Yoga Meditation For Pain Relief

Yoga Meditation For Pain Relief
 by: Raj Kenshin Norbu

The purpose of this article is to provide information on methods and techniques on how to cope with pain, or in some instances, possibly even overcoming pain with the use of techniques derived from Yoga meditation.
Chronic pain sufferers spend millions of dollars to find ways of relieving their pain. This article hopes to share a process that is natural, and free.
Meditation: The Most Popular Alternative Pain Relief Therapy
According to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, mind-body medicine is the most popular alternative approach for people in pain. And at the heart of mind-body medicine lies the age-old practice of meditation; a quiet, simple technique that belies an extraordinary power that has scientifically been proven to boost disease resistance and maintain overall health.
For many people who suffer from chronic pain, spending quiet time in meditation has proven to be the first step in learning how to cope with their pain. Over the years, thousands of individuals have sought help at stress reduction clinics that teach meditation techniques to people with pain. Their symptoms vary -from headaches, arthritis, and back pain to anxiety, eczema, and many other conditions- but their stories are remarkably similar: For those seeking help in coping with their problems, meditation works.
How Pain Relief Is Attained Thru Meditation (Why Meditation Decreases Pain)
The human body can produce its own natural chemical self-stimulants called endorphins. Among other things, this group of molecules alleviates stress, reduces pain, and gives a feeling of pleasure.
During meditation, when the brain is in a highly synchronous and coherent state (as measured by EEG brainwave biofeedback machines), it produces large quantities of these pleasure-causing neuro-chemicals, i.e., endorphins, making the whole experience pleasurable, giving an overall feeling of well-being. Many report a feeling of peace, happiness, connectedness, and a sense of wholeness when meditating.
Scientists have found that when the brain is stimulated by a pleasurable experience, it is capable of overwhelming or inhibiting other stimuli. Thus, pleasure can overcome depression or pain.
Yoga Meditation Methods For Coping With Or Overcoming Pain
There are many meditation methods and techniques but they can generally be divided into several categories listed below. You may experiment with each one, and maybe even combine them to suit your needs. It all depends on what works best for you. Meditation is a very flexible tool.
Category 1: Breathing
One of the first steps in meditation is being aware of your breath. This method involves the use of specific breathing patterns to bring about relaxation. Essentially, as you slow your breathing rate, the body relaxes, and the mind calms down, as well. Based on my own personal experience, the more relaxed you are, the less pain you will feel.
Category 2: Transformational Life View
Meditation does not only involve breathing awareness. Many meditation traditions ask you to ponder on life-changing concepts such as what reality is and who you really are. Understanding your True Self, and experiencing your True Self directly thru meditation causes practitioners to undergo a profound transformation of view. This transformation of view leads them to a different way of looking at themselves, namely from a perspective of wholeness. With this change of perspective, a new and profound coming to terms with their problems and their suffering begins to take place. From feeling out of control, helpless, and beyond help, they develop a sense of inner peace and acceptance, and even a sense of the possible, a feeling of calm confidence, and control. This attitudinal and emotional transformation plays a major role towards better health and often causes a reduction in physical symptoms and improvement in a person's physical condition.
This transformational life view brings about an ability to act with greater balance and inner security in the world, especially when encountering stress, pain, or illness. This category includes the popular mindfulness meditation which is used extensively by stress reduction clinics that have helped thousands of chronic pain sufferers and people with illnesses.
Category 3: Visualization/ Imagery
Visualization or imagery is a commonly used technique to relieve anxiety and pain. It involves imagining a pleasant and relaxing, or even exciting, place or activity that has brought you happiness in the past or is appealing to you. Mentally exploring this place or activity in great detail can help induce a sense of calm.
Category 4: Prana/ Chi / Life Force
It is said that a life force flows through our bodies, invariably known as prana or chi, and that this energy flows through the body within a psychic nervous system composed of subtle channels. There is an intimate relationship between our mind and this subtle nervous system and we can control or direct this energy for improved well-being, such as for pain relief.
You can also visualize blue, white, or pink healing light having a positive effect on the painful area.
Conclusion
These Yoga meditation techniques have been used for centuries for spiritual purposes. However, they can also be used as natural pain relief methods. By applying the meditation techniques specifically for pain control, practitioners are able to have a positive effect on such severe kinds of pain.
I hope these methods help those of you with chronic pain so that you can use meditation to lead better lives.

Endometriosis Symptoms - What Are The Signs Symptoms Of Endometriosis?

Endometriosis Symptoms - What Are The Signs Symptoms Of Endometriosis?
 by: Olinda Rola

Endometriosis symptoms afflict about 7 million American women. The signs symptoms of endometriosis are one of the most painful conditions a woman will ever have to deal with.
Endometriosis is defined as the abnormal growth of endometrial cells that become scattered in areas where they do not belong. Endometriosis islets can grow in the fallopian tubes, within uterine musculature or outer surface of the uterus, the ovaries, pelvic organs, colon, bladder, the sides of the pelvic cavity and even the lungs. With the onset of the menstrual period, the islets increase in size, swell with blood and bleed into the surrounding areas and tissues. The problem is that there is no place for the tissue and blood to go, and the result is inflammation and a great deal of pain. The occurance of endometriosis symptoms is on the increase, and there is much debate about why.
Here are the most common endometriosis symptoms:
1. Pain - abdominal pain and cramping. And these endometriosis symptoms may be severe in a woman with mild endometriosis and may hardly occur in women with widespread endometriosis. The pain and cramping can be debilitating.
2. Inflammation - during the early part of the menstrual cycle, the endometrial tissue becomes filled with blood. When menstruation occurs, this tissue also gives off blood, but it cannot go anywhere. This blood accumulation causes inflammation that in the abdominal and pelvic tissue becomes very painful.
3. Painful sexual intercourse - endometrial tissue creates pressure in the lower pelvis or prevents the free movement of the pelvic organs.
4. PMS in the days before and during the menstrual period.
5. Rectal bleeding - also painful bowel movements can occur.
6. Chronic fatigue - pain, bleeding and cramping can be exhausting for the woman, making it difficult or impossible to function normally.
7. Infertility and miscarriage - the more widespread the endometriosis, the more likely the woman will have fertility and miscarriage problems.
Some women have endometriosis without having endometriosis symptoms, while others have symptoms but with little endometriosis. And the good news is that something can usually done about it without drugs or surgery with a good chance of experiencing significant improvement.
While the causes of endometriosis symptoms are unknown, high estrogen levels in women appear to be a contributing factor. Endometriosis seems to be a disease of the industrialized countries. It often runs in families, and in many women, there is a correlation to immune dysfunction. Emotional issues are often involved as well in women with endometriosis. In all these causes, hormonal imbalance is a common theme among the various factors.
Women diagnosed with the signs symptoms of endometriosis are frequently encouraged to have a hysterectomy. There ARE conditions for which hysterectomy is advisable or medically necessary, especially if malignant cancer is involved. The presence of malignant ovarian, uterine, or cervical cancer, uncontrollable bleeding, severe endometriosis (adenomyosis) and complex hyperplasia would justify the hysterectomy procedure. Otherwise, remember that hysterectomy is a permanent surgical procedure with numerous undesirable side effects.
If you have endometriosis symptoms, learn more about the natural approach recommended by naturopathic physicians without resorting to drastic measures such as hysterectomy. Read all you can about hormone imbalance, excess estrogen consequences and the role of natural progesterone in treating endometriosis symptoms and related womens health problems.

