effect do this at night time.
I have followed these simple steps and no longer worry about bad breath. Neither will you if you put some of the points in this article to good use.

The Key To Losing Weight And Keeping It Off

The Key To Losing Weight And Keeping It Off
 by: Arina Nikitina

Do you want to lose weight? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this. Let me ask you another question. For how long do you want to lose weight?
Just for the summer to look good in bikini? Or before winter Holidays to make some room for the turkey and mashed potatoes?
If you want to do that go ahead and pick one of the fad diets. Starve yourself for a week or two and then, after a moment of glory is over and you have been admired in a new dress, go ahead and turn back into a pumpkin. Because that's exactly the shape your body will gradually take if you decide to make your life a series of multiple diets.
Now if your goal is to discover your true beauty hidden underneath those multiple layers of fat, to look good, and to feel great, you will have to make permanent changes in your life.
It sounds hard, but it's actually much easier than sitting on those horrible diets constantly fighting your urges and refusing yourself little sweets you like so much.
I know it, because I've been there myself. The worst thing was that I used to work part time as a cashier at the bakery. You couldn't imagine how miserable my life was at that moment. Every time I would decide to sit on another fad diet, bakers would "accidentally" put extra cherry filling into those cherry strudels. And no matter what time I would show up for my shift I would always have to witness them getting fresh baked cookies out of the oven.
Sometimes it seemed like everyone was doing it on purpose, just to brake me and destroy that little willpower I had left. Now I realize that it was my fault for wanting fast results, but not wanting to follow through.
The key to losing weight and keeping it off is the right lifestyle.
It is about finding the right balance between the food that is both delicious and full of vitamins, and exercise that's fun and energizing. Sounds good, doesn't it? And the best thing is that by making small changes on a daily basis, you'll not only look great, you will also make your tummy very happy and your family proud.
If you're serious about loosing weight you have to commit to the new healthy lifestyle.
No one week diets.
No "do-nothing-and-lose-30-pounds-in-a-week" pills.
No magic pants that mysteriously melt fat away.
No quick fix solutions.
The ONLY thing that works is lifestyle change. Not for another two weeks, but for the rest of your life! For as long as you want to stay slim and healthy.
When lifestyle is healthy then weight normalization becomes one of many positive effects that occur over time.
Changing your lifestyle doesn't have to be difficult. All you have to do is to follow 4 simple steps:
First step - to get motivated. (Yes, without motivation and burning desire you won't go further than one week of healthy lifestyle. So the first thing we need to do is to get fired up!)
Second step - change your diet. (No, you don't have to starve to death and count calories or carbs. Just follow basic principles of healthy eating.)
Third step - start exercising. (Don't get out of tune, exercising the right way is actually fun!)
Fourth step - stay on track. (The most difficult part of loosing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is to stay on track and don't quit.)
If you really want to get rid of all extra pounds here's a little task for you. Take a piece of paper and write down all the reasons why you want to lose weight. The more the better. Try to come up with at least 15 reasons why.
Don't put it off. Take the first step to your beautiful and healthy body!

The Integrity Diet.how To Lose The Dead Weight In Your Life

The Integrity Diet—how To Lose The Dead Weight In Your Life
 by: Jim Jenkins

Everywhere I turn, people are on some kind of a diet. Whether it's Atkins or South Beach, people are obsessed with the right mix in their food choices to reach their ultimate weight. Of course, the most popular diets involve carbohydrates and proteins. The idea behind these diets is that foods are divided more or less into three categories:
Proteins—Chicken breasts and salmon (all good)
Good Carbs—Whole grains and leafy vegetables (necessary, but in moderation)
Bad Carbs—Breads, pizza crusts, and pastas (avoid these unless you want to stay overweight).
It's a structure that also applies pretty well to the people that surround us.
People Proteins
We all know our proteins. These are the people who bring out the best in us and give us energy and support, reinforce our drive to achieve, and help us grow personally and professionally. These can include our mentors, our most unconditionally supportive or inspirational friends, our spouses and partners, and our children.
Good Carb People
The good carbs may be the trickiest to identify. These can be friends and associates who are generally good influences, and provide useful help, but may be best experienced in small doses. Maybe these are loyal colleagues who provide useful support at work but maybe they lack the same drive we do. Or they can be good friends who care about us and are always there to lend an ear or can always be counted on the make us laugh, but may have a few bad habits we don't want to rub off on us.
You can't and shouldn't get rid of good carbs, since they do provide some value in your life, but you have to be careful not to spend too much time with them or rely on them too heavily.
Bad Carb People
Of course, you can easily recognize the bad carbs in your life. These are the toxic people who waste our time, drain our energy, dampen our self-esteem or try to influence us in the wrong direction.
These are the "friends" who envy everything we achieve and posses, and try to undermine us, usually just at the moments when we are feeling good about what is going on in our lives. Have you ever heard a "friend" downplay a promotion ("Well, you must not have had much competition") or try to make us insecure about our appearance ("So, you wore that to the interview and they still gave you the job?") Too often, the underminers in our lives are old friends who we have tolerated out of a misplaced—and unreciprocated—sense of loyalty. And sadly, sometimes they are family members. If you want to investigate this further, check out the new book The The Underminer: The Best Friend Who Casually Destroys Your Life by Mike Albo and Virginia Heffernan.
Other "bad carbs" include toxic co-workers. You know these people, the ones who never have a kind word to say about anyone, especially if they are in management, and spend more time complaining about work that actually working. These are the people leaning against your office door, looking to waste time and gossip when you want to hit an important deadline. These are the peers who only call you when they have a problem, and take up long lunches talking only of themselves and their woes. These are the unhappy, self-absorbed, tiresome people that we always wonder why we tolerate. When was the last time one of your bad carb friends asked about you and actually listened to the answer?
How to Lose Dead Weight—The Integrity Diet
If you can go on a low-carb diet to lose weight, why not do the same with the people you surround yourself with? Go on an "integrity diet" and rid yourself of the bad carbs in your life. It isn't easy to give up pizza, pasta and doughnuts. And it isn't easy to look a longtime "friend" in the eye and say you do not want them to be a part of your life any longer. But the best part is, while you might miss pizza, you will never miss a "toxic" friend.
To get you started on your Integrity Diet, try the following:
Make a list of the important people in your lives.
Divide them into proteins, good and bad carbs.
Make an effort to strengthen your relationship with the proteins—the people who inspire you, energize you and make you happy.
Enjoy the good carbs in moderation.
Minimize your time with the bad carbs.
Remember to pay special attention to the bad carbs. Eliminating them will not be easy or pleasant, but the positive results in your emotional and professional lives will appear as fast as the pounds shed when you say goodbye to white bread, French fries and cupcakes.
You can eat all the protein in the world, but if you keep taking in the bad carbs, you won't get the results you ultimately want.
And be sure to let us know how much "dead weight" you lose in the next thirty days!

