Get The Straight And Beautiful Teeth You Want With Cosmetic Dentistry In Seattle by Ron Warner

Have you been dealing with that crooked smile all your life? It's time you got rid of it with cosmetic dentistry in Seattle. Teeth straightening is a fairly simple dental procedure, although it's going to vary from patient to patient. Still, the good news is, you can have that perfectly straight smile when you find the right dentist for you. In Seattle, you will have many choices so don't worry. That beautiful smile is most definitely just around the corner.

Maybe you are unsure what tooth straightening is all about and why you need to go with good cosmetic dentistry in Seattle. There are many people who have misaligned teeth. In fact, more than half of adults have teeth that are not straight. Often a tooth comes from your gums at an angle or turned and then the rest of the teeth have to adjust to that tooth, which can cause them to become misaligned as well. Although this is a problem that can make your smile less attractive, in most cases you will find that this problem can be corrected fairly easily. There are many different solutions that cosmetic dentists can provide today to help you get straighter teeth.

When you explore your options with cosmetic dentistry in Seattle, you will find that there are quite many things you can do to improve your smile. Probably one of the most popular methods out there happens to be braces. This method has been tested for so many years and it has been definitely successful for teeth straightening. The drawbacks to this option is that it can take a lot of time to get the straight teeth you want with braces and many people find that having braces is very painful as well. Although your dentist may recommend braces for you today, you will find that there are other options available to help you straighten your teeth as well. You may want to consider some of the other options before going with braces.

Various other options are available when you go with cosmetic dentistry in Seattle. There are lumineers, veneers, and more that can help to straighten the teeth. Sometimes even pulling a tooth or two can give the space needed for other teeth to spread out and become straighter. Invisible shields can be used as well, which force the teeth to straighten, but unlike braces, you won't even see them. Of course, while there are many options available, it is always best to talk to your dentist about your options. Look into the choices you have and ask them what they would recommend so you would get the best, fastest results. This way you get your bright new smile as quickly as you can.

Peel Away Insecurity with a Chemical Peel by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Tired of seeing acne, scars or wrinkles when you look in the mirror? A chemical peel rejuvenates your face, neck and hands, recreating that natural, youthful glow and lessening dermatologic blemishes.

What Is a Chemical Peel?

Also called derma-peeling or chemexfoliation, a chemical peel uses a chemical solution to literally peel off the surface layer of the skin. The outer layer of the skin harbors dead skin cells, scars, acne and fine lines, so eliminating that entire level allows smoother, tighter skin to emerge. The B-LIFTx® peel, for example, utilizes beta hydroxyacid to dig out all the miniscule skin imperfections.

Some chemical peels risk side effects such as redness, inflammation or skin discoloration. The B-LIFTx® peel, however, has built-in dermatologic technology which forces the process to halt as soon as the the chemicals have revitalized the skin fully.

Why Get a Chemical Peel?

People choose to get chemical peels for a variety of reasons. First, peels beautify the skin, providing a more thorough exfoliation than any self-cleansing you can administer at home. This enhancement increases people’s self-confidence, and who doesn’t need an ego boost every now and then? Additionally, chemical peels may remove pre-cancerous skin growths, helping to keep patients healthy.

For people with acne issues, chemical peels can help control acne. They treat certain types of acne, keeping the active pimples and blackheads under control by peeling them off. They also treat mild acne scars left after the acne itself heals, providing a comprehensive cosmetic dermatology service for victims of acne.

Chemical peels like B-LIFTx® also help in cases of slight wrinkles. For example, the fine lines which naturally develop near the eyes and mouth can be reduced by a chemical peel treatment. Many external factors can cause wrinkles – sun damage, genetics, age and general self-care. When these result in superficial wrinkles and fine lines, a chemical peel contours and tightens the skin to deliver a smooth, youthful glow.

If you’re attempting to treat deep wrinkles, extreme bulges or sagging skin, a chemical peel is not the most effective option. Chemical peels only treat surface skin conditions. However, your Austin cosmetic dermatologist can address things like extreme wrinkles with alternative skin treatments.

Advances in Cosmetic Dermatology: Fotofacials by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

For a non-invasive anti-aging cosmetic dermatology treatment, consider a photofacial. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacials effectively refresh skin, anti-aging your appearance.

What Do Photofacials Treat?

If you suffer from rosacea, sun damage, acne scars, fine lines or red and brown spots on your skin, a Photofacial, or Fotofacial™, may be able to help you. However, photofacials do not generally work well on wrinkles. They may diminish this thin, miniature lines around the face, but for deep-set, genuine wrinkles, a different procedure may be necessary.

Photofacials tend to be best for people past their younger years, as it particularly targets signs of aging. Anti-aging tools like photofacials need to work against a variety of age-related symptoms like gravity, physical decomposition and sun damage. These three sources can cause people to age prematurely as they all damage the collagen within our skin; the collagen is what keeps our skin tight and smooth. Thus, the fine lines in the corners of the face. Photofacials help reduce those lines, delivering a taut, smooth canvas of skin.

To create this affect, your Austin cosmetic dermatologist moves a specific tool over the skin; this tool emits IPL. The IPL heats the inner layer of skin while at the same time cooling the outer layer of skin.

A Fotofacial™ can treat the face, neck, chest, arms or hands.

How Long Does a Fotofacial™ Take?

Although the light pulses take no time at all – approximately 2.5 milliseconds – the entire treatments lasts between a half-hour and an hour. The length of time depends on the specific area being treated. If just a small area requires treatment, it’ll take less time than if the patient requests all the available areas to be treated at once. Generally, a given area requires multiple sessions for the best results. Three to six sessions dictates the average for most people’s skin treatment.

One of the main attractions for this cosmetic dermatology treatment lies in its feasibility and convenience. There’s essentially no recovery time to a photofacial treatment.

If you’re looking for anti-aging cosmetic dermatology in Austin, TX, call Zimmet Vein & Dermatology today to discuss the benefits of a Photofacial treatment.

Laser Hair Remova: Not Just for Women Anymore by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

When women discovered laser hair removal, razors gleefully found their way into trashcans in all corners of the U.S. Now, men are doing the same. Laser hair removal has become a viable option to diminish or completely erase hair all over the body for people of either gender.

Why Men Get Laser Hair Removal in Austin, TX

Possibly the most common reason men choose the laser hair removal route is due to the wishes of their romantic partner, or just general sex appeal. Everyone’s like to look and feel good about themselves. If your partner’s expressing disappointment in your physical appearance, you want to change that aspect of your body. Laser hair removal makes it easy to light the load of chest hair, or totally get rid of that mass of back hair.

For athletes – cyclists, swimmers and bodybuilders in particular – less hair equals better performance. Bodybuilders display muscles more easily; cyclists and swimmers move faster. In Austin, the home of Lance Armstrong, the Lady Bird Lake pathways and the Greenbelt, cyclists in particular find laser hair removal worthwhile.

However, if you’re not an athlete and don’t want all the hair gone, just want a little thinning in a particular area, then laser hair removal may be your only option besides electrolysis. However, electrolysis can be more painful and more tedious, as it treats each individual hair. Laser hair removal involves pulsing a laser directly into each strand of hair within a given area, delivering a swift end to a large number of hairs.

Of particular benefit to men is the laser hair removal’s lack of pseudo-folliculitis, otherwise known as razor bumps. Laser hair removal also makes the 5 o’clock shadow null and void, as the lasers affect the hair beneath the skin’s surface as well as above.

Men Commonly Request Laser Hair Removal on These Areas

The back, chest and abs tend to be the most popular hair removal requests from male customers. The hair growth at the nape of the neck can become tedious to cut; getting laser hair removal around that small little triangle eradicates that irritation. Additionally, men with a lot of hair may request brow shaping to get rid of a unibrow appearance.

Laser Hair Removal Warnings for Men

Refrain from making a laser hair removal appointment at your Austin cosmetic dermatology clinic if you have a recent tan. It can result in blistering or odd discoloration. If you have blond, red or gray hair, the laser hair removal process may not work for you; laser hair removal works by picking up on the melanin in the hair strands, and lighter hair colors do not have the same levels of melanin.

If you’re interested in laser hair removal, call Zimmet Vein & Dermatology, a top Austin dermatology clinic. During your appointment, the professionals at Dr. Zimmet’s dermatology office get you in and out as swiftly as possible while addressing all your needs and concerns.

BOTOX: Dispelling the Social Stigma by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Shut your eyes. Now, think of your immediate reaction to the word Botox®. Did you visualize a woman so full of plastic, she can’t make any facial expressions? Or was it a plethora of needles advancing on your open-eyed face? Or maybe a couple of mad scientists, creating cyborgs out of humans?

