Just the Cold Hard Facts About Diets, Weight Loss, Exercise and Losing Fat

Just the Cold Hard Facts About Diets, Weight Loss, Exercise and Losing Fat
 by: Nick A. James

This is a layman marketers' observations on diets and weight loss based upon selling and working first hand with weight loss products for over 10 years.
We avoid the weight loss drugs, we do not recommend them as they can be dangerous, however I suppose in some extreme cases with certain obese people the benefits may outweigh the negative side effects.
Here is where we believe the majority of people go wrong when trying to lose weight.
First most people consume way too many carbohydrates and they don't take in enough protein on whatever diet they are on so in effect they are causing their bodies to instead of burning fat to burn lean muscle.
In effect lean muscle burns at rest about 17 times more calories per day at rest than the same amount of fat. The amount of muscle you have greatly determines your metabolism and how many calories your body burns each day. This is why people when they come off their diet and start eating regularly again they can put the weight right back on as their body is now naturally burning less calories than before. In effect they have slowed down their metabolism. This is especially true it seems of women who have less natural muscle mass than men.
This explains why the Atkins diet is so effective. It cuts out a lot of the carbohydrates, which because people often eat too many of them cause weight gain. And by eating more protein it is making sure that you don't lose any muscle and may even gain some additional muscle mass.
The second major factor why people don't lose weight is lack of exercise and to a lesser degree the wrong types of exercise. For example a brisk walk can cause your body to go into the fat burning state called ketosis better than running will.
We earlier discussed how important muscle mass was in maintaining a healthy weight. This is why light resistance exercises (weight training) is so effective in losing weight because it help you add muscle mass. This doesn't have to be massive amounts of weight, any light resistance amount of weight can be effective at adding muscle.
This is why men and women who participate even in light resistance exercises 2-3 times a week for 15-20 minutes almost always lose weight when they combine this with their weight loss program. This has been our observation over the last 10 years or so.
So to sum it up, the formula to lose weight is fairly simple, following it is much more difficult.
Cut your excess carbs, eat more protein and do moderate exercise like walking and light resistance exercises like weights. Do this and control what you eat and you will lose weight.
Now there are a number of weight loss products on the market that can help facilitate your weight loss, but unless you are willing to do what we just mentioned, you will not achieve your total weight loss goal.
This is not to say particular products aren't effective as they may prevent you from adding additional pounds or even help you lose a few pounds. Also is the issue of carbs, we are not idiots here, we realize carbohydrates are used for energy. However, the bottom line is most people consume much more carbohydrates then they need on a daily basis and the excess gets converted to fat. You know the story.
As far as most weight loss products, most people have varying opinions. Here is the issue, most of the reputable weight loss products work to a certain degree. The problem is most people look at them as miracle workers, that will allow them to continue to eat way too much (this is kinder than saying they eat like a pig), not exercise and expect to lose weight on the product. So at the end of 30 or 60 days they weight or measure themselves and think that product sucked, as they didn't lose anything. Meanwhile they conveniently forget their lifestyle over that period.
This is why recording eating habits in a journal is so effective and why it is recommended.