Exercise and Heart Health a Life Giving Marriage

Exercise and Heart Health a Life Giving Marriage
 by: Nicholas Webb

Most people get their health out of a bottle these days, be it a bottle of vitamins or pharmaceuticals. However, with a little effort and dedication you really can get a hold on your life, turn it round and live it to the full!
If you've been diagnosed with heart disease or are at risk of developing heart disease regular exercise is essential for the health of your heart, body and mind. In fact, aerobic exercise and heart health really do go hand in hand.
With busy lifestyles and lack of time, regular use of home equipment, such as a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, a stationary cycle, a stair-climber, etc. is becoming increasingly popular. These items are now precision health giving apparatus that really can help get you in shape. Gyms are also getting more and more members, but often people slack off because of time restraints. If this is you, working out at home may be the answer for you …
However, before jumping into your gym shoes talk to your doctor about your desires and objectives. Your doctor may be able to give you some useful insights you didn't consider as well as coaching from a medical point of view. If your doctor gives you the OK, try to work some exercise into your daily routine. The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests, for example, that patients start by walking five minutes a day, then increasing gradually to 30 minutes over several weeks. Walking is a wonderful way to start, as it is low impact, you need no special equipment, and it costs nothing. Swimming may be another good choice. This type of exercise is called aerobic training that involves large muscle groups, such as the legs, and keeps your heart rate pumping for a set amount of time. Unless there are deformities of the heart muscle, aerobics and heart health are often found together and not only does the heart benefit, there are other advantages too.
Aerobic Exercising and Heart Health
As you can see, take it slow initially; it's really not necessary to sign up at the local gym or aerobic class. Although, after some time you might want to do just that.
Depending on where you live walking or swimming may not be an option. In such cases, you may like to consider a piece of home aerobic equipment such as a treadmill, stationary cycle or elliptical trainer. However, before purchasing a home trainer consider whether you will really use it. If the answer is yes, best get the best home aerobic equipment you can afford. Your heart will thank you.
Lack of exercise and heart disease
The American Heart Association has now added "lack of exercise" to the list of major risk factors for heart disease. The other risk factors are smoking, high blood pressure, and high blood cholesterol.
Exercise not only helps fight heart disease and gets you in shape, but if you live a sedentary lifestyle, a regular exercise routine can also: help control high blood pressure, reduce the risks of type II diabetes, help prevent osteoporosis, improve your general wellbeing and help fight depression, anxiety and stress, greatly help to lose weight
Those are just some of the benefits of doing regular exercise. I wanted to make a list of some of the disadvantages, but I can't think of any!
In an ideal world, in order to get the best results possible you should exercise three to five times a week for 30-60 minutes within your target heart rate. But even normal day to day events, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, walking to work, walking the dog, or gardening can help. You can do many things to increase physical activity during the day; just try thinking about what you can do. The benefits are well worth the effort.
Another thing that has proven to be effective is cross training. In cross training you participate in 2 or more different types of exercise during the week, for instance: Monday walking, Tuesday treadmill, Wednesday swimming, Thursday elliptical training, etc. You may also like to insert some strengthening exercises too, such as weight lifting.
Not only will cross training help to tone your whole body, it will help stop boredom setting in. Many people stop training not because they don't have the time (that's the reason they don't start), but because they get bored. If you can arrange a routine where you do something different each day, it is going to be difficult to get bored.
So, talk with your doctor and start now! Once you notice the result, nothing will stop you. You'll loose weight, be more toned and fit, will have a sharper outlook on life and, oh yes I almost forgot, you'll live longer!

