Want To Grow Taller? Pay Attention To Your Nutrition For Height Increase.

Want To Grow Taller? Pay Attention To Your Nutrition For Height Increase.
 by: Cher Sern Lim

Humans grow fastest during the first two to three years of life. Then the height growth slows down through childhood until about age 10 or 11.
At this point, girls accelerate in height to reach their maximum by age 17 while boys shoot up a little later, reaching their tallest by age 20. One of America's most famous tall people, Wilt Chamberlain, hit a major growth spurt at age 15, when he grew four inches in three months. By the time he started playing college basketball he had reached a towering 7 feet 1 inch.
Growth beyond the age of 20 is rare. But interestingly, late growth spurts are more likely to occur when poor nutrition has inhibited growth earlier in life. In the malnourished communities in South America, for example, people continued growing throughout their 20s. But these people did not grow as tall as most Americans, since they grew less during the more critical years of childhood.
In modern times, being tall can help a person be more successful - sexually and professionally. In the United States, anecdotal evidence suggests that taller people appear more attractive and so have an easier time finding sexual partners.

Why Americans. Potential Height Increase Have Reduced Significantly

Why Americans' Potential Height Increase Have Reduced Significantly
 by: Cher Sern Lim

There was a time when most American children were expected to grow taller than their parents. Since the early 20th century, children and adolescents grew about an inch and a half taller every 20 years. But recent height measurements suggest that the average height of Americans has reached a plateau.
Data collected showed that the average height for Americans has stabilized in the past 50 years to about 5 feet 9 inches for men and 5 feet 4 inches for women. The reason is that most Americans now face few nutritional or health-related stresses in their youth. People experience the most height increase as infants and then as adolescents. Most Americans have avoided disease and eaten enough meat and milk in their youth to grow taller and reach their genetic height potentials.
While overall U.S. height averages have more or less stabilized, there are small pockets of the population where slight increases in height are likely still happening. Studies dating from the 1930s have demonstrated how a person's environment and nutrition can directly affect a person's height, size and dimensions.
Overwhelmingly, the children who had received adequate supplements in their youth grew taller and were even more successful throughout life. That's just one of the benefits of being tall and maximising potential height increase.

Truly an international event, Iron Man Hawaii 2005 has produced such champions as Mark Allen, Paula Newby-Fraser and many more. Diet Basics...What's It All About?

Diet Basics...What's It All About?
 by: Gregory Boileau

Does trying to understand the diet basics create frustration, fear, and feelings of helplessness about the truth?
Do you find that you get sidetracked by all the glitter of most internet diet sites before you realize what is really important to you and what has true value?
Scientific ideas are continually changing, and as they empty their discoveries on the world, you will stagger beneath them in utter confusion. Try as you do, you will find yourself behind in the diet race in spite of yourself. It's an incessive strain to keep pace...
And still, you will lose ground. The entertainment world, the internet, and even political agendas will leave you out of breath trying to keep pace with who's in and who's out.
Everything is hyper high pressure!
Go ahead and scream because you most surely deserve it. After all, what do the experts say you should be eating this week? Bread was banned a couple of years ago, pasta is definitely outlawed by now, and even healthy carrots and bananas have a bad rap.
If you've been struggling to lose weight for over a decade I'm sure you've lived through the low fat high carb days, the low carb to no car era and now you're realizing once again you've done it all wrong. Yes, if you're an attentive dieter you most likely have realized that the newest approach to lose weight is through some sort of low glycemic index diet.
How much more can you take? If you're like most probably not much more, or can you? If you really want to lose weight on a Fad diet you have to go back to the principles that govern the human organism. This is a little too complex to go into detail in such a short article, but here are just the basics.
The human organism is made up of water, protein, fat and nutrients and minerals. It uses fat and carbohydrates as fuel, but will use protein as a fuel source if it finds itself in a state of starvation. To lose weight the human organism has to consume the correct building blocks that make up its structure and provide it with fuel. If it does not do this correctly the organism will turn into a 'soggy' structure.
Nobody wants a soggy, deficient structure, but the world we live in today develops food that encourages this type of configuration. You do have choices though. Make sure you educate yourself about health, fitness, nutrition and then take action.

Protect Your Reading Glasses With The Right Case

Protect Your Reading Glasses With The Right Case
 by: Steve Cogger

Taking good care of your reading classes is important. Storing your reading glasses while not in use is one of the most important parts of reading glasses care. There are many varieties of cases available. Each type of reading glasses has a certain type of case that should be used with them.
Protecting your reading glasses by putting them in a case when you are not using them is one major way to prolong their life. By using a reading glasses case you will prevent accidents that could ruin them. Metal frames are easily bent and the exposed hinges can be snapped. Plastic frames are more durable than metal, but if stepped on can break just as easily. Lens can be scratched, chipped or cracked if not protected. Damage to your reading glasses can be avoided by using a case.
Many reading glasses come with a case when you buy them, but sometimes there is a need to purchase a new or different case. Mini reading glasses almost always come with a case designed specifically for this type of reading glasses. The case is small in size, hard and latches shut. Mini reading lasses are the most fragile type and these cases are made to ensure they stay safely in the case without the risk of getting smashed. Plastic or metal reading glasses can be used with either a hard or soft case. Most likely a soft case will come with plastic reading glasses. The soft fabric protects the lens while the soft case is basically just storage for the reading glasses. Hard cases offer more protection from being dropped or smashed. Choosing the right case will protect your reading glasses the best.
A reading glasses case is essential to make sure your reading glasses are around for a long time. Cases protect from frame and lens damage. Certain cases are made for certain types of reading glasses and the right one for your type of reading glasses should be chosen carefully. Never forget a case for reading glasses when you are purchasing a new pair.

Contact Lens Options for Your Pediatric Patients

Contact Lens Options for Your Pediatric Patients
 by: Steve Cogger

Pediatric patients are some of the most special patients we see in any practice. When infants present for contact lenses, we all know it is a medical necessity.
The practitioners at my practice believe that contact lenses should not be any more of a burden on the parents than they have to be. And let’s face it, inserting and removing lenses on an infant or a toddler is not an easy task for most.
Regardless, every parent or caregiver is instructed on the insertion and removal of their child’s contact lens. Despite our best efforts, some parents are still hesitant to perform this task at home. In these cases, the child is fit with an extended wear lens made of either soft silicone or an approved gas permeable material. We love watching these kids grow, so we have the parents bring in their child on prescribed schedule to have the lens removed, cleaned, and re-inserted.
Many of the children who have worn lenses in this modality are growing up with superb vision. Some are learning to insert and remove their own lenses as early as age 4! Close monitoring by both the contact lens fitters and the referring doctor leads to happy and successful patients.

