Personal Fitness Goals And Keeping Them

Personal Fitness Goals And Keeping Them
 by: Kevin Doberstein CFT

Fall of last year you figured a donut once in an awhile or some other fat and sugar laden nasty food wouldn't hurt. Your excuse it is the" muscle-bulking season" or you will "work it off". The next thing you know your waist measurement is almost the same size of your chest. You look in the mirror and you see your v-taper look like a square block. You say to your self "what the heck happen to all my hard work in the gym?" Well all of your hard work is still there if you have been training hard, but it is covered in fat. My better half, my wife once asked me when I was expecting? At that moment, I knew it was time to shed the fat.
Well the first thing to do is to make a final personal goal. For example, the abdominal muscles showing by May. But to start you need to start with other goals to build to the main final goal. These could include;
Physical Well Goals. This could be working up to 30 minutes of physical activity daily to start. Light stretching to make the muscles feel good. Maybe adding some sit ups to strengthen the core.
Physique goals. After achieving your physical well goals you can start adding more demanding goals such as reducing your fat percentage. Add aerobic fitness of 30 minutes to your workout schedule. Or maybe start a weight resistance program.
Performance accomplishment goals. This could include small goals in your weight resistance program such as benching a certain amount. Or running the mile in a certain time. This is where you place the goal of seeing your abdominal muscles by May.
Each goal that you set and reach is a stepping stone to your final targeted goal. You could keep a personal diary of your fitness progress and see how far you have come in your health and strength pursuit. I used to put pictures of ab shots on my refrigerator to help keep me focused. Now I also keep a watchful eye in the mirror.
When I drop an inch or two off my waist I reward myself. And not with eating a whole pie or chocolate cake. Usually I buy some kind of hiking gear, camera equipment or clothing.
Make sure you keep a supply of healthy foods around you to help prevent eating some junk food when you do get hungry. Fresh fruit, nuts, non-fat cottage cheese, you get the idea.
When you start your diet don't go crazy eating little to nothing. If you follow this practice you will lose all the muscle you worked so hard to build. I cycle my carbohydrates and protein around my workout days. I eat the carbs during my bodybuilding workout days and carb deplete on non-bodybuilding workout days. I will increase the protein on the nonworkout days.
Here is a summary of the topics above:
Establish small goals to achieve your main personal fitness goal.
Use pictures to keep focused on your main goal.
Reward yourself when you meet your in-between goals.
Drink plenty of water.
Always keep plenty of healthy foods around to snack on.
Don't go crazy dieting.
Make sure that you keep on the right path and you will see your goal of abdominal muscles showing when the warm weather returns. Otherwise your spouse may do like mine and start taking measurements for maternity clothes. Perseverance and focus will help keep you on track of your personal fitness goal.

You Are Getting Very Sleepy...The Truth about Hypnosis

You Are Getting Very Sleepy...The Truth about Hypnosis
 by: Debra S. Gorin, M.D.

A hypnotic "trance" is not something that is foreign to us--we've all been so absorbed in thought while reading a book or watching a movie that we fail to notice what is happening around us. These focused states of attention are similar to hypnosis. Simply put, when our minds are concentrated and focused, we are able to use them more powerfully. In this condition, we can tap into normally unused mental powers to create new possibilities of experience.
People typically experience both mental tranquility and physical relaxation under hypnosis. Various changes in perception are also common under hypnosis. Some people feel great heaviness coming over their bodies, others feel very light or numb. Subjective feelings of floating, sinking, spinning, and tingling sensations are also reported. Contrary to a popular belief, people under hypnosis are neither captive nor spellbound. For the most part, a subject can resist direct instructions that he or she feels will undermine their wishes or compromise his or her moral standards. Still, there are rare cases of misconduct in which hypnosis is deliberately misused by a skilled hypnotist. This is one of several good reasons to seek a reputable professional when it comes to choosing a hypnotherapist. A good guideline for finding a qualified clinical professional is this fact---the only people qualified to treat your mental or physical problems with hypnosis, are those who are also qualified to treat the same problems without hypnosis.
Psychiatrists use hypnosis in treating patients to overcome negative habits, anxiety, phobias and other fears, and depression. They use hypnosis for exploration of the unconscious, to better understand underlying motivations or identify whether or not past events or experiences are associated with causing a problem. Psychiatrists have also had positive results in helping patients control appetite and reduce the levels of drugs necessary in the treatment of chronic illnesses.
Hypnosis, while effective, may not be for everyone. It appears to be of the greatest benefit when a patient is highly motivated to overcome a problem and when the hypnotherapist is well trained in both hypnosis and in general considerations relating to the treatment of the particular problem. Also, some patients seem to have higher native hypnotic "talent" (increased suggestibility) and capacity which may allow them to benefit more readily from hypnosis.
Hypnosis can be a powerful tool for healing—so powerful that it can completely remove or distract people from feeling pain. For this reason it is important that a physician or other state-licensed medical or psychological specialist assess the underlying medical or psychological condition prior to hypnosis. Also, because there is no medical degree required for the practice of hypnotherapy, persons wishing to undergo hypnosis should make certain that the therapist is well trained. This bears repeating: it is safest to look for a hypnotherapist who is a licensed professional in a field where hypnotherapy is part of their normal practice, such as psychiatrists (MD's) and psychologists. It is essential to check credentials and background when choosing a hypnotherapist.
Finally, it is important to keep in mind that hypnosis is like any other therapeutic treatment: it is of major benefit to some patients with certain problems, and it is helpful with many other patients, but it can fail, just like any other clinical method. For this reason, trained clinical hypnotherapists emphasize that they are not "hypnotists,", but instead health care professionals who use hypnosis along with the other tools of their professions.