Glyconutrients The New Frontier in Science

Glyconutrients The New Frontier in Science
 by: Kerry Greening

What are glyconutrients?
Glyconutrients are a new classification of phytonutrients from plants. Glyconutrients are plant saccharides which are necessary for cell-to-cell communication. They include mannose, galactose, fucose, xylose, glucose, sialic acid, N-acetylglucosamine, and N-acetylgalactosamine.
Glyconutrients are absorbed in the body by active routes using direct receptors or passive diffusion using monosaccharide transporters. Carbohydrate digestion and absorption can occur along the entire length of the small intestine and is shifted toward the ileum when the diet contains less readily digested carbohydrates. Polysaccharides and disaccharides must have the water removed from them (hydrolyzed) to form their component monosaccharides before being absorbed.
What are glyconutritionals?
Glyconutritionals are products made using glyconutrients.
Why do we need glyconutrients?
Although the body can convert glucose to the various saccharides used in cell-to-cell communication, the conversion process is complicated, requiring energy and time as well as numerous enzymes and vitamins. Rather than convert glucose for glycosylation reactions, the body actually prefers to utilize non-glucose essential sugars provided in the diet. This more direct route also avoids the expenditure of unnecessary energy and allows for more rapid production of needed glycoproteins and other glycoconjugates.
In fact, animal studies have shown that if only glucose is supplied (e.g. intravenous feeding), the liver can severely malfunction, due to a lack of the other essential glycoconjugate sugars. This indicates that the body simply cannot synthesize all the other essential sugars from glucose to the extent that they are needed.
How does the body use glyconutrients?
Over the last decade, researchers have made many exciting discoveries, but few are as significant as the realization that carbohydrates aren't just for energy. Certain sugars that we call glyconutrients or super sugars aren't burned as fuel like glucose, but are used to communicate with and to control and protect every cell in the body. Just as computers need a code to write and translate information, your body needs a code to operate. This sugar code of biological information exists in and on every cell in your body.
The body joins these sugars to proteins making structures known as glycoproteins which are attached to the surface of every cell. They send and translate commands from one cell to another throughout your body's 600 trillion cells. Projecting from the cell surface, they act as keys to "unlock" the required functions of the adjoining cell. If the right glycoprotein "keys" are available, the body functions smoothly as the flow of information between cells is uninterrupted. If the needed glycoproteins are not available, communication is slowed or impaired.
Getting the blend of sugars provides your body with a ready supply of raw materials for coding. No combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids or herbals can take their place.
Where are these particular saccharides found?
They can be obtained from various plant gums, whole grains and other plant extracts. Not all plants yield the same type of plant saccharides.
Who determined that ingesting a particular blend of saccharides might have a beneficial effect on health?
Scientists reasoned that if mannose supported health, so would the other specific sugar molecules known to be involved in all cellular communication. Scientists proved that proteins, due to the limited number of ways that amino acids bond, could not account for all of the functions performed by the body. Only carbohydrates could be combined in the number of ways required to account for the body's enormous coding capacity.
When did scientists produce and research the first glyconutritional formula containing these saccharides?
They began experimenting with various formulas in 1995 and began filing patents on the glyconutritional blends in 1996.

The Formula for Complete Success

The Formula for Complete Success
 by: Kerry Emrich

The formula for complete success is to combine many different parts into one masterpiece.
Getting adequate rest each day, it is said that the man who can take rest is greater than the man who can take a city. Get the rest, meditation, relaxation that your body needs to function at its peak and further enhance your energy you can devote to your business, career, health, relationships, and love.
Get yourself a hobby anything that takes your mind off the world for a while will help increase your love of life and help you relax, eliminate stress, and enjoy peace. It can be something as simple as gardening, reading, cooking, or looking at the stars.
Stop using your cell phone, try to get out of the house, or the office more and actually visit your family, lover, or clients. This not only provides a change of scenery, but can be like a mini vacation or holiday in you hectic day. Your fears and phobia are less likely to popup when you are feeling relaxed.
Take up meditation, yoga, stretching, or other mind and spirit expanding mental exercise. Anything from Buddhism to simple prayer helps to remove the anxiety, and stress associated with daily life. Studies have shown that a person who meditates daily can lower the risk of ulcers, cancer, heart attacks, mental illness and more. This is in addition to increasing the function of the immune system which when strengthened can play a vital role in protecting the body from harmful things such as pollution, and may even play a role in protecting you from things like lung cancer, impotence, and lack of physical energy. For stress relief ideas I like to go to http://www.ionta.com.
Act happy, feel happy, be happy. When you try to focus on the positive things in life you start to see more positive things. Life is more like a cake than a bowl of cherries, each piece of it builds on each other to support you, but you need to choose the right ingredients to put in your body. When times get tough, it is this cake composed of all that is you that supports you throughout the day. The annoying parts of your day become less stressful, you know, demands from your boss, spam, family matters, car loans, credit cards, mortgage, taxes, car loans, and so on.
Avoid putting junk into your system. The body requires a constant supply of nutrition, but the quality of what goes in equals the quality of what comes out. Constantly drinking alcohol, or taking prescription drugs is a quick path to drug rehab, or an amazing Medicare funded stay at a residential drug treatment center. Tobacco, fatty foods, cocaine, donuts, you know what I am talking about. Stay away from this and your body will thank you.
Your mind is like a web site, choose the right keywords, the right colors, the right autoresponder, the right marketing, the right articles, the right diet of information, and you will be successful, but choose poorly and you will be stuck in the Google sandbox of life.

Bet You Didn.t Know . . . All Waters Are Not Created Equal

Bet You Didn't Know . . . All Waters Are Not Created Equal
 by: K.C. Craichy

Water fortifies our systems and our cells. Without it, we couldn't survive. And it has been linked to many health benefits, from removing toxins from the system to improving brain function. Those 8 to 12 glasses of water a day are certainly critical . . . but if the water we drink isn't "clean," we're not doing our bodies much good.
Contaminants, from chlorine to aluminum, in our tap water supply have caused many consumers to abandon their taps for bottled water. But bottled waters have their own hazards. The acidic pH in many plastic bottled waters causes the plastic to leach into the water, particularly if the bottles have been sitting in a warehouse for a long time.
It's important to drink waters that have a pH of 7.0 and higher, and preferably housed in glass bottles or safer plastics such as PET or PETE. Here are some excellent spring and artesian water choices: Mountain Valley Spring Water, VOSS Artesian Water, Fiji Natural Artesian Spring Water, Trinity Spring Water.
If you continue to use tap water as your primary water source, consider investing in a home water filtering unit such as The Wellness Filter www.wellnessfilter.com or The Ionizer Plus hightechhealth.com. At the very least, invest in a carbon pitcher filter system such as Brita or PUR, which filter out many impurities.
Also, be careful of distilled water. Although some people will use distilled water as a detoxifier when they are fasting, it should be kept to a minimum. Distilled water has no mineral or nutritional content and long-term use can cause a rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium and chloride).
Super Health Hydration Tip: Most other fluids don't "count" towards your water goal. Soft drinks, coffee, alcohol . . . these diuretics are dehydrators that actually deplete the body of essential minerals and vitamins and compromise the gains you get from drinking clean water. Your 8 to 12 glasses should be "net" glasses of water per day.