FDA Approves New Therapy for Depression

FDA Approves New Therapy for Depression
 by: Charles E. Donovan

On July 18, 2005, the FDA approved vagus nerve stimulation therapy as a treatment for chronic depression. This is the first ever FDA-approved long term treatment option for sufferers of treatment-resistant depression(TRD). Over four million Americans suffer from TRD.
I was a study patient in the investigational clinical trial of vagus nerve stimulation and depression.
Just over four years ago, I sat in the Psychiatrist's office at the study site (there were 20 different sites around the United States) that was conducting the investigational clinical trial for vagus nerve stimulation as a therapy for chronic or treatment-resistant depression. I had found about the study completely by accident. I was desperate (not suicidal). I had gone through the merry-go-around of all available antidepressants/antidepressants combinations, ECT, psychotherapy, etc. I was tired and worn out from living in utter despair.
I had never heard of the vagus nerve (it is the longest nerve in the body, averaging 25 inches in length, passes through the neck and thorax into the abdomen). There were no patient educational materials or anything in the medical literature about vagus nerve stimulation and depression for me to review. The doctor explained to me the procedure, described my obligations as a study subject and that the study was a double-blind, place-controlled study.
Because it was a placebo-controlled study, it meant that I had only a 50% chance of having the device activated, after being implanted, during the acute part of the study (which could last up to six months). I had just two questions: 1) was the procedure safe? and 2) was the procedure related to ECT? Since ECT was not effective for me and was a horrible experience, I didn't want to go through anything like that again. The doctor assured me of the safety of the implant and that it was not in any way related to ECT.
I signed various legal papers including an 11-page consent form. I had nothing to lose. Three and a half months later I was approved to be included in the study and implanted with the VNS Therapy System™. The rest, as they say, is history.
I have never been told when the device was activated or ramped up to higher levels of stimulation. Even today, I have no idea of the current level of the device settings.
At some point after being implanted, the device was activated and the level of stimulation was ramped up. Gradually over time my depression and mood improved. I started out at very severely depressed, then severe, moderate/severe, moderate, mild/moderate, mild and then complete remission( although at times my family would probably say that I bypassed remission and went straight to "pain in the ass!"). Obviously, my life has been completely changed by vagus nerve stimulation. I am so humbled and grateful at the good fortune that has been bestowed upon me. I was a goner. And now I'm back. Vagus Nerve Stimulation is not a cure for depression. It is an alternative therapy for patients that have not had an adequate response to traditional antidepressants.
Vagus nerve stimulation is a ninety-minute out patient procedure. It is not related to ECT or brain surgery. There is no cognitive impairmant(i.e. memory loss). A small pacemaker-like device is implanted in the patient's upper left chest and one lead wire is tunneled underneath the patient's skin and coiled around the left vagus nerve. The vagus nerve has a direct pathway to those areas of the brain that are responsible for mood and depression.
A prescription from your psychiatrist will be required for the procedure.

Snoring Aids

Snoring Aids
 by: Andrew Gipson

Anti-snoring devices range from the very simple, to the somewhat complex. The majority of devices are available in drug stores or through direct mail (postal or Internet/e-commerce). The most common and effective devices and snoring aid are described below.
• The "Sandler" Pillow™
A popular non-surgical device used to alleviate snoring is called The Sandler pillow (named after its inventor). This pillow, by design, compels the sleeper to sleep on his/her side. Since sleeping on the side generally closes the mouth, this can prevent some kinds of mild snoring from occurring (the vibration is still there, but the snoring does not escape the mouth).
• The Snore Ball
Invented in the early 20th century, the snore ball has undergone a series of advancements, and modern versions are available today. Snore balls are devices that the snorer puts on their back while sleeping (i.e. putting it in a pouch on the back of their pajamas). When these people move to sleep on their back – and thus generally open their mouths while the sleep and emit loud snoring – the snore ball gives them a wake up call of discomfort.
As you can easily imagine, the snore ball is not the most painless of options

Symptoms Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Symptoms Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
 by: Wendy Butler

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome vary quite widely from patient to patient, but there are some common symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome that can indicate an IBS diagnosis. They include: diarrhea constipation alternating diarrhea and constipation stomach pain bloating excess gas or wind nausea.
You do not need to have all of these symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome to be diagnosed with the disease, but patients will usually have some diarrhea or constipation plus stomach pain. These symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome keep coming back over a period of time, as IBS is a fairly long-term condition, and should not be confused with normal stomach upsets or occasional bouts of constipation.
Generally, patients with symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome find that they fit into one of three groups - diarrhea-predominant IBS, constipation-predominant IBS, or alternating diarrhea and constipation.
One of the common symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome in IBS sufferers is that their stomach pain is relieved when they have a bowel movement. They may find that the consistency or shape of their stool changes, and they may also pass some mucus in the stool.
It is vital that you are properly diagnosed with IBS by a medical professional, as bowel symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be the result of many other health conditions such as celiac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases. It is not possible to accurately self-diagnosis IBS and you may put your health at risk if you do so. In particular, the following symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome are not typical of IBS and must be investigated further: pain that often awakens/interferes with sleep diarrhea that often awakens/interferes with sleep blood in your stool weight loss fever abnormal physical examination.
Most individuals are surprised to learn they are not alone with symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In fact, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 10-20% of the general population. It is the most common disease diagnosed by gastroenterologists (doctors who specialize in medical treatment of disorders of the stomach and intestines) and one of the most common disorders seen by primary care physicians.
Sometimes irritable bowel syndrome is referred to as spastic colon, mucous colitis, spastic colitis, nervous stomach, or irritable colon.
Irritable bowel syndrome is understood as a multi-faceted disorder. Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome result from what appears to be a disturbance in the interaction between the gut or intestines, the brain, and the autonomic nervous system that alters regulation of bowel motility (motor function) or sensory function.
In symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome abdominal pain or discomfort is associated with a change in bowel pattern, such as loose or more frequent bowel movements, diarrhea, and/or constipation.
Treatment options are available to manage IBS - whether the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome are mild, moderate, or severe.

