Following a routine:
Following a routine would assist us to sleep better because of our sleep cycle. 1 sleep-cycle contains 4 stages of sleep with the last stage being the REM rapid eye movement sleep, which is the easiest to wake up.
Getting up before or after REM sleep would make you very drowsy and not rested. The former happens because you have not completed 1 cycle, the latter because of the halting of a new cycle. Now, not all of us would enjoy the 'correct' sleep cycle. If you suffer from insomnia, chances are, you might have a disrupted cycle. So, we need to 'persuade' your sleep-cycle on when is the right time to sleep and wake.

Here come the candy canes. In our house, Santa always hung Hershey's Kisses on the tree. Red and Green M&Ms cohabitate with the micro-Reese's peanut butter cups in the candy dish. The holiday season is an excuse for saturating your house with sugar in all its forms.
And you want to be festive. You don't want to be a Scrooge about things. But you also know that if it makes it in the door, you will eat it.
The Short Term Problem
Sugar not only provides needless calories for your expanding horizons, but also destabilizes your insulin levels – a result that can lead to overweight, obesity, and even diabetes.
Remember that sugar is not the problem. Overconsumption of sugar is the problem. There is nothing wrong with sugar per se, only when you eat it as a jelly doughnut chased with a soda and a candy cane!
The Long Term Problem
Sugar consumption leads to more sugar consumption. Anyone with a weight problem will recognize the slippery slope this can become – the more you eat, the more you want to eat. This is so deadly for your weight, leading straight into a spiral that circles the weight gain drain.
For your house.
Ban the sugar bomb. Don't even bring it inside. If you need to have nibbles about, use unsalted nuts or fruit. Remember fruit? Apples come in single serving sizes, wrapped in a handy, edible, holiday colored packaging! Tangerines are fabulous to have around. If you have guests over, set a few olives out. They are so great for you, and you can't take 27 of them in your hand and down them all at once.
For your weight.
If you do find your house with candies about, you have got to make it your policy to eat only one of them at a time. One M&M? Yes. One mint? Yes. Eat one and walk away to do something else. Learn this habit and burn it in. This will save you a ton of calories.
For your health.
Remember that brown sugar is better for you than white sugar. So if you do use it, darker is better. If you do have chocolate, darker is better because it has more cocoa and less sugar. Remember that fruit, although it has sugar, also has the fiber that lowers the glycemic index of the juice. In other words, it doesn't just make you tired and hungry like plain sugar can.

Holidays have the potential to send an adult with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) into overload. Too many details to plan, kids to manage, and family to cope with can turn a good day into a stressful one. The following suggestion can help adults manage ADD during the holidays.
1. Know Your Own ADD and Plan Ahead to Deal with It
You know yourself better than anyone, so ask yourself "How does my ADD affect me on the holidays?" Make a list of all the things that tend to stress you out on the holidays, and make a plan to deal with them.
Do you tend to say impulsive things that you later regret? Plan to take a deep breath before answering questions, so that you can think about your words before you speak them.
Do hyper kids overwhelm? Plan to excuse yourself and take a brief walk when the kids are so noisy that you can't think straight.
Does a family member really make you mad when s/he starts nagging or becomes critical? Plan a simple response that won't fuel the fire, like "I'm sorry you feel that way. I'd rather talk about a great book I'm reading right now."
Do you get antsy after a long day? Plan to end the day early, so that you don't reach the point of irritability.
2. Don't Expect Perfection
Accept that the day won't be perfect. Nothing is! Whether you are hosting the holiday, going to a friend or family member's, or visiting a restaurant, realize that something is bound to go wrong. That's life. Don't hold it against yourself, or the people around you. Whatever it is, do your best to move on and let it go.
3. Ask For Help/Accept Help
If you're hosting the holiday, ask for help in the kitchen. This is perfectly acceptable, and most people are happy to help out where they can. If you're offered help, accept it with gratitude! You don't have to do it all on your own.
If you're a guest, offer to take over a task that you're good at or don't mind doing. That doesn't necessarily mean offering to cook or serve, it can mean keeping the kids occupied! (Or, in my family, keeping the dogs out of the kitchen!)
4. Remember That People Do The Best They Can
Long days with family members can often end in frustration and hurt feelings. Try to remember that people do the best they can with the skills and tools they have. Hurtful comments probably aren't meant to be hurtful. If someone says something to you that you find hurtful or offensive, ask yourself "What is this person's intention?" The answer will most likely be "to be helpful." Don't hold it against friends and family members who may not have the necessary skills to express themselves effectively.
Set the tone for those around you by being positive, smiling often, and enjoying yourself!

