Selecting the Best Pillow by Andy Johnston

Getting a good nights rest is important so that we feel rested and remain healthy. Many individuals find themselves in constant search for the perfect bed but may tend to overlook the importance of finding a quality pillow. The right pillow is essential to getting a restful sleep. While there is no perfect pillow for everyone, there are some considerations when purchasing your next nighttime head support.

The first problem is that many people use their pillows for far too long. Pillows need to be replaced every two to three years. Less expensive versions typically need more frequent replacement. To determine if your pillow needs replaced, fold it in half and see if it bounces back to its original shape quickly. If not, it probably needs to be thrown out.

The firmness of any pillow is very important. Too firm or too soft of a selection can cause discomfort or pain. The right one will adequately support your neck so that you are comfortable. The specific firmness or size of the pillow will depend on your particular body and sleeping position. For those who sleep on their stomach, soft pillow are often the best choice. Firmer options are ideal for those who sleep directly on their backs. High, very firm pillows are recommended for side sleepers.

The filling of a pillow can be either natural or synthetic. Regardless of which option you choose, make sure that you are investing in a quality pillow. If you wake up throughout the evening feeling hot, you may look for a pillow which is designed to reduce or displace heat throughout the night. Memory foam pillows are great for side and back sleepers since they mold to your body form and provide adequate support. Lastly, make sure the pillow case you select is not only fashionable and matches your bedding but it should also be comfortable. For a restful nights sleep, consider investing in your bedroom.