Healthy Chocolate for Your Valentine

Healthy Chocolate for Your Valentine
 by: Debra Lynn Dadd

Let's face it. We're all going to eat chocolate for Valentine's Day. But there's no need to feel guilty! Chocolate is actually good for you…it's all the things added to it that are the problem. Here's how you can choose delicious healthy chocolates for your Valentine.
HEALTH BENEFITS
The gift of chocolate to a beloved as a token of love is more than just tradition. Naturally-occurring compounds in chocolate produce that mild euphoria of being in love and contribute to enjoyable interpersonal relations by elevating mood and enhancing sensory perception.
Beyond good feelings, chocolate benefits the body in many ways. In moderation, chocolate can contribute to heart health, help you live longer, suppress a chronic cough, and add needed magnesium to your diet. Chocolate even contains a high level of chromium, which can help control blood sugar.
Chocolate does NOT cause acne, most headaches, or hyperactivity, and does not raise cholesterol.
HEALTH PROBLEMS
While chocolate itself is fine to eat, there are some substances present in chocolate products that you should watch out for.
Most chocolate products contain tremendous amounts of refined white sugar, which is harmful to health in many ways.
Chocolate may also contain pesticides. The EPA allows various levels of pesticide residue to be present in cocoa powder, and the FDA Total Diet Study found them in many chocolate products.
Many chocolates also contain the toxic metals cadminum and lead. "Significant levels" of these metals were found in 68% of the common chocolate products tested. There is no safe level for lead, and it is particularly harmful to children.
HEALTHY CHOCOLATE CHOICES
Here are some guidelines for choosing the healthiest chocolates.
Choose chocolates with the least amount of refined white sugar or other sweetener. Dark "bittersweet" chocolates with a high percentage of cocoa solids (usually the label will state the exact percentage) have less sugar than semisweet or milk chocolate and also have the greatest health benefits. Keep in mind that flavor additions, such as dried fruits and candied ginger may also add sugar to the chocolate.
Choose chocolates sweetened with evaporated cane juice or barley malt. If the evaporated cane juice used is the unprocessed whole juice of the cane, it acts in the body like a whole food and doesn't give a sugar rush. Barley malt is also a slow-release sweetener, noted on the label as "grain-sweetened."
Choose organic chocolates. Certified organic chocolate ensures there are no harmful pesticide residues.
Make your own chocolates. It's easy to make many chocolate delights yourself, with the exact ingredients you want. Start with unsweetened cocoa powder or baking chocolate and be creative!
SAVOR YOUR CHOCOLATE
Fine chocolate is one of those earthly pleasures to be savored. When eaten as a special treat, with full appreciation, a little chocolate can go a long way.
Choose quality over quantity. If you are going to eat chocolate, eat really good chocolate. Then, for maximum enjoyment, give the taste of the chocolate your full attention, eat it at a time when you are not famished or overly full, and allow the chocolate to melt in your mouth to make the experience last.

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice
 by: Jayachandran.R

Ayurveda - Principles & Practice

This was followed by the Aryans & Dravidians who were inhabiting India and has been practiced ever since. In the 21st century, Ayurveda has become an indispensable branch of medicine due to its naturalistic approach, that depends on the diagnosis of ones physical base ie Vata, pitta and kabha, and to maintain a right balance.

Why Do We Get Fever?

Why Do We Get Fever?
 by: Granny's Mettle

God provided us with an ingenious body that knows what to do when something unwelcome invades it. As an animal must defend itself against enemies, so does our body fight bacteria or viruses when they try to occupy our system.
The normal body temperature of a healthy man is 98.4 degrees Fahrenheit. When bacteria, viruses, or even fungi, invade our body it usually results to an infection. When our body gets infected, its natural response is to activate cells in the immune system. These cells are called white blood cells. When they are activated, they fight these bacteria in many ways, one of which is to raise the body temperature. That's when you have a fever.
When the virus or bacteria enters the body system, they produce toxins that can directly set the body's temperature up. Meanwhile, these toxins also trigger the white blood cells to emit substances that can also increase the body temperature.
Fever then, fights off toxins when we are sick. Toxins are usually weaker than normal cells and have low tolerance to heat. When we start to sweat because of the fever, our body starts to detoxify from the viruses, tumors and other toxic cells that caused the infection. Moreover, blood circulation and respiration increases during fever. Both these processes help the body fight off the poisonous germs present in our body when we have infection.
However, fever that is persistent for a longer period of time is not good. There is a tendency for a disorder to set in the brain when the temperature continues to be high. It is therefore a big mistake to ignore fever.
So at the first signs of chills, loss of appetite, and a feeling of weakness, don't delay. It is our body's way of telling us that we are sick. It's time to go to the doctor for a dose of medical treatment and tender loving care.

Pet Food - What.s Wrong with a Commercial Diet?

Pet Food - What's Wrong with a Commercial Diet?
 by: Grant Segall

Commercial dog food has only been around since the 1930s when cereal companies were trying to find something to do with their rejected grain their wheat and rice and corn that failed USDA inspection, usually because of mold. They discovered that the meat industry faced the same problem. Leftover meat not fit for human consumption, usually because the livestock was diseased.
This gave birth to the idea of mixing the rejects together, calling it "pet food", and making big profits off of it. Smart advertising planted this term in the public's mind, but your dog was never intended to get his nutrition from a bag or can, especially filled with this stuff. It's not "dog food" -- it's an artificial diet created for the benefit of the grain and meat industries and the pet food corporations.
Virtually all-artificial diets are heavily based on grains and cereals. But dogs are not cows. A dog has a short straight digestive tract meant to digest meat and protein. Grains and cereals are carbohydrates that require a longer digestive tract. Think of a cow's several stomachs and its long winding digestive tract.
Even worse, many dogs are allergic to so much grain and cereal. They develop chronic digestive problems, or itchy skin characterized by foot licking or face-rubbing. You might never think to associate these skin problems with the grains and cereals in your dog's artificial diet. Finally, the quality of these grains and cereals is terrible. Virtually every pet food company uses grains and cereals that cannot pass USDA inspection.
*Cooking for Your Dog*
An all-natural home-cooked diet is the right food you have a dog with chronic, long-term problems. If your Golden Retriever is really a mess, forget the commercial foods completely and put him on one of the homemade diets. There are several, and one of the best is the natural diet. However, many of them rely too heavily on starches potatoes, grains and beans so be careful. You're trying to move toward a meat-based diet for your dog.
All the homemade diets depend on raw meat so don't be afraid of feeding it this way. However, when your animals are in poor condition or ill, feeding raw foods in such situation is critical as they contain enzymes, bacteria. If you doubt that vegetables are 'alive', consider this if you plant a raw potato, it will grow and reproduce. If you plant a cooked one, it will rot in the ground. Raw foods are 'alive' in some way that cooked foods are not.