Botox® has gained a number of negative associations over the years. Whether the reasons are the overt ones listed above or they take the form of a more insidious discouragement, society tends to disapprove. For example, taking needles to your skin means you’re an unhappy, superficial human being, right?

Wrong. In actuality, Botox ® offers a solution to a variety of problems. Even the classic use of Botox® - to clear away frown lines – has its benefits. Confidence is paramount in every person’s life, in all arenas – professional, social and personal. Botox® provides that level of confidence, raising self-esteem by rejuvenating your face. When you’re more comfortable with your appearance, you’re more comfortable with yourself, and able to conduct your affairs in a more fluid, effective manner.

What Can Botox® Do for Me?

If you want the aesthetic benefits of a smoother face, you want BOTOX® Cosmetic. Your skilled Austin dermatologist will discuss all the benefits and repercussions prior to the procedure’s initiation. BOTOX® Cosmetic involves your professional dermatologist injecting Botox® (or onabotulinumtoxinA) into your forehead’s muscles. The Botox® prescription deters muscle movement in the injected area: the glabellar lines, or frown lines, above your eyebrows. Your face immediately looks younger, calmer and healthier. Although the results are temporary, you can repeat the procedure at a later date, if desired.

Another, lesser known solution Botox® provides treats hyperhidrosis, or severe sweating. If your underarms don’t respond well to deodorants and other topical treatments, your body may use a more extreme version of sweating, requiring a stronger solution, such as Botox®. In this situation, Botox® again hinders movement in the injected area; the sweat glands cannot move the sweat out.

In addition to these benefits, Botox® may offer a solution if you suffer from muscle stiffness, cervical dystonia (CD) or strabismus (involving eye muscles) and blepharospam (involving eyelids). Discuss your unique condition with a qualified Austin, TX dermatologist prior to pursuing this treatment option.

What Are the Potential Complications of Botox®?

Botox®, just like any other medical treatment, does come with some side effects and potential risks. The best way to avoid these is to communicate with your medical professional. Tell your dermatologist about your allergies, health problems, past medical history and current medications. Discuss your concerns with them. Follow their instructions as closely as possible; they will curtail their advice to your unique situation, based on the information you’ve given them.

However, some side effects may still occur. These include sensitivity around the injection location, headaches, weariness and possible vision issues. Keep your physician updated on any changes in your physical condition. This increases the likelihood that any severe or unnecessary side effects will be addressed and corrected immediately.

For a consultation with a qualified local professional, contact Dr. Zimmet and his skilled team. Zimmet Vein & Dermatology, located in Austin, offers Botox® treatments, along with the knowledge and experience necessary to specialize each session to each individual patient. Call today to schedule an appointment and start your journey to a fresher, more confident you.

Why Are Magnetic Bracelets Useful by Michele Walls

Many people who suffer from illnesses tend to use magnetic bracelets, in a way to help cure what they have. These illnesses, can range from carpal tunnel disorder, arthritis, to even sleeping disorders. There are many companies in the medical world that promote the benefits of using these magnetic bracelets, as a way to help with your illness as an alternative to science medicine. However, many of the researchers have yet to find any real evidence to support whether or not it actual does help.

History of the Magnetic

magnetic bracelets, have been used to help combat against the fight of illnesses since the days of Hippocrates, in Greece during the early centuries, and they may have been used much earlier than that. There has been research done to suggest that Cleopatra, even slept with a stone that was magnetic on her forehead to try to stop herself from growing old. At the time of the 15th century, a Swiss physician named Paracelsus, identified magnets, as a way to help energize the body and help to ignite the healing process. Further along in the history, a physician in the 18th century named, Franz Anton Mesmer, deemed that in our bodies we have magnetic poles, and if they were to be moved out of alignment, they could ignite the process of an illnesses. He also thought that, even just by touching patients he could heal them because of the magnetic flow from him to his patients body.

Scientific Evidence About Magnets

There has been no real evidence so far, to support the claims that alternative ways to heal, by using magnets can cure or help with conditions or diseases. The Cochrane Colloboration, in 2003, reviewed 21 different studies in regards to the effects on magnets on patients who have carpal tunnel syndrome, these studies didn't find any real benefits to wearing the magnets. There have been many studies that have been inconclusive in terms of whether or not these magnetic bracelets have any real benefit, more research will need to be done, to determine if they are helpful.

The theory of Magnets

There are many different theories when it comes to how magnets will effect the body. When it comes to alternative medicine, many believe they can help with such things as: increase the oxygen in your blood, improve your circulation, minimize the formation of plaque that causes the high cholesterol levels, it may increase endorphins and the magnets could also help relax the muscles and the blood vessels.

Can magnetic bracelets Help?

Even though there are many scientist who claim that there is no real evidence in supporting the organizations that sell magnets, using these magnetic bracelets will not damage your health. You may see some benefit when using these magnets, but whether or not it is just a placebo effect or if it is the magnet working, will be quite difficult to determine. However, if you do use any form of medicine such as, intrathecal, insulin, or a chemotherapy pump and an implanted defibrillator then using magnets may actually interfere with how they operate.

What Is The Theory Of Magnetic Therapy by Michele Walls

The use of magnets started around 4,000 years ago as a natural form of treatment for many different health concerns. During the early part of the 20th century, physicians would use magnets, to help patients who have neuralgia and sciatica. In more recent times, these magnets have now been used to test their powers of use on pain relief, and patients who have osteoarthritis as well as fibromyalgia. It has also been used in healing wounds and diabetes.

The Theory of Magnetic Therapy and How It Works

When the body has an injury or infection, the general response to that is inflammation. The white cells in our body will try to fight the infection or the injury. However, the white cells may produce extra fluid, which can cause swelling, and in some cases it may cause arthritis, and fibromyalgia, and many patients end up being chronic.

The Theory of Magnetic Therapy has believed to have helped in the areas of circulatory system. The Theory of Magnetic Therapy, suggest that magnets will attract the different metal particles that are in our blood that contain iron, so when these magnetics are used on our skin, the magnetic field will reach the tissues and our blood stream. Where the magnets are placed on our body, they are supposed to increase the flow of our blood, and in the end increase how our oxygen level is distributed, and the nutrients to our organs.

Where the injury is, will receive the fresh nutrients and oxygen that it needs, as well a boost of endorphins, which are said to heal the ailments which can help reduce the level of pain. The cells in the body contain ions, which can be positively or negatively charged, these ions will ignite the electro magnetic pulses. If these cells are sick, then the ions will be distributed, and will then cause the cellular imbalance in the body. When you apply the magnetic stones over the parts of the body that are injured or sick, these magnets will help bring back the ions into its alignment.

The Theory of Magnetic Therapy In Aliments

These magnetic stones have been used in a number of ways to treat ailments, these include arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, bowel disorders, fibromyalgia, diabetes, high blood pressure, migraine headaches, insomnia, poor circulation, sciatic and spondylosis.

The interest into The Theory of Magnetic Therapy has increased a number of developments into the areas of devices that are created to help with pain relief. Just like with regular medicine not everyone will respond to magnetic therapy the same way.

The Different Magnets

There are many types of magnets used. One of these magnets that are is ferrite magnets: these are generally used in wraps for healing, magnetic bedding, and in some insoles in shoes. Others include neodymium which is rare earth magnets: these are smaller and are lighter in weight then the other magnet that has been just mentioned. These types of magnets can sometimes be found in jewelry that are magnetic, as well as bedding and wraps.

The Connection Between Oral Health & Overall Health by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Oral health affects people in a multitude of ways. Some are basic lifestyle changes; others are detrimental to physical health. Here are some ways in which your general health and your dental health are connected.

How Your Health Affects Your Teeth

The immune system is what protects our bodies from disease. A strong immune system defends a person’s health, while a weak immune system allows infection to fester. If you suffer from a weak immune system, you’re much more likely to suffer from dental infections and oral illnesses. Your kids’ dental health may require particular overseeing to make sure they’re brushing as thoroughly as their immune system warrants.

If you take drugs for any reason, discuss the side effects with your doctor. If dry mouth results from the medication, pay special attention to your oral hygiene. Dental decay can arise from dry mouth, as bacteria flourish in this environment.

How Your Oral Health Affects Your Lifestyle

Poor oral health affects not only peoples’ appearances, but from that it can lower self-esteem. One frequent cause for this is stained teeth, from smoking or drinking dark liquids, for example. A professional, in-house teeth whitening at your local San Antonio dental clinic can bump that confidence tremendously.

