How To Gain Weight

How To Gain Weight
 by: Hamoon Arbabi

Until I started following a routine to eat, my gains were minimal. Once I set my eating times to a specific time during the day along with a protein boost, I could see the gains immediately. This sample program is a quick way to get your protein WAY up and generally increase your food intake. But it doesn't require the traditional sit down 6+ a day to eat 30 chicken breasts and spend all day cooking. I've got a full-time job at a corporate office. Cooking isn't an option. Nor is eating 6+ times a day involving meals with Tupperware and the likes. I need food and I need it fast. Try this program on for size and notice the size you just might see.
Meal 1 - 7:00am 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of skim milk 1 serving of whole grain cereal 1 cup of non/low-fat yogurt 1 piece of fruit
Meal 2 - 9:00am 1 serving of whey protein mixed in 10 ounces of water 1 large apple
Meal 3 -12:00pm 2 grilled chicken breasts 1 serving of brown rice 1 cup of low-fat yogurt 1 serving of whey protein
Meal 4 - 3:00pm 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of water and 5-10 grams of L-Glutamine 1 large banana Pre-Workout 1 workout bar of your choice (preferably some carbs and 20+ grams of protein)
Meal 5 - 6:00pm (Post-workout) 1 serving of whey protein combined with 1 5gram serving of Creatine mixed in kool-aid. (This is an important meal and is designed for an insulin spike at just the right time to increase creatine and amino acid uptake by the muscle cells).
Meal 6 -7:00pm 8 to 10 ounces of a lean round or flank steak 1 serving of rice 1 medium baked potato 1 large green salad
Meal 7 - 10:00pm 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of skim milk 1 large banana 3 to 5 grams of L-Glutamine
And that's about it. Simple? You will be significantly increasing the protein uptake. Which means you should be increasing that water consumption as well. I'm not a fan of waking up at 1:00am to get more protein and therefore, I did not include anything beyond 10:00pm. I've noticed some significant gains from this program. My workouts were hardcore but my nutrition was lacking. By putting my eating times to a set schedule, I felt better during the day and was even more ready to tackle that workout later in the day.
Good luck,

Take Action Now and Achieve Your Goals

Take Action Now and Achieve Your Goals
 by: Hamoon Arbabi

TAKE ACTION!
I swear, it seems as if there are more opinions regarding fat loss than there are people. It's amazing. What's even more amazing (and frustrating), is that most of them are wrong, if not downright dangerous.
There is just way too much information for you to even get started with a successful program, sometimes known as "information overload".
There is so much information and so many differing opinions that you never even get yourself started. Or, you get started, but never give any particular program a chance, instead going from one to the other, in a "shot gun" approach, never giving anything a chance to make progress.
You need to pick a sensible program and decide to stick with it for a long enough period of time that you can measure your results, or lack thereof.
If you're like most people, fear, doubt and confusion are preventing you from moving forward and tackling your fat loss goals. This prevents too many people from achieving their goals in life, whether it be a successful career, or building their body.
Everyone feels the fear and doubt. The difference is that successful people move forward anyway and use these things as motivators to help them achieve their goals.
Do something! Hit the gym. Eat that nutritious meal.
You don't have to know everything to get started. Do a few weight exercises a couple of days a week, drop one thing in your diet that you know you shouldn't have. You can fine tune your program as you go, doing more and more of the things you need to do.
Forget about whether supplement a is better than supplement b or if turkey is better than chicken or should you have whey protein with casein or take them separately.
If you aren't doing the fundamentals correctly, these things just don't matter. This goes back to a previous article I wrote where I stated that things such as narrow grip, wide grip, etc. won't mean a thing if there are major flaws in the fundamentals of your training program.
Forget about which supplement is better for what, whether you should be riding the bike or hitting the treadmill, if turkey has less fat than chicken.
Master the fundamentals first!
The fundamentals of fat loss include:
Perform high intensity weight training,
Burn more calories than you consume
Eat 5-6 small, frequent meals and never skip meals,
Taken in a few tablespoons of good fats such as flax seed or sunflower
Eat natural foods; avoid processed & refined foods
Drink a lot of water
Eat more fibrous carbs, fruits & vegetables,
Consume at least 1 gram of protein per pound of lean body mass
Perform high intensity cardio
If you're not doing all these things, and you're looking for the perfect supplement stack or the optimum periodization plan, then you are just setting yourself up for failure from the beginning.
Fitness Is A Lifestyle, Not A Diet
Do you know what is the biggest fat loss mistake made by beginners?
As many of you are aware, gym memberships always shoot up in January and February. All of the sudden, you can't get the equipment you want without a long wait. Don't worry, as you move into March, most of the newcomers will be gone because they've quit.
Results may come slowly for most of you, unless you are genetically blessed.
But if you stick with it long enough, if you resolve to make it a lifestyle and not a quick fix, you will get the results that you want.

The Benefits of Protein Powders

The Benefits of Protein Powders
 by: Hamoon Arbabi

I know protein is good for me, but do I need a supplement? Whey, egg, casein and soy — which one protein is right for me and what does each one do?
Let's get the facts straight. Protein exists in virtually everything that moves and makes sounds, or in almost any animal. Primary dietary protein sources include fish, eggs, chicken, pork, beef, venison, buffalo and many other wild animals.
But which is the best source of protein? Ah, the million dollar question. As with any supplement, no protein powder will match what Mother Nature provides on earth. Natural proteins deliver more quality nutrients to your body than any protein powder ever could. Still, protein powders do have their place.
Scientist have come a long way in their development of protein supplements, including how they taste. Even recently, the best you could hope for with a protein shake was that you could choke it down in spite of its chalky taste and consistency. Now they actually taste good. Today there are plenty of protein powders and meal replacement shakes on the market. The key is finding the best quality products with the highest level of bioavailability.
Your primary source of protein should be meat, fish, poultry, eggs and other seafood. The protein source should be organic and grass-fed, free-range or wild. These furnish the body with the highest quality protein, provided that they are not cooked, or cooked very lightly, because heat denatures protein (kills proteins).
Other sources include commercial meats, farm-raised fish, and other genetically modified organisms like soy. Protein also can be found in other foods like nuts, legumes, some veggies and certain grains. However, your best sources of protein for packing on the muscle are organic meat and fish.
Protein shakes or meal replacements should be the last place you should look to fulfill your body's protein requirements. Although they can be beneficial, remember, nothing beats Mother Nature's proteins — not even a scientist-developed protein — for making you healthy and strong. Protein supplements are particularly useful for vegans, vegetarians and non-meat eaters, as well as for people with problems digesting heavy proteins or whose lifestyle prevents them from consuming proteins during the day.
A protein drink or meal-replacement shake is a great morning meal for those get-up-and-go types who only are short on time but understand how important breakfast is to losing fat and gaining muscle. Breakfast is the most important meal of any healthy diet, so a quick protein shake is a must for people who just don't have time to prepare a good breakfast.
The best protein powders or shakes are made from egg or whey. Use casein, protein from dairy products, sparingly. Avoid soy proteins, as these are the cheapest products you can buy and typically are genetically modified. Genetic modification means scientists have altered the organism from its natural state, a practice discouraged by most non-soy-paid scientists. Do your own independent research if you like, but always consider the source. Take with a grain of salt the comments of "specialists" who are paid by companies to say theirs is the best stuff for your body.
Remember, these are general protein recommendations. If there's something on this list that you are allergic to, that obviously would not be a good product for you. A food allergy test is recommended before you begin any supplementation program to determine if you have specific allergies and if there are particular substances your body has problems processing.
One last note: All the protein in the world won't help you if your body is deprived of other nutrients, such as essential vitamins and minerals. For optimal health, make sure you consume enough protein, eat organic and supplement with a great multivitamin.
The Number One Recommended Protein Products that will deliver your body the highest amounts of quality protein. These Supplements will give you the most gains and help you lose the most fat.