All About Plantar Warts

All About Plantar Warts
 by: Michael Sanford

Some of us still believe with the old folk tale, that you will get some warts when you touched a toad. Don't you know that when you take a public shower or simply when you just walk around bare footed will possibly increase the plantar warts in your feet? When your feet perspire and the moisture is trapped, the plantar warts spread out in the area of the foot, in which they increase in size and have their babies. These could be some of the possible reasons why some of us have plantar warts.
Well, some of us are not aware of these plantar warts. Plantar warts are just the common skin infection on the bottom side of our foot. Most teenagers have warts and these plantar warts are cause by the virus that usually enters the body through a break in the skin. The virus of the plantar warts often grows in warm, moist environments. It could be difficult for you to determine the plantar warts from the calluses, in which plantar warts can erupt anywhere on a particular foot. Anyhow, the plantar warts have tiny black dots on the surface layer, where these are the ends of the capillary blood vessels. While the calluses have no blood vessels and usually resemble a yellow candle, wax and are located only over the weight bearing areas of the foot which are perpetually irritated. Since plantar warts are soft tissue condition of the foot, they can too be painful. Since the virus can interfere the skin through those small and invisible cuts and scuff, the warts can appear anywhere on the skin, but those who are on the sole are only suitably called as plantar warts.
The plantar warts appear to be hard, flat, with its rough surface, and well-defined boundaries. They warts are commonly raised and fleshier every time they appear on the top of the foot or on the toes. The color of the plantar warts sometimes varies. They are often gray or brown, with a center that appears as one or more pinpoints of black. Some people used to walk barefoot on dirty surfaces or littered ground, which they don't even think that those viruses are waylaying. If the plantar warts are not treated well, the warts can possibly spread out to an inch or more in circumference and can multiply into clusters of several warts, often called the mosaic warts. Plantar warts are a kind of infectious lesions, where it can be spread through scratching, touching, or even by having contact with skin shed from another wart. The bleeding of the warts may cause another plot to create other warts.
Even though warts are harmless, they too are painful. However, the first thing that you should do if they are painful is to seek treatment. You should consult for the best physician that carefully will trim the warts, and will apply a chemically treated dressing. Usually, the physician gives the patient of the plantar warts some information for him to follow for a self-care. The salicylic acid patches are required to be applied on a daily basis, and having proper foot hygiene includes the regular use of the burnish stone so to free your feet from the plantar warts. Nevertheless, sometimes, it may take a few weeks for the entire plantar warts to disappear. There are some instances that the plantar warts are develop on the weight bearing of the foot, particularly on the ball of the foot, or the heel, which sometimes causes to be the source of a sharp and burning pain. The pain usually occurs when the weight is brought directly on the wart. If possible, the treatment is required to be repeated regularly until the plantar warts are impaired. Though plantar warts disappear after a short time, they can recur too in the same location, frequently.
Everyone must take some prevention to avoid having the warts on our body, or having the plantar warts on our feet. You should prevent walking barefooted, but except on sandy beaches. It is required to change your shoes or your socks everyday, and must keep your feet clean and dry always. Checking the feet of your children habitually is one way of practicing their personal hygiene too. If possible, you should avoid having a direct contact with warts, or from other persons who have warts on the body, so to assure of having a hygienic body. Growths on, or some changes in your skin should not be ignored. Have some time to visit your podiatric physician.

Support Cancer Research, Wear Cancer Wristbands
 by: Michael Sanford

Cancer is a very serious illness. This dreaded disease has caused many deaths; cancer is a disease that's characterized by uncontrollable cell division and the danger of these mutant cells to invade the neighboring healthy cells and infect them. There are many types of cancer and most of them are deadly which can cause death, while there are some treatments available; there has been no known cure that's potently effective just yet. Some treatments can kill the cancerous cells while some control the symptoms such as pain. Millions every year gets afflicted with different types of cancer and millions more die every year all over the world. They are called cancer research. In cancer research they discover new methods of treating cancer with the development of new technology and new discoveries about the disease. With proper funding, cancer researches would be able to flourish and hopefully find the perfect cure.
Many organizations have been doing their best to help fund this research facilities, doing fund raising projects and programs for public awareness. It is essential for the public to take notice of this programs because anyone from anywhere can be afflicted with cancer. Gradually, more and more people have found ways in doing both, raising funds for cancer and spreading awareness. When doing such, you hit the head of a nail twice making it more beneficial for cancer victims. The current popular method is by selling cancer wristbands, which are inscribed with inspiring and informing statements.
Cancer wristbands have been the craze lately, many are wearing them because they are cool and fashionable and yet they help out in finding a cure for cancer. Remember the ribbons everybody used to wear for AIDS. Cancer Wristbands now are what the AIDS ribbons were then. This stretchy cancer wristbands, usually made from either from rubber or silicone, are a great way to do fundraising. They are one size fits all and don't cost too much. There is a 100 percent profit in cancer wristbands, which may be donated to cancer researches and also boost cancer awareness. In doing so, you not only get a cool looking cancer wristband, you are also helping out the countless cancer victims all over the world.
Many say that this trend started out when Lance Armstrong came out yellow "LiveStrong" wristband to promote and fund cancer research. That promotion had all the right ingredients to capture the people's interest. Present was the revered American icon asking the people for help, the item was very affordable, was a good conversation peace and it showed that if you were wearing it, you were concerned about other people and their needs. It was also for a cause everyone wanted to help in and deserved all the help t can get. Soon enough, everyone was wearing them, from high profile people, to entertainers with big names straight to the president.
After that, many cancer wristbands went into the market spreading the word, many organizations joined the bandwagon and produced their own cancer wristbands. It has come to be that the color of the cancer wristband represented which type of cancer was to be benefited; for example, pink bracelets were in aid for breast cancer. Messages and statements would be inscribed in the bracelets empowering the knowledge of the people about cancer and tugging their hearts and the hearts of others to help out for the worthy cause.
Cancer wristbands are not only cool, they also help out, many small organizations can help out by browsing the internet and order them from reputable manufacturers who pledge assistance for every cancer wristband you purchase. You may also do your own fundraising; some sites offer very low prices for wholesale purchases so that you can sell them at a markup price so you can have earnings to donate to research facilities. Be aware, support cancer wristbands to help cancer research.

Do You Think You Are Anorexic As Others?

Do You Think You Are Anorexic As Others?
 by: Michael Sanford

There are many ways of which to obtain weight loss and some of these techniques are excessive exercise, intake of laxatives and not eating. Some people submit themselves to starving – this is what you call anorexia. These are the people who believe that they would be happier and most successful if they were thin. Anorexia is an eating disorder that usually begins in young people around the onset of puberty, mostly for teenage girls, but it can also appear to teenage boys and adult men and women. Typically, anorexic have extreme weight loss which is usually 15% below the person's normal body weight. People suffering from anorexia are very skinny but are convinced that they are overweight.
Generally, anorexic individuals have the intense fear of becoming fat thus pushing them to have their dieting habits particularly with adolescent girls. They continuously think that they are overweight even after they become extremely thin, very ill and near death. Anorexic often have a strange eating habit like refusing to eat in front of other people or preparing meals but refuse to eat any of it.
Anorexic people have many medical risks including mineral loss, low body temperature, irregular heartbeat, shrunken bones, permanent failure of normal growth, development of osteoporosis and bulimia nervosa. Other anorexic persons show many symptoms of anorexia while others don't. Symptoms include body that is inconsistent with age and build and height that is usually 15% below the normal weight. Other symptoms are loss of at least 3 consecutive menstrual periods for girls, not wanting or refusing to eat in public, anxiety, and shortness of breath, weakness, brittle skin, and obsessiveness about calorie intake. Other anorexic individuals continuously use laxatives without even knowing that the excessive use of the thing is harmful to their body. It wears out the bowel muscle thus causing it to decrease in function. These laxatives contain harsh substances that may be reabsorbed into the human system.
Since most anorexic individuals are women and with the fact that they are to be conceiving a child any time in their future and will be going through pregnancy stages, it's like you're telling the anorexic women that she has to gain 100 pounds. Anorexic women will definitely have trouble conceiving a baby and carrying it to its full term. The irregular menstrual cycles and weak bones make it more difficult to conceive. Both you and the baby you are conceiving could be in danger you being underweight and don't eat proper variety of foods. Women with eating disorders such as anorexia have higher rates of miscarriages and the baby might be born prematurely thus putting them at risk for many medical problems. Particularly those anorexic pregnant women, they should always take proper pre-natal care such as taking pre-natal vitamins and having regular pre-natal visits. It is a good idea to enroll in a prenatal exercise class to be sure you are not overexerting yourself.
Generally, anorexic has a poor self-image, low self-esteem, loss of control and a yearning for a better body as they are obsessed with being thin. Anorexic individuals lose a lot of weight and terrified of gaining weight. They believe they are fat even though they are very thin. Therefore, they tend to starve themselves, avoiding high calorie foods and exercise constantly. Moreover, treating anorexic is difficult because people with anorexia believe that there is nothing wrong with them. Anorexic who are on their early stages of anorexia may be successfully treated without having to be admitted to the hospital. However, those anorexic who are with more serious conditions need care in the hospital and usually in a special unit of people with anorexia and bulimia. The patient often needs counseling so they can work on changing the feelings that are causing their eating problems. Most importantly, family and friends of anorexic individuals may help in making the patient feel safe, secure and comfortable with their illness.