Alkalize Your Way to Better Health

Alkalize Your Way to Better Health
 by: Bill Marshall

Today we're shifting our focus from wealth to health. First of all, I am not an expert. If you have a health condition, you should go see your doctor. What I'm going to discuss in this post is something I was first exposed to at a Tony Robbins seminar.
First let me set the stage. It was day for of the Tony Robbins "Unleash the Power Within" seminar in Pasadena, CA. I had been to the seminar before, so I knew what to expect. Or so I thought...
The way the previous seminar had been run, Tony was out of the building--gone--bye-bye. The topic was on Living Health, a subject that Tony Robbins is very passionate about. The story we had been told is that the last time he spoke about it live, he went for 18 hours! Now those of you who have been to one of his seminars knows that this is entirely possible. In fact, the previous days certainly seemed close to that.
Anyway, the seminar started exactly the same way as before. Shortly after it started, I was about to leave. Then they appeared to have video problems. One of Tony's associates came back on stage and apologized. It looked like they had a legitimate disaster on their hands. Then he asked if there was anyone in the audience who was familiar enough with the material to complete the seminar. Suddenly a familiar voice came over the speakers--it was Tony, live and in person.
The whole thing was a set up. And they had kept it secret during the entire previous 3 days. In fact, the audience that day was a fraction of the audience the days before.
Tony explained that it had been many years since he had taught the seminar live and that there were some new exciting distinctions he was going to share with us that day. There were some things in the previous seminar he now thought were not quite right based on his new knowledge.
Of course, like everyone else in the audience, as soon as he walked on the stage I was riveted. No way I was going to leave now.
What Tony shared for the rest of the day definitely caused a major shift in my thinking about health. Without getting into too many details, he talked about his studies with Robert O. Young and one of the primary (if not they primary) cause of bad health: acidosis. This is the condition of the body being too acid. I have never heard this discussed before.
Tony has a set of recordings of his seminar available called Living Health. I purchased those (actually repurchased those) sometime after the seminar. I may be wrong, but I think the CDs of the second set I purchased were recorded at the seminar I attended. You can learn more about this if you get the Living Health program or purchase Robert O. Young's book, "The pH Miracle."
Just to be clear, I don't get any kind of money for endorsing Tony's seminar. I just mention it because it has formed the basis of many of the Power Affirmations I created for the recordings on health.
How do you know if your body is too acid? The safest assumption is just to assume that it is. If you get some yellow litmus paper (just search the internet), you can take a small strip and put it under your tongue. If it's a light shade of yellow, guess what, you're acidic. If it turns blue, most likely you are alkaline.
First of all you need to understand the pH (potential for hydrogen) scale. It is a logarithmic scale from 1-14 that measures the acidity or alkalinity of a chemical (hint: your body is a chemical factory). A pH of 7 is neutral (the normal pH of pure water).
The fact that it is a logarithmic scale is important. For example, a pH of 6 is ten times more acidic than a pH of 7. But a pH of 5 is a 100 times more acidic.
The human blood has a natural pH of about 7.4. The human body cannot survive if the pH of their human blood drops to 7 or rises to 7.8! So the body has natural buffers it uses to keep the blood within these narrow limits. Hint: your bones (including your teeth) are mostly calcium--an alkaline substance. So if your body gets too acidic, it leaches the calcium from your bones creating tooth decay and bone loss. Increased storage of fat and water retention is also a way your body protects itself. To get to your ideal weight--alkalize.
Now the real trick is how do you change your body from acid to slightly alkaline and keep it there. It is a fact of chemistry that it takes a lot of alkalinity to neutralize even a little bit of acid. For example, to change a gallon of water with a pH of 5 to 7 would take 20 gallons of water with a pH of 7.5!
Here's some simple math: your body is 80% water. Water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. To find out about how many gallons of water are in your body at any one time, multiply your body weight by 80% and divide by 8.34. Let's say you weigh about 170 lbs. 170 x 80%=136 lbs. 136/8.34 is about 16 gallons of water.
Obviously, the human body is much more complicated than this. But what this indicates is just how diligent we need to be to alkalize our body.
I believe that the trick is to drink alkaline drinks and eliminate acidic drinks. From what I've studied, the closer your drinks are to a pH of about 9 the better.
One of the most shocking things I learned at Tony's seminar is that fresh orange juice and carrot juice are actually acidic, and so can cause the body to become too acid if taken to excess. Same with eating too much fruit. That was a significant shift from his earlier program. Note: I still like fruit and think it can be beneficial, but only in moderation.