The Best Protein Powder

The Best Protein Powder
 by: Hamoon Arbabi

What is the best protein powder to buy? I get this question all the time, and really, there is no best protein - many are very good for different reasons! In my opinion, it is futile and possibly detrimental to stick to only one brand for the following reasons:
a) I always recommend that you cycle your supplements so that your body does not get used to them thereby decreasing their effect,
b) for variety sakes alone, it breaks the monotony and allows you to try different brands,
c) to take advantage of the unique qualities offered by various brands, and
d) it is a good idea to switch the powders you use on a frequent basis to not develop any food intolerances or even worse allergies (I have an article coming out on this subject in the near future.) A blend that combines various protein sources (i.e. casein, egg, whey, and even beef if you can find it) is your best bet. I highly recommend the following: MD+ Myosin Protein Complex, Beverly International Muscle Provider, Biotest Low-Carb GROW!, and Dorian Yates Approved ProPeptide.
High-quality whey protein powders are excellent choices for post- workout nutrition since they get into your system fast to feed those depleted muscles. Casein, on the other hand, is a slow releasing protein as it recurdles into a solid in your gut prolonging digestion - this would be an ideal choice prior to your workouts or before going to bed. Anyhow, as far as whey powders are concerned, amino acid complex profile determines quality. I have in my possession a list of protein powders that were analyzed for quality by an independent laboratory, but since I don't want any of these companies breathing down my neck, I will only divulge that information to my clients. Remember one thing, you get what you pay for! Keep that in mind. Also, some people are quite sensitive to aspartame and lactose so you will have to find free versions of those. Taste will ultimately determine whether you purchase that powder again. Write in with some of your feedback on these products - I'd love to hear your comments.
One more thing, you could even mix protein powder into other foods to up the protein content and improve the flavor. Mixing protein powder in (slow-cooked) oatmeal is one option, but here's another. I call it my "bedtime concoction." Add a scoop of Xtreme Formulations Ultra Peptide (vanilla) to a mixture of ricotta (whey) and cottage (casein) cheese. Not only does this provide both an anabolic and anticatabolic effect during sleep, it also tastes amazing - it's like eating the cream filling of a cannoli without the pastry shell! Try it.

Mesothelioma: Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Lawsuits

Mesothelioma: Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Lawsuits
 by: David Arnold Livingston

What is Mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that grows on the mesothelium, the membrane or protective sac that surrounds the various organs of the body. It guards the organs by producing a special type of fluid to promote mobility of the organs. In the case of the lungs, mesothelium fluid allows ease in the movement when taking in air. Mesothelioma tumor can start on any area of the mesothelium which can be benign or cancerous. Known to be the cause of Mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos is a heat resistant fibrous mineral used in the industry as the main material in making roofing, gasket compounds, floor tiles and patching compounds. Its versatility makes it a component of various products in the market but it is extremely dangerous once inhaled no matter how small the quantity may be. Inhaled asbestos fiber can pass through the air passages which can come in contact with linings of the lungs which can injure the cells and result to pleural Mesothelioma. Swallowed asbestos on the other hand can affect the fibers lined up on the abdominal cavity resulting to peritoneal Mesothelioma. There are also evidences that link Mesothelioma with Thorotrast, a component used for X-rays but its usage has been stopped for a long time.
The symptoms and signs of Mesothelioma can be very common that is why the patient may just take it for granted. The symptoms may happen from two to three months before Mesothelioma is detected. Pleural Mesothelioma is the commonly occurring type which takes part in almost two thirds of the total detected Mesothelioma cases. The linings of the lungs and chest called pleura are the affected regions of Pleural Mesothelioma. Common signs are weight loss but not related with shift in diet, extreme tiredness, difficulty in swallowing, raspy or hoarse voice, constant shortness of breath, cough that have lasted for a long time, pain the chest or back, extreme sweating and recurring fever. For Peritoneal Mesothelioma, commonly affected organs of the body are bowel, liver and spleen with signs that are similar to bowel related diseases. Early symptoms include pain on the belly area, recurring constipation or diarrhea, increase in the waist area, nausea, vomiting, fever and even anemia. Anyone who encounters these symptoms that have been exposed to asbestos can better consult their doctor for diagnosis to prevent further Mesothelioma complicated problems.
Prevention of Mesothelioma can be best done by avoiding contact with asbestos which is proven to be its main causing agent. Asbestos is found almost everywhere may it be at home, at work or in any public buildings. Workers involved with it must take extra care and precautions to avoid contact through inhalation or swallowing. Low rates of Mesothelioma cases are detected for the past 20 years but nowadays, the number of affected individuals has been growing to a large degree. In United States almost 2,000 new cases are detected each year. It occurs mostly with men since they are commonly the ones involved in business and cases that involve the use of asbestos. Factory workers, miners, railroad laborers, gas mask makers, insulation workers and ship builders are the commonly asbestos related victims.
The patients or the individuals affected with Mesothelioma can file lawsuits against asbestos makers, manufacturers and employers since they have the duty to protect their workers from the negative effects of asbestos including Mesothelioma. Several law firms and lawyers are now available to help the sufferers fight for their right and to attain the justice that they deserve.