Unhealthy teeth can also make it difficult to chew food. For example, if your teeth are developing cavities, they feel an increased sensitivity, making it difficult to eat much less chew.

Even if you have healthy teeth, if you suffer from an oral health disorder such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, you may have difficulty sleeping. TMJ involves the joints of your jaw and it can cause severe, consistent pain.

Diabetes & Oral Health

If you are diabetic, oral hygiene is particularly important. An oral infection can affect blood-sugar levels, introducing problems in keeping your diabetes in line.

Gum Disease & Oral Health

America’s oral health is being attacked by gum disease, and San Antonio is no exception. Periodontal (gum) disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss. It increases the risk of additional physical issues, such as heart attacks and strokes. Pregnancy and oral health are inextricably tied in this way; gum disease allows oral bacteria to travel to the fetus via blood, potentially causing premature births and low-weight births. Periodontal bacteria can also migrate to the lungs as you breathe, causing respiratory disease.

Oral health education is extremely important to maintaining a healthy smile and healthy body. For further oral health products and oral health services in the San Antonio area, call your local cosmetic dentist at Culebra North Dental Care. Drs. Quillian and Sproull will gladly help you keep your mouth and body healthy. Call today to schedule your first free dental consultation.

Preventive Dentistry: How to Maintain Healthy Teeth by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

It’s easy to let oral hygiene slide. With a swipe of a toothbrush, your teeth FEEL clean, so why bother taking 5 minutes and flossing, to boot? Unfortunately, your tongue can’t feel the bacteria taking over. That bacteria, given time, can cause gum disease. Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, and the cost of dental implants isn’t cheap. Here are some preventive dentistry techniques to keep your mouth looking and feeling great.

Brush Your Teeth. Dentists suggest people brush their teeth every time they eat. Considering the majority of the population in San Antonio goes to work every day, that’s difficult to accomplish. Even if you’re a stay-at-home mom, you could easily be out of the house doing errands along Culebra Road and running the kids around for 8 hours straight. Carrying a toothbrush and mini-toothpaste with you helps. It only takes a few minutes to brush your teeth; with a whole hour for lunch, taking a few moments to run into the bathroom, tidy up and brush your teeth before going back to the office will make a big difference in your dental health.

Floss. Cosmetic dentists encourage patients to floss every day, if not after every meal. Coordinate flossing with a daily habit to make it less arduous. Do it right before bed, or when you brush your teeth in the morning. This makes it automatic and thus, less difficult.

Make That 6-Month Teeth Cleaning Appointment. It’s easy to believe that if you’re brushing and flossing, you’re doing your job. But the job doesn’t stop there. A professional teeth cleaning once every 6 months creates healthy teeth and healthy gums, more than any normal brushing or flossing can do.

Don’t Put Off Oral Problems. If your preventative dentist says your wisdom teeth are ready to be removed, make the appointment at your San Antonio dental clinic; don’t wait until it starts hurting. If your child’s teeth grew in crooked, talk to your children’s dentist about Invisalign® (invisible braces). Attending your 6-month teeth cleaning consistently will help to catch these issues before they flare up. Your San Antonio aesthetic dentist will notice things with their trained eye which you may have missed.

For more information about how preventive dentistry can help your oral health issues, call your San Antonio cosmetic dentist at Culebra North Dental Care today to schedule your free consultation.

Duplex Ultrasound Evaluation: For Hidden Leg Veins by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Medicine is mystery to most people. There’s a reason we see general physicians for annual check-ups and visit our dentist once every 6 months: they know something we don’t. But how exactly does do they discover these things – things about our bodies that we may not have guessed at ourselves? One way a phlebologist, or vein specialist, discovers hidden varicose veins and other venous leg problems is through the use of a duplex ultrasound evaluation.

What Is a Duplex Ultrasound Evaluation?

This venous ultrasound analyzes all the health issues lying below the surface of the skin. This method of duplex scanning particularly researches the veins; your Austin phlebologist can tell a lot about your veins simply by examining the leg itself, but to discover varicose veins, ulcers or blood clots below the surface, an ultrasound of the legs is required.

The leg ultrasound uses ultrasound (high frequency sound waves) and Doppler ultrasonography to get a complete venous imaging. The ultrasound emits sound waves to the blood vessels, translating the sound waves’ movements into an image of the internal vessels. The Doppler ultrasound echoes a slight sound reflecting the blood’s movement, depicting a colored view of the blood flow.

What Can I Expect at My Ultrasound Evaluation?

This duplex scanning does not require any preparation. When you arrive at your Austin vein clinic, your phlebologist will apply an ultrasound gel to the specific area in question. They then wave a wand (“transducer,” technically) above that area, emitting the waves and receiving the image. Most often, this venous Doppler ultrasound is needed for the arteries of the lower extremity; more particularly, it’s wanted for varicose veins. In that case, the best results come from patients standing during the ultrasound. Painless and convenient, this non-invasive procedure generally only takes 30 to 45 minutes.

To discuss the option of an arterial duplex ultrasound with a qualified phlebologist, contact your Austin dermatology and vein clinic at Zimmet Vein & Dermatology. A renowned dermatologist and phlebologist, Dr. Zimmet will gladly discuss any qualms you may have and answer any questions before pursuing a procedure, personalizing your treatment.

Smile Makeover: Enhance Your Health & Confidence by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

If your mouth needs a helping hand from a cosmetic dentist, you may need a smile makeover. An extreme smile makeover may entail multiple cosmetic dentistry procedures, addressing mouths with multiple cosmetic dental problems.

Getting a Smile Makeover: The First Steps

Initially, your Austin cosmetic dentist will do a complete overview of your dental structure. During a professional dental cleaning, they will take dental x-rays, analyzing your oral health in thorough detail. If your mouth has health issues, you may need to employ restorative dentistry before pursuing cosmetic dentistry. Your teeth and gums need a certain level of health to support a cosmetic smile makeover. Undergoing individual restorative dentistry procedures or a full mouth reconstruction, if necessary, will provide that security in your oral health.

What Cosmetic Procedures My Mouth Needs

Your cosmetic dentist takes a variety of personalized factors into consideration when planning your smile design. Ultimately, your Austin dentist customizes your smile to not only address each dental concern you have, but also to craft your perfect smile in conjunction with your face. Each facial structure promotes a different concept of beauty, and your unique smile design should complement that structure.

Additionally, your cosmetic dental services may address:

Tooth positions. Many people don’t think about the way their jaw sits or the spacing between their teeth. However, these factors can be a large contribution to the aesthetics of your smile. If you’re missing a tooth, your dental implant dentist can provide a fairly permanent solution. If your teeth are spaced incorrectly, a cosmetic orthodontic option lies in Invisalign®. A certified Invisalign® dentist is qualified to provide this cosmetic dental service.

Tooth color. Zoom!® teeth whitening is an in-office tooth whitening procedure which brightens your teeth by multiple shades. Your Austin dentist may also provide bleaching trays to whiten your teeth at home.

Tooth length. The length of a person’s teeth can directly affect the aesthetic of a smile. For gummy smiles, crown lengthening can extend the surface area of the crown; for exposed roots, gingival grafting covers the sensitive area. If your dentist doesn’t offer these oral surgeries, they may refer you to a periodontist.

For more information on extreme smile makeovers, contact Austin cosmetic dentist Dr. Mike McCarty. He offers free consultations to answer your questions and concerns.

Dental Implant Options: What Is CEREC? by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Due to a national need, dental implant technology has been developing rapidly. CEREC® represents a component of that development, allowing crowns to be created in your Austin dentist’s office without having to be sent off to a lab technician.

What Is CEREC®?

CEREC® is offered through a company called Sirona. Founded in 1997, Sirona primarily produces dental equipment, but they also invest in dental research to be able to offer the most cutting-edge, innovative products to their customers. CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction, since CEREC® creates ceramic-based crowns. Over 15 million CEREC® procedures have occurred worldwide, according to Sirona’s website.

CEREC® creates material for inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns and dental implants. Although there are a variety of ceramic materials which the periodontist can choose to fabricate the composite blocks of the crown, they are all ceramic, allowing them to blend in with the coloration of natural teeth.

For normal crown creation, a patient must make two dentist appointments. The first appointment lets your Austin periodontist creates an impression, then they send it off and a laboratory creates the permanent crown from the impression. The second appointment involves the actual installation of the new crown. CEREC® cuts out the middle man, using “Computer-Assisted Design-Computer-Assisted Manufacture” or “CAD-CAM.” This technology allows a computer to create the crown instead of an outsourced lab technician.