You Don't Have to Be Wealthy to Eat Well...The Truth About Your Grocery Budget

You Don't Have to Be Wealthy to Eat Well...The Truth About Your Grocery Budget
 by: K.C. Craichy

Many people complain that organic foods are more costly than conventional. In many cases, organic foods are priced higher. However, people aren't weighing the costs of eating healthy against the costs of eating poorly. Americans spend millions of dollars each week on "coffee house foods"—fatty lattŠ¹s and sugary frappucinos, not to mention the white-floured, trans fatty pastries that go along with them. If you were to keep a strict accounting of all the money you spent on soda, pizza, potato chips, pastries, etc., then the question is not so much how much things cost, but where the money is being spent.
And the costs don't just stop there. The health hazards of the fungicide, pesticide, herbicide and chemical residuals found on conventional foods have been well documented. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 60% of herbicides, 90% of fungicides and 30% of insecticides to be carcinogenic. Such substances also compromise our immunologic defenses and are disruptive to our endocrine systems.
But not only are conventional foods more harmful because of chemical contaminants, they are also less nutritious. Organic produce has consistently shown significantly higher levels of nutrients such as vitamin C, iron, magnesium and phosphorus. Can you really put a price on the safety of the foods you and your family eats?
There are ways to eat well, without taking a huge bite out of your wallet: Join an organic co-op; Go to local farms to pick and purchase fresh, regionally-grown produce; Check out stores like Trader Joes, discount grocery stores that have begun to offer a greater selection of organic products; Scan the coupon sections in the paper . . . more and more grocery coupons are applying to organic products now; Make two lists—one list of "non-negotiables"—products you won't compromise on, and a second list of items that are of lesser priority. For example: organic bananas aren't as critical as organic strawberries, as berries are heavily sprayed and not protected by a thick skin. Processed foods often come in a box or can, are intended for single meals, and do not preserve well as leftovers. Organic, whole foods on the other hand lend themselves more readily to stews, soups, and casseroles, which means more leftovers. The investment of time in preparing these meals is more than made up for in their multiple uses throughout the week. Incredible savings can be found in cooking this way. And finally, the more people demand and purchase organic foods, the more the prices will drop!
Super Health Nutrition Tip: Put these low-calorie, nutrient-dense Superfoods at the top of your grocery list:
• Grain grasses (like wheat grass)
• Sea vegetables (like kelp)
• Dark green vegetables (like spinach and broccoli)
• Bright-colored vegetables (like bell peppers)
• Berries (blueberries)
• Eggs from free-range hens
• Grass-fed/grain-free/organic beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, venison, bison, etc.
• Rice and yellow pea protein
• Goat milk protein
• Non-denatured why protein
• Stabilized brown rice bran
• Sprouted legumes and grains such as kasha (buckwheat)
• Fresh-squeezed combinations of vegetable juice
• Sprouts (alfalfa or mung bean, for example)

Do You Need To Cut Down 100 Calories A Day? But Don.t Know What 100 Calories Is?

Do You Need To Cut Down 100 Calories A Day? But Don't Know What 100 Calories Is?
 by: Roy Thomsitt

The difference between weight loss, and steady or weight gain, can be as little as 100 calories a day. Well, that is according to the American Dietetic Association, and it is very easy to believe the underlying truth in that.
Most overweight people in the US and UK put on weight very slowly over the years. A weight gain of 2lbs per year, which is about average, may seem very little. In fact, it is very little, if it stops there and you take it off again. However, a steady weight gain of 2 lbs per year for 10 years is 20lb. In 20 years it is 40lb. Now, that is a serious weight gain that can increase vulnerability to chronic disease. If you are in your 20's now, you can look forward to a weight drift upwards of 60 lbs by the time you reach your 50's.
That, for sure, is not a healthy trend. But the cause of that 2lb weight gain each year could be as little as an extra 100 calories a day regularly over the year. So, if you can cut out 100 calories a day, you may keep your weight under control over the years. Or how about doing that little bit extra that will use 100 calories per day? Neither task is that difficult

What Happened to Ephedra?

What Happened to Ephedra?
 by: Ted E Collins

Many Ephedra consumers still believe the ban is still in effect. It probably comes as a great surprise that the ban on Ephedra, one of nature's most powerful weight loss supplements, was lifted in April of 2005. A Utah Judge overturned the FDA's decision to ban the substance. So why is it that the most sought after diet pill seems to have vanished from the face of the earth? We took the liberty of interviewing 4 of the top nutritional suppliers. They admit they receive daily inquiries and the demand is higher than ever. However, they are unaware of the new ruling. The reason many would be suppliers take such a reactive approach to changes in the law is that they follow primarily the FDA bans and blessings. So do all of the advertising mediums that design their company policies and guidelines around FDA standards.
The power of Ephedra cannot be denied. It has helped hundreds of thousands of people with weight problems slim down. Where other pills and potions have failed, Ephedra still remains as the top challenger for the most powerful weight loss supplement out there. So, has Ephedra vanished? Not really. Until the FDA releases a statement that they will agree to the new ruling, most all of the manufacturing labs won't touch it even though the demand is greater than ever. In our weeks of research, we were able to find one bold supplier, Marqi Fitness. They are sitting on the entire world supply of Ephedra which contains a standardized form of 10mg of pure Ephedrine. They are sitting on an absolute gold mine and they know it. For more information about how to purchase Ephedra, you can visit their product site at www.EphedraLabs.com.
Ephedra is a powerful fat burner. In fact, before the ban, billions of bottles were being sold each year. Labs could not produce it fast enough. The demand is still there, however, the problem is that consumers have no idea where to get it until now. Thanks to Ephedra Labs, the "Weight" is over.