The foods that really shine are the live, leafy greens--what a surprise! He showed some photos that showed the amount of energy in the food (I forget the name of the process) and it was amazing the amount of energy radiating from fresh wheat grass--like a lightening storm!
I think that eating the leafy greens and drinking their fresh juices is one way to increase your alkalinity, but I've come across some other products that work well for me (no, I'm not promoting some MLM--most of these can be purchased over the internet or at your local health food store). In order to test the alkalinity of some products, I'm relying on the litmus paper I mentioned earlier.
So here are some of my findings based on my simple testing:
Soda--very acidic! Put the litmus paper in it and it turns bright yellow. I have read that soda has a pH of 3! Do the math and that is about 10,000 times more acidic than plain water! Not figuratively, but literally (10 to the 4th power)!
The enzyme products by Infinity2 (http://www.infinity2.com). These all tested alkaline. The paper turned bright blue! Note: this is an MLM and their products, while excellent are expensive. I'm not signing anyone up, so let's not even go there. What I am telling you is that their products appear to be outstanding and based on before and after blood tests (which you can see on their site), they help the body stay alkaline.
Coral Calcium. It depends on the formula. I tested a formula purchased at the health food store and it didn't appear to change the litmus strip. I tried Coral Calcium Supreme marketed by Bob Barefoot and Ken Trudeau and the strip turned blue.
Regular bottled water. No change in the color of the strip.
Evian Water. The strip turned to medium shade of blue--slightly alkaline.
Essentia Water. The strip turned to a very light shade of blue--Evian was darker; however, they guarantee a pH of around 9.5! This may be the fastest way to alkalize your body! And the easiest way to stay in balance. They state on their website that it is the nature of this type of water that you can only accurately test the pH with scientific equipment rather than litmus paper. The water is reasonably priced and probably available in most health food stores. I highly recommend that you include their water in your diet. You can read more about them at their website at http://www.essentiawater.com.
Atkins Advantage shake mix. Generally, I'm not fond of diet drinks, but I thought I'd test it to see what it looked like. To my surprise, it tested alkaline! I don't know about the other health qualities, but it seems to pass the alkaline test.
Slimfast Optima drinks. Similar to the Atkins powder above, but a little less.
EAS Myoplex bars. This was another surprise. I tried one of their cookies and cream bars and took a litmus test right after--dark blue. So again, it passes an initial test for being alkaline.
So what conclusions have I reached:
To be healthy, I have to concentrate on foods that are live and alkaline.
Adequate water is critical to good health. But, all waters are not the same. While any bottled water is better than no water, whenever available, Essentia and Evian are the best I've tested (see the important note below about Penta Water added after I originally wrote this article! ).
Live enzymes are critical to maintaining sound health. Most of the foods we eat, even live foods like salads, don't have as many enzymes as we really need. A supplement is likely necessary.
Some brands of Coral Calcium can be very effective in staying alkaline.
In a pinch, there are some mass market convenience foods that can satisfy your hunger, that are reasonably priced, and alkaline. Again, not my first choice, but certainly better than reaching for that soda or candy bar!
Live in outstanding health!
Important Note: I wrote this article before testing Penta Water. I'm adding this extra bonus material because I think it will help you. I'm glad that the internet allows me to edit articles I've already written as I learn new things.
New Bottled Water Recommendation
Earlier this month in my article about alkalizing and energizing your body for better health, I wrote about Essentia Water. I want to let everyone know about another product that I have recently tried that I think is superb: Penta Water. I will warn you in advance that this bottled water is very expensive related to other waters. In California, it sells for $1.65 for a half-liter. But I will also tell you that after drinking it consistently for about a week, it is probably far and away the best water I have ever had.
While it tested neutral for alkalinity, based on the research I found at the Penta website (www.pentawater.com), the special qualities of the water actually create a very high alkalizing effect on the body. Without going into all of the details, not only do they purify the water to a high degree, they also use physics to change the structure of the water so that it creates smaller water clusters at the molecular level. There are other things they do (without adding anything to the water) that appear to have a very beneficial effect. I suggest that you visit their website and read the research for yourself. While it is a bit on the glitzy side, based on my personal experience, I don't think they are overselling their product.
The real proof to me was after I tested my own alkalinity after a few days on the product. Without making any other changes to my diet, the litmus strip came out a very dark blue. It seems clear to me that this is primarily due to drinking a large amount of Penta (about 3 liters or more per day).
The bottom line: if you can afford to drink it regularly (start using those affirmations so you can!), I recommend Penta over any other bottled water currently on the market.