Add Healthy Fat to your Diet

Add Healthy Fat to your Diet
 by: Richard Moore

Easy ways to include important good-for-you fats in your everyday diet. Add Healthy Fat to Your Diet
1. Try to eat fish twice a week, especially salmon, herring or mackerel. Avoid frozen breaded products made with hydrogenated oil.
2. Sprinkle 2 tsp (10 mL) ground flaxseeds on your cereal or yogurt a few times a week.
3. Use olive or canola oil in salad dressing.
4. Choose cookies and crackers that are not made with hydrogenated oil.
5. If you have a craving for chocolate, eat a few squares of good-quality chocolate made without hydrogenated oil.
6. Occasionally sprinkle walnuts, almonds or peanuts over salads, add them to baking or eat as a fast snack.
7. If there's a choice at a cocktail party, nibble on unsalted almonds or walnuts -- both contain unsaturated fats.
8. Occasionally add an avocado to your salad. It's a great source of monounsaturated fat, which is linked to a reduced risk of breast cancer.
9. Buy omega-3 eggs, which come from hens fed on flaxseed. They contain seven to 12 times more omega-3 than regular eggs.

8 Ways To Fall In Love With Fitness

8 Ways To Fall In Love With Fitness
 by: Richard Moore

No, it's not impossible. You can fall in love with exercise instead of having that dreaded feeling every time you lace up your sneakers. The trick to falling in love with fitness is finding something you love to do, and trying new things because you may discover a dormant passion for line dancing, snow shoeing, or even something as exotic as fencing. It's time to uncover your inner athlete and fall in love all over again!
Balls, Bosu and Barrels – If you were the kid who was always climbing the monkey bars and ropes at the park, you'll have tons of fun getting fit with these fitness tools. Exercise balls can be used for all kinds of abdominal exercises, a Bosu is a neat device for balance training and core stability exercises, and you can use a small barrel for practicing Pilates – all in the comfort of your own home. So next time your at the park with your kids, they'll be chasing you on the monkey bars!
Square Dancing – This energetic style of dance may look strange to you – but it's great exercise – and great fun! This folk dancing tradition has existed in Canada for hundreds of years and has maintained its popularity as a social activity often deemed "friendship set to music." Now this form of dance is even more popular as people are doh-si-dohing their way to being fit! Don't knock IT before you try it! You may forget you're getting fit because you're having so much fun!
Snowshoeing – Snowshoes are thousands of years old, and Native Canadians used to use snowshoes as a form of transport. Only in the last century has snowshoeing become a recreational sport. Now, Canadians across the country are strapping on their snowshoes and heading for the trails to spend some time outdoors, at one with nature, while boosting cardiovascular fitness and toning their backsides. Today's modern snowshoes are typically lightweight, aluminum frames with fabric decks and strap bindings as opposed to the classic bent-wood frames crisscrossed with rawhide strips. In recent years, many celebrities have talked about the physical benefits of snowshoeing, especially when it comes to toning your glutes and quads.
Snowshoes are inexpensive compared to skis and snowboards, and snowshoeing is not a difficult sport, but don't let that fool you into thinking you are not getting a good workout. Using poles, whether specially designed for snowshoeing or made for cross-country skiing, they will help you maintain balance and give your upper body a good workout too, especially when you're doing some intense climbing.
Buddy Up! – It's no secret that having a fitness buddy helps get you going. Let's face it, when your doorbell rings at 6 a.m., you're not going to hide under the covers and ignore your buddy. Or, when your work buddy grabs you for your daily lunchtime power walk, you're less likely to sit at your desk and graze. A workout buddy provides a little extra incentive to get you going, and a little less response time to say no to exercise!
Feel Good in Fun Clothes! – Remember the old adage about how when you look good, you feel better? This goes for the gym too. If you buy yourself some fun fitness clothes that you feel good in, you are more likely to have more confidence in yourself and as a result, push yourself harder at the gym. Stores like Winners and The Bay offer great deals on workout clothes that are able to stand up to any fitness test. Remember, if you look the part, you're more likely to feel the part!
Bring the Outdoors Inside – So what if the temperature is way below zero and the wind chill is making you shake like a leaf. Quit lamenting warm days gone by, and bring your beloved outdoor sports indoors. Shed all your layers, and find an indoor rollerblading rink, grab your tennis partner and hit your local tennis club, climb the rock wall at your local YMCA, hit a spinning class, or throw on your bathing suit and swim laps at your local pool. Create your own warmth, and you won't be missing those days any longer.
Position Yourself Properly – Sometimes watching others can give you just the boost you need to get going at the gym. Look around you and position yourself next to someone who inspires you and watch yourself take off! You'll soon be running to keep up with them...
Take Your Toddler With You– Most mothers never know when they'll be able to squeeze in a little exercise time while running their kids around all day. Nowadays, many gyms have daycares, but if you don't want to leave your children, you can exercise with them! Of course, you can run around outside all together, play in the snow, and build snowmen. But, if it's too cold, why not try a kid-friendly Pilates video? Most companies which sell Pilates videos have kid-friendly ones too. Your kids will have a blast getting fit with you while trying all those fun exercises!

The Formula for Preventing Depression

The Formula for Preventing Depression
 by: Paul M. Jerdard Jr.