CEREC® Advantages

The biggest advantage to in-office crown creations is inherent in the title – they are conducted entirely in-office. It offers convenience and savings to the patient. No temporary crown is required to bridge the gap between the mold and the permanent crown; temporary crowns, because they’re generic, tend to irritate people’s gum tissue. The savings your Austin periodontist gets from eliminating an outsourced job comes back to you, saving you the cost of the lab.

Since they’re entirely ceramic, CEREC® crowns blend in cosmetically with the rest of your smile.

CEREC® Disadvantages

Although they blend in with your teeth better than a metal filling, CEREC® crowns use a single block to create the crown, eliminating the visual textures inherent to organic teeth.

Many dentists do not offer CEREC®.

Diet Programs And Menus - The Jenny Craig Diet by Levi Reiss

The Jenny Craig Diet dates back to 1985. Today there are centers in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Dieters work with a nutritional counselor who aids them in determining personal weight loss objectives. In general dieters will eat smaller meals, enabling them to burn calories more efficiently. This diet is rich in fruits and vegetables. Here are some of the principles.

Start by meeting with your consultant who will identify with you your nutritional habits and your aptitude for losing weight. You'll be weighed and measured, and will obtain a personal daily program containing detailed menus with calorie counts. You meet with your consultant privately once a week. During the first four weeks each meeting focuses on one subject including food, taking care of your body, and exercise. On the fifth week your program will be reevaluated if necessary. Before actually starting the diet, you get used to the meals by introducing them slowly. Your consultant may show you healthy cooking techniques. Your meals contain mostly fruits, vegetables, light dairy products, whole grains, and healthy cooking oils. You may also eat lean meat, poultry, fish, green beans, eggs, and nuts. Avoid foods containing high levels of cholesterol or sodium, sugary supplements, and saturated fats. Many of the foods are prepared by Jenny Craig, Inc. Practice a sport as determined with the help of your consultant. Take on a more active lifestyle.

A major advantage of the Jenny Craig Diet is the personal trainer who provides psychological as well as nutritional support. You'll acquire good eating habits, and eat a wide variety of permitted foods. Disadvantages include the cost, perhaps $80 a week for the food itself. You may not care for the program's food.

Here are two sample menus:

Menu 1

Breakfast: Oatmeal and honey breakfast bar. Tea or coffee.

The mid-morning snack is a yogurt.

Lunch: Burritos with beans and cheese. Green salad.

The mid-afternoon snack is a glass of soy milk.

Supper: Veal parmigiana. Green peas. Carrots. The evening snack is fruit salad.

Menu 2

Breakfast: Oatmeal porridge and peaches. Skim milk. Tea or coffee.

The mid-morning snack is a muesli bar.

Lunch: A spinach and ricotta turnover. Lettuce and tomato salad.

The mid-afternoon snack is a peach.

Supper: Beef lasagna. The evening snack is a chocolate mousse.

Some information in this article comes from a fascinating new book, La Bible des Regimes, written by Jenny de Jonquieres and published by Amerik Media. Is Niacin Safe for Lowering Cholesterol? by Dr Sam Robbins

Niacin or Vitamin B3 or nicotinic acid is an important member of the Vitamin B Family of Vitamins essential for metabolism of fat in the body. Vitamins are necessary for many body processes, but are not naturally found within the body. Therefore, they must be procured from outside sources. Niacin in its nicotinic acid form has been found to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and increase HDL (good) cholesterol levels. The other form of niacin is the amide or niacinamide which does not affect cholesterol levels at all.

IMPORTANT WARNING: Click here to know the SAFETY of using Niacin to lower trigycerides and high cholesterol.

Niacin and cholesterol are closely linked because of the former’s ability to break down fats. The ratio of HDL to LDL is a measure of risk of heart disease. There are proteins called lipoproteins in the blood, which engulf fat particles and carry them through the blood.

The high density lipoproteins (HDL) are small in size and very dense. Therefore, they travel efficiently through the blood stream, scooping up cholesterol particles and carrying them to the liver to be disposed of as fit. The low density lipoproteins are less dense and larger in size. They travel through the blood stream slowly and are more susceptible to dissipation, thereby depositing the fat they are carrying on the walls of the arteries. So, it is better to have a high HDL and low LDL so that there is no plaque formation and cholesterol lining the artery walls.

While most statin drugs lower the LDL levels, they don’t affect the HDL and so reduce cardiovascular risk by 25%. Increasing HDL plays a critical role in reducing heart problems. Niacin increases HDL and thus, therapeutic doses of niacin along with statins may bridge this gap.

Regular vitamin supplements contain about 20mg which is needed for regular health functions. However, the therapeutic dosage of niacin is about 3g which is about 150 times greater. While such high dosage supplements are available over the counter, it is not advisable to take these without doctor’s supervision. High doses of niacin give rise to side effects like flushing, irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) and may even be toxic.

It also causes gout, high blood sugar, liver problems and kidney problems. It is not recommended for people with liver and kidney troubles, high blood pressure and for children. High dose niacin causes flushing and itching of the skin, so no-flush niacin is being marketed which is inositol hexaniacinate. This complex has no effect on humans and taking it does not reduce cholesterol at all.

Risk of complications increases as dosage of niacin increases. Therefore, it is unsafe to take niacin without continuous monitoring by the doctor. Normal doses do not significantly lower cholesterol and people risk toxicity and long-term side effects by taking higher doses unnecessarily.

There are a number of other natural ingredients that have been proven to reduce cholesterol without side effects. It is better to take such supplements than taking risky doses of niacin.

Gingival Grafting Upgrades Your Grin by Meredi Wagner-Hoehn

Almost everyone searches for ways to improve their smile. Using such techniques as bleaching agents, invisible aligners and veneers, people successfully sculpt their perfect smile. The aesthetics of an individual smile is usually the first physical attribute others notice. With all the different options to boost your grin nowadays, how does one choose the correct method? Well, if you’re diagnosed with gingival recession, or gum recession, the choice may be simple. To discuss the most effective procedure for you, contact Dr. Mike Williamson at his Austin office. His periodontal expertise will steer you in the right direction.

Typically, your dentist suggests a gingival grafting procedure if your oral cavity suffers from gingival recession. This condition rears its gummy head when the protective tissue around your teeth is gradually lost and pulls away, exposing the roots of those specific teeth. The sooner this condition is diagnosed and addressed, the better. Your overall oral health benefits from an early prognosis, and periodontists specialize in the detection and correction of this common circumstance.

Although this gingival situation may seem complicated, the actual causes – toothbrush abrasion and periodontal (gum) disease – are quite basic and highly avoidable. However, if the onset of gum recession is in an advanced stage, preventive dentistry often loses its potency; instead, several grafting options exist for periodontists to conquer your unique situation.

To show off a reconstructed smile to your fellow Austinites, you may find use in connective tissue grafting. This procedure reestablishes the supporting tissue surrounding your tooth and helps to repair the exposed root structure. In addition to enhancing the natural appearance of your tooth, which we all hope for in relation to periodontal measures, this practice stabilizes the tooth’s health, abolishes any sensitivity caused by the exposed root and protects the root from future decay or bone loss.

Furthermore, free gingival grafting represents a second option. Since this grafting choice effectively reinforces and stabilizes compromised gum tissue around teeth, it’s often renowned by periodontists and patients alike. However, it’s not as proficient at covering the exposed root structure as connective tissue grafting. Although this process successfully eliminates frenum attachments – unwanted tissue masses – its inability to shelter the root is an important flaw to consider. Consult your area periodontist to decide which grafting procedure best serves your unique dental situation.

If an adequate band of healthy pink tissue surrounds the tainted tooth, a coronally positioned graft may rejuvenate your tooth’s appearance and protect the specific root from further damage. When repositioned, the useful tissue covers the exposed root structure and encourages a healthy oral system. Unfortunately, not everyone who suffers from gingival recession has an abundance of wholesome gum tissue to offer.

Located in Austin, Dr. Williamson and his team specialize in the detection and treatment of gum recession. Call their Austin periodontal office today to discuss your gingival grafting options with his friendly, experienced staff. You will hear your mouth thank you.

Six-Year-Old Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Tragic Dental Procedure by James Parrish

Kids now have a reason to hate the dentist trips. Crystal Lewis of Richmond, Virginia, never expected the trouble that was to come when she brought her son in to the Virginia Commonwealth University dental clinic on Tuesday, May 11.

Lewis brought her son, six-year-old Jacobi Hill, to the VCU clinic to get several teeth capped. According to Hill's family, his pediatrician had okay'd him for sedation. When a breathing tube was removed, Hill suffered a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the VCU Medical Center, however staff were unable to revive him.