Take care of yourself. You deserve the time it takes to exercise. Your family deserves a healthy member. You deserve to have a healthy life, feel good, and live a long time even if you have to take time to exercise.
Fear. Diet fear? No, fear of change. What happens when I get thin? Will guys hit on me all the time? Or I might fail, again. Face your fears and tell yourself you can handle them. Its easy to maintain the status quo, change is hard. You can do it.
Forget the scale, eat healthy and exercise and the number on the scale will find you. Focus more on the way you live, what you eat and what you do rather than a number on the scale.
Face the facts, you have to eat. If you are an alcoholic or smoke, you can quit even though it may not be easy. But you can't just quit eating all together. Food is addictive and you have to eat. But what you eat, is a choice.
We also are persuaded with images of people having a good time eating. You have to fight the social aspect of eating and remain true to yourself and eat to survive, not survive to eat.
You have to get the junk food out of the cabinet, but you also have to replace it with good food to eat. You are going to get hungry and you are going to want a snack. Instead of grabbing a cookie, get an apple. If you remove all the food so to speak, then you might binge or feel deprived. It's not about any of these things, it's what you eat.
When a routine snack time comes, you have to change what you normally do. Don't take a break with the guys to get a drink and snack. Go for a walk – anything – just something different. If you are at home, play with the kids, dogs, or yard work. Change your routine snack time to distract your urge to snack.
You have to exercise. You don't have to LIKE to exercise, but you have to exercise. Eating less can take you so far, but our bodies weren't made to sit on the couch all the time. Make exercise a routine in your day just like taking a bath and going to work.
Change your reward system. If you are doing great, don't get a cookie. Buy something. Set a goal. If money is tight, give yourself extra time to do something you enjoy (besides eating). You must have small goals to obtain and a reward system of anything other than food.
Do it for you. Don't let others tell you that you need to be a size 6 to fit into society. Do it because you want to live longer, walk a flight of stairs without gasping for air, or just to look younger. Its about you, not your husband or parents or friends. Make the change for a better you. You can do it!

What Is Mesothelioma?

What Is Mesothelioma?
 by: Steve Austin

Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. They can invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
Mesothelioma is a benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous) tumor affecting the lining of the chest or abdomen. Exposure to asbestos particles in the air increases the risk of developing malignant mesothelioma. The Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that involves the mesothelium, or cells that line an organ, abdominal organs, usually the lungs, and heart. The most common form of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, where the malignant tumors form on the pleura, the sac that lines the chest cavity and protects the lungs. Other forms of mesothelioma affect the peritoneum (abdominal cavity lining) and the pericardium (which is lining around the heart).
Mesothelioma is usually caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos mesothelioma is a fibrous mineral known to be carcinogenic. People who are exposed to asbestos fibers for just a short period of time (few weeks) or even to a small amount may be at risk. In particular, people working with asbestos and their family members or those who live with them develop mesothelioma. There is a long latency period between initial exposure to asbestos and the development of malignant tumors. On average, 35-40 years elapse before the onset of disease.
The early symptoms of mesothelioma can resemble pneumonia, including shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, persistent cough, chest and abdominal pain. Often, there is fluid buildup between the pleura and chest cavity (called pleural effusions), which leads to dyspnea (shortness of breath) and sometimes pain. Some people may not have any symptoms.
Treatment for mesothelioma cancer can be surgery to remove the tumors, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of the three. Depending on the person's health, time of diagnosis, and other factors, the survival rate is about four to 12 months from the onset of symptoms. However, occasionally people may live longer.

Little Tricks To Help You Lose Weight Fast

Little Tricks To Help You Lose Weight Fast
 by: Spencer Fogliano

We all know that we are supposed to cut calories, do cardio and hit the gym to get in shape, but there are lots of little tricks you shouldn't ignore if you want to slim down quick.
Take The Stairs
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator every day can help you burn some extra calories. It may not seem like a lot but it adds up. Over a period of a year, taking the stairs can burn off an extra five lbs. of fat.
Snack on Pickles
Pickles are delicious and they have only 1 calorie each!
Drink H20 Before You Eat
Drinking water before you eat will fill you up so you don't eat as much. Try to down 2 glasses of water 10 minutes before each meal. You'll notice that you can't down that entire pizza if you do, and you definitely will skip deser.
Skip The Soda
If you do nothing else, at least skip the soda for 1 meal a day. This can save you up to 3,000 calories per week!
Don't Shop Hungry
When you are about to go to the supermarket to pick up food for the week, make sure you eat a big meal before you go. You'll notice that suddenly all of those junky foods won't have the same appeal and you'll be more likely to make wiser decisions.
Don't Be Fooled By The Fat Free Phenomenon
Skip the fat free frozen yogurt and other sweets that are loaded with sugar. Very often these fat free sweets are filled with sugar to make up for the taste they lose with the fat.
Put Up Photos
Put up some photos on your refrigerator of how you want to look and/or pics of you when you were in great shape. This will help motivate you to resist every time you feel like reaching for that gallon of ice cream. You can also put a pic of you when you looked really out of shape to show you how you DON'T want to look. This can be even more motivating.
Eat Slowly
It takes a while for the brain to register that it's full. If you eat slow enough you'll give your body time to notify the brain that you've had enough and you'll eat less because you'll feel full
Don't Eat With Fat Friends
Yeah, we know Joey's been your friend since the first grade but that doesn't mean you have to go eat with him. Getting into the eating pattern of fatter friends can be a quick road to destruction.
Don't Eat Everything On Your Plate
Americans have the habit of finishing everything on their plate even when they are full. It probably stems from our mom telling us that we need to finish everything because there are starving kids in Ethiopia that would do anything for our food. Forget about all of this guilt. Your mom will be much happier when you eat less and live much longer to take care of her when she's old.