Skin Care Secrets . You can have Beautiful Skin

Skin Care Secrets – You can have Beautiful Skin
 by: Chileshe Mwape

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, just like your heart or your kidney. Its job is to protect your insides so it is important for it to be healthy. If you eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water, keep it clean, and protect it from the sun, your skin will stay healthy all your life.
A skin care program is the combination of skin care products and a routine that will be most beneficial to the skin. You will first need to consider your diet and type of life-style since these two factors play an important role in the health of a person's skin.
Diet - Eat Well
What you put into your body has a huge effect on how the outside looks and feels. Eating healthy foods is important. Remember to feed and nourish your skin by eating the proper foods. Give your skin a drink too. Eight glasses of are essential to maintaining your skin's elasticity and suppleness, say experts. The water you choose can be sparkling water, mineral or straight from the tap. You still can't beat the old fruit and vegetable diet when it comes to good health and a good complexion.
Hygiene - Keep your skin clean.
You need to give some thought and consideration to the type of makeup you use. And be sure to clean your tools regularly. Things such as cosmetic brushes get dirty and can carry bacteria and germs and may cause skin irritations and breaking out. A good way is to soak brushes for about 10 minutes in a dish of warm, soapy water using mild liquid detergent or baby shampoo. Rinse and blot excess moisture with a towel and stand the brushes, handle end down, in a tall glass until they are thoroughly dry.
Keep environmental pollutants from being absorbed into the skin with a good moisturizer that also acts as a skin barrier. Check the labels for those with added Vitamin A, C and E, which help block the penetration of pollutants.
Exercise - keep fit
A good exercise program such as aerobics can activate and rejuvenate the skin and improve circulation and blood flow. Also, body sweat triggers production of sebum, which is the skin's own natural moisturizer.
Sleep - get an adequate amount of quality sleep
Be sure to get enough sleep. An adequate amount of quality sleep can help recharge and rejuvenate the body, making it more resilient. Lack of sleep can lead to tired lifeless skin and circles under the eyes. To avoid morning eye or facial puffiness, sleep on your back so fluid doesn't collect there. And, you can keep the oil from your hair away from your face by wearing a head covering or a soft headband when you go to bed.
De-Stress - Relax
Get serious about stress reduction. Skin conditions such as acne appear on many people who are stressed out, and chronic skin conditions then to get worse. Set aside quiet time to meditate or daydream. Breathing exercises are excellent for reducing stress. And keep in mind that too much stress can affect your overall health as well as your complexion. Manage Depression in 5 Easy to Follow Steps

Manage Depression in 5 Easy to Follow Steps
 by: Greg Beverly

Being lonely or sad can be a normal part of our lives from time to time. We get sad when we fail our exams, when we're rejected by the person we love, or when someone very close to us dies. Depression, however, can be much more serious than just plain loneliness. It could lead to life-long consequences that could destroy your self-esteem, health, and well-being.
Here are some excellent tips to conquer the despondent mood and get the most joy out of your daily activities.
1) Get Enough Light and Sunshine.
Lack of exposure to sunlight is responsible for your body's secretion of the hormone melatonin, which could trigger a dispirited mood and a lethargic condition.
Melatonin is only produced in the dark. It lowers the body temperature and makes you feel sluggish. If you are always cooped up in your room (with the curtains closed), it would be difficult to restrain yourself from staying in bed.
This is the reason why many people are suffering from depression much more often in winter than in the other seasons. It's because the nights are longer, there are more dreary weather days, and we sometimes go several days without seeing the sun.
If you can't afford to get some sunshine, you can always lighten up your room with brighter lights. Have lunch outside the office. Take frequent walks instead of driving your car over short distances.
2) Get Busy. Get Inspired.
You'll be more likely to overcome any feeling of depression if you are too busy to notice it. Live a life full of inspired activities.
Do the things you love. If you're a little short on cash, you could do simple things like taking a stroll in the park, participating in your favorite sports, reading books, or engaging in any activity that you have passion for and would love to pursue.
Set a goal - a meaningful purpose in life. No matter how difficult or discouraging life can be, remain firm and have an unshakable belief that you are capable of doing anything you desire. With this kind of positive attitude, you will attain a cheerful disposition to beat the blues.
3) Take a Break.
Relax. Listen to soothing music. Soak in a nice warm bath. Ask one of your close friends to massage you. Take a break from your stressful workload and spend the day just goofing around. In other words, have some fun.
4) Eat Right and Exercise.
Avoid foods with lots of sugar, caffeine, or alcohol. Sugar and caffeine may give you a temporary burst of energy; but they later bring about anxiety, tension, and other problems. Alcohol is a depressant. Many people drink alcohol to "forget their problems." Again, this is just a temporary fix. Many times when the "high" wears off, you'll feel even worse.
Exercising regularly is a very important depression beater because it allows your body to produce more endorphins than usual. Endorphins are sometimes called "the happy chemicals" because of their stress-reducing and happiness-inducing properties.
5) Get a Social Life.
Your circle of friends are there to give you moral support. Spending time and engaging in activities with them will give you a very satisfying feeling. Nothing feels better than having group support.
Never underestimate the power of touch. Doesn't it feel so good when someone pats you on the back and gives you words of encouragement during your most challenging times? Hug or embrace someone today. You'll never know when you have saved another life.
Get intimate. Establish close ties with your family and friends. The love and care expressed by others could tremendously boost your immune system and fend off illnesses. Best of all, you'll live a more secured and happy life.

Finding Medical Equipment

Finding Medical Equipment
 by: Anthony Meijers

Sourcing medical equipment is an important task for people such as physicians, doctors and organizations such as refurbishers, manufacturers, dealers and leasing companies.
Some websites specializing in locating medical equipment, both new and used, will carry catalogs... both online and physical catalogs. Subscribing to several catalogs will enable you to locate the precise medical equipment you're looking for as well as give you a comparison on the prices for the items, shipping costs and delivery times.... all of which can vary tremendously.
You can find medical equipment supply sites from the big directories such as Yahoo and DMOZ as well as from searching directly at Google for the precise item you're looking for.
If you're interested in buying your medical equipment items in bulk, you may want to search for sites that offer wholesale pricing. The wholesale rates may be listed on the individual sites, or they may be something you would have to apply for, or be pre-approved for. The same goes for volume discounts.
If you are outside the US, you will need to check whether the site you are considering buying from supplies goods outside the US, and what the shipping /delivery costs will be.

Don't Ruin Your Summer Fun

Don't Ruin Your Summer Fun
 by: Roger Carr

I love summer! Summer is my favorite season of the year. I love playing sports outside and walking on the beach. I especially enjoy being at an outdoor barbecue. Maybe you enjoy summer activities as well. Imagine with me for a moment being at an outdoor barbecue. Just a little distance away from you there's a swimming pool full of kids who are having fun playing, laughing and splashing in the water. In another spot there might be a horseshoe game playing. You can hear the "clank" of the horseshoes hitting the posts as the players are trying to get a ringer. And of course there's the barbecue grill. On the grill might be hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken or steaks. The only thing better than the smell coming from the grill is the taste of the food when it's time to eat. Can you just imagine the fun that you will have this summer?
Now fast forward with me a few hours. You are at home and your skin is starting to itch. Just before bedtime you're taking your shirt or blouse off to get into your bed clothes and just the material rubbing up against your skin is painful. When you do go to bed that evening you toss and turn trying to get into a position that isn't painful so that you can go to sleep. However, you spend hours awake only thinking about the pain that your body is experiencing instead of the tremendous fun you had that day. What is the reason for this itching and pain? You have probably guessed it. You have a sunburn!
Fortunately you can do something about it before it happens. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has provided us with some steps that we can take to help reduce our chance of having to deal with sun damage. These seven simple action steps are as follows:
Limit Time in the Midday Sun - The sun's rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Whenever possible, limit exposure to the sun during these hours.
Wear a Hat - A hat with a wide brim offers good sun protection to your eyes, ears, face, and the back of your neck - areas particularly prone to overexposure to the sun.
Cover Up - Wearing tightly woven, loose-fitting, and full-length clothing is a good way to protect your skin from the sun's UV rays.
Wear Sunglasses that Block 99-100% of UV Radiation -Sunglasses that provide 99-100% UVA and UVB protection will greatly reduce sun exposure that can lead to cataracts and other eye damage. Check the label when buying sunglasses.
Always Use Sunscreen - Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 or higher liberally on exposed skin. Reapply every 2 hours, or after working, swimming, playing, or exercising outdoors. Even waterproof sunscreen can come off when you towel off, sweat, or spend extended periods of time in the water.
Avoid Sunlamps and Tanning Parlors - The light source from sunbeds and sunlamps damages the skin and unprotected eyes. It's a good idea to avoid artificial sources of UV light.
Watch for the UV Index - The UV Index provides important information to help you plan your outdoor activities in ways that prevent overexposure to the sun. Developed by the National Weather Service (NWS) and EPA, the UV Index is issued daily in selected cities across the United States.
Why am I telling you about these simple action steps that can help protect you from the sun? I want you to have fun this summer. I want you to have fun this summer under the sun.

