Sensitive Skin Care – Why Using It Will Not Necessarily Guarantee Resolved Problems by Laurel Levine

Let’s face it. There are many sensitive skin care products available for those that think that they need them, but using one of them doesn’t necessarily guarantee that your problems with you skin will be resolved. It seems that some of the products developed for delicate skin contain some pretty harsh ingredients, so you may still run into some issues. Why would these formulas be advertised as gentler on the skin when they are really not?

The cosmetics companies tend to use the cheapest ingredients possible in the development of their skin care products. While they probably do try and use some compounds that will cause less irritation, they are not going to change their practice of using only low cost ingredients. What you need are all natural compounds, but odds are that is not what you are going to get.

Most sensitive skin care products are simply filled with synthetic versions of the soothing ingredients you need, although every once in a while a company will include something natural just for show. You have to watch for formulas that have a lot of synthetics in them, because these compounds are made up of chemicals which could be the cause of the skin irritation you suffer.

Most of the skin care formulas also contain multiple types of alcohol in them, which is primarily included because it acts as a carrier or delivery vehicle for various compounds. At least that is why I have been told that it is there, although some people theorize that alcohol is present in these formulas to help keep the skin from becoming oily. The first theory makes more sense, since alcohol actually increases oil production.

Alcohols dry the skin, and can actually rob your skin of much of the natural oil that your sebaceous glands produce. When this happens the sebaceous glands go into overdrive in order to try and compensate for the drying effect that the alcohol is having. On top of this alcohols can be incredibly irritating and they should never be included in any skin care product let alone a sensitive skin care formula.

Plant based oils, waxes, and extracts possess properties so strikingly similar to your skin’s own oil, that they don’t need any form of “delivery vehicle” in order to get them where they are going. These ingredients are incredible moisturizers and emollients, and are extremely gentle to the skin. They provide healing antioxidants, and they nourish your skin with a wealth of different vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids.

Since I brought up earlier the suggestion that alcohol was used to control excess oil, I want to tell you about a couple of natural compounds that actually can regulate the production of sebum without making the skin dry. In order to keep the skin balanced sensitive skin care formulas should contain Maracuja passion fruit extract and Jojoba oil. These compounds will never allow your skin to become either too oily, or too dry.

Make no mistake about it. All natural compounds are what truly create effective sensitive skin care formulas.