Backache - Cause, Cure & Natural Remedies

Backache - Cause, Cure & Natural Remedies
 by: M.Leonard Alexander

The modern world that's before us, offers us the access to anything
That we would like to, hence we no longer need to walk long distances, nor do we need to spend the same amount of energy that our parents or grand parents would have spent to do a job, for motors and machines have occupied the position and have replaced manual work…
This site is dedicated to some of the common ailments that have started affecting the MANKIND just because of these developments that has happened to the human race…
The first ailment, which I have preferred to discuss, is about BACKACHE. Days are gone when only people above 40 used to have the chances of getting BACKACHE, Now No matter you are young or old, BACKACHE can attack you, that to when you expect it the least…it comes to you without any warning. so Beware…a small act like bending and taking your dropped possession can cause backache. The reason I chose BACKACHE, as the first topic for discussion is that, BACKACHE is the chief reasons for absence from work. Several million man-hours are lost due to BACKACHE.
The reason for this is the sedentary life style that the human race has started to adopt. (Modern developments)
To look at the clinical reasons, as we get older the changes that occur in the spine too can cause BACKACHE.
We get a little shorter, from bone shrinkage, there is a lot of thinning of the discs and spine develops arthritic spurs.

Tips To Avoid Straining Your Back

Tips To Avoid Straining Your Back
 by: M.Leonard Alexander

Most backaches caused by strained muscles and ligaments can be treated with self-care. Other causes need a medical evaluation and treatment specific to the problem.
Here are some lifting "dos and don'ts" to help you avoid straining your back.
Do's
High Heeled shoes are one of the most common reasons for backache. Hence wear good shoes with low heels, not sandals or high heels.
If you need to lift an object, stand close to the thing you want to lift.
Always Stand Straight and Plant your feet squarely, shoulder width apart.
Bend at the knees, not at the waist. Keep your knees bent as you lift.
Pull in your stomach and rear end. Keep your back as straight as you can.
Hold the object close to your body.
Lift slowly. Let your legs carry the weight.
Don'ts
Don't lift if your back hurts.
Don't lift if you have a history of back trouble.
Don't lift something that's too heavy.
Don't lift heavy things over your head.
Don't lift anything heavy if you're not steady on your feet.
Don't bend at the waist to pick something up.
Don't arch your back when you lift or carry.
Don't lift too fast or with a jerk.
Don't twist your back when you are holding something. Turn your whole body, from head to toe.
Don't lift something heavy with one hand and something light with the other. Balance the load.
Don't try to lift one thing while you hold something else.

Simple Treatments For Backache

Simple Treatments For Backache
 by: M.Leonard Alexander

Cold Treatment
Cold packs helps with bruises and swelling. For the first 48 hours after back symptoms start, apply a cold pack (or bag of ice) to the painful area. Lie on your back with your knees bent, and put the cold pack under your lower back. Do this for 5-10 minutes at a time, several times a day.
Heat Treatment
Heat increases blood flow, which helps in healing. However, do not use heat on a back strain until 48 or more hours after back symptoms start. Use cold treatment first (see "Cold Treatment" above). If used sooner, heat can make the pain and swelling worse. Use a moist heating pad, a hot-water bottle, hot compresses, a hot tub, hot baths, or hot showers. Use heat for 10 minutes at a time. Do this several times a day. Be careful not to burn yourself.
Braces or Corsets
Braces and corsets support your back and keep you from moving it too much. They do what strong back muscles do, but they won't make your back stronger.
Spinal Manipulation**
This treatment, done by a professional such as chiropractor or physical therapist, uses the hands to apply force to "adjust" the spine. This can be helpful for some people in the first month of low back symptoms.
Check with your doctor about spinal manipulations.

What triggers/Causes BACKACHE?