Lower Cholesterol with Natural Foods

Lower Cholesterol with Natural Foods
 by: P. Mehta

Blood cholesterol is mainly of two types: LDL and HDL cholesterol. Both the types of cholesterol are produced by our body to perform certain functions and are always present in our blood. A total blood cholesterol of less than 200 mg/dL, LDL cholesterol of less than 130 mg/dL and HDL cholesterol more than 35mg/dL are considered good for the health of our heart. The problem arises when our body produces more LDL and total cholesterol and less HDL cholesterol than the above mentioned figures.
What you should do if you have high cholesterol then what? It is not always necessary to take medication. In most cases, both LDL and HDL cholesterol can be improved with regular exercise and eating low fat cholesterol friendly foods.
The cholesterol friendly foods or super foods that actually lower cholesterol include apples, onions, lentils, legumes, oats, walnuts, and olive oil. Research has shown that phytochemicals in apples and onions could help cut the risk of death from heart disease or stroke in half. Phytochemicals found in these foods have potential for protection against heart diasease, stroke and cancer. Oats contain beta-glucans, a soluble fiber that has been shown to lower cholesterol. Walnuts contain linolenic acid which lowers cholesterol and prevents blood clots. Olive oil contains 77% of monounsaturated fat and has powerful antioxidants, which lowers LDL cholesterol without affecting HDL levels.

Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma Cancer
 by: P. Mehta

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer involving mesothelial tissues of body organs usually lungs or abdominal. It is often caused by exposure to asbestos. However, there are 30-50% of patients without any history of asbestos exposure. People who have received asbestos exposure of as little as one or two months to very low doses are at risk of mesothelioma cancer. Even people who wash clothes of asbestos exposed people are at risk. A person exposed to asbestos could develop mesothelioma after 50 years of exposure.
People in the occupations such as construction jobs in shipyards, insulators, boilermakers, etc. are at the risk of contracting asbestos disease.
The 2 common types of mesothelioma are:
Pleural mesothelioma (lung cancer) and Peritoneal mesothelioma (abdomen organs). The survival time for a patient with diffuse malignant mesothelioma is from 4 to 24 months from the observance of the symptoms. Mesothelioma is also difficult to diagnose.
The chance of recovery for a patient with mesothelioma depends on size and location of the cancer, age of the patient and his response to the treatment. Presently, the treatment options for mesotheliomas are:
Radiation therapy, Chemotherapy, Surgery and Photodynamic therapy. There is some evidence that provitamin A or beta-carotene may decrease the risk of mesothelioma.

Speed up Metabolism

Speed up Metabolism
 by: P. Mehta

Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains. How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism Fasting A low calorie diet Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas, cakes, gum). Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods. Lack of physical activity. Underactive thyroid.
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.
How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism Do not skip any meals Exercise daily Build your muscles Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. Eat foods with high nutrition values

Achieve Harder Erections Everytime

Achieve Harder Erections Everytime
 by: Philip Lim

A sub-standard erection can be a very frustrating thing, particularly if it happens with regularity. But there are steps that can be taken and that is the purpose of this article, to give well informed advice on how to achieve harder erections every time.
Almost all the factors behind a sub-standard erection are temporary and can quite easily be rectified so that the problem is a thing of the past.
One of the most common reasons for not having harder erections is alcohol. People like to have a few drinks to loosen up before they engage in sexual intercourse and this will stop you getting harder erections.
Alcohol dulls the all the nerves between the penis and the brain making it impossible for the brain to send the chemical signals that tell the hormones to activate the blood flow to the penis.
When you are trying to achieve a harder erection the first thing you should remember is not to focus on the task at hand. Just as a watched kettle never boils, a watched penis never rises!
All focusing on the problem does is make it harder for you to focus on erotic thoughts which will make it even harder to get a harder erection.
There are many factors which will inhibit harder erections and not surprisingly most of them revolve around the circulation of blood. Doing exercise of any type will ensure better circulation and hence harder erections but there are a few that stand out from the pack.
Any exercises that will increase blood flow to the extremities of the body are the best, and ones that increase it to the muscle and blood vessels are optimal.
One thing you can try is when you have an erection you can hang small amounts of weight from your penis and clench the anal muscles which will make the penis rise and lift the weight.
Just like any other muscle in the body it will grow when this happens and the result will be a stronger penis with harder erections.
Smoking can also be a major factor in the quest for a harder erection because the particles introduced to the body by smoking are gathered in the fine blood vessels that are in places in the body like the eyes and the penis.
The basic aim of doing all these things is to increase the volume of blood that the corpora cavernosa can contain. The corpora cavernosa is the collection of tiny blood vessels in the penis that are responsible for about ninety percent of the erection.
Even small increases or decreases in the amount of blood you can get into this spongy apparatus will have a big impact on the hardness of your erection.
One thing to remember is that you cannot raise the volume capabilities of your corpora cavernosa with a vacuum pump like so many advertisements claim.
All you will end up with is a bill for fifty dollars and a swollen penis that will go down in half an hour.

Resolution: Stop Dieting for the Health of it!