3 Steps to Identify Supplements that Lack Scientific Evidence for their Reported Benefits

3 Steps to Identify Supplements that Lack Scientific Evidence for their Reported Benefits
 by: Mark Worthen, Psy.D.

This article shows you a simple but reliable method to identify supplements that do not have scientific support for their alleged benefits.
Step 1: Go to
http://www.pubmed.org
which is a National Library of Medicine (United States) web site where you can search for articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Why check PubMed? Because the National Library of Medicine carefully selects only high-quality journals that offer value to medical scientists around the world. Selection criteria are detailed on this web page:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/jsel.html
Step 2: Once on the PubMed web site, search for the generic (scientific) name of the supplement in question. Supplement manufacturers must list the scientific name for their supplement's ingredients on the label and in advertisements. Supplements often contain many ingredients but usually only a few provide the purported benefits. Those are the ingredients you want to evaluate--they are often the same ones the manufacturer highlights in advertisements.
Step 3: This is the step some supplement companies don't want you to know. Before you click on the "Search" button at PubMed.org, limit your search to studies that utilize the right research methodology with the right population.
The right research methodology is a randomized controlled trial (the double-blind, placebo control group design fits under this category) and the right population is human beings.
Specifying human subjects is important because you want to know if the ingredients in a supplement have been shown to produce the advertised benefits in real live human beings--not just in rats pressing levers for food pellets or in a "case study" with one person.
This is not to say that basic science research, which is often conducted initially with animals, is unimportant. On the contrary, such research usually serves as a crucial building block for subsequent clinical research with humans. But basic science research does not provide scientific evidence for a supplement's beneficial health effects on human beings. Only research with human subjects, using randomized controlled trials, can offer such evidence.
On the PubMed.org search page, click on the "Limits" tab located under the "Search" box. You will see a number of drop-down menus. First click on the Publication Type menu and then select Randomized Controlled Trial. Next click on the drop-down menu labeled, Humans or Animals and click on Humans.
An Example
Morinda citrifolia is the scientific name for a popular ingredient in a nutritional supplement. First search on PubMed for Morinda citrifolia, without placing Limits on your search.
How many results did you receive?
The count was 69 at the time I wrote this article. Looks impressive, huh?
But now search for Morinda citrifolia after first placing Limits on the search as described above, so that you receive only those studies which provide more definitive scientific evidence for the positive effects of Morinda citrifolia.
How many journal articles did you find searching with the specified limits? I found 1.
Thus, out of 69 articles found on PubMed.org, only one provides some evidence for Morinda citrifolia's beneficial effects. In addition, those results were obtained with a very specific patient population. Thus, in order to conclude that scientific evidence exists for Morinda citrifolia's efficacy, scientists would need to conduct additional randomized controlled trials with diverse patient populations.
Conclusion
The simple research method described in this article will help you determine if a given supplement possesses sufficient scientific evidence for its purported benefits.