While VCU declines to give interviews, a spokesperson released the following statement: "Virginia Commonwealth University wants to understand what happened in connection with the tragic event involving a pediatric patient. Our internal investigation continues, and we are awaiting the results of the autopsy conducted by the Virginia Office of the Medical Examiner. We have been in contact with the patient’s family, and will continue to be available to them. VCU complies with requirements governing the administration of general anesthesia during dental procedures, and professional emergency care is immediately available in our dental clinics and facilities."

One week later, however, Crystal Lewis is still trying to find answers. She said that her older son, Keyon Hill, had the same procedure earlier this year with no complications.

While all sedation carries risks, the levels of dental sedation vary by which procedures are being performed and how much the patient moves.

"It's used thousands of times every day," said Indru Punwani, a spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Robert Campbell, a pediatric oral surgeon at Virginia Dental and Anesthesia Associates, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the most common cause of death in dental offices under anesthesia is related to an airway condition.

In the upper airway, "the most common problem is that the vocal cords go into a spasm and shut down," said Campbell. He states this upper airway problem could possibly be related to an allergic reaction. The next most common issue would involve the lower airway, in an asthma-like attack.

Though the autopsy was performed Thursday, the state medical examiner's office told the media it could take weeks to determine the cause and manner of death. The Virginia Medicaid Agency is currently investigating the death as well.

This is a truly unfortunate and tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the Lewis family as they work through the complexities of the investigations into Hill’s death.

Chronic tinnitus is a condition that is symptomized by an irritating buzzing racket in the ears. While there are many prescribed medicines available for treating the condition, not all of them seem to be effective, not at least in the long run. Fortunately, there are several chronic tinnitus natural cures which can help you get rid of the problem.

The vast majority of people suffering from the condition in fact prefer natural cures to chronic tinnitus since there is virtually no chance of negative side effects involved with them. Here is a list of natural cures that can help you to get quick relief from the irritating noise in your ears: -

1. Natural herbs are known to be very efficient in treating the condition. Many of these natural products are eaten by hundreds of thousands of people world-wide. They include pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds.

2. Vitamin supplements can help you in treating the ailment.

3. There are certain types of foods that you need to avoid at all costs if you seek a cure from chronic tinnitus. Processed foods should be avoided, as should dairy products and foods containing concentrated fats also need to be avoided, since they are believed to exacerbate the condition. Avoiding refined sugar is also advised since it helps in stimulating the body's natural therapeutic process.

4. Blood pressure is also a major concern in instances of chronic tinnitus. Blood pressure can be controlled through the abstention of alcohol and smoking, which in themselves can play In order to maintain the correct blood pressure it is important that you abstain from smoking, as well as completely avoid or limit your intake of alcohol too.

5. It is important that you devise an exercise plan suiting your requirements and stick to it. Exercise might include a relaxing jog, early morning swim, or a brisk walk.

6. Chronic tinnitus can be encouraged by a variety of things, such as exposure to very loud music or loud sounds at work, such as drillng or digging machines. An obvious prevention treatment would inlcude wearing ear plugs in very noisy working condtions. The key point to remember here, is to avoid placing yourself in such situations.

To recap, this short piece, has set out to tell readers that before considering invasive and often pricey treatments when attempting to cure their chronic ear ringing, they should at first judge the natural cures that are widely available to them, as this may not only aid them to avoid such risky treatments, but also may aid them to save on the added expense, whilst achieving the overall end result of ridding themselves from chronic tinnitus forever.

Looking for a Cosmetic Dentist in the UK? by Kathryn Dawson

Cosmetic dentistry is a relatively new phenomenon in the UK. The idea of having a dazzling white smile used to be something only afforded by the rich and famous, however as prices have come down more and more people are turning their thoughts to cosmetic dentistry. The technological advancements in the area of cosmetic dentistry have been vast over the past few years and now there are a large number of procedures available for anyone to take advantage of. This article provides information about what treatments are available and what is involved in each.

One of the most popular treatments in the UK is straightforward tooth whitening. It is very easy for teeth to become stained over the years, especially if you are a red wine drinker, coffee lover or smoker. Now there are effective treatments available for removing the discolouration. Your teeth can be brought back to their pearly white appearance of youth with tooth whitening. There are products available over the counter that claim to do the job well, however it is always better to seek advice from your dentist before using these. Over the counter products can strip the teeth of their enamel and leave the teeth extremely sensitive too. Having it professionally done will not only make sure the job is done better but you have peace of mind that your teeth are not being damaged in the long term.

Porcelain veneers are another procedure that can provide you with a perfect set of teeth. This procedure involves placing a porcelain covering on every tooth that is strong and of course white and straight. If you suffer from teeth that are not very straight or are severely discoloured then this might be a good solution for you. There are a few considerations to make however before having this done. Although the procedure sounds simple enough, it is in fact not reversible. In order to fit the veneers a small amount of enamel must be shaved off from each tooth and once this has been done your natural teeth no longer look good without the veneers. Porcelain veneers have also been known to break off. There may well be ongoing costs with veneers therefore as replacements need to be sought or broken coverings fixed.

Dental implants are a great way of replacing missing teeth. This involves having a titanium root inserted into the jaw and a prosthetic tooth attached to it once it has fused entirely with the bone. This is only possible when the bone is strong enough however, so you should check with your dentist to see if you are a suitable candidate for this type of work. Crowns are another good solution to improving the appearance of your teeth. Neither dental implants nor crowns are nearly as severe as having porcelain veneers fitted. If you are needing to have braces fitted then it is possible to have invisible braces these days. Having braces can be difficult for children and especially adults as it can make them very self-conscious so invisible braces are a good solution if this sounds like you. Although they are more expensive than traditional types they can boost confidence and ensure you are left with perfectly straight teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry was once for the Hollywood A-listers only, but now anyone can benefit from tooth whitening, porcelain veneers or invisible braces. If you are interested in having some cosmetic dentistry in the UK done then the first step to take is talking to your dentist. They will be able to tell you what treatments are appropriate and what is involved in the procedures. Consider all possible ongoing costs before undertaking surgery as you may need continued work in the future on anything you have done.

Be Your Own Herbal Expert - Pt 5 by Susun Weed

Herbal medicine is the medicine of the people. It is simple, safe, effective, and free. Our ancestors used - and our neighbors around the world still use - plant medicines for healing and health maintenance. It's easy. You can do it too, and you don't need a degree or any special training. Ancient memories arise in you when you begin to use herbal medicine - memories which keep you safe and fill you with delight. These lessons are designed to nourish and activate your inner herbalist so you can be your own herbal expert.

In our first session, we learned how to "listen" to the messages of plant's tastes. In session two, we learned about simples and how to make effective water-based herbal remedies. The third session helped us distinguish safe nourishing and tonifying herbs from the more dangerous stimulating and sedating herbs. Our fourth session focused on poisons in herbs and herbal tinctures, which we made and then collected into an Herbal Medicine Chest.

In this, our fifth session, we will find out how to help ourselves and our families with herbal vinegars, one of the green blessings of the Wise Woman Way.

Herbal vinegars are an unstoppable combination: they marry the healing and nutritional properties of apple cider vinegar with the mineral and antioxidant richness of health-protective green herbs and wild roots. Herbal vinegars are tasty medicine, enriching and enlivening our food while building health from the inside out.

Herbal vinegars are far better for the bones and the heart than soy beverages. They have a reputation for banishing grey hair and wrinkles. Sprayed in the armpits, herbal vinegars are highly effective deodorants. As a hair rinse (try rosemary or lavender vinegar) they add luster and eliminate split ends.

Anything vinegar can do, including clean the kitchen, herbal vinegars can do better.

Minerals are important for the health and proper functioning of our bones, our heart and blood vessels, our nerves, our brain (especially memory), our immune system, and our hormonal glands. No wonder lack of minerals can lead to chronic problems and getting more can make a big difference in health in a few weeks. One of the best ways to get more minerals - besides drinking nourishing herbal infusions and eating well-cooked leafy greens - is to use herbal vinegars.

It is not true that ingesting vinegar will erode your bones. Adding vinegar to your food actually helps build bones because it frees up minerals from the vegetables you eat and increases the ability of the stomach to digest minerals. Adding a splash of vinegar to cooked greens is a classic trick of old ladies who want to be spry and flexible when they're ancient old ladies. (Maybe your granny already taught you this?) In fact, a spoonful of vinegar on your broccoli or kale or dandelion greens increases the calcium you get by one-third. All by itself, apple cider vinegar is said to help build bones; when enriched with minerals from herbs, I think of it as better than calcium pills.