Surviving in the Hospital (Available medical technology to help you survive)

Surviving in the Hospital (Available medical technology to help you survive)
 by: Granny's Mettle

More than having a comfortable, temporary residence in the hospital, it is important that one not only survive but come out of the hospital, alive and whole.
According to a study, medical errors in hospitals cause more deaths each year than vehicle accidents, cancer or even AIDS. A recent study reported that there are up to 100,000 deaths each year caused by medical mistakes. Hence, medical mistakes are reported as the eighth leading cause of death among Americans.
The causes of medical mistakes are many and varied. They can arise from the physician, specialist, hospital administration, nursing staff, pharmacists, and many other places. The type of medical mistakes also varies. These include misdiagnosis, medication errors, surgery errors, laboratory test errors, and administrative errors.
With the onset of cosmetic surgery, there have been many cases where patients come out of the hospital worse than when they entered. Even so-called minor operations are not without risks anymore.
According to ABC7, one patient was supposed to have a common surgery to fix a hernia. But because of a series of mistakes, he found himself in a situation that nearly cost him his life. The patient was supposed to have his blood vessel cauterized as part of the procedure. However, one of the interns failed to do so. They then punctured his spleen. Then they had to get the blood out of the lung cavity. But by doing so, they caused the patient's lung to collapse instead.
In an effort to reduce errors, some hospitals turned to technology. Instead of using the traditional recording of communication, hospitals nowadays utilize electronic record.
Computers are also common sights in hospitals. Nearly everyone uses a computer. Doctors have portable stations where new and old medical records can be accessed with just a click of the mouse.
Aside from a system of electronic checks and balances, pharmacy mistakes are reduced with the presence of bar-codes in all drugs and paraphernalia.
Armbands are also introduced. Nurses are now able to scan the patients' armband and match it with the electronic record, thus, reducing errors.
Despite technology's assistance, it is still advised that patients should not rely solely on technology. Doctors recommend that the patients themselves should be responsible enough to check their own record and ask their physicians hard questions beforehand.
Knowing the extent of your illness, surgery and operation might just be the ticket to saving your own life.

The Benefits of Green Tea

The Benefits of Green Tea
 by: Granny's Mettle

Green tea's popularity in the United States continues to grow as the number of new medical studies increase, showing that green tea is a rich and natural source of antioxidants. These antioxidants help protect the body from accelerated ageing and increased risk of major diseases.
Medical Benefits:
Among the many medical benefits of green tea, here are a few diseases that green tea is reputably able to prevent from occurring: (1) cancer, (2) rheumatoid arthritis, (3) high cholesterol, (4) cardiovascular disease, (5) infection, and (6) impaired immune function.
The last ten years have seen the wide support of green tea's cancer-preventive effects from various medical studies and research. Many studies have shown that green tea possesses antioxidant properties. In a study published in November 2004, in an issue of Mutation Research, it was found out that the leaves' effects are 120% stronger than those of vitamin C. In addition, it helps starve cancer by inhibiting the development of new blood vessels. The blood vessels are known to supply the cancer cells with nutrients. Without them, cancer cells would not be able to increase its strength, thus, reducing its effect on the body.
In 1994, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published results of a study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly 60%. On the other hand, researchers from the University of Purdue made conclusions from their study that a compound in green tea reduces the growth of cancer cells. In addition, another research indicated its effects of lowering total cholesterol levels, as well as improve the growth of good cholesterol in the body.
Green tea is also known to lower blood pressure and helps prevent hypertension. In a study published in an issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, it was found out that among persons consuming tea regularly for at least one year, the risk of developing high blood pressure was 46% lower among those who drank Ѕ cup to 2 Ѕ cups per day. And for those consuming more than 2 Ѕ cups per day, there is 65% less risk.
Other Benefits:
• Promotes weight loss- There are new evidence that green tea can help dieters. The leaves of green tea plants help raise metabolism in the body. Researchers found during a study that men who were given green tea extract with caffeine burned more calories than those given only caffeine. By increasing the amount of calories burned in a 24 hour period, green tea promotes weight loss.
• Prevent tooth decay and bad breath- Green tea can help prevent tooth decay by destroying bacteria that causes dental plaque. Meanwhile, in a recent study in the University of Illinois, researchers have discovered that an element found in green tea decreases the growth of odor-causing bacteria by 30%. They say that drinking a cup or two of green tea may help maintain fresh breath.
• Reduce smoking risks- Studies have shown that cigarette smokers who drink up to six cups of green tea daily reduces their susceptibility to risks caused by the toxins emitted in cigarette smoke. In a 1997 study in the University of Kansas, they were able to conclude that green tea may be the reason why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, despite 75% of them are smokers.
• Beauty remedy- Green tea may be used to freshen up the face and sooth tired or strained eyes. It can be applied to spots and blemishes to lessen their visibility. Meanwhile, beauty remedies containing green tea (such as deodorants and creams) are finding their way in the market.
• Antiseptic properties- Green tea is also known to treat minor cuts and rashes, and is an effective treatment for sunburn.

Super Bowl Harbinger of Problem Drinking

Super Bowl Harbinger of Problem Drinking
 by: David Westbrook

17.6 million American adults are either alcohol dependent or abuse alcohol. According to the recently released 2001-2002
National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions, alcohol dependence - particularly among men - has decreased; however, rates of alcohol abuse have increased.
Super Bowl Sunday has long been associated with over consumption of alcohol and the problems of alcohol abuse. Mothers Against Drunk Driving has compiled statistics for Super Bowl day alcohol related driving fatalities every year since 1999. These statistics show that an average Super Bowl Sundays see 55.4% increase in alcohol related traffic fatalities over other days of the year.
Part of the problem may be that imbibing alcohol is encouraged during the Super Bowl. Nearly 20% of the commercials, 10 out of 58, aired during Super Bowl XXXIX will advertise Anheuser-Busch products. Last year Anheuser-Busch's commercials were among both the most controversial and popular.
Also promoting Super Bowl alcohol consumption, About.com's football writer James Alder, whose goal is to, "provide you with all the necessary resources every serious football fan needs...," offers Super Bowl party recipes for alcoholic Jello shots, including instructions in how to make them stronger.
SOBERnet, a website on alcohol abuse and alcoholim, offers an alternative recipe for a successful Super Bowl party at www.sobernet.us
Serve alternative nonalcoholic drinks. Have a key check, and don't let party goers drive drunk. Provide transportation via a designated non-drinking driver or taxi. Plan post game activities, as only time can help someone sober up. And, don't drink and drive.