What triggers/Causes BACKACHE?
 by: M.Leonard Alexander

Poor Posture
Lack of exercise
Standing or bending down for long periods
Sitting in a chair that does not provide enough back support
Sleeping on a mattress that does not provide enough back support
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy loads, or going about these.
A fall.
The most important cause of backache is obesity. Carrying excess weight puts a strain on the back, on both the bones and the soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, and joint tissues). The excess weight in front of the spine, on the abdomen and chest, leads to pulling the body forward, causing the back muscles to be under a strain to hold the body erect. A weakening of these structures by fat that grows into the tiny spaces around blood vessels and along the borders between muscles and around joints causes these soft tissues to be less able to protect themselves from minor injury.
Overeating is another major cause of backache. In a thin person, even eating a large meal too can result in overbalancing the body in the forward position from the extra weight of the food and digestive juices. The reflexive effort to hold the shoulders and ribs off the overloaded intestinal tract adds to the strain on the back.
A slipped or ruptured disc causes rather severe back pain, often with radiation down the thigh and leg, sometimes with "hot spots" somewhere along the course of the pain. Diseased discs come on over a period of years, caused by excessive strain on the joints of the back, such as by poor posture, occupational stresses or competitive sports. It is rarely a sudden event in a person having no previous symptoms.
Maintaining one position for a long period of time, such as in typing or bending over at work may cause chronic back strain. Learn to sit and bend without strain.
Weakness of muscles from lack of exercise is another important cause of backache. Vigorous outdoor exercise that brings into use all the powers and movements of the back can gradually correct certain chronic backaches. Be certain to start an exercise slowly, as exercise of weak muscles can cause a flare-up of pain.
Spondylolisthesis is a slipping forward of one vertebra over its neighbor with erosion of a part of one vertebra. Sitting on the floor with the legs straight out in front can cause this type of backache. Low-seated bucket seats give a similar position.
A transitional vertebra is a birth defect in which one vertebrae in the low back does double duty, both as a part of the spine above, and as a part of the pelvis below. The resulting overwork leads to pain. Back-strengthening exercises can help this type of pain.
Psychological factors are, in some people, a very potent cause of backache. Take away the unhappiness or prescribe long walks in nature to neutralize tension or mental anguish and the backache is sure to disappear.
Constitutional factors cause backache, such as constipation, hypoglycemia, pregnancy, menstruation, and pelvic tumors in both men and women.

Implant Dentistry . The Convenient and Safe Alternative to Dentures

Implant Dentistry – The Convenient and Safe Alternative to Dentures
 by: Mike Mahon

If you are missing a tooth or a group of teeth, you may find that you are afraid to smile, you don't like to speak because you think you sound funny, or you may not be able to eat certain foods that you enjoy. Until recently, your only option was to replace these missing teeth with dentures. Patients often complained that dentures were uncomfortable and inconvenient. Dental implants (http://www.kodish.com/implants.htm) are a safe, easy, and convenient solution.
Dental implants (http://www.kodish.com/implants.htm) remove the embarrassment, irritation and self-consciousness often associated with dentures and older methods of tooth replacement. Dental implants are permanent. Unlike dentures and other removable alternatives, dental implants can be maintained exactly the same as your natural teeth. Flossing, brushing, and regular checkups with your dentist are all that's needed to care for your dental implants.
Florida implant dentist Dr. Gary Kodish (http://www.kodish.com) comments, "Dental implants have been hugely successful in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. My patients are continuously overjoyed by their new smiles. Their only regret is that they didn't perform the procedure sooner."
Dental implants (http://www.kodish.com/implants.htm) are artificial tooth roots that are anchored into or on top of your jawbone. Dental implants are a safe, effective way to replace a single missing tooth, two or more teeth, and even entire rows of teeth. Although each case is different, the total time for an implant dentistry procedure can be up to eighteen months. This includes the initial evaluation through your final "teeth" being implanted.
Dental implants are the best replacement for natural teeth. Implant dentistry can improve your appearance and self-confidence at any age. Dental implants are available to anyone missing all or some of their teeth, including children, adults, and the elderly.

Does Your Body Know Its ABC's??