The Facts About Rhinoplasty Nasal Surgery - Part I

The Facts About Rhinoplasty Nasal Surgery - Part I
 by: Wendy Butler

Rhinoplasty is a surgery to reshape the nose. This is one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip or bridge of the nose, narrow the span of the nostrils, change the angle between the nose and upper lip, or correct a birth defect or injury as well as relieve breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can change appearance and increase self-confidence but you will not necessarily end up with a "perfect" nose.
The best candidates for rhinoplasty are people looking for an improvement in their nose and not perfection. You also must be physically healthy, psychologically stable, and have realistic expectations of the future results of the surgery.
Are there any risks to rhinoplasty? Any surgery creates a possibility of complications, including infections, nosebleed, or reactions to anesthesia. Reduce your risks by carefully following your surgeon's instructions before and after surgery. After the surgery, small burst blood vessels may appear on your nose as small red spots that are minor but may be permanent. There is not usually any scarring if the rhinoplasty incision is inside the nose. When an "open" technique is used there is a small scar on base of nose but it is usually invisible.
Some tricks for planning your rhinoplasty are having a high level of communication with your surgeon and his office. Discuss the rhinoplasty techniques that are to be performed, what kind of anesthesia will be used, and the risks associated with the surgery. You need to communicate to your Doctor about any previous surgery's you might have had, especially nose surgeries. You also need to tell your Doctor about any allergies you have or breathing difficulties as well as any medications, vitamins, or recreational drugs you have taken. If you smoke, you need to tell your Doctor as he/she might have some advice for you concerning smoking. If you have any questions, let your Doctor know so that your nerves will not get irritated.
To prepare for your surgery your Doctor will give you guidelines on eating and drinking the day before, smoking, what medications you can and cannot take, and washing your face. Carefully follow the Doctor's instructions to ensure your rhinoplasty goes smoothly and you heal quickly. Be sure you arrange for someone to drive you home after your rhinoplasty and help you out for a couple of days afterwards at home.
In part two of this article you will learn what to expect during your rhinoplasty and afterwards.

Rhinoplasty Before And After - Surgery And Recovery - Part II

Rhinoplasty Before And After - Surgery And Recovery - Part II
 by: Wendy Butler

Now that you have made the decision to undergo rhinoplasty and have prepared for your surgery, the next step is the rhinoplasty surgery itself and the after affects.
Rhinoplasty can be performed in the surgeon's office-based facility, an outpatient surgery center, or a hospital. Usually the surgery is performed on an outpatient basis but if it is a complicated rhinoplasty then you may be required to stay in the hospital.
You will either be under local or general anesthesia. Local anesthesia is when you are lightly sedated and your nose and the surrounding area is numb. You know what is going on but cannot feel what is happening to your nose. General anesthesia is when you sleep through the surgery and do not know what is happening.
Rhinoplasty surgery normally takes one to two hours unless it is a complex rhinoplasty. The rhinoplasty itself consists of the skin being separated from the bone and cartilage. The bone and cartilage are sculpted into the desired shape and the skin is then draped over the new nose framework. Most surgeons make the rhinoplasty incision inside the nose in the nostrils, but some surgeons prefer the "open" procedure where the incision is made in the middle part of the nose nearest the upper lip. There is a scar left but the scar is hardly noticeable in that area of your nose.
When your rhinoplasty is complete, the surgeon will place a splint on your nose to help it maintain its shape. Sometimes nasal packs or splint may be place in the nostrils as well.
After the rhinoplasty your face may be puffy, you may be experiencing pain, or you may have a dull headache. Take the medication prescribed by your Doctor as needed. Stay in bed with your head elevated for the first day after your rhinoplasty. There will be some swelling and bruising around your eyes and this swelling will reach its highest peak at 2-3 days after surgery. Cold compresses will reduce the swelling and make your eyes and face feel better. In a few days you will feel much better than you look as most swelling and bruising takes at least two weeks to disappear. A little bleeding is common after a rhinoplasty and you may have a "stuffy" feeling nose for a few weeks. Any nasal packing or stitches will be removed after a few days.
You will be up and feeling somewhat better within two days after your rhinoplasty. You should be able to return to school or sedentary work after a week or so. The Doctor will give you specific guidelines as to what you can return to and when during your follow-up visits. Follow the Doctor's instructions and keep your follow-up visits to ensure that your surgery is successful!

Cosmetic dentistry is the procedure to improve the appearance of teeth. With the recent developments in dental techniques and dental materials, cosmetic dentistry has made it possible for many people to have better looking smile.
You might consider cosmetic dentistry if you have one of the following conditions with your teeth: gaps between teeth, cracks or cavities, broken or crooked teeth, stained or discolored teeth, uneven teeth, chips or rough spots.
If you are considering cosmetic dentistry, you should keep the following facts in mind: First of all, cosmetic dentistry is costly and usually not covered by dental insurance. Some procedures might cost you over $1000 per tooth. You should make sure you can afford it because you do it. Also, the procedure might need to be repeated every 10 to 15 years because some materials used in cosmetic dentistry might not last very long.