The Ultimate Weight Loss Product Guide

The Ultimate Weight Loss Product Guide
 by: Mari Kudla

Are you one of the many who may be tempted by advertisements for diet pills and other weight loss products promising easy, quick ways to lose weight? Were you aware that a simple 30 minute infomercial can cost anywhere from $80,000 to 120,000 dollars to make. Pretty crazy don't you think? Yet time and time again you see countless weight loss infomercials selling product after product.
Fad Diets and many diet pills are pitched by persistent advertising and many people, possibly even you will join the parade of followers. Yet 95% of the time, these weight loss products will prove to fail you once again -- leaving you with nothing but charges to your credit card and set-up to regain all those pounds. So why are people constantly and willingly paying their hard earned money for these weight loss products?
"Stop Throwing Your Hopes Into Every Weight Loss Product That Comes By"
We want you to stop being their guinea pigs and understand and realize just how many of these diet pills and other weight loss companies are cashing in at your expense. To help you avoid getting "trapped or suckered" into believing or choosing a weight loss product or service that does nothing but contribute and add to the problems.
Stop Getting Taken! The following factors are exactly what many weight loss products and services use and exploit in order to get you to buy into their utterly false claims...
Factor 1 -- HOPE
Hope is a good thing, you need hope. But the problem is that many times you have such high hopes that you put those hopes into anything, regardless if its legit or not. By putting your hopes of weight loss into products and services that are not providing the necessary means you need, your ultimately setting yourself up for failure and your hopes will get crushed. Have hope, just make sure you put your hope into the right service and don't let your strong sense of hope blind you into not seeing the red-flags and other lies.
Bottom Line -- Don't let your strong sense of hope make you believe things that are not true!
Factor 2 -- Emotion
Lets face it, your weight and appearance can be a touchy, emotional subject. And it should be, its your life! But how many times have you seen a weight loss infomercial where someone breaks down into tears while talking about how miserable they were when overweight and how deeply happy and relieved they are now ... and how they owe it all to that particular weight loss product or "revolutionary system." The product is doing this intentionally!
Weight loss products know you're emotional about how you look ... they also know that when your emotional, it causes you to act on impulse. They have a better chance to "hook- you" when you're emotional and "touched." Products try to stir up your emotion in an effort to get you to act impulsively and buy into their claims. You should be emotional about your health and the way you look, but don't let them use your emotion against you. Don't let your emotion blind you into not seeing the red-flags and real reason that they're really there -- to get the "2 easy payments of $39.99" out of you!
Factor 3 -- Marketing Savvy & Media
Just because you're constantly seeing weight loss ads and commercials for diet pills and the new "xxx diet" does not mean it works and is credible. Just because you see a celebrity hosting the weight loss infomercial or program (who has been generously paid off ... do you really think a movie star is going to do an infomercial for free?) does not mean it's effective. What it does mean is that they have thousands, if not millions of dollars to pay for advertising and marketing so they can get their product in front of you, be it radio, television, internet etc. so they can constantly "pitch you."
How affective is marketing? Recently, a diet pill company was making the bogus claim "take our weight loss pill and you can eat what you want and burn fat as you sleep" and made $152 million in profit over 3 short years by doing radio commercials at over 600 stations across the country! That is until the Government stepped in and cracked down! And all the restaurants that are adding the "new xxx diet approved" menus, all they're doing is trying to make money too! Restaurants know that people are willingly paying, so why wouldn't they add low carb diet dishes (even though the number of calories in these dishes are alarmingly high and will cause you to pack on pounds!)
Realize, that just because you see a weight loss product time and time again on the television or radio does not mean it will be effective in losing permanent weight. All these weight loss companies are trying to do is get their product in front of you over and over so it will be there when you're ready to buy. Many people make the mistake of assuming a product is credible simply because it's constantly on television.
Factor 4 - Repetition
Diet pills and other weight loss products figure they more they can get in front of you, the more likely you're going to buy it when that time comes. Lets face it, if you were interested in building a deck, when that time comes don't you think your going to choose the "smith deck company" that you saw time and time again on TV. Most people will simply use the one that's most convenient and right there. Many times people just pick the first product or service that comes to their head and have high hopes that everything will just work out. Unfortunately, many times it's no different with weight loss products.
This is exactly why you see the same infomercial every day, every hour of the day for like 1 month straight ... and then all of a sudden it's gone. They get in, make their money on desperate people looking to lose weight, and then they get out! And if you see it again in like 3-4 months down the road, this means they made a lot of money on it previously and are back to make more. They wouldn't be there if they weren't making money - period!
The product is trying to pound it into you head and keep coming at you because they know, the more you see it, the more likely you will be to buy it. Don't get suckered! Just because they are always there, does not mean it will help you.
Factor 5 - Pressure
This is a big one. The bottom line -- when people are pressured they act impulsively. Often times you put way to much pressure on yourself. In today's society so much emphasis is placed on health and appearance. People feel pressured to look a certain way and this is certainly the case with being overweight as people will do anything to lose weight. Weight loss products go out of their way to put additional pressure on you, knowing that it will cause you to act and buy. Many of the weight loss infomercials are very good at the art of getting you to believe that ... "finally this is it, the only product that's going to change your life!" The truth is that all they're doing is adding additional pressure.
Bottom Line -- Don't let the pressure you feel to lose weight allow you to buy into and believe false claims. A sense of urgency to lose weight is good, but don't feel so pressured that it causes you to act impulsively and spend your hard - earned money on the first thing you come across that sounds good. When you feel pressured, it will allow you to start believing and putting your hopes into things that are not true because you feel like "I need to do something about my weight and I need to do it now!" Weight loss products know this and that is what they are wanting you to do. Don't allow it and don't allow yourself to be one of their guinea pigs! It will just cost you in the end!
General Rules To Keep In Mind When
Dealing With Weight Loss Products
Be Realistic -- If there was a way to "lose 30 pounds in 30 days and keep it off" or "eat what you want and still lose weight" don't you think that we would all look like supermodels?
Use Common Sense -- If there were magic diet pills or easy way to lose weight and keep it off, don't you think the top movie stars and celebrities who make millions and millions of dollars would have it.
Allow Yourself To Believe Both Sides -- If you're going to make the mistake of believing the lies and fabrications many weight loss products are telling you, at least allow yourself to believe that they may indeed be "lying and deceiving you" as well. It's only fair that you allow yourself to look at both sides as this will help you to form a better judgment.
"If It Was That Easy..." Lets face it, if it was as easy as all these health and weight loss infomercials and ab contraptions make it, the statistic of 95% failing would not exist! There would be no problems. Don't believe their lies and fabrications