Does Your Body Know Its ABC's??
 by: Lori Wilton

What are Glyconutritionals?
The Greek word "Glyco" means "Sugar". Most people think of sugar as being bad for you. However, there are actually TWO kinds of sugars. One is the refined or "extracellular" sugars which have been long associated with human disease. The other sugars are "intracellular" which can be found in fruits and vegetables and provide the body with nutrition it needs. These sugars, also known as "complex carbohydrates", have been studied for years. However, only recently have we begun discovering their purpose in the body.
An increasing number of scientists believe that certain carbohydrates represent the next frontier in the search for non-toxic treatments for various degenerative conditions. Even though we have just begun to scratch the surface in understanding the full potential of these carbohydrates, the research being reported in just the last decade has ignited a new level of hope and optimism with some of the world's leading immunologists. The March 23, 2001 issue of Science Magazine is devoted to the topic of cellular communication and the role that simple sugars play in that arena.
Healthy bodies are comprised of many components working together in sophisticated harmony, and must have accurate internal communication to function correctly. In it's most basic form, this communication occurs at the cellular level. Glyonutrients form what can be referred to as the "alphabet" of your body!
To maintain a healthy body, cells must "talk" to each other. Their language is one of touch, written in saccharides (or simple sugars) on the cell surfaces. These simple sugars combine with other molecules to make glycoforms such as glycoproteins when combined with proteins or glycolipids when combined with fat. Of the 200 monosaccharides that occur naturally in plants, 8 have been discovered to be components in the cell surface glycoforms (see Harper's Textbook of Biochemistry--1996). Like thousands of different "keys" projecting from the cell surface, they will either unlock the required functions of the adjoining cell or not. If the right keys are available, the body functions smoothly. If not, it doesn't. Acta Anatomica, a European journal, states that these simple sugars have a coding capacity that surpasses that of amino acids!!
Only two of the eight monosaccharides are found in today's diet. Our diets have changed in response to the demands for quicker, cheaper food. Consequently, we are not eating foods that contain the necessary fuels for our cells to communicate in a healthy, effective manner. While our body has the capacity to manufacture these simple sugars, the conversion process is complicated. During the conversion process your cells are exposed to tens of thousands of free radical hits each day. This requires time, energy and a host of other micronutrients in order to complete the conversion. Viruses can also interfere with our body's ability to make these conversions. People who are ill or who have inborn errors of metabolism are especially vulnerable to a breakdown in the process. Whenever the monosaccharides cannot be made, communication is slowed down or impaired as a result.
Since your body has more than trillion cells and fully regenerates all of its cells in approximately 1 year, any miscommunication or slowdown could cause major health problems. With millions of cells regenerating each day, it's easy to imagine what could happen if during this process, the cells didn't regenerate correctly. This is why glyconutritional supplements are so very important!
So what are the experts saying about these powerful compounds? Check out some compelling evidence that the scientific and medical world are jumping on board by leaps and bounds:
February, 1990
Magazine, Bio/Technology
"Capitalizing on Carbohydrates"
Carbohydrates are identified as essential for immune function. "Almost without exception, whenever two or more living cells interact in a specific way, cell surface carbohydrates will be involved."
1995
Magazine, Nature
Cell surface sugars are necessary for recognition and immune function.
1996
Medical Textbook, Harper's Biochemistry
Vol. 24, Murray, et. al.
Glycoprotein chapter reviews the sugars necessary for cell-to-cell communication.
March, 2000
Launching of glycoscience.org, the first Web site devoted to the nutritional importance of certain saccharides called glyconutrients.
October, 2001
National Institutes of Health grants $34 million grant to Scripps Institute to study glycobiology
2002
GlycoScience.org receives a merit World Wide Web health Award for credibility, clarity and appropriateness
October 2002
Magazine, New Scientist
"Sugar Rush"
Emphasizes glycobiology as the basis of understanding immunology, neurology and developmental biology.
February, 2003
MIT's Technology Review
Glycomics identified as "One of 10 Emerging Technologies That Will Change the World."
2003
GlycoScience.org receives two Silver World Wide Web Health awards for credibility, clarity and appropriateness.
December 2003
Nutritional company that pioneered research in field of glycobiology, presents GlycoScience.org Web site and 8th Annual World Congress on the internet in medicine (MedNet) International Conference, "Internet in Health for All."
2004
18,032 Medline articles with keyword "glycoprotein" published.
So the obvious question becomes, "what can all this science do for me?" Well, no one can claim a cure for anything, but imagine what would happen in your body and consequently your health when your cells are given the proper building blocks to restore and maintain wellness in every system of your body? This is solid science with solid proof in hundreds of thousands of people. The next question is, "what will YOU do with this powerful information?