Causes of Bad Breath: New Research Reveals True Cause

Causes of Bad Breath: New Research Reveals True Cause
 by: Whozylee Aris

What Causes Bad Breath:
Three Leading Factors Did you know:
1. Medications (including allergy medications) cause bad breath
2. Alcoholic beverages cause bad breath
3. Mouthwash with alcohol causes bad breath
4. Smoking causes bad breath
5. Dry mouth causes bad breath
The fact is that everyday common over-the-counter hygiene products, beverages an medications can be the "mysterious" cause of your bad breath! Medications and alcohol dry out the mouth, creating less saliva which leads to less oxygen in the mouth. This combination creates the perfect breeding ground for the Anaerobic Sulfur-Producing Bacteria that cause bad breath. In short simple terms, oral bacteria cause bad breath. Think of your breath in the morning, probably not top-notch. At night your mouth is at rest and drier than in waking hours, so bacteria grow. Upon waking you're greeted with "morning breath." Likewise, when you are sick and congested, possibly breathing out of your mouth, you probably noticed your breath smells. This is caused by dry mouth which creates bacteria which causes bad breath.
How do I Avoid the Bacteria That Causes Bad Breath?
Bad breath is caused by excessive bacteria in the mouth. Scientific study and clinical research on bacteria has helped experts discover why bacteria causes bad breath and how to best eliminate it. Surprisingly, those commercials and ads that tell us to pop a mint or use a mouth wash to deal with bad breath are always accurate. In fact many of the mints and washes people use to combat bad breath, actually cause bad breath or make it worse. How so? The bacteria that cause bad breath live and breed beneath the tongue's surface, on the tonsils and in the throat, not on the surface where it can be scraped or brushed off or dissolved with a wash or mint. Instead of getting rid of bad breath, many of these products contain alcohol which dries out the mouth creating a more favorable environment for these odorous bacteria to grow.
Does Food Cause Bad Breath?
You bet your garlic breadsticks they do. Certain foods like garlic and onions can cause bad breath because they contain the same compounds, previously discussed, that create bad breath. If you regularly consume these foods, it can create higher amounts of bacteria and lead to halitosis. The catch is that the Anaerobic Sulfur-Producing Bacteria that can cause bad breath are in everyone's mouth, because they are needed to assist in breaking down proteins in certain foods. Researchers are still searching for a reason why some people are prone to develop more of the beneficial bacteria, which in bulk are no longer beneficial because they cause bad breath.
The Secret to Getting Rid of Bad Breath (halitosis) is...
To truly eliminate the cause of bad breath you must eliminate the odorous bacteria by converting them to non-odorous volatile sulfur compounds. Okay, sounds complicated, right? In other words, make sure you are using the right type of bad breath eliminator to do the job for you. This cannot be done with mouthwashes or mints. These give your mouth a strong taste, which then leads you to believe if your mouth tastes "medicated" or minty, then your breath must smell good.

How Pain Serves as Your Body's Warning Signal

How Pain Serves as Your Body's Warning Signal
 by: Vicki Rackner, MD

Pain is like the warning lights on your car's dashboard. It alerts you to something that needs investigation. Pain serves an important function. It's your body's way of saying, "Pay attention."
We all avoid pain. You wouldn't knowingly slam your thumb in the car door or touch a hot stove. It's human nature to avoid situations that cause pain, and we do what we can to rid ourselves of the pain as soon as possible -- such as taking an aspirin for a minor headache.
When your pain is severe enough, or worrisome enough -- or lasts long enough -- you find yourself in your doctor's office. Then, ideally, you and your doctor figure out what's causing the pain and fix the underlying cause. The most satisfying encounters for both you and your doctor occur when the pain points to a clear diagnosis; you're treated and the disease is cured. A good example is a cough and pain in the chest when taking a deep breath leading to the diagnosis of pneumonia that is cured with antibiotics. But not all pain is solved that easily.
Each of us tolerates pain differently -- even pain from the same cause. Surprisingly, the patient who would complain the most bitterly when we injected a local anesthetic that tended to burn a little was not the frail 80-year-old grandmother, it was the strapping 25-year-old body builder who said he "wasn't afraid of nothin." Those are also the patients most likely to faint when blood was taken.
As a surgeon, I did many "lumps and bumps" operations. Depending on the patient's tolerance for pain, I could perform the procedure in my office or in the operating room, where, among other things, sedation was available. It usually was clear whether a procedure could be done in the office or required the support of the operating room staff.
Then there were the judgment calls. It could go either way. If I looked at the top of a patient's head and saw orange or red, the patient would go to the operating room. My experience supports the thinking that redheads are more sensitive to pain.
How do you get pain to move from "pay attention"' to "problem fixed?"
Your doctor needs help from you when your "pain light" flashes on. There is no way your doctor can measure your pain. Sure we can check your heart rate, which tends to beat faster if you're in pain, or your blood pressure, which also rises. Clues like a fever or a high white blood cell count that can point to the cause of the pain; they don't measure your experience of the pain.
Only you know what your pain feels like.
Sometimes the cause of the pain can be identified before the doctor even sees you. The broken bone on an X-ray, abnormal blood thyroid level or malignant prostate cells on a pathology slide speak for themselves. Sometimes tests will show what is not causing the pain: a normal EKG usually means that your chest pain is not from a heart attack, and a normal breast exam, mammogram and breast ultrasound suggest that breast pain is not caused by breast cancer.
No test can exclude a medical condition with 100 percent certainty. Or in medical lingo, tests can have "false negatives" -- meaning you have the condition even though the test says you don't. This is another reason you want your doctor to perform a complete evaluation, and not just make a diagnosis over the telephone.
Sometimes there are measurable findings that explain the cause of the pain, but we do not know why. We doctors even have fancy ways of saying, "We have no idea what's causing it."
My patient Paul was in a panic when he read about his "idiopathic pancreatitis" in his medical record. This means that he had inflammation of his pancreas that we could see on a CAT scan, yet we don't know why his pancreas became inflamed. The two most common causes of pancreatitis are gallstones and alcohol use. Paul didn't have gallstones and he never drank. He was not at risk for numbers of other uncommon causes of pancreatitis. So why the pain?
The good news for Paul is that there was a way of explaining what was happening, and the diagnosis guided treatment. The bad news for him is that in the absence of knowing why he got pancreatitis, there was very little we could tell him to prevent further attacks. Ask anyone who's had a bout of pancreatitis and they will tell you that's not something they ever want to go through again.
It's easy to lose sight of the fact that pain is there to serve you. Pain is not the problem. Finding out what's causing the pain is the challenge.
The key for you and your doctor is to eliminate the pain, but not ignore the message the pain is bringing. You might get medication to treat heartburn and your pain will go away, but you may overlook the stress at work that's causing the heartburn. It's like putting tape over the dashboard in your car so you won't get distracted by the flashing red trouble lights.
What do you do when you have pain that can't be explained by a lab test or X-ray or any changes your doctor can see or feel or hear when examining you? This can be a frustrating situation, both for you and your doctor. If you have ever had a headache or backache or the heartache of depression, you are most likely nodding your head.
My advice is to become a medical detective. Find things to measure and describe with numbers and keep a log. Here are some measures to write down: Rate your pain on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 is the worst ever) Duration of episode (minutes/hours) Number of episodes per day Amount of sleep Stress level (1 to 10) Medication taken that day
You might have hunches about what's causing the pain or making it better. It might be what you eat, or your physical activity or the weather. This can become part of your log and a springboard for discussion with your doctor.
The next time you experience pain, listen to the voice that tells you that pain is the enemy. Then remind yourself that your pain is also your friend.
It's there to draw your attention to an important message if you will only listen.