Being hearing impaired can be a real challenge in the workplace. The biggest problem is that few understand the problem, and usually the person with the hearing impairment is hesitative to admit the fact.
When in one on one situation things may be just fine, especially there is little background noise. In a crowd situation the hearing impaired person may hear, but not understand, 50% or more of what is said. It can be very frustrating in meetings etc.
Sound is made up of Frequency and Volume measured in decibels. In the ear that sound is converted to electrical impulses to the brain. Many things can happen to keep the sound from reaching the brain.
Say some one says the letter "A". That "A" is made of the frequency determined by that person's voice box and the loudness that he speaks. That sound goes out into the room and mixes with the noise in the room. A person with normal hearing in both ears has little problem understanding the letter "A".
But a person that has hearing in one ear only, cannot determine where that sound comes from. And the brain has to work twice as hard to process that sound.
It is a matter of information. With two ears twice the information available to the brain.
Same with someone that has a hearing loss the percentage of hearing loss, for whatever reason, reduces the amount of information available to the brain to process.
A normal ear may process the sound of the letter "A" with this much information, 0110110110011011 to the brain while the damaged ear may only send this much, ------11011---------, so the brain has to look for more clues as to what that information really represents.
If you will notice a person with hearing loss does everything possible to gather clues or information to help in the hearing process. Some of the things are: Looking at your face or lips while you talk. Turning their head so that the good ear is facing the speaker Cupping the ear with the hand
Remember even a hearing aid does not work as well as a normal functioning ear.

Like the arteries, veins and capillaries that transport blood through our bodies, our bodies also contains an extensive drainage system that returns water and proteins from our tissues back to the bloodstream. Called the lymphatic system, it is part of our immune system and works to defend the body from diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi.
The lymphatic system has two major functions. First, it works to regulate the amount of fluids within our bodies. Secondly, it is responsible for "taking out the trash", that is collecting waste products, such as dead blood cells and pathogens from the interstitial fluid (the fluid that fills the spaces around cells) and filters it before returning it to the bloodstream.
The lymphatic system is made up of lymph vessels that carry lymph, a protein-rich fluid that is transported through the lymph vessels, and lymph nodes which filter out germs and toxins. There are over 100 lymph nodes throughout the body, with the majority of them being located in the neck, groin and armpits. Lymphatic vessels contain valves that prevent the lymph from flowing backwards within the system. Within the lymphatic vessels, lymph is transported through the vessels and moves via the squeezing action of their neighboring skeletal muscles.
When the movement of lymph through the body becomes impaired, it will leak out of the lymphatic capillaries and cause the surrounding tissues to swell. This condition is called lymphedema. Lymphedema occurs when the amount of lymph fluid in the body exceeds the body's ability to transport it. This causes the lymph fluid to accumulate in the tissues, where it causes swelling, particularly of the arms and legs.
There are two types of lymphedema. Doctors don't know what causes Primary Lymphedema, but it can be present at birth, or can develop later on in life. Fortunately, this condition is rare. Secondary Lymphedema is a condition that is not often talked about, but often affects individuals who have undergone surgery, such as cancer surgery where lymph nodes are commonly removed. It can also affect individuals who have undergone radiation therapy, which can damage lymph nodes and cause scar tissue to form ultimately interfering with the flow of lymph. It can also be experienced by individuals who have experienced a severe trauma or infection.
In the initial stages of this chronic condition, Lymphedema often begins with swelling in a hand or foot, particularly the one closest to where the surgery has occurred or radiation therapy has taken place. If left unchecked, the protein-rich lymph can continue to accumulate, leading to increased swelling and a hardening of the tissues. This increases your risk of developing an infection or may interfere or impair the function of the limb.
Lymphedema can develop in any part of the body. If you experience persistent or recurring swelling anywhere in your body, it is important to seek medical advice. Early intervention with this disorder greatly improves the long term outcome of the disease's progression.
Recommendations For Wellness
Avoid rigorous, repetitive movements or heavy lifting.
Women, if your arm is affected, get rid of extra 50 lbs that you carry over your shoulder and trade it in for a purse that has hand straps.
If your arm or leg starts to ache, lie down and elevate it.
Wear loose fitting clothes, jewelry, socks and undergarments that may restrict lymphatic flow.
Wear a compression sleeve or stocking on the affected limb.
Keep your "at risk" limb clean and avoid activities that may irritate or damage the skin. Careful skin care may reduce the risk of lymphedema by helping you to avoid infection.
Massage, particularly lymphatic massage has been shown to help increase lymph drainage. You can do this yourself or work with a qualified massage therapist who has been specially trained in how to perform manual lymph drainage techniques.
Begin a gentle exercise program. Exercise and muscle movement can help drain lymph fluid. (Consult with your doctor prior to beginning any exercise program).
Drink plenty of water. Water is critical for proper lymph drainage.
Echinacea has a long history of improving lymph filtration and drainage.
Garlic is known for being able to stimulate the lymph system to throw off waste materials.
Oregon grape can be used to help reduce the inflammation of the lymphatic system and works to help cleanse the lymph.
Poke Root has been known to help stimulate the body and aid its ability to remove waste materials that may be trapped in the tissues. It can also help improve the elasticity of tissues that may have experienced hardening due to congestion.
Burdock, red clover and mullein are known to thin lymph fluid and enhance lymphatic drainage.
Herbal combinations such as Nature's Sunshine's Lymphatic Drainage, Lymphomax or Lymphostim are designed to stimulate the immune system, fight infections and support the lymphatic system.