While it is arguable that depression is not always preventable, there are many cases, when using the following ideas, will keep you in good spirits - most of the time. Unfortunately, we cannot be happy all of the time, but there is something we can do about it.
Working with a variety of clients over the years, I have seen how Yoga and exercise changed, and continue to change, them for the better. It is a well-known fact that endorphins are produced from a variety of exercise routines, including gentle Hatha Yoga.
Endorphins reduce stress and enhance good moods. Just that information alone is enough to start an exercise program, but weight control, muscle-tone, circulation, flexibility and a variety of other health benefits, should be an incentive to start a mild exercise program.
If you have been inactive, I suggest a beginner Yoga class with a very mild-mannered Yoga teacher. Without pushing this any further, let's look at other options to start, and things to avoid.
Participate in social activities, support groups, senior centers, or local church activities. The activities could be in your local mosque, temple, or shrine, as well. There is always an activity that you can find around any religious center.
You could also join a league for golf, tennis, fishing, bowling, bocce, or any other activity where people gather to share a few laughs. Take competition in stride, and don't take anything too serious.
Many social groups also function as support groups. The collective activity is good for all involved. Stay away from "alcohol drinking" clubs. This is not just bars, or nightclubs, but local clubs, who organize for the common good, and then, routinely get together to drink.
There is a conflict here, in that alcohol is a depressant, and if you are prone to depression, this is not a good combination. On top of that, there are plenty of health problems that accompany alcohol abuse.
Substance abuse is not a solution to depression, and you won't find a purpose in life through it. So, let's keep it simple and stay away from drinking alcohol - altogether.
If your friends and family abuse alcohol, they need counseling, and you will have to look outside your normal circles to get guidance. You need to surround yourself with positive and energetic people.
Also, don't hang around your house too much, especially in dark or unlit areas. Get outside, take a walk, go shopping, get a little sunlight, and if you are in the house all day, open the curtains during daylight hours. If you have a sunroom to relax in - that's good, too. Lack of sunlight can cause elevated levels of melatonin, which is sometimes called the "sleep hormone."
Lastly, visit the self-improvement section of your local bookstore. It is a hidden treasure within itself. This is a great reason to leave the house.
Audio books are also good for traveling in your car or listening to in your sunroom. Pick out books that really captivate your imagination. If your local bookstore has CD's, you may want to pick up some relaxing music for your ride home.

Yoga is a Safe Solution to Weight Control

Yoga is a Safe Solution to Weight Control
 by: Paul M. Jerard Jr.

One more study tells the world, that Yoga can help with weight control and weight loss. The latest study was held by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.
The study involved 15,500 healthy, middle-aged, men and women. This is a group that typically has difficulty with weight loss, since the number of calories needed declines, and the energy levels needed to burn calories, is not what it used to be.
Unfortunately, this is a fact that I have become painfully aware of during the past few years, and cutting back on food was my unwanted last option. Although, I cross train almost daily, it took me one year to lose 16 pounds of extra weight.
Back to the study: Yoga practice was defined as practicing at least 30 minutes once a week for four or more years. Comparatively speaking, this is truly "bare minimum," and many Yoga teachers used to say that this amount of Yoga will do nothing.
How times change; Yoga has been keeping people fit for approximately 5,000 years, and its many health benefits are still a mystery worthy of more studies.
Alan R. Kristal, Dr.P.H., the study's lead author at Hutchinson Center's Public Health Sciences Division said, "Men and women who were of normal weight at age 45, and who regularly practiced Yoga, gained about three fewer pounds during that 10-year period than those who didn't practice Yoga."
Until all the studies are in, it would be safe to say that adding Yoga practice to your weekly routine, and eating wisely, will contribute to weight control or weight loss.
When seeking a Yoga teacher, find one who is compassionate, yet will encourage you to practice more frequently. The results you will gain from regular practice, of three to four Yoga classes per week, will be extraordinary, especially, if you practice Yoga for years.
Yoga is very low impact - in comparison to many aerobic exercise routines, and can be practiced for longevity. Your knees, spine, hips, and shoulders, will thank you for the condition Yoga will keep them in. Many of today's "standard" forms of exercise do not have the same "bragging rights," as Yoga.
With respect to eating, take the time to identify hunger and cravings. You will notice that they are not the same thing. Being a chocolate lover, it is much better to eat a piece of chocolate, now and then, than to buy a dozen chocolate donuts. This is not to justify, or surrender, to chocolate, but to eat it in moderation, and not every day.
Based upon what I have said so far, it is all about identification, control, and moderation. We have to stop "mindless eating" habits.
Recently, researchers found that women who received a 1200 mg. calcium supplement, on a daily basis, reduced their number of premenstrual food cravings by 54%.
On another note: When you have anxiety, your body produces more of the hormone cortisol, which may increase the volume of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates temporarily increase our levels of serotonin, making us feel relaxed for the short term.
Learn the art of substituting foods for more nutritionally dense variations. I cover this, in detail, in my eBook, "14 Days to Change Your Life," which will be released in August 2005.
Being in the best shape you can be is also connected to positive thinking. Therefore, use self-improvement sources to keep you on the right track toward optimum health.

Yoga - The Solution for Insomnia

Yoga - The Solution for Insomnia
 by: Paul M. Jerard Jr.

At one time, or another, all of us have experienced insomnia for any type of reason. There are times when lack of sleep just can't be helped, such as: the loss a loved one, going through a divorce, and losing your job.
These are some of life's serious crisis situations, where we have to let time heal, and try not to fall apart in the process. Some of the solutions below will help insomnia, but they will not heal grief.
However, if you are continually staying awake over trivial matters, these solutions will aid you to get a good night's rest. Remember - not every solution will work for everyone, so try the easiest ideas and make them fit into your lifestyle.
Do you have one or more problems, on your mind, that are troubling you at bedtime? If so, write it down and leave it on the kitchen table where you sit in the morning. This is a form of compartmentalization, where your subconscious mind works on a solution, and you and your conscious mind get some needed rest.
You will be surprised what happens the following morning. The problem is much less important or your subconscious found the solution. This technique is so powerful that many successful people use it, even when they don't really have a problem. This keeps you organized, on a daily basis, and you will get more accomplished in life.
That leads into the next idea, which is establishing a daily routine. Your body has a natural cycle, and most of us ignore it. Modern humans are more out of tune with their bodies than ever before, so we have to get back to basics and design a schedule for all tasks - including sleep.
You should exercise every day, but your exercise routine should end two hours before bedtime, at the latest. This allows your body and mind "cool down" time. If you can exercise earlier in the day, feel free to do so.
Exercise will give you extra energy during the day, and help you get a good night's sleep, when you need it. If you don't exercise, don't feel alone, but do take action. Gentle Yoga postures are a great way to start.
If you find the right Yoga teacher, you will learn controlled breathing (pranayama), stage-by-stage relaxation, and meditation. Each is a powerful technique for winding down before bedtime. You always practice controlled breathing with either, stage-by-stage relaxation, or meditation. Some people practice stage-by-stage relaxation in bed and fall asleep in the process. This is not a bad thing, if your ultimate goal is to fall asleep.
Now let's look at a few other ideas, such as alcohol and hidden caffeine. Alcohol has a way of getting you to sleep, but sleep is often interrupted during the night. One suggestion, if you enjoy drinking: Have one small drink; preferably wine, with your meal.
Caffeine is in coffee, many teas, many sodas, and a variety of other drinks. Drink water later in the day, and give your body a rest from caffeine.
Here are a few actions to take before bedtime: Eat very light, read a book about something peaceful, and take a shower or a bath. You don't have to do everything, but one of the above-mentioned ideas will work for you.
Sweet Dreams.