The Ultimate Weight Loss Red-Flag Guide

The Ultimate Weight Loss Red-Flag Guide
by: Liz Guzzo, MS, RD., Mari Kudla

Weight Loss Red Flag Guide
Despite claims to the contrary, there are no magic potions or effortless ways to burn off fat. There are thousands upon thousands of weight loss web sites, low carb diets, diet pills and other "so-called experts" that prey on desperate overweight people and use overly optimistic claims that get you to believe and buy into their flat out lies -- reaping billions of dollars each year while your left still overweight and looking for answers.
In an effort to help and keep you from falling victim to the countless bogus weight loss claims of all the diet pills and many other weight loss products (essentially saving you money and time), here is a little guide that helps set the record straight as well as provide you with red flags to watch out for when researching or looking for weight loss help and support. A portion of this information is via The United States Federal Trade Commission...
If They Say ...
"An easy plan for losing up to 13 pounds in two weeks with little or no exercise...A program to let you keep losing"
"These patients started losing weight as soon as they went on the diet within the first week. These patients kept losing too...20, 30 even 50 pounds within months. They kept it off too."
Sorry, But The Truth Is ...
Red Flag Claim 1 --
Lose two pounds or more per week (for a month or more) without dieting or exercise.
The Truth --
Meaningful weight loss requires consuming fewer calories and/or increasing exercise. Ads that promise substantial weight loss without diet or exercise are false. A claim is false if it states or implies that users can lose lots of weight fast without changing their lifestyles, even if the ad doesn't mention specific amounts of weight loss or time periods.
If They Say ...
"Eat cake... a hamburger... toast with butter... and practically anything else you enjoy! This simple plan gets you thin - without sacrificing your favorite foods!"
"One of my overweight patients refused to give up his daily dish of ice cream. As a result of the diet he lost 30 pounds quickly. His weight has stayed off even though he never exercises and he still has his daily ice cream."
"Lose weight by eating more meals! Astounding reason on page x..."
"You decide how many pieces of meatloaf you want -- and the pounds still slip away!"
Sorry, But The Truth Is ...
Red Flag Claim 2 --
Eat what you want!
The more you eat, the more you lose and we'll show you how.
The truth --
It is impossible to eat unlimited amounts of food – any kind of food – and still lose weight. Any claim to that effect in an ad or commercial is false. Some products may help curb appetite or cravings. For these products, its okay to say people can eat what they want so long as it is clear from the ad or commercial that people will not want to eat as much food as before they started using the product.
If They Say ...
"The Super Fat-Fighting Formula inhibits fats, sugars and starches from being absorbed in the intestines and turning into excess weight, so that you can lose pounds and inches easily."
"These diet pills block fat before your body absorbs it; the pounds will melt away effortlessly."
Sorry, But The Truth Is ...
Red Flag Claim 3 --
Block the absorption of fat or calories, and lose substantial weight.
The Truth --
No fat blocker or diet pills can block enough fat or calories to cause lots of weight loss. Even the very few legitimate fat blockers must be used with a reduced-calorie diet to work.
If They Say ...
"Got a little extra baggage in your belly... thighs... buttocks? Here's the only sure way to trim the fat in those "trouble spots."
"We once thought a diet couldn't target fat in specific areas of the body. But the "xxx diet" changes that and proves that you can."
Sorry, But The Thruth Is ..
Red Flag Claim 4 --
You Can't Spot Reduce -- Period!
The Truth --
You absolutely can't tell your body where it will lose weight and shed pounds (spot reducing). The notion of a food or diet tricky enough to burn fat in specific areas is flat out ridiculous. You can "build up" specific areas in your body thru weight training, but losing weight in specific areas that you may want to improve is simply NOT possible.
If They Say ...
"But I have lost 6 pounds the very first week on this new low card diet..."
"I lost 11 pounds the first 2 weeks on this diet."
"Lose 13 pounds in 2 weeks with this brand new diet -- Guaranteed!"
Sorry, But The Truth Is ...
Red-Flag Claim 5 --
Water Weight, Water Weight, and More Water Weight --
The Truth --
Glycogen, your primary source for energy, attracts water. Your muscles are mostly made up of water. When you limit your carbohydrate intake, you hold onto less glycogen. Therefore, the initial weight loss you experience is due to water loss from your muscles. This can account for 4-10 pounds in the first week. Rapid water loss is the trick behind these diets. They make it appear quick and easy, while in reality it is a temporary solution