Suffering From Hypoglycemia?

Suffering From Hypoglycemia?
 by: Shannon Lueck

WHAT IS HYPOGLYCEMIA?
Hypoglycemia is an abnormally low level of glucose (sugar) in the blood. This can be caused by a sudden rise in glucose in the blood due to sweets and other sweeteners. This then leads to a sudden drop once the sweets or sweeteners are no longer in the blood system. Too much insulin released into the blood system can also cause it. Diabetes on the other hand is just the opposite and is an abnormally high level of glucose (sugar) in the blood.
Learn more about hypoglycemia at:
Hypoglycemia Website
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN EXACTLY?
When someone is suffering from a hypoglycemic attack, the glucose level in the body is too low to effectively fuel the body's blood cells. Since all the cells of the body, especially the brain cells, use glucose for fuel, a blood glucose level that is too low starves the cells of needed fuel, causing both physical and emotional symptoms.
The normal range of blood sugar is approximately 60 to 120 mg/dl (milligrams of glucose per deciliter of blood). When the level is below 45 mg/dl, a serious condition is suspected.
Hypoglycemia may be a condition by itself, or may be a complication of diabetes or other disorders. It is most often seen as a complication of diabetes (due to the fact that many doctors don't recognize hypoglycemia without diabetes as true illness), which is sometimes referred to as insulin reaction.
SYMPTOMS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA
The following are the most common symptoms of hypoglycemia. However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. In most cases, the symptoms will go away once you eat (especially if you eat sweets). Eating sweets however is not the best way to deal with hypoglycemia.
THESE SYMPTOMS INCLUDE (but are not limited to): · Headaches · Dizziness · Uncontrollable cravings · Inner trembling · Body feels weak · Fatigue · Sudden moodiness or behavior changes, such as crying for no apparent reason · A craving for sweets · Cold hands and feet · Forgetfulness · Blurred vision · Irritability · Shakiness · Sudden hunger · Crying spells · Insomnia · Mental Confusion · Nervousness · Faintness · Depression · Heart Palpitations · Family history of low blood sugar or diabetes · Exhaustion · Low libido (sex drive) · Inability to concentrate · Waking up tired and exhausted · Indecisiveness · PMS or premenstrual syndrome
AM I HYPOGLYCEMIC?
How do you know if you are hypoglycemic or not? Is there anyway to test to see if you are?
What amazes me is that the answer is no. There is no standard way to test for hypoglycemia (although a small amount of doctors use a glucose test).
According to recent research, it is estimated that there are close to 100 million people in the United Sates alone that are suffering from hypoglycemia and many of them don't know it. With that many possible cases, wouldn't you think that they'd come up with a way to test for the disease?
If you are suffering from any or many of the symptoms listed above, yes, you COULD be hypoglycemic.
You should consult your doctor to rule out any other possible diseases, but don't allow the doctor to take over. You must be proactive in your approach and go with your gut feeling if the doctors tell you that you're fine.

How to Effectively Juice a Fruit

How to Effectively Juice a Fruit
 by: Paul Hood

Choosing the right tool for your juicing needs is crucial to maximizing the healthy benefits of your fruits. Like any other task, making a juice requires the use of appropriate device and techniques. It is without a doubt that juices enhance the body's overall performance and it is very essential for us to have an adequate supply of it.
There are different types of juicers that have different levels of performance and choosing which one is the best is very important. Of course you'd want a juicer that delivers all the natural juice goodness and flavor you demand. More so, it also would be wise to have a juicer that that can handle any fruit, vegetable, leafy green, herb, or grass that you could ever want to juice. Versatility is a very vital issue that has to be considered in choosing the right equipment.
Bestjuicer.com lists the three types of juicers as follows:
The Masticating machine operates at a slower speed. It chews the fibers and breaks up the cells of vegetables and fruits. This gives you more fiber, enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals. It also is more versatile because in addition to extracting juices, the unit homogenizes making baby foods, sauces, nut butters, banana ice creams and fruit sorbets. An optional grain mill attachment is available for grinding grains into flour.
The Centrifugal machine first grinds the fruit and vegetables then pushes them through the strainer by spinning at a very high rpm (similar to your washing machine on the spin cycle). This method usually yields a little more volume of juice
The Triturating (twin gear) machine, which turns at a slower rpm, has a two step process. The first step crushes the fruits and vegetables, while the second step wrings or presses the juice. This process gives you more fiber, enzymes, vitamins and trace minerals. These juicers also have magnetic and bio-ceramic technology that slows down the oxidation process, which is good if you want to make and store your juice.
It should be taken into consideration though when choosing your juicer the oxidation levels being churned out by each machine. A good choice would be the one the produce the smallest amount of oxidation and those that make the highest nutrient juice.

Reduce Smoking Risks: Green Tea can help!