Shea Butter ~ Africa's Golden Gift

Shea Butter ~ Africa's Golden Gift
 by: Lisa Maliga

From department stores to discount and drug stores, shea butter lotions, creams, lip balms, soap, conditioners and moisturizers are becoming more familiar to us. On television, a commercial announcer boasts of a brand name moisturizer containing shea butter, when the fact is that the butyrspermum parkii, the Latin name for this ingredient, is listed near the end of a long list of fillers, petroleum castoffs, and preservatives.
What Is Shea Butter?
With its growing reputation we are enticed to try this "new" and wonderful sounding 'butter' which is not a dairy product. Technically, shea butter is a nut fat, as it is derived from the crushed nuts of the karite tree that grows wild in the African savannah, an area that comprises more than a dozen countries and is approximately the size of America. To a person from Ghana or Burkina Faso, two of the largest exporting countries of shea butter, they are quite accustomed to the benefits of shea butter. They massage it on their skin and hair; they cook with it, and it's known to help people of all ages with accelerating the healing of minor cuts, burns, and scrapes. Those who try natural shea butter are amazed to discover that applying all natural shea butter onto their skin, a thin protective layer forms, that is non-greasy!
Shea [Karite] Trees Grow In The Wild
Shea butter comes from karite trees, which live for hundreds of years and only begin providing fruit by the time they are about 25-30 years of age. Most wild [as opposed to cultivated which is very small scale at this time], karite trees are pollinated by small fruit bats, which help to ensure the continued existence for this 'tree of life' as those whose livelihood depends on these fruitful trees oftentimes refer to it as. The shea nuts aren't picked from the trees as they must first mature and fall from the trees where they are then collected. Women are responsible for the gathering and production of shea nuts and helping cultivate them into valuable shea butter. The process of harvesting the shea fruit is time consuming, but the results are well worth the amount of effort that goes into each batch of natural shea butter. While the ripe green, fleshy fruit is rich in ascorbic acid as well as vitamin B; it's the kernels inside the nut that comprises the shea butter.
Making Shea Butter
The nuts are first sorted and parboiled, and then left to dry in the hot sunshine for up to one week. When the shea nuts are completely dehydrated, they can either be stored for several weeks or months, or they go to the next step of shea butter production.
Crushing the dried nuts, either with a wooden pestle, or, in more sophisticated operations, a special press, causes the nuts and the kernels to be separated. Next, the kernels are roasted in large metal pots and processed through a grinder, which results in a brown colored paste. This paste is processed a second time. The labor-intensive procedure continues with the mixing and kneading of the kernels after some water has been added. While this step of the shea butter making production goes on for several hours, it's a vital step as this is what creates the shea butter itself. It's still unrefined, but many people prefer the natural shea butter to the more refined versions. Also, there are places in Africa that have various types of shea refining machinery, allowing the shea extracting process to remain easier for all parties involved. For instance, the shea butter is filtered by a natural cold process method that strains the shea butter of any debris such as gourd pieces, di!
rt, leaves, etc. Most shea butter that is refined in Africa is usually free of hexane solvents that not only bleach and remove many of the vitamins and minerals, but also can remain in the finished product.
Unrefined Shea Butter
This type of shea butter has a wide range of colors and some differences in textures. Generally, unrefined shea butter is that which has been filtered [hopefully] and possibly refined at least once in the most natural cold process method. Beige, light or dark green, gray or dark tan are the colors that unrefined shea butter can end up. The green colors come from shea nuts that are less mature than the beige colors. Shea colors are also dependent upon the time of year the nuts are harvested and processed, along with the region in which the shea nuts are selected from.
While most unrefined shea butter maintains all the vitamins, especially vitamin A and E, and minerals, it also retains its aroma. The scent of unrefined shea is what discourages a lot of people from trying this healing butter, as it can be a rather earthy combination of smoky and nutty. The aroma, while being somewhat strong, depending upon the shea butter and your sense of smell, does disappear after it has been applied to your skin within a matter of minutes. Unrefined shea butter's texture can vary from smooth and creamy; think commercial smooth peanut butter, to hard, waxy and/or chunky, such as a crunchy peanut butter. Those of you who have never been around shea butter before would be understandably put off if, upon opening a jar, you found a smelly and crunchy looking product! But after an experimental dab or two, you will discover that shea butter does leave your skin looking and certainly feeling smoother and softer than it did pre application.
Refined Shea Butter
Actually there are two categories here: Ultra-Refined and Refined. The first type is usually white to cream colored, has no discernable nutty/smoky scent, and is smooth and creamy. The difficulty with ultra or even refined shea butter, is in knowing whether that product has been commercially refined to remove its minerals and vitamins with a hexane solvent. Also, shea butter can be bleached to make it appear even lighter. One way to determine a shea butter's authenticity is to see if it has been cold-pressed, sometimes called cold-processed or expeller-pressed.
The Refined shea, which ranges in color from white to beige, is sometimes referred to as gently refined, has had some of its vitamin/mineral properties removed in the process of refining, but it does retain a bit of a beige or light tan color and nutty aroma. The texture can be either creamy or chunky.
The ideal shea butter would feel creamy and smooth and be absorbed into your skin quickly. Also, the nutty and/or smoky scent should be lighter. Shea butter can be mixed with fragrances and essential oils to completely change the aroma, making it sweet, spicy, fruity, floral, herbal, etc.
While shea butter is added to a myriad of bath & body products, the best way to sample the delights of this African butter is to buy a small jar and try it for yourself to learn what is so great about shea butter.
Shea Butter's Benefits
Many web sites will sell shea butter in various sizes, containers, prices, and types. They might have some information about shea butter on the site, or you may have to do some online research to discover more about this product. Either way, be informed before purchasing shea butter. If a site tells of wonderful things happening after just one application, other than the fact that it soothes skin, please use your own judgment. Like any "new" product out there, a lot of hype can be attached to it. Shea butter, as you've just read, is a skin soothing nut fat that may be very beneficial and here are some reasons: Shea butter can be used as an all-natural hair conditioner. Shea butter promotes quicker healing of small wounds, burns, cuts and scrapes. Shea butter is an efficient natural makeup remover. Shea butter is safe to use on babies, children and adults. Shea butter helps prevent and soothe sunburns. Shea butter is high in vitamins A and E. Shea butter helps moisturize dry skin. Shea butter soothes sore, overworked muscles. Shea butter is recommended for conditioning animal's coats. Shea butter makes an excellent natural lip balm. Shea butter helps restore elasticity of aging skin.
Does shea butter cure serious skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis? There have been some testimonials to that effect, yes. But in actuality, if you were to have a somewhat serious or persistent skin problem, you should consult with a healthcare practitioner or dermatologist. Shea butter is not recommended for people with nut or latex allergies. Or you could find out by trying shea butter. Whenever considering trying a natural remedy, you should be responsible and do your research both on and off-line. The choice to use a "new" product is always up to each individual.

How to Remove the Psychological Addiction to Smoking - and Start to ENJOY Giving

How to Remove the Psychological Addiction to Smoking - and Start to ENJOY Giving
 by: john Ryan