Resolution: Stop Dieting for the Health of it!
 by: Michael Dimas

"Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink, and swore his last oath.
Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever." -- Mark Twain
Hello Everyone! This is part of my annual anti-resolution newsletter. Hope you enjoy it and are already having a great new year.
New year's type resolutions have never worked because they are usually associated with something the person doesn't want [as opposed to what they do want] anyway, or with something that is wrong/missing in their life. Focusing on what you don't want or what is missing also has the tendency to produce more of that in your life.
The word resolution itself means to re-solve...again...again...again. Not a good word to describe permanent change. "New Year's" makes it sound as if change is not possible at other times only one day per year. How's that for a limiting belief?
Being overweight, for example, is a focus on what you don't want. Diets and the deprivation that go with them as well as exercise we'd rather not do...eeks...more of what we don't want!
One of the strange ways that people motivate themselves to lose weight is to feel bad about being fat and then use those feelings to fuel the program to lose weight. As soon as they lose some weight they are thrilled [good feelings] and thus lose the motivation to continue to lose weight which was based on bad feelings. Sounds crazy but that's how professional yo-yo dieters do it.
Think about how crazy that is: feel bad about what we don't want! The only thing stranger is to know that most people motivate themselves this way for everything! You have to feel bad to stay motivated and focus on what you don't want.
Far better to motivate yourself with good feelings about the things that really do matter to you. Good feelings across the board for everything.
How about a focus on gaining [what we want] instead of losing [what we don't want]? Gaining health/fitness instead of losing weight. Gaining all the perks vs. doing all that stuff you hate cuz you feel bad about it...
Remember I'm only a hypnotist and these are merely suggestions so...Michael

Understanding Glyconutrients

Understanding Glyconutrients
 by: Dave Saunders

You say you don't know what glyconutrients are? You are not alone. Perhaps you have heard a bit about glyconutrients but you don't really know what they are or how they could benefit you. Understanding the role the glyconutrients play in the overall scheme of nutrition is very important if you are interested in supporting your own health and the health of those you know and love.
In the 26th edition of Harper's Illustrated Biochemistry, chapter 47 is a new chapter on the subject of glycoproteins. These microscopic structures are essential to all cellular function. They are constructed of building blocks of protein and eight different monosaccharide sugars. That's right, glyconutrients are sugars. These necessary sugars are not the same as the table sugar we often think of when we look at all of the latest diet fads. Instead these glyconutrients are needed by every single cell of your body to perform essential functions.
What are some of the functions of glyconutrients and glycoproteins? Your body is a collection of cells. To function together, your cells must be able to communicate. Collectively glyconutrients are like the letters of the alphabet. They form together to create the words the cells use to express the instructions of your DNA. Glycoprotein structures allow the human egg to identify the human sperm, thus making fertilization possible.
Glyconutrients also influence hormone function, where they intervene in the release and transportation of some hormones. With over 80 different hormones controlling every facet of your life, can you see how important just this one role is?
Individually, glyconutrients have been shown to have specialized roles in the body. Just one of the sugars known as mannose inhibits certain pro inflammatory molecules causing asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and even lupus. In cellular studies it has been shown that mannose inhibits tumor growth and blocks communication between tumor cells.
The research of glyconutrients has created a new field known as glycobiology or glycomics. In the February, 2003 issue of the Technology Review Journal, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology listed glycomics as one of the ten immerging discoveries that will change the world. Why? Possibly it is because the discovery of the role of these glyconutrients has fundamentally altered our understanding of cellular biology. This new field of study opens new doors in the understanding of nutritional needs as well as the development of new medical technology and of new approaches to therapeutic medications.
You can apply this new science to your daily life without waiting. Research has shown that only two of these eight sugars are prevalent in our modern diet. Supplementation that contains a patented blend of these glyconutrients has been available from one company for over ten years. Glyconutrients should be considered an essential part of any person's overall nutritional program.

Are All Meals .UNFRUITFUL.?

Are All Meals "UNFRUITFUL"?
 by: Chris Read

Seek the brief answer? Well, it's interestingly, YES. Now, you might be thinking, "I have to stick on a program on having MEALS just to keep control of myself." Dieting always involves a diet algorithm which may affect your mentality which may drive failure, encourage you to ignore hunger and satiety signals, and sometimes promotes a negative relationship with food, because you have to QUIT forbidden foods and eat foods you don't really like. This inevitably results in bingeing. So, though this idea may sound radical, we firmly believe there is no good diet.
By "diet," we mean the deliberate ploy to restrict the amount or kind of foods you're allowed to eat for the mission of losing weight. Though we certainly do endorse consuming a wide variety of healthful foods and thinking twice before eating a lot of foods that are high in calories but low in nutrition, we don't recommend following any kind of plan that tells you what, how much, and how often you should eat, without regard for your body's hunger and satiety signals.
The Psychological and Mental Effects of Dieting
Even if you weren't particularly concerned about food prior to dieting, all of a sudden you become obsessed with it. You'll find yourself preoccupied with the thoughts about what you'll be having for your next meal; whether you can have some chips, what others are eating, or even what you'll allow yourself to eat tomorrow.
The mind and the body are inextricably linked, and never are this more apparent than when you go on dieting. Geared to survive during feast or famine, both body and mind switch into survival mode when the food supply is diminished. While the body turns down the metabolism and becomes a slow burner in an attempt to hang on to every single calorie, the mind gears itself to one purpose: getting food. Result? You find yourself among recipes, planning menus, cooking elaborate meals, or even dreaming about food at night. The message is clear: Your body wants food, and your mind does it, too.
After a few days of extreme restriction, you'll probably become more dejected and apprehensive, because you are depriving yourself of things that are very pleasurable for you that aren't replaceable -- leaving a void. You may suddenly start to feel depressed, anxious, and isolated. As a result, you can end up eating more food in one sitting than you ever did when you weren't dieting.
So the same amount of food that would have satisfied them during times of plenty left them feeling hungry after a period of semi-starvation. The same thing happens to you when you restrict food. Suddenly, you develop the urge and the capacity to binge, and you no longer feel satisfied after eating what you used to consider a normal meal. In short, restrictive dieting can trigger binges and leave you hungry even after you've eaten normal amounts of food.
We see these same patterns in dieters: the preoccupation with food; the anxiety, depression, and irritability; the tendency to go off the diet and eat more than one would have in the pre-diet days; and a propensity toward bingeing even after the diet has ended.