Reduce Smoking Risks: Green Tea can help!
 by: Lala Balattan

In an article, "The Irreversible Health Effects of Cigarette Smoking", Paul H. Brodish, MSPH of the American Council on Science and Health defined irreversible health effect as a permanent change in the structure and/or function of an organ system or a permanently increased risk of suffering from a disease or some other threat to health. Thus, in Brodish' article, he does not expound on the diseases and health problems which may be encountered by a cigarette smoker, but rather, he goes on to enumerate that at least five years of smoking cigarettes may have permanent effect on the lungs, the heart, the eyes, the throat, the urinary tract, the digestive organs, the bones and joints, and the skin - even if the smoker quits... WHOA!
Dear readers, I would not like to frighten you into pouncing on the nearest cigarette smoker you encounter and scaring them into quitting. Nor would I like to make enemies of cigarette smokers. This article is written under good intentions for the benefit of CIGARETTE SMOKERS. YES INDEED! This article is for you!
As such, I opened my topic by giving a realistic view for all of us on the effects of our favorite vice. Upon taking up the habit of smoking or even, the 'need' of smoking, we know about its dangers and ill effects. As we continue to go on smoking, we wholly accept the responsibility of whatever may affect our mental, physical and emotional capacities. It's indeed a risk we have to take in order to continue the joys of smoking.
Now here's the catch --- the ill effects and dangers of smoking advertised even in the very packets of cigarettes and tobacco, can be greatly reduced! Through a variety of researches, there is a new health product which may greatly reduce smoking risk. I endeavor to introduce Green Tea Plus! Due to Green Tea Plusґ super concentration, it has over 90% polyphenols and 72 trace minerals, not found in regular green tea. 1 serving of green tea plus = up to 10 cups of regular green tea.
Numerous studies have shown that Green Tea can help reduce your cancer and cardiovascular risk. Green tea can boost your immune system by fighting free radicals. AND HERE'S THE BEST NEWS --- cigarette smokers who drink up to six cups of green tea daily suffer 40 to 50 percent less damage from the toxins caused by cigarette smoke! Thus, reducing the damage caused by these toxins, the risk of cancer, emphysema, cardiovascular disease and other illnesses can be substantially decreased at the same time greatly reducing the effects of cigarette toxins on your important organ systems.
Bad Breath as an effect of cigarette smoking? No problem! Drink Green Tea to keep your breath smelling fresh. Researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry have discovered that polyphenols, found in green tea, inhibit the growth of an odor-causing bacterium by 30%. They say drinking a cup or two of green tea a day may help maintain fresh breath, especially if you are without a toothbrush!

So Many Quit Before Hiring a Certified Personal Trainer!

So Many Quit Before Hiring a Certified Personal Trainer!
 by: Gerald DeClouet Jr.

Every year millions of people decide to make fitness goals. Their intentions are good. No one really wants to be overweight for health reasons. By the end of the month, most individuals will quit their fitness goals. The reasons run from the popular "I don't have enough time in my schedule to exercise." to "I am just big boned. It runs in my family." The truth is that the USA is leading the world in obesity. Our children are now being diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders. The insurance agencies are spending millions and millions of dollars to address obesity related ailments and treatments. Obesity will soon overtake all of us if we are not careful about our eating habits and physical activity.
To lose weight, you must have a caloric expenditure that is greater than what you are consuming in food. If your caloric intake is greater than your caloric expenditure, it will lead to a storage of excess calories (Fat). What exactly does this mean to me as a consumer? It means that you must become physically active to elevate your metabolism. Foods that are high in fats tend to be stored since your body burns carbohydrates first as a primary fuel source. It can be as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Walking during your lunch hour. Performing an exercise video tape in the morning or evening. All of these are good solutions in addition to changing your eating habits.
A excellent place to start would be to hire a certified personal trainer. A certified personal trainer is an individual who is has met standards set by a nationally recognized organization. This is important to you as a consumer. You check to see if a physician is credentialed, so why not a personal trainer also? With a certified personal trainer, you will have access to their expertise on training techniques, problem solving, comprehensive assessments, and professional service. This can be the difference between getting good fitness results and becoming frustrated for life. So the next time you reach a plateau or just don't know where to start to get into shape, try a certified personal trainer before quitting.

Pharmaceuticals: The Next Frontier in America's War on Drugs

Pharmaceuticals: The Next Frontier in America's War on Drugs
 by: David Westbrook

America's war on drugs, which has been fought in the opium fields of Afghanistan and the cocaine plantations of Columbia, will have to reinvent itself to combat what is set to be America's biggest drug abuse problem, pharmaceuticals. One in five American's, nearly 48 million, have used prescription drugs for non-medical purposes at least once in their lives. The current past month misuse rate among Americans is 6.2 million. According to a recent white paper by Carnevale Associates, this rate of use is already higher than the historical highs of both cocaine and heroin epidemics.
For some, the road to illicit use of prescription medications starts innocently. After a car accident, back injury, or, even, a mental/emotional breakdown a physician prescribes medication for a legitimate use. Over time, tolerance builds up so that more and more of the drug is needed until a state of dependence is reached. At this point, there is no easy way to get off the drug, and stopping can involve painful withdrawal symptoms. Some doctors have been known to become afraid and cut their patients off at this point. Patients have been known to steal prescription pads, or visit numerous doctors to get the drugs they have become addicted to.
However, contrary to popular belief, it is not older adults or any adults who are most likely to abuse pharmaceuticals. In the past decade, abuse of prescription meds among youth has been growing at an alarming first-time use rate of more than fifty percent each year. In 2002, the latest year for which there are statistics, approximately 2.5 million American's misused prescriptions for the first time and 44% of them were under the age of 18.
Unfortunately, as the media fixes its gaze on the methamphetamine problem; and the Office of National Drug Control Policy spends much of its time focusing on Marijuana the opportunity to address the pharmaceutical addiction and abuse is being missed. While certain steps have been taken they have been tentative. The ONDCP has drawn up a strategy for addressing synthetic drugs, but no serious media campaign to educate Americans about the problem has been undertaken. Nor has any pharmaceutical company been brought to heel for manufacturing drugs with high abuse potential even when alternatives may exist.
The next battle in America's war on drugs must draw a bead on pharmaceuticals. The ONDCP must be willing to launch the same type of hard hitting ad campaigns against prescription drug abuse as it has against, marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine. The FDA must not be afraid to sanction drug manufacturers who continue to make unsafe drugs where safe alternatives exist. Pharmaceutical manufactures must become better citizens and spend the research and development dollars to make safe and effective drugs, rather than taking the easy way out.
This new phase of the war on drugs, without easily targeted foreigners to blame for America's drug abuse problems, will take unwavering political resolve, corporate citizenship and ingenuity. Even then it is likely to take years before the trend of increases in prescription medicine abuse and addiction can be reversed.
Common Prescription Drugs of Abuse:
Opioids: these are synthetic versions of opium. Intended for pain management opioids are the most commonly abused prescription drugs. OxyContin (oxycodone), Vicodin (hydrocodone) and Demerol (meperidine) are the most popular for abuse. Short-term side effects can include pain relief, euphoria, and drowsiness. Overdose can lead to death. Long-term use can lead to dependence or addiction.
Depressants: These drugs are commonly prescribed to treat anxiety; panic attacks, and sleep disorders. Nembutal (pentobarbital sodium), Valium (diazepam), and Xanax (alprazolam) are just three of the many drugs in this category. Immediately slow down normal brain functioning and can cause sleepiness Long-term use can lead to physical dependence and addiction.
Stimulants: Doctors may prescribe these to treat the sleeping disorder narcolepsy or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, ADHD. Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) are two commonly prescribed stimulants. These drugs enhance brain activity and increase alertness and energy in much the same way as cocaine or methamphetamine. They increase blood pressure; speed up heart rate, and respiration. Very high doses can lead to irregular heartbeat and hyperthermia.