Some people worry that eating vinegar will upset the balance of gut flora and contribute to an overgrowth of candida yeast in the intestines. Some people have been told to avoid vinegar altogether. My experience has led me to believe that herbal vinegars help heal those with candida overgrowth, perhaps because they're so mineral rich. I've worked with women who have suffered for years and kept to a strict "anti-candida" diet with little improvement, and seen them get better fast when they add nourishing herbal vinegars (and fermented foods such as sauerkraut, miso, and yogurt) to their diets.

Fill any size jar with fresh-cut aromatic herbs: leaves, stalks, flowers, fruits, roots, and even nuts can be used. For best results and highest mineral content, be sure the jar is well filled and chop the herb finely.

Pour room-temperature vinegar into the jar until it is full. Cover jar: A plastic screw-on lid, several layers of plastic or wax paper held on with a rubber band, or a cork are the best covers. Avoid metal lids - or protect them well with plastic - as vinegar will corrode them.

Label the jar with the name of the herb and the date. Put it some place away from direct sunlight, though it doesn't have to be in the dark, and someplace that isn't too hot, but not too cold either. A kitchen cupboard is fine, but choose one that you open a lot so you remember to use your vinegar, which will be ready in six weeks.

You can decant your vinegar into a beautiful serving container, or use it right from the jar you made it in.

Which Vinegar?

I use regular pasteurized apple cider vinegar from the supermarket as the menstrum for my herbal vinegars. I avoid white vinegar. Malt vinegar, rice vinegar, and wine vinegar can be used but they are more expensive and may overpower the flavor of the herbs.

Apple cider vinegar has been used as a health-giving agent for centuries. Hippocrates, father of medicine, is said to have used only two remedies: honey and apple cider vinegar. Some of the many benefits of apple cider vinegar include: better digestion, reduction of cholesterol, improvements in blood pressure, prevention/care of osteoporosis, normalization of thyroid/metabolic functioning, possible reduction of cancer risk, and lessening of wrinkles and grey hair.

Notes for Herbal Vinegar Makers

 Collect jars of different sizes for your vinegars. I especially like baby food jars, mustard jars, olive jars, peanut butter jars and individual juice jars. Look for plastic lids.

 The wider the mouth of the jar, the easier it will be to remove the plant material when you're done.

 Always fill jar to the top with plant material and vinegar; never fill a jar only part way.

 Really fill the jar. This will take far more herb or root than you would think. How much? With leaves and stems, make a comfortable mattress for a fairy: not too tight; not too loose. With roots, fill your jar to within a thumb's width of the top.

 After decanting your vinegar into a beautiful jar, add a spring of whole herb. Pretty.

Pick the needles of white pine on a sunny day. Make herbal vinegar with them. Inhale deeply the scent of the forest. I call this my "homemade balsamic vinegar."

Herbal vinegars taste so good, you'll want to use them frequently. Regular use boosts the nutrient level of your diet with very little effort and virtually no expense.

 Pour a spoonful or more on beans and grains as a condiment.

 Use them in salad dressings.

 Add them to cooked greens.

 Season stir-fries with them.

 Look for soups that are vinegar friendly, like borscht.

 Substitute herbal vinegar for plain vinegar in any recipe.

 Put a big spoonful in a glass of water and drink it. Try it sweetened with blackstrap molasses for a real mineral jolt. Many older women swear this "coffee substitute" prevents and eases their arthritic pains.

In our next sessions we will learn more about herbal medicine making, with a focus on oils, explore the difference between fixing disease and promoting health, learn how to apply the three traditions of healing, and how to take charge of our own health care with the six steps of healing.

Test vinegar's ability to absorb minerals. Put a fresh bone in a jar and completely cover it with vinegar. What happens? Does the bone become pliable and rubbery? How long does it take? Will eating vinegar dissolve your bones? Only if you take off your skin and sit in it for weeks!

Make eggshell vinegar. Fill a jar one-quarter full of vinegar. Drop crushed eggshell into it. What happens? Does the vinegar foam? How long does it take? Eggshells are exceptionally rich in bone-building minerals. Can you taste the calcium in this vinegar? Add some eggshell to your other vinegars if you wish to increase their ability to keep your bones strong.

Make four or more vinegars with the same plant, using different types of vinegar, including both pasteurized and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. (For the others, use rice vinegar, malt vinegar, wine vinegar, or even white vinegar, but not umeboshi vinegar.)

Taste your vinegars daily for a week, then weekly for five more weeks. You may, if you wish, decant some of your vinegars for use after six weeks. But you may also wish to keep observing them as they age (for years, if you wish). I have some vinegars which are more than thirty years old and still in good shape. Note which stay edible the longest, and what happens to those that become inedible.

Buy a quart or more of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. Use two cups to make several small herbal vinegars: one with roots, one with leaves, and one with flowers. Boil the other two cups. Make one herbal vinegar with the boiling hot vinegar. Make another with the boiled vinegar after it has cooled. Continue as in experiment number three.

1. Redo experiment number two using different kinds of eggshells - white ones and brown ones, store-bought and farm-bought, from caged birds and free-range birds. Can you see any differences? Taste or smell any differences?

2. Make vinegars at different times of the year and compare them.

 Unpasteurized vinegar can form a "mother." In a jar filled with herb and vinegar, the vinegar mother usually grows across the top of the herb, and looking rather like a damp, thin pancake. Kombucha is a vinegar mother. Does your local health food store sell mothers? Kombucha? What is a vinegar mother? Is it harmful?

 What is an ionic form of a mineral?

 What is a mineral salt?

 How do our bodies take up and utilize minerals?

Diet Plans And Menus - The Glycemic Index Diet by Levi Reiss

The Glycemic Index Diet, also known as the G I Diet, was created by Rick Gallop. The glycemic index is a measure of blood sugar level. During digestion glucides are transformed into glucose. Reducing the GI level helps you lose weight. Low-GI foods such as dried apricots, dark chocolate, fruit, whole-grain rice, and cheese have a GI less than 55. High GI foods such as French fries, white rice, and watermelon have a GI greater than 70 and should be avoided. This diet has two phases. The first phase lasts between 15 days and a month. The second phase may last a lifetime. Here are some of the principles.

Eat foods with a low GI. During the initial phase eat 4 to 5 portions of fish without sauce, one or two portions of meat also without sauce, one or two eggs, and one or two portions of ham weekly. Eat all the vegetables and legumes and drink all the water and green tea that you want. You should accompany your main meal with three fruits daily. During phase 2 continue these habits but add one or two portions of daily products (preferably light) and one or two chocolate squares daily. Add whole-grain cereals and breads, and basmati rice in moderation. Accompany the grains and rice with green vegetables. The following principles apply to both of the phases. Use colza, olive, and walnut oils. Drink only water, tea without sugar, or a maximum of two glasses of red wine daily. Eat three meals and up to two snacks a day but don't graze. Keep mealtime stress free. Walk for an hour a day and exercise three more hours a week.

The Glycemic Index Diet is said to have several benefits for diabetics. It also claims to fight against aging, cancer, and some cardio-vascular illnesses. The disadvantage is reviewing and changing food habits.

Here are two sample menus:

Menu 1 (Phase 1)

Breakfast: Green Tea. Two clementines. A slice of ham.

Lunch: Grated carrots. Cod. Green beans. Half a cantaloupe.

Supper: Tomato salad with basil, asparagus, and spinach. Tomatoes provencale. Lentils. A Nectarine.

Menu 2 (Phase 2)

Breakfast: Tea. Oatmeal. A glass of milk. Half a grapefruit.

Lunch: Endive and walnut salad. A thick salmon filet. Three tablespoons of whole-grain rice. Spinach. Grapes.

Supper: Split pea soup. A lean hamburger. Mixed vegetables. Two kiwis.

Some information in this article comes from a fascinating new book, La Bible des Regimes, written by Jenny de Jonquieres and published by Amerik Media. Her book describes over 80 diets and weight reduction programs. Each diet is presented with 5 menu plans, a detailed discussion of its advantages and disadvantages, and a whole lot more. La Bible des Regimes is available only in French at present.

When Choosing Health Insurance Providers There Are Factors To Be Considered by Jeff Schuman

Having health insurance is something that everyone needs because life can throw you a curve you don't expect. You have to understand some factors that are important to consider so you can choose the best provider for you from the health insurance providers available.

The following are the factors that have to be considered if you want to choose the best provider and the best health insurance plan.