4 Things Cause Sciatica... What's Causing Your Pain?

4 Things Cause Sciatica... What's Causing Your Pain?
 by: Jesse Cannone

If you're reading this article, it's a good bet that you have a radiating pain running down the back of your leg that just won't go away. If what I'm about to tell you sounds familiar, don't worry, help is on the way.
I guarantee you that what you are about to read will likely be far different than what you have read or heard anywhere else!
First, let me tell you why today's traditional treatment methods for sciatic nerve pain just flat out miss the boat. The medical community is so conditioned and focused on treating only the symptoms and trying to get in as many patients a day as possible, that many people are misdiagnosed and/or mistreated.
In order to get rid of your sciatica you must first know what is causing your pain... there are 4 conditions that can cause sciatica.
The pain is simply caused by pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve and there are primarily four things that can create this... you may have one or more of the following:
Condition #1 - Piriformis Syndrome
The most common cause of sciatic pain and is created when pressure is placed on the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle. Muscle imbalances pull the hip joints and pelvis out of place and this changes the positioning of the piriformis muscle, which then places pressure on the sciatic nerve. Whatever the case, muscle imbalances will cause major problems and are the underlying cause of sciatica due to piriformis syndrome.
Condition #2 - Herniated Discs
Pressure caused by a herniated or bulging disc. A herniation is when a disc protrudes out from between the vertebrae and this can either be caused by an event like a car accident, or, by months or years of uneven pressure due to muscle imbalances. This can sometimes cause sciatic pain, but it is also important to note that many people with herniated discs don't even experience pain or symptoms, and many don't know they have the condition.
Condition #3 - Spinal Stenosis
Pressure caused by spinal stenosis, which is a decrease in the space between the vertebrae. This is primarily caused by uneven pressure and compression due to muscle imbalances.
Condition #4 - Isthmic Spondylolisthesis
Pressure caused by Isthmic spondylolisthesis which is simply when a vertebrae slips or moves... this can sometimes pinch the sciatic nerve but often times people who have this condition don't have any sciatic pain, symptoms, or even know they have it!
As you can see, there is a trend here...
In Nearly Every Case Of Sciatica, Muscle Imbalances Are The Primary Cause Of The Pressure Being Placed On The Sciatic Nerve...
If you are not sure which one of the four is causing your sciatica, I recommend you start with the basics. Most cases of sciatic pain are caused by muscle imbalances so if you begin to work on correcting any muscle imbalances you have, you should start to see improvement right away.... and likely eliminate your sciatic pain in a few weeks or less!
There are several self assessments you can perform to help identify which specific muscle imbalances you have and these are covered in our Lose the Back Pain System, along with step-by-step instructions on what to do to eliminate your imbalances and sciatic nerve pain...
Sciatica comes about either due to a traumatic event, muscle imbalances, or a combination of both...
The event scenario is most likely the catalyst for sudden onset of sciatic pain. So what happens… when there is undue stress on the Piriformis muscle that stress causes it to go into spasm and then you have pain due to the Piriformis muscle putting pressure on the sciatic nerve.
In most cases, people go to physical therapy or minimize their physical activity to break the pain – spasm cycle and in most cases your symptoms subside. However…the event will also set you up for a lifetime of sciatic pain if the Piriformis muscle does not recover 100% in both strength and flexibility.
When you have an injury to a muscle, both strength and flexibility are compromised, and if your recovery ends before strength and flexibility return, you will never be 100% and will likely struggle with the problem forever.
The other way sciatic pain creeps into your life is due to your lifestyle and habits, and that is what we like to call the process. The process can be described as a prolonged onset of symptoms based on your everyday activities...
However, from a technical stand point the process really describes the development of the muscle imbalance in your hip. The Piriformis muscle is responsible for external rotation (moving your leg so your feet point outward). So over time that muscle gets tight from the positions you put yourself in and weakens from lack of use.
Let me give you some examples of what I mean:
1. If you sit on the edge of your chair with you legs separated and your feet pointing outward you are keeping your Piriformis muscle in a shortened position and that's how it gets tight and with extended sitting in that position, it gets weak form lack of use. Hence the imbalance.
2. Another example is runners and bikers who actually work very hard tend to get sciatica because they fail to keep a strength vs. stretch balance in their workouts. Hence the imbalance creates a greater pull toward external rotation and the result is a tight Piriformis and an irritated sciatic nerve creating pain.
These are just two examples of how muscle imbalances can affect the Piriformis muscle and cause sciatic pain. You may not be a runner or cyclist but I'll bet you have muscle imbalances that are causing your sciatic pain!
So how do you get rid of your sciatic pain?
Will learning one new stretch be enough? It very well may be. However depending on the severity of your condition you may need to change your activities of daily living to include new stretches, new exercises that include the use of the hip rotators like roller-blading, basketball, tennis, etc, and even better, specific corrective exercise specific to your situation... like those covered in our Lose the Back Pain System.
As always, learn as much as you can about your condition, so that you can ask the tough questions to your healthcare providers and get the best care possible.

A Natural History Of Trampolines

A Natural History Of Trampolines
 by: Jeb Taylor

Walrus skins - It has been said that the first type of trampolining was done by the Eskimos who used to toss each other up into the air on a Walrus skin; something like the sheet used by firemen to catch people jumping out of the windows of houses which were on fire. In Anchorage Airport, Alaska, there are postcards depicting the Eskimos being tossed up in a Walrus skin.
There also is some evidence of people in England being tossed up into the air by a number of people holding a blanket. These may or may not be the true origins of the sport of trampolining but it is certain that in the early years of the 20th century there were stage acts which used a "bouncing bed" on the stage to amuse audiences. The bouncing bed was in reality a form of small trampoline covered by bedclothes on which the acrobats performed mostly comedy routines.
Trapeze artists
The trampoline itself, according to circus lore, was first developed by an artist called Du Trampolin who saw the possibility of using the trapeze safety net as a form of propulsion and landing device and experimented with different systems of suspension, eventually reducing the net to a practical size for separate performance.
In the early 1930s, one George Nissen made a trampoline in his garage and used it to help with his diving and tumbling activities. He then felt that he could entertain audiences and also let them participate in his demonstrations. Thus were the beginnings of a new sport.
World War 2
During World War 2, the United States Navy Flight School developed the use of the trampoline in its training of pilots and navigators, giving them concentrated practice in orientation such as had never been possible before. After the war, the development of the Space Flight programme again brought the trampoline into use to help train both American and Soviet Astronauts, giving them experience of variable body positions in flight.
The nature of the activity is natural, easy and rhythmical, and the power of the bed enables participants to have fun and excitement by jumping higher than they would normally be able and to perform many skills landing on the feet, seat, front and back and also to take off from those varied landing positions.