The goal of bodybuilding isn't to get as big as you can, or at least to us it isn't and shouldn't be, but to build a balanced body that is as strong as possible in every way. For example, while being freakishly big may get people's attention, it serves you no purpose at all…
while on the other hand, what if you were not only big, but also extremely strong and powerful, lightning fast, flexible, and agile enough to kick ass if needed?
So many bodybuilders build massive amounts of muscle yet are so unbelievably weak and inflexible… for example, we know a guy who can bench press over 350 lbs but can't do a measly 50 push-ups!
The point is, the exercises you choose and how you perform them not only determine how big, strong, and flexible you are, but also affect how your body functions and whether or not you suffer from aches, pains, and injuries like back pain and sciatic pain.
Ok, here they are… the exercises that create the most problems and are most likely to lead to back pain: Bench Press Leg Extension
So, any of your favorites on this list?
While there are others, these are the two that cause the most damage.
There are several reasons why these exercises made our list of the "worst bodybuilding exercises". First, all of them target areas that already tend to get worked a lot in everyday life and often times are overdeveloped…
and by focusing so much on these exercises you end up creating muscle imbalances, or worsening existing muscle imbalances, which pull your bones and joints out of their normal position…
and this leads to uneven pressure and wear and tear on your muscle, ligaments, tendons, bones, and joints and will sooner or later lead a break down or injury.
For example, chronic overuse of the bench press, coupled with little or no exercises targeting the upper back, leads to an overdevelopment of the chest and a lack of strength and development in the upper back…
This all too common combination leads to what we call "Turtle Back". You know what we're talking about, when the shoulders are pulled so far forward, lats are as wide as barn, and from behind, their back looks like a giant sea turtle shell!
This "Turtle Back" posture can create neck, upper back, and shoulder pain and injuries faster than you can pop an Advil!
Plus, how many times during your day are you forced to lie on your back and push up a bar loaded with weights? There are so many better exercises for chest development that not only stimulate more muscle, but also build more usable strength.
Now let's talk about the fabulous thigh builder, the leg extension…
Not only does it place an unbelievable amount of strain on the knee joint, but it also will quickly overdevelop the quads, which are already getting far more work than their counterpart, the hamstrings.
An imbalance between the quadriceps and hamstrings, which is also extremely common in bodybuilders, is a key contributor to back pain. This imbalance is easily identifiable by what people often call "Bubble Butt" or "Ghetto Booty".
So hopefully you can see how important it is to choose your exercises wisely. We strongly recommend you cut out these exercises, or at least cut back on using them and add in targeted exercises for the opposing muscle groups and targeted stretches for those tight, overdeveloped muscles.
The key to eliminating back pain, or any other ache, pain or injury for that matter, is to bring your body closer to balance…
What good is muscle if you can't use it? How many more workouts are you going to miss because of back, neck, or shoulder pain? How much bigger and stronger could you be if back pain and other injuries weren't ruining your training?
Just imagine how bad things will be 10, 20, or 30 years from now if you don't make changes to your training now… but don't take our word for it, ask some of the older bodybuilders who are paying the price now... you can spot them easily at the gym because they limp around trying to find something they CAN do.
Look for the next article, "Training Variations for Pain Relief and Maximum Results" very soon and in the mean time, if you are suffering from back pain or sciatic pain, here's what you need to do…

Winning at Post-Natal Weight Loss: Six Simple Strategies for New Moms . Part 3

Winning at Post-Natal Weight Loss: Six Simple Strategies for New Moms — Part 3
 by: Susan Peach