20 Ways to Reduce Blood Pressure Naturally

20 Ways to Reduce Blood Pressure Naturally
 by: Lee Cummings

Do You know someone who suffers from high blood pressure? Maybe You? Then this is good news!
Are you aware that there are simple and inexpensive ways to control blood pressure with food and supplements you already have in your kitchen?
Intelligent health conscious people like You can naturally understand these strategies to help maintain lower blood pressure levels.
Because when you understand and follow through with these steps, you will feel more energy and enjoy the benefits of lower blood pressure.
In my 10 years of studying nutrition and over 5 years of helping others solve their health problems, I have found that the experts agree that these steps are some of the most effective in lowering blood pressure naturally.
1. CoQ10 supplements – CoEnzyme Q10 or CoQ10 For short is a powerful anti-oxidant which is in every cell in your body. Your body uses CoQ10 to derive Energy.
In a double-blind placebo controlled study published in The Journal of Human Hypertension, The group which took CoQ10 for just 8 weeks showed a significant reduction of blood pressure.
Also in a University of Texas study, people taking oral CoQ10 after just one month experienced significant lowering of blood pressure and 51% of participants were able to discontinue blood pressure medication.
As a side note, blood pressure medication prevents the body from not only manufacturing its own CoQ10, but also your body's ability to absorb CoQ10. recommended dose: 100-200 mg gel caps each day to help lower blood pressure.
2. Vitamins, Herbs and Anti-oxidants
The following are Doctor recommended daily amounts.
Vitamin C - 1000 mg
Garlic - 2 cloves
Hawthorn berry - 500 mg
Omega 3 fatty acid fish oil Gel caps - 1000 mg
Vitamin b6 in a natural multivitamin
Magnesium - 500 mg
Astragalus root 500mg
3. Food Sources:
In a Greek study that examined the effects of the Mediterranean diet on 20,000 people proved that olive Oil, Fruits and Vegetables were significantly associated with lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Celery - 4 sticks a day, relaxes the smooth muscles in the blood vessels.
Fresh cold water fish which is high in Omega-3 fatty Acids.
Salt - let's understand the real reason why salt is important to your blood pressure.
We've all heard that you need to cut down on sodium in your diet, although this is not bad advice, it misses the point. High sodium intake alone does not increase blood pressure, it is an excess of sodium to potassium ratio.
The ideal ratio is five times as much potassium as sodium in Your diet. You'll get the best results by eating three servings A day of potassium rich foods such as:
Bananas – 1 large
Avocados – 1 cup
Beans – Ѕ cup
Squash – 1 cup
Tomatoes – Ѕ cup
Low levels of magnesium can also contribute to high Blood pressure, so here are some Magnesium rich foods:
Almonds – 1/3 cup
Tofu – Ѕ cup
Cashews – 1 cup
Raisin bran – 1/3 cup
And finally lets talk about what level of blood pressure is considered high. Right now the threshold pushed by mainstream medicine is 115/75 – 120/80 which WAS considered borderline LOW just 5 years ago.
This is because the standard for "high" blood pressure, just like the standard for cholesterol is repeatedly lowered to put more people on medication. Your individual risk factors and age play a big role in determining what is a good blood pressure level for YOU.
So don't just accept a one size fits all number when it comes to your blood pressure. Ask questions and discuss your health with a nutritionally educated Doctor to find what is best for you.
So what about YOU? Are You going to let the silent killer Sneak up on you? Or are You going to take action that will make this highly unlikely?
When You safe-guard Yourself with these proven techniques which You can easily incorporate into your life, then You will reap the healthy benefits.
Used in combination these natural, safe and proven techniques work wonders to keep your blood pressure down and allow you to experience a higher level of health without the unwanted side effects.
So take action now and get started today to do one thing from each of the three points above. Each day incorporate the food and supplements listed and You are well on Your way to lower blood pressure. These are proven, safe and inexpensive steps so You can enjoy the benefits now.

Seven Deadly Sins of Work Life Balance

Seven Deadly Sins of Work Life Balance
 by: Jennifer Jefferies

In the thirteenth century, Dante listed the Seven Deadly Sins on the pathway to Paradise: Gluttony, lust, greed, envy, pride, anger and sloth. Now, almost eight hundred years later, people are still committing these seven sins in Balancing Work and Play. So let me share with you the Seven Deadly Sins of Balancing Work and Play ... and how to avoid them.
1. Gluttony: Trying to be all things to all people
Don't try to be all things to all people. If you try to please everybody, you will end up satisfying nobody.
The secret to being successful at balancing life is to allow yourself to be human and release guilt from your life. Everyone gets wound up at times, when you notice it happening simply acknowledge where you are and move back to doing something more balanced. Don't give yourself a hard time or anything-just keep moving forward.
Success with a balanced life is just like success anywhere else: You choose your market, find a problem, and provide a superior solution. If you try to be all things to all people, you're not just a glutton – you're a glutton for punishment.
2. Lust: Falling in love with "gimmicks"
Focus your time, money and energy on the things that matter, not just those that catch your eye right now. This doesn't mean an endless quest for Mr. Right, but it does mean that you don't have to settle for Mr. Right Now.
When it comes to balancing your life, this means stop buying a new thing every time you feel stressed or unhappy. Shopping has become the latest way that people try to make themselves happy. You keep buying stuff that brings happiness for a very short period of time and when this wears off you're back at the shops again.
Next time you have this urge, speak to a close friend or colleague and share how you are feeling, if you just stop for a minute and acknowledge where you are at it passes. Go for things that really make you happy like time with good friends compared to short lived shopping trips for more dust collecting stuff.
3. Greed: Looking for too much too fast
When you first get started living a balanced life, there's a temptation to do everything at once. But if you chase two horses, you'll catch neither of them. The best way to get started is to choose one activity that is likely to give you high value, do that well, and then move on to the next.
That's not to say that you should only be doing one thing at a time. But just be sure that everything you do is done well. Go for quality not quantity.
4. Envy: Copying tactics that don't fit your strategy
A Russian soldier stationed in West Berlin after the Second World War wandered into an empty house and saw an electric light bulb for the first time. Fascinated by this magic light-generating globe, he cut it off with his bayonet and put it in his knapsack so he could carry around the light with him wherever he went.
The same is true with living a balanced life. Don't just do what somebody else tells you to do, unless you know why they do it. If they are successful, what they are doing is just one part of their strategy. You can't just pick up that one thing, put it in your knapsack, take it somewhere else and use it to light up your world.
For example, perhaps you know a person you see as living a balanced life you get all excited and choose to do the same things he or she is doing. The only problem is that you have no system to what you do, you shadow them and copy the superficial parts of their life and get exhausted doing it. Why, because they are doing the pieces behind the scenes elements as well, not just the apparent ones.
By all means, look around to see what others are doing, but don't just copy their tactics without understanding how and where they fit your life. Get the whole picture and then implement it as a system.
5. Pride: Holding on to things that aren't working
If what you're doing isn't working, do something else! I know that that sounds obvious, but it never ceases to amaze me how often people keep repeating unsuccessful patterns.
If you're running tired all of the time, or don't even have time to run tired, look at what you are doing. Your lifestyle is obviously not working for you if it is sucking the life out of you constantly. Find a system you can use to get what you want out of life and implement it one step at a time like you would with any new system in the workplace.
It usually doesn't take much effort to solve these problems. But the first step is to recognise them, and commit to doing something about them one step at a time.
6. Anger: Blaming other people for your lack of success
If you're not getting the success you desire, look to yourself first. Even if it is somebody else's "fault", you could be waiting a long time for them to fix things for you. It is far better to take responsibility yourself to find a solution.
For example, if you have lost your spark for life and your health is suffering, you need to look at what you have been doing to get to that state. You are responsible for what you put in your mouth each day, for how you treat yourself and for what you get out of life.
If you are treating your physical and emotional body like a second-class citizen then that is what you will get back in return. You will get a body that won't give you the energy for anything. Accept the responsibility and be healthy now.
7. Sloth: Dragging your feet
Above all, do it now! None of the other advice in this article will do you any good at all unless you take action.
It's too easy to say "I'll go to the gym next week", or "I'll start eating healthy tomorrow", or "I'll fix my office environment after I finish this next project."
It's often easy to take action, but it's almost always easy to not take action. Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people don't do.
Your success is in your hands – it's up to you!