Consider this:
Already since 1972, over 60million people in the USA alone have successfully quit smoking!
At one stage over 60% of the adult population was addicted to this drug. Today it is 28% and dropping........
Now, isn't this a fair thought......
If all these people can do it (60 MILLION OF THEM!) - and they include EVERY TYPE of person imaginable - surely that is PROOF that IT IS POSSIBLE to successfully give up smoking.
Here's another Fact......
We now know from the latest scientific research, that although nicotine is one of the world's fastest acting drugs --- the actual PHYSICAL withdrawal pangs when you give up ARE SO MILD, YOU WILL HARDLY NOTICE THEM WHEN YOU STOP.
YES, you have read that sentence right!
I know you will want to argue with me on this point, but, first, let me first make the following points.......
The Desire to Smoke
Yes, when you stop smoking you will feel the desire AGAIN and AGAIN to smoke.
We all know that feeling -- 'I must have a cigarette'. But that desire in itself is not bad or painful.
It is just a feeling, a sensation we feel in our body.
However........this is where, for most of us our problems start.....
If we start to fear that 'craving' or try to use 'Willpower' to REPRESS it or FORCE it go away, -- "I wish this feeling would go away" we WILL create pain and tension.
This is what as smokers we have all done in the past.
That 'feeling' of wanting to smoke then becomes painful, annoying and terribly irritating.
Now this is the hard part to realize.......
The pain, the horror does not come from the desire to smoke, but from HOW we deal with this desire, moment-by-moment WHEN we stop.
Can I emphasize this:
You do not have to experience ANY pain or agony when you stop. Yes, when you stop you WILL experience a ...........
Temporary feeling of loss
A feeling that you are being deprived of something
A feeling of emptiness
A feeling that you will never be able to enjoy yourself again.
A feeling that you must have a cigarette
These feelings, although very real in themselves are not inherently bad or painful. What is important is how you deal with these feelings when you stop.
The key part of giving up smoking naturally is learning how to deal with these cravings when you stop.
Conflict
Right now, you don't want to give up smoking because you are TERRIFIED of how you will FEEL when you can't smoke.
Let's be honest.
You smoke now because you enjoy it.
Or -- to be more accurate: You smoke now because you have conditioned yourself to enjoy it.
It is important that we are honest with ourselves here.
In fact, even the 'THOUGHT', the mere 'thought' of not been able to smoke probably fills you with utter dread now.
But there is another undeniable fact: This 'pleasure' is killing you.
Again we must be brutally honest here. Everyday, you are systemically destroying your health.
This is the conflict all smokers face.
On the one hand, smoking is killing you and you desperately want to stop.....
..And yet on the other hand, you don't really want to stop because you believe you really enjoy it.
Yet, one other truth cannot be denied and this applies to every smoker........
We are terrified of how we will F-E-E-L when we can't smoke. We are convinced it will be unbearable and impossible.
FEAR
Right now, the ONLY thing -- yes, THE ONLY THING stopping you from giving up smoking is this fear of how YOU WILL FEEL WHEN YOU STOP.
And yet this very fear is the actual key to giving up smoking naturally.
Giving up smoking is really all about learning HOW to deal with the cravings and feelings you WILL get when you stop.
When you learn how to do that - you will realize that there is nothing to fear when you give up.
What is there to fear ?
When you get the craving to smoke, which you will, again and again - - you will now take the OPPORTUNITY to 'change' or 'transform' that craving so that it is actually enjoyable or at least tolerable to experience.
Imagine......
You have decided to give up smoking. It's dinnertime.
You have finished a day's work.....
You finish your meal and ..... subconsciously, you reach for a cigarette.
But then, of course you remember you no longer smoke.
Bang! At that moment, certain gut feelings will arise.
Feelings of regret........a feeling that you are missing out on something important and then maybe..... terrible feelings of emptiness.....
We all know how it feels.
But the real question is: How will you deal with this feeling -- this craving to smoke?
Will you just suffer it, try to repress it and hope that it will go away?
That is one option. The old willpower method.
Or will you give in to the feeling -- and start to smoke again (promising to start again tomorrow)?
Or will you - - for the first time ever: - - follow our instructions and actually ALLOW yourself to transform the feeling/craving so that it is actually enjoyable or at least pleasant or tolerable enough to experience.
You see, when you can do that, you will no longer be AFRAID of these cravings when you stop smoking.
In fact, you will start to WELCOME them because they will give you another opportunity to RESPOND and DEAL with them in this NEW WAY.
This process is the essence of giving up smoking naturally and finding it a pleasant and life-affirming experience.
Weight-loss?
Are you now beginning to see how these principles can also apply to losing weight.
You see a beautiful cake. You want to eat it....when BANG! -- You remember you are on a diet.
Now watch HOW YOU feel when this happens?
Couldn't we describe it as ....
'Feelings of regret........a feeling that you are missing out on something important and then maybe..... terrible feelings of emptiness.....
Isn't it essentially the same feeling as not being able to smoke?
However, the real question is the same with smoking: How will you DEAL with this feeling -- this craving to eat?
Will you GIVE IN to it -- and eat the cake or will you try and FORCE yourself not to eat it- and be miserable?
Why not consider our alternative?
Accept this feeling, this desire to eat. But, instead of giving in to it, learn how to deal and respond to it in a NEW way so that you don't MIND experiencing it?
Transform the craving so that it is actually enjoyable or very pleasant to experience.
The Joy of Giving up Smoking?
Remember, when you stop - yes, you WILL feel something but there will be no physical agony, only a temporary feeling that you are MISSING OUT on something.
A feeling that you are being deprived of something SPECIAL --- but these feelings will ONLY be temporary.
However, to quit smoking successfully and to start to enjoy doing it we must go deeper than these temporary cravings.
We must realize that :
You find it difficult or impossible to stop smoking now because......... you BELIEVE ABSOLUTELY that you NEED to smoke and even deeper, you BELIEVE that if you give up smoking now, your life will never be as ENJOYABLE again.
In one sentence: You believe your life will be intolerable.
It is these beliefs that makes giving up smoking difficult NOT Nicotine addiction.
Right now, you are not only physically addicted to smoking but you are psychologically dependent or addicted to smoking.
If your addiction were purely physical wouldn't all these nicotine patches have a 100% success record ?
Yet, we all know that even if we use a nicotine substitute, we will still continue to feel a terrible desire to smoke.
Again and again, we'll feel we must have a cigarette. At times, it will even get to the stage where we just don't care - even the most dire health warnings will have no affect on us - we just WANT to smoke.
Where does this desire come from ?
It comes from our conditioning, our beliefs about smoking.
This moment, we believe that smoking is an essential pleasure.
In fact, most of us have a terrible resistance to EVEN thinking about giving up smoking.
Why ?
Because we believe that in order to do anything about our addiction, i.e. give up smoking -- we would have to end our pleasure and ending pleasure is something we have NO DESIRE to do.
YOUR REAL JOB
Your real job in giving up smoking lies in REALLY UNDERSTANDING that you don't NEED to smoke.
You remove the psychological addiction to smoking.
You will never be truly free until you realize that smoking is not a real pleasure and that when you stop, you WILL NOT BE depriving ourselves of a real pleasure....... ......and then you will not only be able to give up smoking for good but you will enjoy doing it!