A Commonsense Guide to Exorcism

A Commonsense Guide to Exorcism
 by: Robin Renee Bridges

Enlightenment shines its spotlight in all the dark nooks and crannies of religious dogma gone wrong. As long as there have been humans and religious authorities to frighten the masses into obedience, there have been exorcisms. From trepanning in prehistoric times to the deliverance ministries and catholic rites of today, well meaning shamans and clerics have sought to exorcise the "demons" of mental illness and addiction to no avail. It's time to stop the nonsense.
A Commonsense Guide to Exorcism
Bloodshot eyes stared at the crucifix six inches from his nose. Leather restraints lined with lamb's wool fastened his arms and legs to the chair. The demon-possessed man lunged at the hand holding the holy symbol. Gnashing teeth struggled to bite the outstretched wrist.
Crimson scratches and cryptic markings appeared across his belly. Blood and sweat spattered the floor around the brute, while a puddle of urine under his chair slowly spread out until the priest could no longer avoid standing in it. The satanic beast chewed his tongue and the tender flesh inside his cheek. His tortured mouth spit blood and tissue and obscenities at those attending the exorcism.
What we have here is a Hollywood-embellished, grotesque superstition at work.
What happened to cause rational people to accept this archaic remnant of religious authority's attempt to control the masses with fear? Frightened followers submit under scare tactics of hellfire and damnation. This is doubly effective because the authorities believe in what they are teaching people. They too fear the evil entities brought to life by their imagination.
Why are we so vulnerable to this indoctrination? Because all souls are encoded to seek God. We begin our life on earth with a "god-shaped hole" in our soul. God puts it there so we will want to find our way back to Him.
We spend our lives trying to fill the "empty spot." We pack it with lovers, religion, money, drugs, work, excitement, gambling, etc. None of these fits, so we're soon on the search again looking for love, for attachment, for distraction, and for fulfillment.
In the older religions from Abraham through Jesus Christ and Mohammed, the lower nature of humans was referred to as demons, devils, and Satan. These are allegorical names for turning away from God and goodness.
The pure teachings of the Messengers of God never suggested that demons, devils, Satanic powers, or fallen angels are anything other than allegory. The Church and Hollywood borrowed their concepts and descriptions of these entities and their work from Dante's "Inferno" written over 700 years ago during the European Dark Ages.
Family traditions, religious teachings, television, movies, and books instill the belief in demons, devils, and possession. When someone in authority tells a person that they are possessed by a demon, most believe it. Traditions, television, movies, and books show people how a demon-possessed person is supposed to act. Psychogenic purpuras is the medical term for stress related bruising and bleeding from the skin and mucosa. It's common in cases of great emotional stress. It's "super hives." Exorcisms are created for these man-made demons.
As cultures progress, they recognize the absurdity surrounding religious superstition and dogma. Today we understand that the Greek and Roman mythological gods were a phenomenon of that age, and our enlightenment invests less and less fear in imaginary devils and demons. Education shines its light in the dark corners of the mind. A culture's fear of demons is in direct ratio to the education of its people.
Fear of an overwhelming power of evil is a learned fear. It is taught in order to control the behavior of people. Religious belief and spiritual authority without the influence of science is superstition. In the same way that Galileo was excommunicated from the church for saying that the earth was not the center of the universe, people are controlled by a belief in demons and demonic possession.
Some religions have become the stronghold of superstition. I have attended both a voodoo service and a holy roller church service. The physical actions appeared the same. The guttural gibberish sounded the same. They both had people rolling on the floor in a state of spiritual "ecstasy," and they both teach demonic possession.
We live in a world of great scientific discovery, a world of brain science and neurotransmitters. Why to you think the chemical lithium can exorcise a demon? Why can PCP unleash a demon? If you look at demon possession clinically, you will find schizophrenia, psychoses, Tourettes Syndrome, alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.
Where a belief in demons is strongest, incidents of possession are strongest. This is commonsense, folks. People, who fear demons, find demons to fear. People, who worry about demon possession, find demons to possess them. People, who imagine demons are lurking and waiting for a chance to pounce upon them, get pounced upon.
People, who understand the psychological impact of superstition and fear, know that they are fully in charge of themselves, and they are never possessed by mythical demons. People, who know that old houses creak, squirrels make nests in the attic, and underground caverns cause infrasound vibrations are not haunted by demons. Why is that? I think you know the answer.
An evil spirit is nothing more than a bad attitude ... a spirit of hate, a spirit of greed, a spirit of cruelty, etc. And you can choose to replace these with a spirit of joy, a spirit of love, a spirit of giving. These are conscious choices made by a human's free will. We choose how we think, what we do, and what we say. "The devil made me do it" is a powerful alternative to accepting responsibility for our free will choices and behaviors.
So, how do you exorcise demons? By seeing them for what they are, unhealthy childhood experiences of mental, emotional, or physical abuse. Sick families raise sick children. Sick children raise more sick children. Loving, nurturing environments exorcise demons. Knowledge exorcises demons.
1. Know that demons are imaginary creations of fears common to man's lower nature.
2. Understand that there are no demons with the power to possess you.
3. In cases of mental illness, seek professional help.
4. In cases of addiction, seek professional help.

How To Keep Yourself Fit On Vacations

How To Keep Yourself Fit On Vacations
 by: Varun Pratap

If your family just decided to go on a cruise or may be spend sometime alone with each other.
Are you worried, about missing your daily workout routine?
Yes???.
Vacations should be fun and fun can be increased if you keep yourself Fighting Fit.
Pre-vacation planning can help you and your family to stick to healthy lifestyle activities and enjoy their time off. Encourage them to research the following while making their plans to have a Fitness Vacation.
Hotels/Motels Is there an exercise area and swimming pool? What additional recreational activities are available? - biking trails, inline skating, parks, walking/jogging paths. Is there a fitness facility (YMCA, etc) nearby that services the hotel guests? What kind of exercise clothes and accessories for planned exercise activities will be needed?
Time for Exercise
Plan at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week for exercise (some of my routines take even less than 20 minutes). · If driving long distances is part of the vacation - walk briskly for a few minutes at each rest stop. Walk briskly through the terminal during long layovers in your Fitness Vacation.
Workout in a Suitcase Rubber resistance bands or tubing for strength training during your Fitness Vacation. Jump rope for cardiovascular exercise. Pushups, squats/lunges, abdominal exercises can be done without equipment. Stretch daily.
Sit down with your family/friends brainstorm for ways to include fitness in their vacations. Do a "practice" vacation workout with them before they leave on their Fitness Vacation.
Write their workout on a log and encourage them to use it. Remember you can always use hotel/motel stuff to work out like box jumps on bed (jump off the floor on bed and jump down again etc) on the Fitness Vacation.