Fitness & Muscle Building Know How for Hard Gainers

Fitness & Muscle Building Know How for Hard Gainers
 by: Indy Stewart

Hard gainers are individuals who train equally hard as other people but somehow fail to make any gains comparable to others. They need a lot more than hard training. Hard gainers need to incorporate many different principles in order to achieve their muscle building ambitions and goals. Many bodybuilders get to discover this through the hard way of personal experience, which results in wasted time, energy and money.
Majority of bodybuilding aspirants go to the gym with a well set belief that there is no such thing as training too often, too much nor too long. They do not bother to spend respectable amount of time in constructing an effective training regimen for themselves. Then there is this myth that if some is good, more would definitely be better. This misconception is the driving force behind most youngsters and hard gainers who weight train for stamina, strength and size.
Training on these principles ultimately, results in lack of muscle growth and to counter this problem they put in more training and the results go from bad to worse. Therefore it is good time to face the truth.
In the sport of bodybuilding; effort and effect do not show any evidence of a linear relationship. On the contrary, our bodies are fuel burning entities which are very complex and depend upon delicate balances. Improper and excessive training breaks downs these balances. Simply put, if you burn your energy reserves faster than they get replenished, you'll deplete the entire mechanism of strength, stamina and ability to recuperate.
In case you are a beginner bodybuilder, you must get your body conditioned to handle increased levels of stress rather that jump into the drive to achieve your goals quickly. It is wise for the beginners to keep their workout schedule to a maximum of three days per week, training the whole body in each workout and training each muscle group with a maximum of three sets per exercise. Each set should be taken to total failure, not mental failure but physical failure. In other words, don't quit mentally before your body says by itself to quit.
Bring variety in the types of exercises employed. If you take up exercise "A" for a muscle group in one workout, then take up exercise "B" for the same muscle group in the next workout.
Split training is suggested for the advanced bodybuilders. If your workout schedule comprises of training four days a week Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, separate body parts so that half of the body is worked on Monday and the other half on Tuesday.
As a muscle building addict you need to increase your protein intake with significant amounts than you take up in a normal active life. As soon as you substantially increase your protein consumption, your muscles size will increase gradually. In fact, if you are a hard gainer then this may be your root problem. As per modern standards you need at least two grams of protein per pound of your body weight. A 150 pound individual, for example, needs at least 300 grams of protein a day, to increase muscle size, but most bodybuilders don't even take fifty percent of this requirement.
Lastly, your training program should emphasize more on the use of free weights over machines. And always be sure that you have warmed up adequately before you start lifting weights for muscle building.