One: Decide on the coverage that will be needed - Before you can get insurance with any provider, you have to first understand what coverage you will need. If it is possible, you want to get coverage for unexpected medical conditions because an accident or sudden health condition can happen to anyone at any time.

You also have to be sure you take into consideration any other medical expenses you will have in your life, including major expenses. Always check into more than one provider and policy before choosing what you want.

Two: Cost - This is always something you need to take into consideration. You have to be sure that the plan you choose to get is within your price range that you can easily afford. It is a good idea to take time to get some free quotes for this type of insurance.

This will allow you the chance to compare the prices so you can find the one that is the most affordable for you.

Three: Customer service - When choosing a provider, many people never take this into consideration. It is important to consider it because if you have to make a claim or have a problem or question, you will need help.

Without good customer service it is not worth paying for the insurance because you will never be able to reach anyone that can help you if you should ever need the coverage. Always be sure the provider you choose has the customer support that you need.

Four: Prompt handling - This is again something that most people never consider, but it is important to. It will not be worth it to you if the insurance provider is slow about offering you help.

This will leave you with many problems you don't need at this time in your life. You have to always be sure that you find a provider that is always prompt with their handling for your own benefit.

Now that you understand these factors, you have to be sure that you take them into consideration when you search for health insurance providers. This will help you easily find the provider that is right for you that can provide you with the best health care coverage for you.

Menopause Night Sweats - Facts You Need To Know So You Can Deal With This by Jeff Schuman

Are you finding yourself waking up in the night covered by sweat, but are not sure what could be causing this problem? There are many women that deal with this same problem, but the answer to what you are experiencing could be menopause night sweats.

For anyone that is not sure that this is what you are dealing with, it is important that you understand exactly what this is. It is basically when you go to sleep at night and wake up to find your clothes or bed sheets are damp or soaking wet.

The sweats can hit you at any time of the night, for any reason. It doesn't have to be because you are sleeping in a warm room or anything like that. It is an abrupt and severe change in your body temperature which can cause you to sweat for no reason.

When a woman goes through the change, your body will lose estrogen. This will cause your body to be confused and will make your body temperature change, which will cause night sweats.

The cooler you can make it in the room and the cooler you can make yourself will help to minimize the sweats you wake up with each night.

2. Relax your body before sleep - When you can relax your body before sleep, you will be able to minimize this problem also. Try exercising if that is what works for you.

Some women also use meditation to help them with this problem. So that you don't wake up as often with this problem, it will help you go to sleep easier and will help keep your mind and body relaxed.

3. Talk to your doctor - You have to talk to your doctor because they will know the best things that can be done for you, individually to get rid of this problem.

Now that you know these facts about menopause night sweats and how to deal with them, you are more prepared to ensure that you can get a good night's sleep without all the sweating. It is important to know that night sweats will not last the rest of your life, so if you can find a way to deal with them, then they will eventually go away for good.

5 Things You Can Do To Lower Your Cholesterol Naturally by James S Pendergraft

Cholesterol has become a problem for so many people in the world. It can cause issues when a person develops heart problem. So, it's important to control its levels because it can take your life. Now, cardiologists have even suggested that people, who are more than 20 years old, should be checked for artery blocking levels once in half a decade. If some people have heart diseases in the family, then the frequency of this check up should be even more. But, the danger levels also depend on the kind of cholesterol that you have in the body. It's tough to control the levels of bad cholesterol rather than good cholesterol. The levels of good cholesterol can be controlled by making simple changes in the lifestyle. A faster reduction can be brought out by drug therapies. Drug therapies can control the cholesterol in a time period of 6 weeks only.

Even use of lower saturated fat can also cause reduction of cholesterol in the body. Such saturated sources are eggs and foods which contain cholesterol in large amounts. Such foods include red meat and butter. Exercise is the best way to get rid of high cholesterol.

Patients can also decrease cholesterol by consuming more vegetables and fruits. It's because such substances include whole grains which contain antioxidants. They can help in the reduction of cholesterol. In fact, such fiber can help in sucking up the built cholesterol levels in the body. Many sources of fibers like oats, barley are responsible for decreasing such cholesterol levels.

Although some of the people feel quite sad when they hear about their high cholesterol levels, they can make an analysis of many factors before reducing it. The reduction also depends on many kinds of factors which include smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Such risk factors make you more susceptible to a heart disease. Even if this disease is a part of the family's legacy, then you are more likely to contract it. So, the doctors can recognize your risk of getting this disease after analyzing all these factors. So, doctors advise a quicker reduction when they find about such factors. They can ask for a reduction in the LDL to 70. But, the figure won't be much low if you are not vulnerable towards the disease. So, the LDL reduction can be only till 130.

Although lifestyle modifications can also bring about the changes, it's better to opt for drugs. It's because drugs can cause a faster depletion of the cholesterol levels. There are many kinds of drugs which can induce a reduction in the level of cholesterol. So, although any person should try to reduce his smoking habits and lose weight they however can't bring out much change in the cholesterol levels. Such changes are sufficient only for people who don't have much high cholesterol levels, for others using drugs is important. Some kinds of medications which can cause reduction in the levels of cholesterol are niacin, fibrates and bile acid resins. Such medicine s can cause great reduction s especially statins which can produce changes by 20 to 50 %.

Mad Cow NOT Bad Cow!

I don't know which of the biggest headlines are being read right now… Mad Cow or New Diets for a New Year (but I have my suspicions!).
HOWEVER ~ let's look a little further at REAL statistics… and do a little "common sense" comparison here… (by the way, common sense seems to have disappeared completely in this great land of ours)!
We look at the number of deaths in the all-out Mad Cow "epidemic", if you will, in Britain… number of deaths connected to it… approximately 130. Shall we just mention here the deaths that we are suffering RIGHT NOW from diabetes and obesity?
So… let's have a little closer look at that big animal in those green fields, contently chewing his cud and rolling those big, brown eyes…
Some of you will get to this part of this article and toss it… so have a nice day! Some others of you will be curious and continue to read…
How much do you know about our friend "the cow"? I'll bet not much except that you prefer rib eye steak over NY Strip and that you buy hamburger when it is on sale and, and, and…
Do you know the nutritional value that the "cow" brings to us? In addition to proteins, iron, zinc and vitamins B6 and B12, beef contains omega-3 fatty acids that are essential for life and gives us strong protection and immunities from vascular diseases!
Our friends, the cows, were designed to eat grasses and grains that were also designed for our diets!
HOWEVER ~ our Creator made the COW very special! What do you know about a cow's stomach?
Did you know that a cow's stomach contains four rumination pouches that secrete many kinds of bacteria in digesting the grasses and grains that a cow eats?
You say, "who cares"?
Well, let me tell you that we should care and why… these bacteria in the digestion process in the cow are competing during the process for nutrients, nutrients, utrients! In this miraculous process harmful bacteria is crowded out… parasites are destroyed… viruses are obliterated… and nasty toxins are literally knocked out BEFORE they reach the very flesh of the COW!
The awesome design of the digestive system of the cow brings to us "flesh with purified nutrients"!
In turn, our consumption of COWS that have been range-fed, organic and chemical free protect us from harmful effects of triglycerides and cholesterol!
Now I am REALLY going to lose some readers… as most of us know, in nutrition, meats are great sources of complete protein. However, because hormones, antibiotics and pesticides enter the picture of raising beef the Great Design of the Creator is altered. This is NOT the way it was meant to be.
My message to you: Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!
I found a great quote from What the Bible Says About Healthy Living by Rex Russell, MD, that I would like to share with you:

Have Your Greatest Orgasm - Ever!