Laughter and your health

Laughter and your health
 by: John Ryan

Jokes and humor for your health
When thinking about alternative medicine, most people picture plants, crystals, needles, maybe some bugs and leeches, but few realize that jokes, humor and comedy are truly medicines, in their own right. It has long been established that optimists live longer than pessimists, but now there is some hard evidence that people with a better sense of humor also have longer and healthier lives. Your "stay healthy" plan should include a joke and a 20-minute comedy show, to go with the broccoli and carrots.
There are now various associations and physicians specialized in the so-called therapeutic humor, who are still investigating the roles of laughter in our lives. Perhaps the most obvious of these roles is that related to the social life - jokes often allow people to connect and to bond, and sharing a good laughter is a good method to integrate in a team, to get along with the coworkers, neighbors and so on. This function is vital from the point of view of mental health, since it reduces loneliness and, with it, depression and other problems associated with it. You don't have to be trained in stand-up comedy in order to say something funny, sometimes all you need is a change of perspective or the courage to make fun at your own expense.
Humor is an invaluable asset in crisis situations, when it helps us calm down and reduce the levels of stress (and all the negative effects stress has on health). It is often considered that, among patients with very severe diseases, those with an upbeat approach, who are capable of making jokes about their situations, have the best chances to defeat the illness. So far, there have been no scientific studies to prove this, but the patients themselves report feeling better after joining an activity with humorous potential, even if it's just watching a comedy show together with some friends or with other patients.
Recent researches suggest that laughter influences more than our mental framework, it actually has a positive effect on the physical aspect as well. It has been widely accepted, for some time, that laughter increases the pain resistance level, but the theory is still not proven. In fact, very few studies have yet been made about the relation between comedy and health, but those existing seem to indicate that a good joke may lower the blood pressure, improve memory and cognitive functions and boost the immune system. Moreover, these results are not short-term only: it seems that a good sense of humor may protect you against heart diseases and alter your biochemical state to a level where the organism produces more antibodies. The lack of research in the field is due to the fact that people have always assumed that laughter is good for your health (along with an apple a day and a breath of fresh air), but little has been done to analyze this in depth.
There is also a "bad" humor (same as there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol). This category includes the approach that makes people feel miserable about themselves, or angry, upset and vengeful, as well as the skeptic and cynic attitude, which is often the front for deep depression and indifference. Jokes directed at other people are also "bad" humor, along with ethnic, racial and sexist jokes, which are born out of frustration, not out of optimism and cheerfulness. Also, people who often make fun of themselves hide a low self esteem, which is only worsened with every funny joke they invent (there is a good reason why clowns and successful comedy actors are often perceived as sad and depressed in their real lives).
If you decide to use laughter as a therapeutic method, the first obvious issue is that there are no harmful side effects, and you've got nothing to lose. The second issue is that you can actually improve your sense of humor in time, same as any other skill or ability, by constant training and exposure to jokes and comedy. Next time you go to the movies, buy a ticket for a comedy, no matter how dumb the poster looks. When you read the paper, don't forget to check out their daily cartoon too. Spend ten minutes every day reading jokes, and, when you find some you like, share them with your friends. (And when your boss catches you reading jokes instead of working, tell him it's just therapy, he can't stop your from taking your medication at work, right?) Last but not least, try to find the funny side of the small things that happen every day around you - there is always something absurd or plain stupid going on right near you, which may provide five minutes of good laugher, which, in turn, may unblock some arteries and keep the heart attack far away.

The Williams Broomstick Diet

The Williams Broomstick Diet
 by: Ed Williams

I'm sure the dieting industry in the United States has to be a multi-billion dollar one. Pick up any newspaper or magazine out there and they will invariably have articles in them about diets. There's tons of diets available to choose from, some are hugely popular, and, because of that, even more diets seem to be springing forward. Since we Americans seem to be having a national problem with obesity, this is to be expected, I suppose. As a result of all this interest in dieting, restaurants have started taking notice, and more and more of them are offering low calorie or low carb dishes on their menus.
For me, personally, I don't get in a big uproar regarding diets. The way I see it, they come and they go, and each of them involves me having to give up something that I don't want to. If I go with a low carb diet I can't eat ice cream or Reese's Peanut Butter cups, in fact, if I go with just about any diet I can't eat ice cream or Reese's Peanut Butter cups. For that reason alone, diets bite, and that's putting it mildly. In the end they're just programs that are designed to take away the very things you love to eat, and then replace them with stuff that you don't. So, I guess if I really want to go on a diet that's guaranteed to make me lose weight then I would have to go on one that allows me to eat only the following:
Beets - These purple, vein laden monstrosities make eating a hand full of dirt seem tasty. They smell bad, taste worse, and if you get that purple color on your clothes it's really hard to get off. I would rather kiss a rat right on its heiny than eat a beet, and heiny kissing a rat is something that I never intend to do.
Original recipe fried chicken from a fast food place that we all know of - Don't get me wrong, the chicken tastes great but for some reason it makes my stomach swell up like a woman eight months pregnant with triplets. The good taste the chicken has is just not worth the inner agony that I have to deal with afterwards.
Liver - I would rather put on a pink dress and sing a medley of Linda Ronstadt hits as to be forced to eat liver. It looks vile, tastes vile, and I think that my stomach would literally invert itself if it were ever to encounter some. I wouldn't even feed it to my dog, heck, I would rather eat my dog than eat the liver.
Sushi - I have several good friends who are Japanese, and this is certainly not meant as a put down, but seaweed wrapped around some chunks of raw fish is just not my idea of a very tasty meal or snack. I had some one time several years ago and it took two days and a pound bag of M&Ms to get the taste out of my mouth afterwards.
Scrapple - If you don't already know what this is, then for God's sake don't go out and buy some in order to find out. It would be more appealing to spend an hour in close quarters with a bunch of guys who've just eaten some big helpings of baked beans than it would be to eat some Scrapple. It's a meaty, oily substance that yankees like to fry or poach or whatever else they can conjure up to do to it, but however it's prepared it's ghastly. Scrapple should stay right up north along with cold winters and any and all New Jersey politicians.
Altogether these items make up the main components of the "Williams Broomstick Diet," as I would be skinnier than one should I ever actually have to go on it. You know, when I think about dieting and all the problems associated with it, I have to wonder what's so terrible about growing old and fat? Granted, if I ever decide to be a aging, balding blob I'll probably have worse health, and I might even croak from eating all the wrong things, but at least people would understand what had happened to me. However, if staying healthy for the rest of my life means that I have to eat Scrapple, sushi, liver, or beets, well, I think that I'd rather take my chances with being a chubby and jolly old man. After all, being like that hasn't worked out too badly for Santa, now has it?