Wonderful Foaming Honey Foot Bath at Home

Wonderful Foaming Honey Foot Bath at Home
 by: Nathan Kontny

I imagine you can tell me at length about how tired your feet and legs get after your busy day. When's the last time you got to treat yourself to a day at the spa? Even if you had the time, it's not too often you can afford the $100 cost of a simple, relaxing, foot soak.
Doesn't that sound nice? A relaxing foot soak at a spa. So I put together this simple recipe so you can have that soothing soak with ingredients you probably already have at home, and can whip up immediately.
***
Step 1. Create this wonderful foaming honey foot bath at home.
Here's what you need: 1 tablespoon Honey 1 tablespoon Liquid Soap (I used dish soap) 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract 2 tablespoons Sweet Almond Oil
The almond oil was the only things that sounded like it was tough to find, but my wife and I found it at the chain drugstore at the corner of our street. Just take a look in the beauty/cosmetic aisle.
Mix all these ingredients together in a bowl and its ready for your foot bath. Note: If you want to make this stuff in a large quantity to save for later, you can bump up all the ingredients to something like this: Š… cup Honey Š… cup Liquid Soap (I used dish soap) 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract 1 cup Sweet Almond Oil
Now you can save this in a bottle and save some time for next time.
Step 2. Find yourself a foot bath
These days you can get a fancy, space-age, foot bath for about $20. They promise they do all sorts of things like vibration, bubbles, and heat. I haven't tried one myself, but for $20 that probably isn't a bad experiment.
My wife however didn't need one as she had me volunteer to provide all the scrubbing and massaging for her.
Wait! Hon, I don't recall you ever offering me a foot bath?
So anything around the house that can submerse your feet just above the ankle is going to work here. We ended up using a disposable aluminum roasting pan.
Yes it was brand new and didn't have roasted meat in it!
Step 3. Fill up your foot bath
Put your mixed up concoction from Step 1 into your foot bath and fill with warm water.
Please be real careful with the water temperature. Do this by triple checking the temperature of the water with your hands when it's done. And if you are doing this for a spouse make sure you understand their taste in temperature.
I speak from experience here. I got a little lazy, and didn't judge the hotness of the water. Although my wife was a trooper and tried to go along anyways. I could tell from her grimace and refusal to dip more than like a toe into the water, that I made it too hot.
Step 4. Soak for 10 minutes
After I got the temperature of the water right, we soaked her feet for 10 minutes. There is all sorts of good stuff going on now during this soak.
The soap is obviously cleaning all sorts of impurities from your feet. I can't even explain how many things the honey is doing. Here is a short list:
1) Apparently honey forms hydrogen peroxide which is a great anti bacterial agent. So there is goes cleansing your feet some more.
2) Honey contains antioxidants. Health news constantly revolves around us getting more antioxidants. So without me getting all biologist on us, I'll just confirm that getting more antioxidants on our skin and in our diet is really super great!
3) Honey is also a terrific humectant. All that means is it makes a great moisturizer.

Just knowing about this foot bath, you can get started on your at-home foot spa. So take 15 minutes tonight and pamper yourself. Those feet are going to feel so soft, especially in a comfy pair of flip flops.

Vitamin Supplements . A Pill Is Not Always The Answer

Vitamin Supplements – A Pill Is Not Always The Answer
 by: Marc Lindsay

Vitamins are organic compounds that our bodies use, in very small amounts, for a variety of metabolic processes.
Taking vitamins 'just in case' is not a habit that anyone should get into and it is always recommended that vitamins are taken through wholesome and quality food.
There are many different reasons and types of people that may want or need to take supplements, some of these may include, some vegetarians, people who drink large amounts of alcohol, drug users, athletic people, pregnant and lactating women and elderly people.
Are you using Vitamins and Minerals like medicine pills?
There seems to be a trend occurring where it is believed that taking massive or "mega-doses" of various vitamins will work like medicine to cure certain conditions. For example, vitamin C has been thought of as a cure for the common cold for generations and in fact you were probably even told this by your mother at some stage. Despite extensive research on this it has yet to be proven
Vitamins from food are best
Research indicates that most of the vitamins you get from the food you eat are better than those contained in pills. Even though the vitamins in supplements are synthesized to the exact chemical composition of naturally occurring vitamins, they still don't seem to work as well. For this reason when selecting a vitamin supplement it is important that a natural vitamin supplement is selected
Research has shown that a food component that has a particular effect on the body when present in food may not have the same effect when it is isolated and taken as a supplement. This could be because the vitamins and minerals in foods are also influenced by other components of the food, not just the 'active ingredient'.
Food is a complex source of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, which all work together. Supplements tend to work in isolation. Phytochemicals (plant chemicals) are an important component of food. They are thought to reduce the incidence of cancer and heart disease. Supplements do not provide the benefits of phytochemicals and other components found in food. Taking vitamin supplements is no substitute for a varied diet
A short term measure
Taking vitamin supplements should be viewed as a short term measure. The long term use of supplements can lead to symptoms of overdosing or poisoning. If you feel that you could be lacking in certain vitamins and minerals, it may be better to look at changing your diet and lifestyle rather than reaching for supplements.
This being said if you are a highly active person you may need to constantly supplement your vitamin intake as you will be using your sources much quicker then the average person.
You should always consult you doctor if you are thinking of starting a vitamin supplement routine
Specific medical conditions that can benefit from vitamin supplementation
There are specific medical conditions that are known to benefit from certain vitamin supplementation. In this case it is recommended that you consult your doctor first and then if you are searching for a vitamin supplement ensure that you are using a natural well formulated supplement.
Recent scientific studies have outlined some specific areas that can benefit largely from vitamin supplementation. These are:
If all women of childbearing age used multi vitamins with folic acid, it should be possible to reduce the current incidence of neural tube birth defects like spina bifida by as much as 70%.
The routine use of multi vitamins and mineral supplements by the elderly could improve immune function and thus reduce infectious disease, potentially cutting in half the total number of days they are sick.
Supplementation with calcium and vitamin D could reduce the rate of hip fracture among older people by at least 20%-meaning 40,000 to 50,000 fewer hip fractures each year in the United States-for an average annual savings of $1.5 to $2 billion.
The potential cost savings of a prevention-oriented approach to health and diet are tremendous. A 1997 analysis predicted that if the occurrence of cardiovascular disease, stroke and hip fracture were delayed five years, total U.S. health care cost savings could equal $89 billion annually.
While the addition of a multi vitamin would benefit most people, different additional supplements should be chosen based on the specific life stage, gender or lifestyle of the individual. For example, though calcium is generally important for all men and women, it is particularly critical for children building bone mass and elderly people seeking to preserve it.
Things to remember when taking supplements
Vitamins are organic compounds used by the body in small amounts for various metabolic processes.
Vitamin supplements can't replace a healthy diet.
Those who may need vitamin supplements include pregnant and lactating women, people who consume alcohol in amounts over those recommended as safe, drug users and the elderly.
When taking vitamins try to take a natural brand that follows all of the FDA guidelines.