Multiple Orgasms! You've heard of them, probably. Wondered about them, maybe. Attempted them, never -- most likely. And why not? If you can have one successful orgasm, you can have two or three or more. In fact, even if you have never been able to satisfactorily negotiate a single, you can still learn to have multiples.
In terms of orgasms, more is definitely better. Here's why.
A single orgasm is usually reached in a matter of seconds or minutes, leaving little time for attending to the individual needs and fantasies of the partners involved. Multiple orgasms, by contrast, build slowly, allowing them to address a myriad of individual desires.
A single orgasm, riding the wave of naturally released sleep hormones, depletes a man's energy and sends him straight into slumber mode. In multiple orgasms, the longer they last, the stronger the payoff, yet they still manage to re-energize mind, body and soul, allowing for more effective after-play and intimacy.
A single orgasm is known to come in a variety of intensities, from a mere fizzle to a firestorm. Multiples produce firestorms as a minimum and build up significantly from there.
A single orgasm leaves a man languishing for hours or even days, depending on age and state of health. With a multiple, he can be up and ready for an encore immediately thereafter.
A single orgasm is a nice thing to have when time is an issue or there are no alternatives, which clearly there are. Why so few choose to talk about it, let alone investigate, is puzzling. Is it so intimidating to the nature of the solution-seeking male that just because a task can be accomplished in a matter of seconds doesn't mean it ought to be?
Let's dispel the myths of irrational thinking right now with a few simple rules based on a deeply cherished secret. Follow them, practice them, and believe in them, and the greatest mind-blowing orgasms will become a permanent part of your vastly more glorious universe.
Know your body. Become intimately acquainted with those regions of flesh and sinew that awaken you sexually. Manipulate them with your hands, your mind, anything comforting that gives you joy.
Breathe slowly, rhythmically, taking in pure pleasure, letting go of stress and inhibition.
The more you practice delayed gratification, the more effectively you resist the short-term indulgence of single orgasms for the long-term ecstasy of multiples.
The PC (pubococcygeal) muscle offers you the double advantage of delaying orgasm and heightening pleasure. The stronger it becomes the greater satisfaction you will derive from your orgasms. Flex your PC four times a day, 20 to 30 times each, and increase gradually, Test it whenever you have an urgency to urinate, since this multi-talented muscle controls that bodily function, as well.
Explore those stimuli around you that cause you to become aroused, excited, and ultimately engaged in an advance toward orgasm.
Once you have learned how to postpone ejaculation, you are ready to share your secrets with your partner.
Introduce techniques gradually, postponing climax to accommodate your mutual needs and desires, while extending your enjoyment indefinitely.
It cannot be stressed enough that the only way to become an expert at anything is to practice. Fortunately, the practice of sexual skills is more pleasure than pressure, so there's no reason to resist homework. Indulge yourself regularly, knowing you are going to derive the full benefits of your labor. And so will the object of your desire.
You now have an obvious choice. Carry on with the sexual lifestyle you've been practicing till now, or proceed to the one about which you only dared dream -- and which offers the potential to take you places you never knew existed.

A Critical Assessment of Euthanasia

The question of whether, say, a man should have the right to take away his life granted pain and suffering have overcome him is a very important question today. A different way of putting this question is this: 'Should a man have the right to take away his life if he ceases to function as a human being?' This matter would have been laid to rest had it not been that it strikes at the heart of law, key matters of health, and morality. It is a subject that, if not properly addressed, can cause some nasty consequences to the lives of people and pose unwarranted danger to the stability of a society.
The present question bears the amazing name "euthanasia". Those who think that a man, for instance, has the right to take away his life under the condition stated may have some important points to put forward. Yet their points, upon closer inspection, could be seen to be overtly subjective, and, hence, moot.
A man – call him John - should have the right to function properly and contribute, in whichever form, to the collective movement of life. When this primary function is taken away, it ought not bring about a burden to people close to him or to others bearing no direct relation to him. But if his awful suffering prompts others to direct much of their time into taken care of him, then the multiplying effects are huge. The patient in question suffers severely and the others in question suffer mentally and emotionally.
Consider the three children of John who are engaged in skilled jobs. Their respective companies prize them as essential toward the general success of the company. But following the terminal illness of John, they have to spend much time in looking after him. One can see that this state of affair weighs heavily on the creative capacity of John's children. Most likely, it would sting their emotional and mental health as well as their respective financial capacities. Furthermore, if matters of health in the society are largely supported by the state, then much money has to be spent on John to help sustain his life. In fact, the moral bases of these actions are in keeping with the fundamental tenets of human rights. Should the state or John's children do otherwise, one could reasonably argue that the bestial character had controlled the conscience, so too passion. And this would have set a dangerous precedent since the easiness of self-centered life is sometimes valued far more than a hard life full of moral, legal and logical alertness. Most likely, others would follow the morally deficient example set by John's children or the state; and to what extent their actions could be justified would be very hard to estimate. In this light, it is, indeed, very hard to put forward a straightforward answer in favour or against euthanasia.
If one ponders over the role the helpless patient plays in euthanasia, many questions compete for selection. Is John in the right emotional and mental condition to endorse his "compassionate" killing? Are his close relations in agreement with him that he should "compassionately" die? How can one sufficiently ascertain – bitter as this may seem - that John's close relations have not conspired to end his life in order to ease their own (individual) disproportionate stresses in looking after him? In short, who should be trusted when the matter at hand refers to ending a person's life through another agent, whether an expert or a lame person? And even if a medical expert approves, generally, of euthanasia and the specific case of John, how could one determine the motive at stake so as to free euthanasia of any element of suspicion?
It is in confronting such questions that it becomes difficult to justify euthanasia on logical, legal and moral grounds even though some specific instances may be claimed to warrant euthanasia. For assuming the agent himself, say, John, ended his life through his own doing and not through any agent, then one may, fairly quickly, conclude that he did the right thing in order to put excruciating pain to final rest.
Careful thought casts some doubts on the personal action of John. One can, for instance, ask whether John was in the right frame of mind prior to ending his own life or whether he was emotionally stable. And to say that the condition of John is irrelevant to judge the rightness or wrongness of his action may be foolish. It amounts, by a parallel reasoning, to saying that any individual knows best what condition he or she is in and has the sole privilege in correcting that condition, either to enhance life or terminate it. But this contention goes against the fundamentals of reasoning. It is purely a personal contention and does not submit itself to an objective scrutiny in order to free it of crude biases and moral dishonor.
Since one can choose to do to one's own life what one pleases – because of the subjective character of inward life – one could equally claim that it should not matter what kind of person wants to terminate life: a mad or sane person, a minor or an adult, an idiot or a sage, and so on. From this viewpoint, one can see that the previous contention is baseless. Abnormality of any form should not be sanctioned or unduly promoted. That is why people who lack the standard human disposition are often seen as having trodden the path of gross errors and need to be corrected by appropriate means without fail. Danger awaits the society if abnormal persons or premature persons are granted the personal right – not freedom – to take away their own lives, either by themselves or through the mediation of agents. This brings to the fore the point that the sufferer acted, not according to a clear conscience or a composed will-power, but under some kind of pressure, either by being persuaded to end his/her life or by persuading himself/herself. The sufferer, in other words, did not have all the available options at his/her disposal from which to make the ultimate rational choice about the issue of compassionate death. But suppose all the available options were at the sufferer's disposal, it still might not be morally proper to end life as an interventionist procedure was induced.
Think about the point that modern society is full of scientific-technogical facilities that have added a lot of sophistication to the movement of life. A person's life-threatening disease could be artificially controlled or manipulated by using complex machines or genetically engineered medication. Simply applying the sophistication just stated could definitively end a person's life-threatening disease. The moral dilemma that euthanasia brings about in this sense is largely connected to the question of manipulating a condition that leads to the death of the victim. Why should not death be allowed to occur naturally, thereby concluding that what happened was a noble death, a death in dignity? It seems clear that to tamper with this arguable noble death, by artfully and artificially facilitating it, is not in keeping with the natural play of human decency. It is an endeavour that may hint at the progress and development of science and technology; but if issues about cloning are morally questionable, therefore quite a threat to the harmonization of social life, then euthanasia may be viewed in like manner in spite of the scientific-technological creativities that may be advanced in its favour.
Euthanasia may engender the proliferation of all kinds of experiments about medication and medical equipment intended to justify the most effective means of stirring up mercy killing. Such practices will not serve the general interest of the society, for the issue of fame and profit may outweigh the question of selflessness. For example, the medical expert may not engage in the straightforward job of facilitating meaningful death in accordance with the patient's wish, by an act of endorsement, directly or indirectly. The said expert may be more interested in the undeclared motive of testing a medical theory or/and the efficacy of a new drug on the victim. Once success in this area is confirmed, he/she may then continue to nourish the ego and the intellect with more experimentation on many other victims.
The question, then, ought to, finally, be confronted: Should moral, logical and legal matters resolve the rightness or wrongness of euthanasia? Or, should medical and scientific-technological issues decide the rightness or wrongness of euthanasia? If we go by the second point, then we can argue persuasively that it has been largely responsible for the evolution of human beings into the present form. And if the question of morality, law and logic were made to decide human evolution, then we, most likely, would not have been able to reach our current station in terms of advancement. But we are dealing with crucial issues about life and death, and the question of whether euthanasia is right or wrong must, for the present, lie unresolved. Perhaps, since there is no clear-cut answer to this question, the question itself need not be topical; nor should it proliferate. Those who want to practise euthanasia may then be censured.