Couple Of Easiest Ways to Burn Fat Effectively

Couple Of Easiest Ways to Burn Fat Effectively
 by: Chris Read

# 1) The first thing to do in the morning is to "Start Exercising ".
The first thing you should do in the morning to have some cardio work out for at least half an hour. Studies have shown that having some aerobics (high impact aerobics class, running, sex) as well as anaerobic (low impact aerobics, weight lifting, circuit training, swimming and walking) exercises in the morning, to be really effective in burning up to 4x more fat as opposed to working out at any other time during the day. Here's lies the reason:
Your body's main source of energy is the carbohydrates which you get from eating your daily meals. As you sleep at night for 6-8 hours, your body burns up all those carbohydrates as energy for various metabolic functions that go on even while you sleep. So, when you wake up in the morning, your body doesn't have any carbohydrates as energy to use as it's already been consumed by then and it seeks another source to gain energy instead, so it starts burning body fat.
So to utilize this cycle of the body, what you need is to take exercise early in the morning. Avoid eating breakfast because that will give your body some carbohydrates as a source of energy which you don't need at that time.
It has other advantages too. Your metabolism gets revved up immediately after your morning workout. It will keep the metabolism elevated throughout the day. An elevated metabolism throughout the day means that you'll have to burn more and more calories and thus lose more weight. If you exercise at night you may still burn fat while you workout but as soon as you go to sleep your metabolism will slow down and you'll miss out on all the extra fat that you can burn during the day. When you sleep your metabolic rate is always at its slowest. Also working out in the morning definitely reduces your level of stress throughout the day.
Tip for Naives: Want to burn fat even more? Add another workout to your daily routine 6 hours after your morning workout. If you're seriously thinking about adding another workout to your daily routine then try to do your cardio workouts in the morning because mostly of the fat calories are burned doing cardio at a moderate intensity. Build your 2nd workout of the day with weights. Mostly carbohydrate is burned doing weight-training workouts. 1lb of Muscle burns 50 calories a day or 1lb of fat every 70 days.
# 2) Having Breakfast is a stipulation.
Another way to keep your metabolism revved up all day long is to have breakfast without miss. Eating breakfast in the morning gets your metabolism started. Don't skip breakfast and wait until mid-morning or afternoon to eat, your metabolism will run slower causing you not burn any extra fat.
You can think this way-Your metabolism is a fireplace that'll burn fat for you all day long if you can operate it correctly. When you eat breakfast you are basically adding a catalyst to aggravate the burning of the Fat.
Eating breakfast will help stop those cravings you may have later on in the day and along with working out in the morning, eating breakfast will also keep you energized throughout the day.
Tip for Naives: Instead of eating only, the more general, 2 more meals during the day, i.e. lunch & dinner, try to eat 4-5 mini-meals spaced between 2-3 hours apart during the day. By eating those mini-meals you'll be throwing just the right amount of "wood" on the fireplace to keep your metabolism burning calories throughout the day.
Check list for the morning
1. Cardio workout for at least 30 min early in the morning
2. Have a healthy breakfast
just by using those couple of tips change yourself to fit into that dress for an upcoming event like a wedding, reunion or to impress that special someone for your life and remain pink for the rest time. Whatever your fitness goal is these tips should be able to surely help you reach them.

Facing Sun Effects

Facing Sun Effects
 by: Roger Carr

A secret has been revealed in the news over the past few weeks. I was a part of that secret. What was the secret you ask? Men are now using skin care products as a part of their daily activities!
I started a few months ago due to something I learned about myself. I had my picture taken. Not just a standard picture. I had my picture taken with a special ultraviolet camera and light that shows damaged skin due to excessive sun exposure. First they took a picture of my face with standard light. Although not a flattering picture, it looked like I expected. Then they took a picture of my face with the ultraviolet light. What did I look like? I looked like I had a face FULL of freckles. Only these freckles weren't the cute ones that would have showed up in the first picture. They showed that I have a significant amount of sun damage. I guess my early years of working and playing outside all summer long with little or no sun protection is catching up with me.
It is common knowledge that sun damaged skin will cause premature signs of aging skin (wrinkling, "leathery" appearance and feel, etc.) as well as being a cause of skin cancer. So, I decided to do something about it. One of those things is to take better care of my skin. I am using skin care products that have a sunscreen built in. These same products also contain enzymes that can help speed cell renewal in sun damaged skin.
Yes, the secret is out. I am using skin care products every day. My wife says my complexion is also better because of it. I look forward to having my picture taken in the future. Maybe my complexion isn't the only thing that is improving.

7 Steps to Protect Yourself from the Winter Sun

7 Steps to Protect Yourself from the Winter Sun
 by: Roger Carr

What outdoor activities did you do this past summer? Maybe you went on a vacation to the beach. Maybe you spent some time playing your favorite sports such as baseball, golf, or tennis. Maybe you went swimming or had a barbeque in the backyard with family and friends. Regardless of the outdoor activities you did over the summer, most likely you were aware that it was important to protect yourself from sun while outdoors.
Now winter is approaching. I am turning my attention to putting away my summer items to make room for the winter ones; long sleeve shirts for short sleeve ones, corduroy pants for shorts, and boots for sandals. Most of the sports equipment I have been using is going to get put away as well. But what about those items I have been using to protect myself from the sun? Things like my sunscreens, sunglasses, and sun protective hats and clothing.
You may be putting these items away and not using them during the winter. The National Council of Skin Cancer Prevention reported in their January 2003 newsletter that research shows only 3 percent of Americans routinely wear sunscreen during the fall months, and only 2 percent during the winter months. However, you can still get a sunburn and snow blindness during these months. The colder temperatures do not block the UV rays and reflections off the snow and higher altitudes can make matters even worse. You may be causing yourself significant, long-term damage by not properly protecting yourself.
How do you protect yourself from the winter sun (or any other season)? Follow these simple sun safety action steps recommended by the US Environmental Protection Agency:
I am going to keep my sun protective items out to use this winter. I am trusting that you will do the same so that you can enjoy the outdoors while in the cold, on the ice, or in the snow. Have a terrific and safe winter!

The Importance of Treadmill Mats

The Importance of Treadmill Mats
 by: Paul Johnson

One important accessory that you will want to get with your new treadmill is a good treadmill mat. If you are not sure of what a treadmill mat is, then let's take a minute and examine this.
A treadmill is going to vibrate when in use and since it is sitting directly on your floor, there will be loud noises and constant vibrations each time your treadmill is used if there are not proper mats under them.
These mats will maintain your floors and carpets, minimize vibrations, and reduce the annoying noises that may come from using your treadmill. More times than not these mates are made out of some sort of rubber or cellular vinyl type of byproduct.
A treadmill mat of good quality can deliver many benefits to your treadmill and your floor. The first is that it does protect your flooring and carpet.
As expensive or inexpensive as your treadmill may have been, chances are that your hardwood floor or carpet under the treadmill will cost three or four times than your treadmill to replace if damaged.
These mats also aid in reducing the numbers of dust and carpet fibers in the air. Without the mat, the vibrations discharged by the treadmill will dislodge any loose fibers in the carper, which include the dust that might be tucked away within the carpet.
One of the biggest benefits from using these mats is that it has the potential to prolong the life of your treadmill by dampening the vibrations that are emitted from the usage of the treadmill.
The vibrations caused from your treadmill can possibly make your treadmill work harder and cause a shaking to it that will gradually over time reduce the shelf life of your machine. They are very effective at reducing the amount of noise that is created when your treadmill is on.
If you have ever heard a treadmill without a mat under it, it might sound kind of like an airplane taking off, it is that loud.
Treadmill mats are relatively inexpensive for the amount of headache and money that can be saved in the long term from them. The prices of these mats is somewhere between $25 and $50 depending on what type you decide that you are going to purchase.
This is a small amount to considering the total amount that could be saved in the long term from not protecting your machine and having to purchase another.

Do You Know These Benefits of Home Treadmills ?