Oral Chelation . What Can It Do For You? (Part 1)

Oral Chelation – What Can It Do For You? (Part 1)
 by: Candy Gent

Due to amazing advancements in science and technology men have increasingly become dependent on machine and artificial ways of things. As a natural corollary, massive biological disorder of most of the human population has become a global phenomenon.
Some of the advanced medical researches have established a direct link between many modern day diseases and the excessive toxification of human body. It is like slow poisoning that damages the body beyond any cure. The dedicated studies in this field have confirmed the benefits of oral chelation therapy as an effective and efficient way of fighting out this slow assassin.
What is oral chelation?
In simple medical terminology, oral chelation is the name of the therapy that aims at cleansing your system off the toxic substances like harmful metals, minerals, or other chemical toxins and help to keep the toxin level in the body within its endurance level.
Researches in the areas of detoxification have proven the curing powers of oral chelation especially with regard to the cardiovascular ailments and some neurotic disorders. Like diet- control and exercise, oral chelation also is an excellent preventive therapy. Along with the consumption of plenty of filtered water daily, a systematic adherence to oral chelation regimen ensures a long and healthy life.
The need of oral chelation:
Due to the phenomenal increase in the use of industrial products we are constantly exposed to the heavy or toxic metals in the environment, which are consumed within the body through the air we breathe, through the food we eat, through the water we drink and even through the absorption by our skin. Heavy metal toxicity invites neurological and cardiovascular dysfunctions. They can also badly affect the enzymatic, hormonal, reproductive and urinary systems. They also cause impairment to the detoxification canals like liver, kidney, and colon. If taken regularly, the oral chelation helps to prevent these diseases.
How does oral chelation work?:
Some metals like, iron, zinc or calcium are naturally found within human body in a low concentration. These are the trace metals that are absolutely safe and even useful. But when they acquire a very high density, they are no longer beneficial for human body and become highly toxic. Not being metabolized by the body, they start getting accumulated upon the tissues. If this accumulation takes place at a faster rate than that of the natural detoxification process of the body, it brings permanent damage of the whole system.
Oral chelation means the consumption of some chelating agents through mouth. The Chelating agents are capable of forming chemical bonds by encircling the ions of the harmful metals. The oral chelation agents first form bonds with the toxin elements and then force them out from the body through urine and excreta. The oral chelation agents contain anti-oxidant properties and prevent the movements of the free radicals. Lactic acid, citric acid, ascorbic acid and acetic acid are the commonest form of organic acids that can be found in the food and can be consumed as oral chelation agents.

Autism and Nutritional Supplements

Autism and Nutritional Supplements
 by: Ray Smith

Unfortunately, it has been proved beyond doubt that a large percentage of the United States population suffers from nutritional deficiency. Studies show, 30% of the general population has a marginal level of Vitamin C and 15% are Vitamin C deficient. Low level of vitamins and minerals like, calcium, iron, folic acid, magnesium, and chromium continue to be a significant but common problem in the United States. It is also being noticed that children suffering from Autism are the most common patients for vitamin and mineral deficiency. Generally children suffering from Autism have much lower level of vitamins A, C, D, and E, and all B vitamins (except choline) and some minerals (zinc, magnesium, selenium).
The most common problems that are detected in children suffering from nutritional deficiency can be listed as follows: High Copper: Zinc ratio B12 deficiency Calcium deficiency Sulfate deficiency Vitamin A
Why children with Autism suffer the most?
Chronic diarrhea/constipation: Malabsorption is a common problem related to Autism. A recent study by the Southwest Autism Research Center of over 400 people with autism has found that 48% reported chronic diarrhea or chronic constipation
Gastrointestinal inflammation: Many patients suffering from Autism experience chronic gastrointestinal inflammation and structural compromise in the digestive tract. This intestinal inflammation likely reduces nutrient absorption.
Dietary restrictions: One of the classic symptoms of autism is restricted interests and behaviors and this often extends to choices of food. Restricted, self-limited diets are highly likely to be deficient in one or more essential nutrients.
The Brighter Side
When we are all concerned with the increasing rate of autistic children and problems due to lack of necessary vitamins and minerals it has also been proved that multivitamin/mineral nutrient supplement goes a long way in helping these children. These nutritional supplements significantly contribute towards their improvement of IQ, scholastic test scores, and early neurological development. Children with learning disabilities experience substantial behavioral, cognitive, and academic gains by use of these multivitamin nutritional supplements.
Studies and feedback from parents of children with Autism has shown that calcium, vitamin C, folic acid, and vitamin B6 with magnesium, zinc, niacin, niacinamide, and dimethylglycine resulted in improvement in 41–58% of cases.
The Liquid Vitamin Formula and the Liquid Mineral Formula (available at http://www.awakennutrition.com ) developed with the advice of James Adams. Ph.D. Arizona State University is an ideal solution to meet the nutritional needs of Autism and ADHD. James B. Adams is a father of a young girl with autism, diagnosed in 1994, and that is what led him to eventually shift much of his research emphasis to autism, focusing on biological causes and treatments.
It was found in research that a combination of Vitamin B6 and Magnesium is highly effective in reducing many of the deficits and symptoms of autism. Vitamin C has also been shown in a clinical trial to facilitate a reduction in symptom severity in children with autism. Vitamin B6 is significantly elevated in children with autism, probably due to defective pyridoxal kinase, implying a functional need for more. This may explain why very high doses of vitamin B6 have been shown in numerous studies to benefit children with autism. However, further study is required to measure pyridoxal, pyridoxamine, PMP, and PLP simultaneously to validate this interpretation. Alpha lipoic acid levels should also be higher and preferably at par with those found in typical adults.
These are some of the basic requirements that must be kept in mind while developing any nutritional supplements to be effective and contribute towards proper treatment and growth of children with autism and people suffering from lack of minerals and vitamins. James Adams research ahs gifted us with two such multivitamin nutritional supplements however we should put in continuous effort to develop even better solutions and products that would be effective to cure autism.