A healthy pregnancy almost always involves weight gain. But now that baby's here, you're probably wishing those extra pounds would hurry up and disappear! While it won't happen overnight, these six simple tips can help you lose that extra weight in a healthy way. (If you're looking for parts 1 and 2 of this article, you can find them both at http://www.mambomoms.com/articles.html)
5) Get moderate exercise on a regular basis. Of course, you should get the go ahead from your doctor first, and you will likely need to wait longer if you've had a caesarean birth, but most new moms can begin a gentle fitness program very soon after their baby is born.
Exercise is definitely one of those things that most of us feel obligated to do and few of us seem to enjoy. In fact, for many moms, having a new baby seems to be a great excuse not to exercise. After all, you're legitimately busy, sleep-deprived, and probably a bit nervous about leaving your precious bundle with someone else while you head to the gym. But wait! Who ever said you had to pump iron, punch a bag or jump around in a fitness class for an hour to get your exercise?
The whole key to sticking with a fitness program is to choose an activity you enjoy. If you enjoy hiking outdoors, why not invest in a baby carrier so you and your baby can do this together? There are all kinds of baby trailers on the market now so your baby can join you on a bike ride or even a cross country ski outing if these are activities you enjoy. If swimming is fun for you, why not offer to take a friend's teenager to the pool. She can sit close by with your baby on the pool deck while you do a few lengths, and then you and your baby can enjoy a leisurely lunch or cup of tea while the teen gets a chance to play in the pool in return for helping you out. Yoga classes for moms and babies are also popular now, and this can be a very enjoyable and relaxing way to spend time with your baby while you exercise.
For the new mom who wasn't active before pregnancy, gentle forms of exercise such as taking a stroll are ideal. If you can find another new mom close by to share this time with, your walks will become a pleasant activity that you look forward to, instead of part of your dreaded post-natal fitness program. If your health unit or community nursing program offers a drop in program for new moms you will be able to connect with other moms there. Or perhaps you've stayed in touch with a mom you met in your pre-natal classes. As you start to feel more energetic you can increase the length and the intensity of your walks. Ans if the weather is bad you can always walk around the mall and enjoy the sights.
Gentle dancing or rocking while holding your baby is also excellent exercise that both of you can enjoy. When your baby is fussy or tired and nursing her doesn't seem to be helping, why not put on some music and introduce her to your favourite dance steps? She won't mind if you don't get the steps right, she'll just enjoy being close to you while you move, and you'll get the fitness benefits. Most babies will enjoy dancing with you even when they're not tired and cranky. As she gets older your dance dates will probably be greeted with giggles and squeals of delight.
Remember though that moderation in your exercise program is the key. Even if you bounce back quickly from your baby's birth and are feeling very energetic, be sure to start slowly and increase your exercise level gradually. Too much too soon can set you back by causing you to feel exhausted later on in the day. This can lead to grouchiness or a bout of the baby blues, neither of which will motivate you to continue exercising! Remember the old adage, "always leave 'em wanting more." This should be your fitness mantra in the first few postpartum months. In other words, stop before you've had enough and you'll be more likely to continue with your fitness program the next day.
6) Wear your baby often. Using a sling or carrier to keep baby close during the day will make your baby happier, plus it will give you a little extra weight to pack around as you do your daily chores and activities. It may not seem like much, but as your baby grows you'll be increasing the amount of weight you're carrying while you go about your daily routines. And that adds up to extra weight loss for you.
Instead of using a stroller when you take a walk, put baby in the carrier. Instead of putting her in a swing or rocking seat, rock her to sleep in your arms or in your baby carrier while you stand and gently bounce to and fro. When you go to the grocery store, carry her in a sling instead of putting her in the shopping cart. In fact, if you're lucky enough to live within walking distance of your grocery store, you can even make this a daily outing to pick up a few items each time. Your baby will enjoy the extra closeness of being in a sling or carrier as you do laundry, tend the garden, or even take some time out for a hobby like bird watching. Babies in our society seem to spend so much time strapped into various pieces of equipment. Most will love the opportunity to be closer to the person they most adore—you!
The bonus for mom is that extra weight to carry equals extra calories burned. Over the course of a year this can add up to significant weight loss, in a very healthy way for all concerned. Depending on how often you carry your baby, and how much she weighs, you can easily burn an extra 100-200 calories a day just by carrying her along for part of your day. Anytime you're on the go, try to carry your baby with you and you'll be getting the benefit of the increased calorie burn that comes with packing around an extra 10, 15, or 20 pounds.
And there you have it, six painless ways to lose those extra pregnancy pounds effortlessly and without stress. Remember, your baby won't be small for long so try not to get too preoccupied with weight loss. If you eat well most of the time, get some moderate exercise on a regular basis, and follow the rest of the tips in this article series, you'll get back in shape with hardly a second thought.

Winning at Post-Natal Weight Loss: Six Simple Strategies for New Moms — Part 2
 by: Susan Peach

A healthy pregnancy almost always involves weight gain. But now that baby's here, you're probably wishing those extra pounds would hurry up and disappear! While it won't happen overnight, these six simple tips can help you lose that extra weight in a healthy way. (If you've missed part 1 of this article, or want to read part 3, you can find them both at http://www.mambomoms.com/articles.html)
3) Drink plenty of water. You will probably be very thirsty if you are nursing your baby and you should drink as much as your thirst dictates. But even if you're not breastfeeding, lots of pure water is important in your quest to shed those pregnancy pounds.
First of all, water has no calories, so when compared to other beverages, it's hands down the best bet in terms of weight loss. Diet soft drinks and other low calorie beverages may have only a couple of calories, but your body craves pure water in order to be able to function properly. Besides, many people are concerned about the artificial sweeteners used in these products, and caffeinated diet drinks may increase fussiness in your baby if you're nursing. Go ahead and indulge if this is something you just can't live without, but make sure you're not doing it at the expense of your water needs.
Secondly, water is helpful in the process of burning stored body fat. Studies have shown that not drinking enough water can hinder your weight loss efforts because the liver has to work harder to metabolize waste when your body is not properly hydrated.
And finally, drinking enough water will help you feel full so you eat less. This is especially true if you're eating lots of high fiber foods such as whole grain breads and cereals. The fiber in whole grains will absorb water, making you feel full longer.
Other liquids are fine too, such as juice, milk (dairy or substitutes), and herbal teas. But do try to stay away from those empty calorie soft drinks and anything that's labeled "beverage," "punch" or "drink" instead of "juice." And even though they may be considered healthful, watch your intake of pure fruit juices. Juices contain nutrients that your body needs, but they are a very concentrated source of sugar as well. Whenever possible you are better off to eat a piece of fresh fruit and drink water for thirst.
You should also try to limit your intake of coffee and caffeinated tea. Doing so may help both you and your baby regulate your sleep habits. Some babies get very fussy and hard to settle when mom is breastfeeding and drinks caffeinated beverages.
Drinking lots of water is one of those things that seems easy in theory, but in practice it can be difficult to accomplish. One effective strategy to help make sure you get enough is to place water bottles strategically around the house. You can buy small plastic bottles of water by the case at the grocery store or you can buy the refillable type of bottle that you might take to the gym or on your bike.
Put a bottle anywhere you spend time during the day: near your favourite nursing chair (put several here—you'll probably use them all!), near baby's change table, on the bathroom counter, on top of the washing machine, on the kitchen counter, on your desk, on a shelf near the front door, beside your bed, on the kitchen table, etc. Each morning, spend 3 or 4 minutes making the rounds collecting yesterday's empty bottles and replacing them with fresh ones. This way, you'll be more likely to drink lots of water because there will always be some close at hand.
4) Breastfeed your baby if at all possible. Depending on the age and weight of your baby, you can use around 800 calories a day producing milk for her. Besides the host of other benefits that breastfeeding affords both you and your baby, quicker postnatal weight loss is one advantage that all new moms welcome. Even if you are returning to work or can't breastfeed full time for any reason, any amount of breast milk is good for your baby, and as a perk, will help you use up additional calories for as long as you are able to continue.
In addition, breastfeeding releases natural hormones that help you relax. Since the hormones released when you are stressed can contribute to weight gain, it only makes sense to counter this with activities that help you relax. Breastfeeding is a wonderful way to do this, and you and your baby will also benefit in so many other ways. If you need more information or support with breastfeeding, visit La Leche League International on the web at http://www.LaLecheLeague.org
In part three of this article you'll learn ways to burn extra calories easily and enjoyably without sweating it out at the gym. You'll also learn the secret that savvy new moms use to effortlessly burn up to an extra 200 calories a day —that's 2 pounds a month with no extra effort!