Do You Know These Benefits of Home Treadmills ?
 by: Paul Johnson

In our society today, there are more and more people who are determined to lose as much weight as possible as quickly and easily as possible.
More time than not these are the same people that say they do not have enough time to work out or go to the gym. However, these people are the ideal candidates for getting a home treadmill.
Other than being able to use this in the convenience of your own home, there are several other benefits that a result of using a treadmill.
Treadmills are proven to be the most consistent calorie burning machine on the market. They are better at burning calories than an ab machine, rowing machine, and stationary bikes.
Your results are very easy to track on your home treadmill. With the digital readouts to view on the machine, you have the ability to track length walked, calories burned, and how much time you have been using.
With a home treadmill they are open anytime for use with no lines whatsoever. There is never any waiting for the gym to open or cannot go because it has gotten too late and it is closed already.
Any person no matter the height, age, or weight, as long as they can walk, can use a treadmill. The features of treadmills to be able to adjust to variable speeds makes it ideal for all no matter the pace at which they wish to exercise.
They are documented as one of the safest and most reliable ways to exercise on the market. Treadmills tend to be less painful on the joints and tendons than other machines and sports because when using you use your natural everyday walking motion.
There are some other, non health reasons as to why treadmills are seen as beneficial to those who wish to exercise.
First, unlike most exercising where time just seems to be dragging by, a treadmill allows for you to watch TV, read a magazine, or listen to music while not distracting you from your workout, which makes the time go by more quickly than other forms of exercise.
Also, in this day and age when home gyms or gym membership fees may be very expensive, treadmills can be found for less than a couple of hundred bucks.
Do not misunderstand, there are those that can range upwards of a thousand dollars, but spending this much on something one time in five or six years will prove to be cost effective over time, where you would renew a $500 gym membership each year.

The Different Types of Treadmills

The Different Types of Treadmills
 by: Paul Johnson

When we usually think of treadmills, we tend to think that there is only one type on the market. However, this is very far from the truth as there are a couple of different types of treadmills.
There is, of course, the home treadmill that most are familiar with. However, the other type of treadmill is the commercial treadmill, which are the ones that are usually seen in the gym.
Most exercise gurus will pursue getting home treadmill. They range from cheap, manual treadmills up to the higher quality ones that are designed for those with extensive running and cross training in their workouts.
Competition in the treadmill industry is extremely high. There are hundreds of brands and types of treadmills that are all competing for your money.
There are folding home treadmill varieties which are great space savers as they can fold up and be put in a closet or under a bed. However this type of treadmill lacks an extremely sold form that most home treadmills possess.
The other variety of treadmill is known as the commercial treadmill. This type of treadmill is used in a gym or other type of commercial setting such as a doctor's office.
A commercial treadmill tends to have a higher powered motor with more horsepower than a home machine. It also has more a bulky and rugged look to it and feels extremely stable, which does eliminate finding folding varieties of commercial treadmills.
Due to the intended extreme usage there is less of a warranty, roughly 3-4 years, that is included with the purchase of a commercial treadmill.
When a treadmill is intended to be used as one within a commercial type of environment, then it may be only logical for you to get a commercial treadmill.
However, there might be a few treadmills that are categorized as home treadmills, that might be used in other light commercial settings such as in small hotel gyms but in this case, as in all, be sure that you go over the warranty several times.
There are many decent options for those needing a home treadmill. If your workout is only going to include walking for the life of your machine then a smaller, less expensive variety will do as more than capable.
Avid runners and exercisers are encouraged to get a higher priced ranged home machine that will have more features and include higher length warranties.
The only real difference in the two types of treadmills is that of the warranty length and the type of usage.

The Great Opportunity

The Great Opportunity
 by: Neil Millar

I assume you want to be happier. Searching for greater happiness is a wonderful thing whatever level of happiness you are currently at. It could be that you are already enjoying life and just searching for a new idea, or it could be that you have felt negative towards life or the experiences life has dealt you. If you feel in anyway negative about life I would like to share something with you.
It is human nature to take a look at the darker side of life. I have often dwelt on this side. I've found that in this negative place I often feel a greater sense of hopelessness and loss. I believe when we have had a traumatic experience it is right that we should feel this way for a time. Perhaps it has been right for you to feel this way. Perhaps it was part of the healing process for whatever you have been through up until now. Perhaps looking at the negative side of life has served you well up until now – as a form of protection – but I think that in the long run that it would be wrong and harmful to your health, and life, for you continue with these thoughts once you have acknowledged that they exist. Let me expand on why I believe this.
Whatever life has dealt you, however bad things were or are; there has been a lesson for you to learn from that experience. If you are still in a situation that makes you unhappy it would be wise to review it and see what you can do to leave it or alleviate the pain and frustration from it. In the ending of an unhappy experience you are released and presented with something that can be used to make everyday from here onwards happier… and that something can be summed up in one word…
Out of your hardship, out of your hopelessness and feeling of being lost you will find 'opportunity', opportunity to be free of all the hardship of the past, an opportunity to rediscover yourself, an opportunity to do all the things you might like to have done but could not or did not do before. Let me give you an example of the day a thought about an opportunity came.
The thought came as a shock, so out of place with the rest of my thoughts that day that I stopped what I was doing instantly. A few seconds passed and then I began to laugh like I hadn't laughed in years.
I had been upset. I had been dwelling on the down side of my relationship break-up. In particular I had been regretting so many wasted years. I was feeling just awful when the thought I am telling you about travelled through my brain like an express train. The thought was this:
"I am a lucky man, in an enviable position and I'm a free
to create the most incredible relationship with the most
incredible woman I've ever met."
Until that moment I had no idea that the break-up of my relationship had a positive side, but that realisation made me laugh. That realisation reshaped my day. In fact it did a lot more than that…
Over the next few days I still had plenty of moments when I thought about all the things that hurt me. The good thing was though that the "I'm a lucky man…' thoughts kept returning. I realise now that what I had begun to do was let go of my attachment to my past relationship.
I begun to spend time sitting down with my eyes shut and repeating the thoughts that I was now free to create the most incredible relationship. As I did this it was like cords breaking. The heartache and pain subsided gradually over the following days and I began to feel somehow lighter, like a little of my pain had been lifted off.
Within four months that incredible relationship began to unfold. First I met this wonderful woman. We became close friends and from there the magic has just continued to unfold.
Try this:
For a moment close your eyes. Think about one thing that is causing you heart-ache. Now, be playful and imagine that this pain is in fact a great opportunity. Smile as you think about the opportunity that is now available to you right now. It may be a relationship. It may be a change of job. Whatever it is, just remember that as one door closes another opens…

Are Herbal Remedies The Answer?