Genital Warts: A Common Sexually Transmitted Disease

Genital Warts: A Common Sexually Transmitted Disease
 by: Michael Sanford

Genital warts are also called condylomata acuminata or venereal warts. They are the most easily recognized sign of genital human papilloma virus infection. In women, genital warts occur on the outside and inside of the vagina, on the opening to the womb, or around the anus. In men, they are seen on the tip of the penis, on the shaft of the penis, on the scrotum, and just like in women, around the anus. Genital warts often occur in clusters and can be very tiny or can spread into large masses in the genital or anal area. They do no appear until two to four weeks after infection and sometimes months pass before they become visible. They do not usually hurt, but they can be very itchy. Genital warts are like raised, flesh-colored lesions or can be cauliflower-like appearing growths around the anus or genitals. Some early signs that one can be suffering from genital warts is the itching of the penis, scrotum, anal area, or in vulva, increased vaginal discharge, and abnormal vaginal bleeding after sexual intercourse, which is not usually associated with menstrual period.
People with many sexual partners are more at risk to have genital warts. And also those people who do not practice safe sex. Genital warts are very contagious and can easily spread during oral, genital, or anal sex with an infected partner. But these do not develop right after contact, Development of genital warts usually occurs within three months of contact. In order to avoid being infected, use condom during sexual intercourse because this can partially protect you against genital warts. Keep in mind always that total abstinence is the only foolproof way of avoiding genital warts and other STDs. Also stick to one sexual partner who is disease-free. But if you suspect that you are already infected, you should contact your doctor immediately for early diagnosis.
Genital warts can be diagnosed by a doctor or other health care worker by seeing them on a patient though a clinical examination. But there are some genital warts that are so flat and almost become invisible to the naked eye. These "invisible" genital warts can be detected though by a doctor. This is done by swabbing the skin with acetic acid, and the genital warts will then show as white patches on the skin. For women, in order to detect genital warts in the cervix, they should take a Pap smear test. In a Pap smear, a laboratory worker examines cells scraped from the cervix under a microscope to see if they are cancerous. If a woman's Pas smear is abnormal, she is very likely to have HPV infection.
Early diagnosis of genital warts is very important so that these can be treated soon and to avoid spreading the infection to others. It is important that both partners are treated and to make sure you follow the treatment. Genital warts are easy to treat when they are small and few by swabbing with the cell poison, podophyllum. In some cases, this condition can be referred to a skin specialist to remove the genital warts under local anesthesia using surgery, freezing, or laser treatment.
Remember that anyone who has previously been infected with genital warts runs the risk that they will return now and then for the rest of their life. So you should always be on the look out and practice safe sex.

An Effective Acne Skin Care Regime

An Effective Acne Skin Care Regime
 by: Mike Spencer

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions today. It affects or has affected nearly everyone at one time or another. Acne skin care is the most important tool in reducing or eliminating outbreaks. Many different things contribute to healthy skin.
Acne occurs when oil and dead skin cells clog pores, or follicles. Acne primarily affects teens, although adults are affected also. Puberty causes an increase in oil production which increases the risk of having an acne outbreak.
What are some of the ways we can instil acne skin care?
The easiest acne skin care regime is to wash your face twice daily with warm water and mild soap. Using your bare hands to wash your face is gentler and kinder to your skin. Acne skin care dictates that you are very gentle with your skin-no scrubbing vigorously, using harsh soap, or alcohol based skin products. These only serve to irritate the skin and may make acne much worse.
Acne skin care revolves around oil control where it can be controlled. Wash your face frequently to remove oil and dirt when you are sweating or working around an oily area. Exposure to grease, pore-clogging cosmetics or hair products can worsen acne. If you are prone to oily hair, wash your hair daily to reduce the oil. Concentrate on using oil-free makeup and moisturizers.
Acne skin care demands that you be gentle to your skin. Picking or squeezing pimples can cause more inflammation and help to push bacteria deeper into your skin. Friction, such as athletic gear, bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars, can make you sweat which can cause clogged pores and therefore, acne.
The Don't's of acne skin care are:
Don't touch your skin unless absolutely necessary!
Don't rest your chin in hands!
Don't pick at your face!
Don't smoosh your face into your pillow and keep pillowcase clean!
Don't let hair products get on skin!
Don't rest cellphone against your face!
The Do's of acne skin care are:
Do treat your face gently and kindly.
Do wash your face with your bare hands.
Do wash face two times daily with warm water and mild soap.
Do use oil-free makeup.
If your acne is very severe or does not respond to the pampering acne skin care regime, then you may need to contact your physician for more aggressive treatment options.

Deep Muscle Soreness And Body-Shock Fatigue

Deep Muscle Soreness And Body-Shock Fatigue
 by: Marty Gallagher

In my experience there are two distinct types of muscular fatigue associated with intense progressive resistance training (only intense training is sufficient to trigger muscle hypertrophy) and these two types should be recognized and understood. The first type of fatigue is direct muscle soreness and is the result of a particular exercise targeting a specific muscle. Scientists are at odds as to the exact cause of muscle soreness but most believe that it is associated with some sort of cellular micro-trauma. Direct muscle soreness is usually the type of pain and discomfort that most folks experience when they begin serious progressive resistance training program.
There are varying degrees of muscle soreness and sometime the intensity of soreness can become so severe as to be debilitating. The muscles are actually sore to the touch. I have self-induced this type of soreness to every degree on every muscle – once, as a 14-year old novice, I found a 10-pound solid dumbbell and proceeded to do 50-repetitions in the one-arm curl for each arm every hour on the hour for 10-straight hours. It seemed like a cool idea to my young and dumb mind but that went out the window the next day when both arms locked up to such a degree that I could not straighten my arms. Both biceps were so traumatized that they remained involuntarily contracted for the next 36-hours. My hands were held at my face and any attempt to straighten my arms resulted in excruciating pain. I had to ride it out until the biceps relaxed. This was an extreme example of muscle fatigue but extremely illustrative of this 1st type of muscle soreness/fatigue.
The second type of muscular fatigue is what I would describe as overall fatigue, I call it body shock. The body is a holistic unit and hard intense training done for long time periods has a cumulative effect. After a while a uniform sense of overall fatigue is experienced manifested by an overwhelming sensation of tiredness. This tiredness envelops the whole body. When in the throes of body shock it seems as if you are moving through water. In my experience this type of fatigue is a direct result of an accumulation of intense workouts. Fatigue and soreness come with the territory and if you never experience either version, likely you'll not make any significant physical progress.
In my experience, if I don't feel some degree of muscle soreness in the target muscle after a workout I become suspect that I didn't work hard enough or the exercise I selected was technically deficient and spread the muscular effect over too wide an area. In this respect I use controlled soreness (no too much, not too little) as a workout report card. When it comes to body-shock fatigue, to my way of thinking a much more serious type of fatigue, I will cut back on my training and kick up my calories, particularly my protein intake. When body-shock descends training through it is a bad idea: first, training poundage plummets (so what's the point?) and secondly there is a very real danger of fatigue-induced injury.
If you experience severe muscular soreness of the 1st type, avoid training that particular body part until the soreness reduces to tolerable levels. If body-shock envelops you cease and desist progressive resistance training and kick up the food intake. I have found that light to moderate cardio actually helps to dissipate muscle soreness. Accelerating circulation within a sore muscle stimulates recovery, assuming the resistance used is light, easy and not taxing. Use your common sense and be aware that even purposeful primitives paid heed to fatigue.