Diamonds In The Ruff - Finding A Good Personal Trainer

Diamonds In The Ruff - Finding A Good Personal Trainer
 by: Aaron Potts

The question of how to find a good personal trainer is as old as the industry itself. In fact, it usually gets transformed into an even bigger question - should you even HIRE a personal trainer? Conveniently enough, the answer to one of those questions will dictate the answer to the other one - every time!
The short and simple truth of the matter is that you should only hire a personal trainer if you can find an effective one that is right for you. Here are several things to consider before you decide!
Professionalism
The term professionalism should cover our prospective trainer's skills, as well as his/her ability to act in a professional manner. Both are critical to the training process, and if a trainer is lacking in either department, it will spell doom for your program eventually, either in the short term, or later on down the road.
The days of personal trainers just being jocks with a certification are (thankfully!) coming to a close. Today's personal trainer needs to be a consummate professional with regard to his/her actual skills, as well as ability to treat their clients in a professional and business-like manner.
For now let's just agree that if your trainer doesn't have a clue about how to get you in shape, you probably don't want to hire that trainer!
What about their level of professionalism? A good personal trainer will always maintain their professional bearing. They don't need to be some stick in the mud with no personality, but there are several things that a trainer should NOT be doing during a training session. These include things like staring at themselves in the mirror, daydreaming, excessively talking to other people, talking on their cell phone, checking out members of the opposite sex, and just generally not focusing on you during the workout.
Your trainer should look professional as well. Although the actual clothing standards vary widely, some things that you should not see are excessive body jewelry, the latest fashions such as arm bands, beanie caps, combat boots, etc., or any clothing or accessories that are worn simply as decoration or because the style is in. The latest styles have absolutely nothing to do with your training program!
Credentials
Which level of personal training certification is the best has been and continues to be a matter of extreme debate. This article will not propagate that debate with further discussion of the details. However, what you should take home is the fact that regardless of your fitness goals, your trainer should be qualified to train YOU.
For general health and fitness, any of the top 10 nationwide certification agencies offer acceptable programs. A brief list includes - but is not limited to - the International Sports Sciences Association, the American Council on Exercise, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. There are others, and your trainer should be more than happy to point you to the website that governs his or certification, so that you can learn more on your own.
For more specific considerations like training for a sport or athletic competition, your trainer will need a higher degree of expertise. The American College of Sports Medicine has a great program and is one of the most recognized certifications for sport specific training.
You should ask very specific questions about how a potential trainer is going to tackle the particular issues that you want covered during your training program.
Facility
Regardless of your potential trainer's credentials and professionalism, you need to know where you are going to train. The industry standard of only working out at a gym is being challenged more and more these days. It is possible now to find a trainer who will come right to your house and train you, or possibly meet you outside, or in your housing area community fitness center. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you have to go to the gym if you want a personal trainer!
Schedule
One of the biggest issues for trainers and clients alike is scheduling. After all, you both have to be in the same place at the same time for a minimum of 30 minutes, and possibly as long as 90 minutes. A good trainer will try to find a way to fit you into their schedule. It won't always be possible, especially with a highly sought after trainer, but if the trainer truly wants to help you, they will do their best to fit you in.
Rapport
Having a good rapport with your personal trainer is crucial! If you and your trainer don't get along, it's a waste of time for both of you. You will likely end up more frustrated than ever, thinking that even a professional couldn't help you!
Working with a personal trainer that you like is necessary, and on the flip side, the trainer should like you as well. You don't necessarily need to pick out curtains together, but you should at least be able to carry on a comfortable dialogue while you exercise. Most good trainers are good communicators as well, but if the two of you aren't very comfortable with each other, then it will cause tension and increase the risk of your program meeting with failure.
A good personal trainer will agree to meet with you face to face before you actually sign up for a training program. Some trainers offer a free or low-cost initial consultation, and that is the perfect time to size up your trainer to make sure they fit your needs!
You should take home the fact that the definition of a good personal trainer is someone who is not only a professional, but is also appropriate for your specific personality, needs, goals, and desires. You may be working with this person for awhile, so choose wisely!