Are Herbal Remedies The Answer?
 by: Jon Davis

It seems that almost every day we come across a story in a newspaper or magazine which raises concerns about the use, misuse, or overuse of a particular pharmaceutical remedy in the treatment of minor ailments, or serious medical conditions. Often these stories are quickly discredited as being ill-informed or based on insufficient evidence, perhaps medical opinion is divided, or particular experts in the field prefer to wait for an extended period of time, maybe years, in order to ascertain the safety, or otherwise of these commonly used remedies. This is not to criticise medical science, or its practitioners, who must rely on objective and statistically valid evidence before giving an expert opinion. However, it is little wonder that many of us turn to herbal remedies, either as a supplement, or as an alternative to manufactured pharmaceutical products. There is a reassurance in that simple word "herbal", taking us back to simpler times, when there was little choice in how to treat our day to day bodily malfunctions, aches and pains and we made use of what was available to us, perhaps in our own back gardens!
Are herbal remedies the answer? Surely if they have been in use since men and women first walked on the Earth they must be both effective and safe? The answer to this, as to many questions, is "Yes" and "No", or even "Well it's not as simple as that." In the past, herbal remedies were often administered or recommended by one particular person in the neighbourhood, frequently a woman, (probably regarded as a witch), who was an expert in her field. This person would have studied and learned, by trial and error, about the efficacy and safety (or otherwise) of the product she was supplying. Herbal remedies may be natural, but that does not make them safe and we need to be well informed about the optimum dosage as well as about possible side effects and what are called "contra-indications" in the medical profession. After all, before a doctor prescribes a drug to you, s/he will refer to your medical history and question you about your lifestyle. We need to be equally cautious in self-prescribing, and take advantage of information and advice that is available to us from reliable sources.
Should herbal remedies be regarded as an alternative, or a complementary supplement to conventional medicine? We need to use our common sense in this matter. If a herbal product appears to be effective in treating a minor condition, then by all means use it instead of resorting to a manufactured product, with possibly dubious side effects. As regards more serious and even life threatening conditions, it seems unwise to reject the offerings of modern science, which for the most part have a proven record in alleviating suffering and prolonging life, whether or not they also cause undesirable side-effects. Herbal remedies may in these cases be used in a complementary way, if this is appropriate. Let us also not forget that many widely used conventional medications are based on a herbal product, (aspirin and digitalis to name just two), so we may be using a herbal based product without being aware of it. Herbal and conventional pharmaceutical remedies are not always mutually exclusive.

Is Your Colon Toxic?

Is Your Colon Toxic?
 by: Jane Kriese

The colon is the part of the large intestine extending from the cecum to the rectum. The most common sign of a toxic colon is constipation. Dead food leads to constipation, toxic build up, weight gain, and low energy. Constipation results when waste materials move too slowly through the large bowel, resulting in infrequent and/or painful elimination.
This process causes putrefied, nasty materials to stay in the colon too long and old fecal matter starts to harden and stick to the colon. Over 2.5 million North American's suffer from constipation. Most North Americans are storing 5 to 10 pounds of old fecal matter in their bodies. We are all subject to this problem, even the rich and famous. It has been documented that John Wayne had 40 pounds of built up fecal matter in his colon and Elvis Presley had 60 pounds of built up fecal matter when he died.
You could say we are all full of s_ _ t!
Now, you are probably wondering what causes constipation? Basically the causes are our life style. We lack fiber and water in our diet, eat junk food, lack of exercise, advanced age and bowel disorders. It may also be the side effects of iron supplements, some drugs or pain killers.
Dr. Bernard Jensen D.C. PhD. says "poor bowel management lies at the root of most peoples health problems". This is because the poisons back up in the system polluting our inner environment. We call this auto intoxication or self poisoning.
The following conditions can be related to constipation; allergies, bad breath, foul spelling gas and stools, diarrhea, sluggish elimination, irregular bowel movements, frequent congestion, colds, viruses, frequent headaches, general aches and pains, intolerance to fatty foods, low energy, low back pain, low resistance to infection, needing to sleep a long time, pain in liver or gallbladder, P.M.S., breast soreness, vaginal infection, skin problems, boils, pimples or acne.
Some healers in the natural world have implicated constipation as a contributing factor in the following diseases and disorders; Appendicitis, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, benign tumors, I.B.S. (including spastic bowel ulcerative colitis & Crohn's disease, gout, rheumatoid arthritis and obesity. Let's face it, this doesn't sound healthy.
To rid the body of this condition you need to change your lifestyle and cleanse your body; for the lifestyle changes, I refer you to the free E-Book, "9 Steps To A Healthy Vibrant Life", Step Four "Examining Your Life Style". The book as available at www.herbs4health.net. Remember, you must increase your water and fiber!
Now it is time to cleanse the body and cleanse the body and cleanse the body. Any time we have a life style disease it is safe to say the first step is to cleanse. The cleanses are also in the book "9 Steps To A Healthy Vibrant Body". The Colon Cleanse is excellent and very inexpensive. These cleanses can be done fairly often, if needed. I recommend two cleanses a year for maintenance of good health.
There are also some herbs that help activate the bowel and they are; parsley, black seed, cascara and worm wood. You might also find relief using Psyllium Husk as this contains dietary fiber.
Does colon cleansing look like a cure all to a lot of lifestyle diseases? It is! cleansing your colon will remove a lot of poison from your body and it will help you assimilate the goodness from your vitamins and minerals. This and a better lifestyle will give you a healthy, vibrant body.

Many Americans today are fierce financially to remain. As the cost of prescription drugs continue to rise, Charles Myrick,President/CEO of American Consultants Rx presents key prescription tips of help necessary on abstract the long prescription cost.

#1) Generic vs. Brand-name Prescriptions

Ask your pharmacist if there is a generic equivalent available for the drug your doctor has prescribed. Generic and brand-name medicine involve the same rolling formula. Generic drugs are treated sound and effective sweeping, but there can be subtle differences in how they are formulated. Bottom line: it is worth it to try generic drugs since they can be appreciably cheaper.

#2) Corral larger quantity

Some pharmacies give a charge break when drugs are ordered in above quantities. Ask your doctor to comp* your prescriptions for a 90-day supply rather than a 30-day supply.

#3) Shop around

Not all stores are oblige co-ordinate. Price break exists between nominees. Call or ask for a price quote before filling a personal prescription. While a particular drug may be cheaper at one store, another drug may be cheaper at a altered store. Online pharmacies are an option too. Contemplate the bill of a higher strength pill. If a essence is more commonly prescribed in the 20 mg. strength, but you have been prescribed 10 mg., would it be cheaper to order the 20 mg. strength and break them in half? A price break is usually given to drugs which are more commonly prescribed or more commonly securable. Check with your doctor anyhow pill-splitting at all. It is not forevermore safe to do so (i.e. enteric flavorsome tablets).

#6) Drug assistance programs

Many narcotic companies offer drug assistance programs for people with medical and financial need. Repeated again, not all programs are created equal. Check with the drug manufacturer to see if such a technique exists and if you correspond.

#7) Government programs

Abounding states accord a drug gravy* with Medicaid and Medicare. Research with the Medicaid or Medicareoffice in your state to see if you qualify.

#8) Discounts, free samples, and coupons

Take advantage of everything available to you such as the free discount prescription cards offered online by American Consultants Rx at acirx com site .The cards are designed to reduce the cost of name brand drugs up to 40% and generic drugs up to 60%.

Your scientist habitually has a collection of free samples. Ask if your healer has free samples available for the drug you are taking. Don't forget about tokens. Drugstores constantly bid coupons to try to win your merchandising.

#9) Take advantage of mail adjustment programs

Mail-order pharmacies sometimes offer group salvages, such as AARP, the American Association Of Retired Persons or the American Consultants Rx mail order progam found online.

#10) Apperceive your insurance

Know the details of your health insurance remittal. Know the extent of the lagniappe, co-payments, and annual caps. Determine which medicine are on the formulary list of your insurance company. A formulary is a dictionary of approved drugs. Typically, formularies are less expensive higher drugs not on the roll call.
